12-26-2012 i was on route 77 in akron, ohio when i slid on ice and snow, my car started spinning and an suv going north and my car crashed. i spun into the left lane where a cadillac suv was driving north and he hit the driverside front side of my vehicle. my car may be totalled. front driverside headlight is gone, transmission was pushed back and hood of car is bent. my airbag did not go off. i was taken to the hospital after hitting my head on the driver side window, and i strained my neck. my question is why did my airbags not go off??

My husband and i were driving on a highway at about 65mph outside of cleveland, ohio when the passenger side air bag deployed without cause. we were shocked, but my husband was thankfully able to keep control of the car. the road was totally clear there was no reason for this to happen. we went to a nearby police station and the officer stated that there was no evidence of any kind of accident at all, and that this was a manufacturing defect in their opinion. my arm and back have been sore and we have not heard from the ford dealer how they plan to take care of this. i am afraid that the other airbags are defective as well. if this happened on the driver side it could cause a serious accident. *tr

At 7:30 this morning, i was driving to work on the palisades parkway, my speed was about 70 mph, when suddenly there was a loud bang, followed by smoke in the interior of my car. i immediately slowed down and realized that the car was still operating fine, but that the driver's side impact air bag deployed for no reason. i did not hit a pot hole, nor was i hit or hit any one or any thing. it just deployed on it's own. the seat bag was located in the driver's seat. there is now foam rubber in the interior of my car from the seat. the seam on the seat is open. i called the local ford dealer and was told it would not be covered. i also called the ford motor company customer care service, which assigned a case number and i should hear back in about 24-48 hours. upon looking on the web, i have found about 25 additional instances of the same air bag deploying for no reason. my left arm, my neck are bruised from the impact of the airbag. i also am having ringing in my left ear from the bang. is there enough evidence for a recall based on many deployments of this airbag?

Air bag light is illuminated or on. however, my car has never been in an accident or collision. power steering on the car went bad. i had to get it replaced. wanted to know if there are any recalls for both of these issues. i bought this car new. should i be experiencing problems this soon?

The airbag light on the instrument cluster of my 2007 ford focus came on for the first time august 31, 2011. the car has 37,023 miles and has had all the dealer maintenance performed since the car was purchased. i was told by the longmont ford dealer that the on board diagnostic computer indicated a loss of communication and that the airbag safety system was not engaged when the light was on. i returned to the dealer the next day to have a complete diagnostic to determine what had caused the light to activate. i was told that the instrument cluster had failed and that the entire cluster must be replaced. this electronic failure represents a serious safety issue if not replaced at a cost of ~$800.00. i am deeply concerned that other drivers of this car may not understand that the safety system is completely inactive when the instrument cluster fails in this way. ford does not offer to replace this as part of the safety warranty program. i think this is wrong and represents a safety hazard for drivers who may not understand the failure or who cannot afford to make such a repair and choose to drive the care without the safety feature operable.

Recently, my 2007 ford focus ses wagon began exhibiting a problem with the passenger airbag system. with my wife in the passenger seat and normal operating conditions, the passenger airbag off light on the dash will illuminate indicating that the airbag will not deploy if we were to get into an accident. this occurs at random times. i have twice had this vehicle in to the local ford dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. this problem did not occur during the first two years we owned the vehicle. it has been happening regularly over the past several months. if the indicator does illuminate and the traffic conditions are such that we can do this safely, my wife can unbuckle the seat belt and let it retract. she can then re-buckle her seat belt and the indicator will turn off. our trips have been short enough that we have not seen the light turn back on so i do not know if this resolves the issue for that particular trip or if it would turn back on if the trip were longer. something in the passenger seat belt controls seems to be bad. whether that is the passenger weight sensor, the seat belt sensor, or the control module cannot be determined as we have not been able to get to the dealer when this occurs since most often it is the evening when my wife is with me. by that time, the dealer is closed. *tr

I was passing a car and just completed the pass (approx. speed was 60 mph), when the back right tire locked up. this caused me to go into on coming traffic. i then went off the road and flipped end over end once and barrell rolled three times. the car was totaled. i had minor injuries. witnesses stopped and told police and fire personnel, that after i had passed them, the right rear tire locked up and spun me out of control. the car landed on its driver side. during the spin as i applied the brakes to regain control of the vehicle it felt as if the vehicle was trying to accelerate. the airbags never deployed. my concerns are the braking system, tires, air bags, and wheel bearings. this crash should not have happened, this is an obvious problem for ford. *tr

Year of vehicle: 2007 make: ford model: focus se date of purchase: july 2007 selling/: spreen honda odometer @ purchasing: 24,900 current mileage: 49,000 problem(s) with the following: transmission - repair attempts: srs/airbag lamp - repair attempts: steering shake/vibration - repair attempts: seat belt repair/replacement - repair attempts: air bag light is back on again in the 'on' position - multiple repair attempts: complaint to dealer: yes. cld spreen honda spoke to owner who sent me to a salesman. the next time i returned it to fritz dealership (since they did orig work), for same probs & i was told i wouldn't get a courtesy car and they had no idea how long it would take for repairs. the interior airbag light was in the 'on' position, the transmission began slipping, the front end was shaking like before. car was returned the 2nd time for the same problems. i was told it was defective parts & had to be ordered. no courtesy car this time like the first time so i was stranded (i'm disabled and nd trans). the car is falling apart little by little with the back door handle broken completely. the seller (spreen honda) said i would hv to get a new loan on a new vehicle instead of 'exchanging vehicles' as promised in my conversations with the owner, at spreen honda, place of purchase. i refused this 'hustle' because this was not what i was told over the phone, but after 2nd set of repairs, the car would be replaced...not me purchase another car and give up another down payment! i didn't agree to this and walked out. this car has been under repair for weeks off/on for the same or similar problem i.e., the transmission first repair was only a few months after purchase, along with front end shaking. i was given a courtesy car while repairs we done w/out the 1st time, but not the 2nd. i was told my car had a 'defective part' & had ordered it. the car has been returned again for same probs mentioned above. airbag light is bk on again and transmission slip. *tr

I own a 2007 ford focus. i purchased the se model new because of the additional safety features such as front and side air bags. my daughter was involved in a serious accident on 4/5/08 where a car pulled out in front of her. her focus hit the car dead center between the drivers car door and the passenger car door. the impact was almost a perfect frontal impact which destroyed the entire front of the focus. no airbags deployed and my daughter suffered a bruised chest, neck and back pain from the seat belt. i'm concerned that there is a problem with the non-deployment of airbags on the ford focus on frontal impacts. i believe it is in the best interest of the public that this be investigated. the car has been towed to nichols ford in fort worth, tx. i have also notified the consumer department of ford motor company of the complaint. *tr

Dear sir: i recently purchased a ford focus sedan 2007 which has the feature in which if the front passenger is not withing certain ranges the air bag will not deploy. consistently, the notification that the air bag is off light on with my 22 year old female daughter which is short ( 5foot 2 and 105 pounds) is in the front passenger seat. i have tried to solve this issue with the dealer but they have no solution and they state that the threshold is set to 100lb which i consider excesive. after about twenty minutes or so the light turns off as it should be, but this leaves an extended interval in which my daughter is not protected. i'd appreciate your advice on how to handle this matter . *tr

Driving on the interstate with a friend the air bag deployed while driving 65 mph we hit nothing thank god it was not the drivers air bag the car is only 8 months old we have a bumper to bumper warranty with ford motor company. they would not look at it and told us to go to our insurance company. we had to pay a 500.00 they found that the computer recorded a head on accident which will not be erased so the car value is now lost they took pictures of everything showing no accident at all the insurance company changed all the sensors and then the air bag light would not go off it indicated a passenger in the seat so the sent it to thoroughbred ford and said they did not care what they had to do but fix the car so the did. it cost me 500.00 deductible and the insurance co 1,800.00 so now the are waiting for ford to except liability. we no not feel our son is safe driving this car i feel most accidents should be looked at as which happened first an accident or the air bag. we could have lost four young men because of this i am very angry with this total process it took 3 weeks to get the car back this also involved missing work classes and alot of trouble with transportation i wish they would take this car off the road so if and when it is sold i do not have that burden of someone else's life on my head and heart. *tr

On october 25 2007 i purchased a ford focus sedan 4 door car with more or less 400 miles on the odometer. a couple of days later i noticed that when my daughter which is 5 foot one, 112 lb was riding in the passenger's seat, an indicator light lit indicating me that the airbag is turned off ( written on the plastic), telling me that at this moment the airbag would not deploy in case of a collision. this feature is supposed to activate when children are seated in the passenger seat in order to avoid deployment injury. i went to my dealer 4 times expressing my complaints around this safety issue. each time they told me that the unit would be reset and ultimately they even exchanged a seat cushion, all of this with no avail. confronted again with this problem with my wife as a passenger (5ft 3 and 114lb) i returned to the dealer and they reproduced the situation i was explaining with a local thin passenger. as a result of this visit i contacted ford customer service and filed a complaint on 11/19/2007. ford advised that i would receive a follow up call in a couple of days. today 11/20/2007 ford called and told me that according to their engineers, the behavior of the light was as designed and as such i could do nothing about it. let me state that fords explanation is ridiculous and a severe breach in auto security with liability issues. bottom line, occupants in the front passenger seat ( in this case my daughter or wife) could be subjected to lethal injuries as a result on non deployment of the air bag due to a faulty mechanism which interprets erroneously that small adults are children even in the case of normal small adults. i find this situation completely unacceptable and awareness, if not a class suit should be initiated against ford. as a customer, i'm frustrated and feel at risk using this new vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the vehicle was involved in a crash and after it was repaired, the passenger side air bag light illuminated intermittently. she returned to the dealer twice in one week and they repaired the air bag sensor three times. the contact stated that the light would dim for two days, but then illuminate again. she believed that this was a safety hazard and the dealer advised her not to drive the vehicle until it was repaired. the failure mileage was 8,300 and current mileage was 8,900.

I was driving down a city street when my driver side airbag deployed for no reason. i did not go over a bump and was not hit by another vehicle to justify the airbag deploying. i immediately pulled over and got out of my car.

Driving down dirt road ~45mph. speed limit is 55mph. said road has numerous potholes, none of large size that were observed to be catastrophic. passenger seat airbag deployed with passenger in seat. spoke with ford complaint line, they deny this as a failure without investigating or inspecting, nor did they offer. ford dealer who is repairing vehicle, was not able to provide me with the information of what set the airbag off as of yet (sensors?). ford dealer claims pothole damage on vehicle.

While driving on a busy 3 lane expressway in the center lane at 60 miles per hour, the left curtain airbag deployed and i wasnt involved in an accident. my arm felt like someone hit me with a baseball bat. but luckily i was able to maintain control and not cause a pile up. my wife was in the car with me and was very thankful that i was driving because she said she probably wouldn't have reacted the same way. she had just purchased this 2007 ford focus less then a week ago, with a clean car fax!!!! now i'm reading that this has happened to alot of people. i have been a fireman for nearly 25 years and i've seen what airbags can do to people when they work properly. and if its true that ford is ignoring these claims, someone one with some federal pull should do something about this.

Driving on highway, 2007 ford focus side air bag deployed for no reson

I was driving down the interstate through an interchange around a curve, when i hit what i thought was a pothole. the next thing i knew, the car filled with smoke and my shoulder felt as if i had been slugged by someone. after coming to my senses, i realized my side airbag in my seat had deployed as i drove down the interstate. i have never had an airbag deploy, and had no idea what had happened. my driver's seat in my ford focus 2007 is now ripped down the side where the airbag deployed and no ford dealership will replace the seat. according to the blackbox that records what happens in a vehicle, the technician explained, my vehicle had a 360 degree spinout that created enough force for my airbag to deploy, and that my insurance company would have to fork up the cost of replacing my seat. i have been battling this for about 2 years now!!!!!!

My daughter was driving our 2007 ford focus. she was on a smooth road, when the driver side airbag opened for no reason. it hit her on the side of the head, causing her to have hearing loss for 2 minutes as well as a headache. it also caused her to swerve the car slightly, but she had total control. i took the car to magic city ford in roanoke, va, they ran some tests and contacted the ford corp. between the two of them, it was decided that my daughter was a fault, and that she had to have hit something. i inspected the car myself on sat, and there is no damage to the car. ford just wants to sweep this under the carpet, along with magic city ford. *tr

2007 ford focus bought new july 2007 also bough full warrant and gap insurance in feb 2008 driving 65 down the interstate the air bag deployed with now reason. 4 boys in the car. ford said take it to your insurance company. they also would not look at the cd player one month before this so the insurance comp. sent it to there repair shop they took extensive pictures to show no body damage or impact to cause this, they replaced the seat and the passenger side light would not go of so it indicated that there was a person in the seat so, the insurance company told ford to fix it because the company fixing it had already changed all the sensors and the light would not go off. we had to pay 500.00 deductible and the insurance paid 1658.00 we do not know if our insurance will go up because ford has not excepted responsibility yet and it has been 6 months and i have written to the federal trade comm. the news ect.. i do not want my child driving this car and i want my money back (plus some) and the computer reads a collision so we have lost alot of value i am just mad and i have heard alot of stories about ford air bags and nothing is done i am only a speck to them they will probably drop the case and that will be that atleast nobody was killed yet maybe that is why they sell gap insurance. thanks julie mohr. *tr
