TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM
08/14/201080000
I have a 2006 freestar sel in 2008. i purchased it used at 57000 km mileage (canada). about a year after, a recurring issue was that the traction control comes on without warning even at high speeds. the net effect is that it quickly limits the speed to about 40 kph. once, driving at 100 kph, it came on and the transmission failed. i got the txn fixed but it still occurs occasionally/randomly. i got in touch with ford canada and they deny there is such a problem. however, a search of the internet found several owners of freestar with the same problem. i took it to the dealer but they cannot find a problem. one reference quoted a ford service bulletin that refers to the problem as a nuisance but not a safety concern. i and others do not agree. see link http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2006/ford/freestar/traction_control_system/problem.aspx i am also sending this to the canadian ministry of transportation. i think this is a serious issue which could have ended up in a serious crash.

I have a 2006 ford freestar and today it decided to slam on the brakes on the freeway without my foot touching the brake peddle. the traction control light began flashing and would not go faster than 25 mph. turned off traction control button and ran fine. turned traction control back on and the van slammed on the breaks again. had to pull over turn off motor and restart engine to make the van stop. google this problem and you will find it all over the internet a long with major transmission failures.

Advance traction control system light started flashing on dashboard. the car started braking and couldn't go over 20 mph. thank goodness i was only going 25 mph at the time. i called ford dealer who gave me no help. i brought to my regular mechanics and they said there were no codes that showed up, but there is a technical service bulletin tsb07-10-11. this describes it as a nuisance. it is more like a safety problem. i am scared to drive it with my children in the car. if you look on www.fordforum.com, you'll see many more people who feel this way. *tr
