I got into my van, after dropping my mom off and was during approximately 15 miles am hour, got half way down her street when i heard this strange noise, like the sound of ron's revving on a race car or something. than. my rpm gage was going all the way up and down. it was moving pretty slow, and i got scared and pulled over and put it in park and shut it down. i than tried to start it up again and it would not go . it just kept revving. the ron's moving up and down again. i had to have it towed to a transmission shop and they charged me $1,550 to have trainee rebuilt. i was out of a vehicle for months trying to come up with the money. also spending money on rentals to get to work and bring my kids to school. than just three months after getting my van back, i drove to the akron reservation and nearly the same thing happened driving up a hill on the way back. i had to have it towed again and went without my van for another week and a half. they fixed it again and than told me there was a recall on the torque converters through ford. the 2004 and 2005 ford freastar. my van is an 06, and their are a lot of 2006 story's and complaints i have heard besides mine. ford needs to extend the recall and add the 2006 models also, because it's the same defective problem as the 04, and 05.

I was driving approximately 45 mph on busy highway, my ford freestar would no longer accelerate. looking in the rear view mirror, there was smoke coming from my vehicle. the engine light came on after i noticed the smoke, then my thermostat went all the way from c to hot in a split second. no warning, car smoking and my brakes and gas was not working. i tried to pull over safely and get out of the vehicle quickly. my van was engulfed with smoke, an ambulance pulled over to assist me. the car fire was put out and towed to a ford dealer. it was my transmission that blew. it was covered by warranty and fixed. i was told it was a bad transmission. one year and two weeks later, my ford freestar was not shifting gears, i was getting stuck, in reverse. when i shift to drive, it does not go forward. my car had to be towed again to the same ford dealer. i was told my transmission was filled with water and the 1 year warranty i purchased the year before was shorted by two weeks. ford would not honor my warranty due to it being over by 2 weeks time frame. so, i then purchased another transmission with another warranty. now in 2012, a year later, my transmission that i purchased last year is doing the same thing, getting stuck in gears, when i accelerate, my freestar jumps. every time it rains, this car stalls. when i took to my mechanic, he says this is a horrible car. poorly made and it should have been recalled. apparently it stalls in the rain due to the sealing from ford? why and how is this possible? this vehicle is a horrible safety problem. i am fortunate my children were not with me in the first car fire. when is ford or the safety council going to investigate this car? so in my vehicle, ford thinks there is nothing wrong with their customer having to replace a transmission 3 years in a row. no safety warnings or engine light warnings at all.

05/07/12 as the brake was applied to turn a corner in traffic, the car just quit forward motion! turned engine off and restarted engine, and was then able to drive forward. 05/21/12 started parked van , put it in reverse, applied accelerator, the engine revved up, but no reverse motion(car rolled backwards as was parked on an incline), put it in drive, applied accelerator, and again the engine revved up, but no forward motion drive(again van rolled backwards). van was towed to garage. assumed that it was the torque converter problem that a recall was issued for 2004 and 2005 ford freestars. diagnosis was indeed a bad torque converter in our 2006 ford freestar(not currently recalled for the torque converter like the 2004 and 2005 ford freestars)

I am ususally satisfied with the fords that i have posessed. until i leased a 2006 ford freestar. as my husband was driving with our 3 young childern, the van had staled in the middle of high traffic as we were entering. thank god that none of the other vechiles had hit us. come to find out that it was the turque convertor. we had also found out that the ford freestar 2004 an 2005 turque convertors have been recalled. it is obvious that it is a flaw of the model. now we are on foot having to pay the 1100 expense out of pocket. how are we to do that when we are having finacial situation as it is.

My ford freestar had been outside overnight and the windows were icy as the temperature was approx 30 degrees. i started the car and put the rear defroster on high for about 10 min before leaving for work. soon after, i was on the highway driving 60 mph when suddenly there was a loud implosion as the rear window shattered and most fell in! stunned and not knowing initially what had happened, i pulled to the side of the freeway and quickly realized that i needed alternate transportation to work and returned home to further assess my newly 'air conditioned' van. i contacted my dealer several days later and got the rear window repaired at my expense. despite a couple of mechanics suggesting that the combination of the icy condensation on the window and the defroster running on high caused the window to shatter, ford motors would not reimburse any of the expense ($260) for repairs. this van has never been in an accident and fortunately has otherwise been reliable. i am very disappointed that ford would not cover window replacement and examine the cause especially after reading that this is a prevelant problem with many of their vehicles. thank you for taking my concerns into consideration to continue to maintain safe vehicles for all on the road.

Bought the 2006 ford freestar on 9/14/11. 5 minutes after the purchase, i came to a light and the car lost all power. turned right around and went back to the dealership and assumed it was from sitting in the lot through a massive snow storm. in the 18 weeks that i have had the vehicle, it has been brought back to the shop 4 times totaling 12 full weeks. we have constant loss of power. we also experience a jerking/bucking which results in the engine light flashing and as soon as the car slows down enough, it will lose power. this usually happens right after rain. these problems have left me with a non mobile car in intersections. this is not safe at all and there should be a recall on this vehicle before someone ends up in a fatal crash.

I was driving and came to a stop light the car didn't stop it kept lunging forward i made it home and had it towed it to the dealership they called the next day to say it had water in the transmission fluid and the trans. asked me if i had driven it into a lake? i did not they then said later that they had found a tsb saying that rain water goes down through the wind shield into a cowl to the transmission vent and gets into the fluid? ford and my warranty company will not pay for the repairs as they say it is not a mechanical problem but due to water ? i know ford knows that they manufactured the part or parts that lets water get into the transmission but they want at least $3,250 or more for the repairs to the transmission and for the original problem that caused this to happen. ford is still waiting for a tork coverter for the transmission to get fixed ? i have been without a car for over 3 months i am a foster parent and i need a car and i do not feel i should have to pay for ford's manufacturing mistakes please help thanks.

2006 ford freestar failed to move forward in gear while driving on busy road. this occurred two different times. most recent instance saw me and my 4 year old daughter placed in peril. i have had transmission replaced only to find that problems may be the result of the pcm failing as a result of getting wet due to a faulty seal on the box that houses the pcm. most recent incident nearly resulted in our nearly being rear ended by a semit tractor trailer at 50 mph. fortunately, i had the presence of mind to shift to neutral, restart van and coast off road just ahead of truck. van stalled and would not run. had to leave at garage out of town and get a ride home for my and my 4 year old daughter.
