 I just got the vehicle in november 2012 and on 12/12/2012 i was driving home, the rpms started revving on it's own at speeds between 50-60 mph. i was not increasing it's gas. i made it home and stopped at the mailbox; as i let off the brake the vehicle lurched forward without me hitting the gas. then on 12/13/2012 as i was driving to work it did the same lurching coming out of park in my driveway and also at stop lights and signs. it also did the same revving and halfway to work it decided not to go over 40 mph. *tr

 I pulled into my garage, placed the car in park, turned it off, returned in 30 minutes, started right up, placed transmission in reverse, heard and felt a large bang, whining noise from engine, wrench light came on, that was the last time i drove it. i had it towed to a shop, replaced the computer, recoded, reflashed, nothing worked. i was told it needs a new transmission. new transmission estimate is $7000.00...ford should be held accountable for a flawed design...i was fortunate in that my transmission failed in my garage, others were not so lucky. please dont wait until someone's family is killed before you force a much needed recall on some seriously bad research and development. *tr

 So many issues with the transmission not sure where to start. car was running fine yesterday and then today car had the wrench light on and lost power on the expressway at about 75 mph. turned the card off and the light was still on but at least i got partial power. the car shudders and won't shift and sometimes when i push the gas pedal nothing happens. when i am stopped car will lunge forward even with my foot on the brake. called several ford dealerships and they said they are not certified to work on that type of trans but they will replace it for 7000.00!!!! i have read so many posts with the exact same issue. why is there no recall?? i could have been killed!!! or worse my kids could have been hurt. doesn't anyone care enough to do something? *tr

 My 2006 ford freestyle limited has major electrical problems. i have had the car lunge on me, at 0mph it would lunge forward, and in reverse. fortunately i had my foot on the brake every time. i don't think it is the transmission. i have a feeling that it is all electrical. i have had the lunging problem since last year. (2011) and the car has been deteriorating since. yesterday i got check charging system and now it kills all of the lights and gauges... yet it still kind of ran.(not very good up hill, and no indicator lights, no speedometer nothing.)another recent problem i have is the center engine (shock?)mount is busted. *tr

 I have owned my 2006 ford freestyle for just over a year....in this short time i have had it in the shop twice, both for major repairs. the first time was within weeks of my driving it off the lot; all of a sudden my car stopped recognizing the key (i guess it's a smart key with a chip embedded in it). i had to get my car towed to two dealerships before the second one had it for multiple days before getting it back. this time i was leaving the store with my daughters. i started my car and shifted the gear to drive and although my car made the accelerating sound, it went absolutely nowhere. i then tried to reverse it and put it in neutral to see what it would do. i once again had to get it towed to two different dealerships and it has now been at the current dealership for over a week and they are having to disassemble my transmission to determine what is wrong with it. i did a very generic search on google for recalls on my car and stumbled upon www.edmunds.com where there are numerous complaints about transmission issues in the 2006 and 2007 ford freestyles as well as lunging issues. my car did this once while i was driving my children to school. i was turning a curb and felt it accelerate immediately and it shocked me so that i threw on my brakes and almost caused an accident. out of this letter, i would like to see a recall on the 2006 ford freestyles for transmission issues where the manufacturer would be responsible for negligence in making these cars and repairs associated with it. this is my third car that i have owned and my first ford car. after these issues in such a short time of ownership i promise you it will be my last ford. very unhappy freestyle owner!!!  My complaint mirrors verbatim others related to the may 2011 investigation opened into the lunging at slow speeds for the 05-07 ford freestyle. the ac, hot temps, & lunging. one occurrence traveling 60mph & began to stall out & slow on major highway with three children in car. any pressure on fuel pedal no result. busy traffic, could only travel max 35-40mph. put flashers on & struggled to make it to repair shop. turned off ac in 100 degree heat to get any kind of response from engine. i was worried & feared for mine & my children's safety. vehicle would barely accelerate thru intersection after stopping for red light. finally made it to shop. vehicle was placed on machine. codes appeared: p061b alter fuel control module error, p2106 throttle actuator forced limited. took vehicle to ford house & explained issues as well as codes from previous shop. was told would be $100 for ford to hook up for a dx. if the codes i had were same,would cost est $800 to repair. as mom of 3 & who drives great distances for work, this repair asap. have had many occasions if not had foot firmly on brake the vehicle would've caused a wreck at stop light, pulling into, out of parking lots, etc. car literally drives itself in d/r at 10mph with no acceleration at all after placing in d/r. on 8-12-12 was in drive thru line & car lunged at high rate of speed forward after barely lifting foot off brake. came mm from slamming into vehicle in front. put car in p & the vehicle died. wrench/engine light came on. turned engine off, turned ac off & restarted the car. i can only imagine what would've happened if this had occurred at a stop light in a busy intersection? this issue is a fatality waiting to happen. this cannot be a fluke random issue if you have rec'd 238 prior complaints regarding the exact same issue. i urge nhtsa to place a recall, if for the only reason to save lives. *tr

 My family was sitting in the car while it was parked in drive. it stalled out and made a strange sound that sounded like a problem with the transmission. i have noticed that when it is hot it seems to accelerate on its own. i have noticed that it usually happens at low speeds and reverse. i feel that this is very dangerous. i have researched this car online and have read that this has happened to quite a few of these cars. i wanted to make sure that this defect has been noted. thank you for your time. ## vin failed ## ford, freestyle, 2006 ## *tr

 Cvt transmission bad and has to be replaced. there is a recall on the torch converter on the cvt trans but replacing it doesnt really fix the problem even though it was the cause of the original problem. once it goes bad you have bits and pieces of metal floating around all over everywhere else and the transmission just goes regardless. useless recall. also, the ac only blows cold at high speeds ....when driving slow in town it blows warm and i'm having electrical problems with the windows ....goes down when i pull up or wont go at all. *js

 My ford freestyle has had engine surging issues for approximately a year know. today 6/21/2012 my car started surging at every stop light so severely if we weren't holding down the brake we would of hit the car in front of us. the problem became so severe we had to put the car in neutral at every intersection to keep car from trying to jump into the intersection and stall. today's temp was in the high nineties and we were using the air conditioning. today's incident was the worst its been. went on line and search the symptoms and found that a lot of freestyle owners are having the same issue. with the safety of the car owner and pedestrians that could be near the car in jeopardy. ford should be recalling these cars and trying to find a permanent solution to fix this rather then charging the owners high dollars to replace a defective designed part with the same defective part.

 I purchased my 2006 ford freestyle in june of 2007. initially i fell in love with the comfort, size, and gas millage of my new car. around 2 1/2 yrs later i started noticing when moving from park to reverse my car would sometimes stall or lunge backwards. it was only occasionally and at the time i was told i probably didnt have it in gear all the way before reversing. i had to switch from park to reverse very slowly and always be ready to hit the brake in case it decided to lunge on its own. this problem has almost completely gone away except now i have problems accelerating. almost always on the highway now my car will loose power and the wrench light will come on. once i pull over and restart it , it seems to temporarily solve the problem. this is however beyond dangerous. several times this has happened in places on busy hightways where there is no shoulder. i have to travel in the slow lane now 100% of the time and i try to avoid major interstates at all costs. i have invested a great deal of money into several different things that have turned out to not be the problem. i feel like this car should have been recalled by now, before it ends up killing someone. i bought this car because it seemed like a great family car but now i am scared to death to even let children ride with me. i am also very upset that after paying down over a 20k loan to 5k that i will have to buy another car. i planned on having this car for years and years. i attempted in 2009 and in 2011 to trade the car in for a new car and the $ value of trade in is very low. the dealerships are well aware of the problems and offer a very small amount for a 7 passenger 2006 with only 85k miles on and it gets great gas mileage compared to most suvs or vans that seat 7.

 First, during a family vacation the wrench light kept coming on and the 2006 freestyle would have no acceleration like the transmission would not engage to get the required speed to pass. this results in slowing traffic down causing road rage with other drivers in the vicinity. on one occasion one of our teenagers who is learning to drive experienced this and will not drive the car for this reason. also, on several occasions while i was driving in route to work or the grocery store, my 06 ford freestyle sel limited seemed slow and sluggish to respond as i would be waiting at a red light for the green. when the light did turn green and i would press the gas pedal to go, the car would stall/shut off. a few times there were close calls as the car behind me would be unaware i was having trouble and almost rear-end me. when the car would cut off, i would proceed to restart the car and then press the gas to go. the car seemed to respond extremely slow like i would have the gas pedal pressed to the floor and would only be able to go 20 - 25 mph. on other occasions, the car would seem to lurch forward or backward (depending on if i had the car in drive or reverse) the wrench light coming on my 2006 ford freestyle creates a very dangerous situation because the engine will accelerate without applying the gas pedal and will not accelerate at times when the gas pedal is pressed. people at ford tell me that the company making the valve body part went out of business without notice, which does not help my situation any. so what is to be done? i have notified my state and federal highway safety commissioners, nhtsa, and my friend who also owns a 2006 ford freestyle of the problem and i would like to ask everyone with a similar problem to do the same. please explain,what is to be done?

 Car surges when changing gears. problem worse with fan controls on. rpm's stay above normal idle (750-800) most of the time. car will accelerate without using gas peddle at times. must keep a constant vigilance with foot on brake. went through all the basic fixes (mainly cleaning of throttle linkage and module) . was told the throttle body needs replaced ($1000+). this module is mounted on top of the engine-why? this is not a unique problem with this car. many, many many people with ford freestyles have had this same problem. other people have had this module replaced and that either did not fix the problem or it was a temporary fix. i believe it is a ford engineering design flaw. did not fix the vehicle. bought another car and got rid of this safety hazzard.

 I have always owned fords however this is by far the scariest ford car ever and to me the unsafest!! i purchased my ford freestyle back in october 2010. ever since then my car seems to have a mind of its own. when i am completely stopped my car will automatically lunge forward and even stall when i am turning my wheel. i have a 5 year old child who i drive everyday to school in this death trap and it scares me to death. i have tried talking to my ford dealership about this since the car was like this when i bought it but of course they want me to spend all this money i do not have on repairs...after internet research it appears there are hundreds of people that have the same problem with this vechicle. why isn't anyone doing something about this to protect the consumer? it is very scarey and i do not understand why the car is lunging forward and backwards if backing up when my foot is clearly on the brake as well as stalling . i hope someone will do something about it before someone ends up in an accident or even dead because of this!! that would be a serous lawsuit i am sure. this is a serious issue please please do a recall on it now if not for me for the sake of someones life who is driving one of these unsafe vechicles.

 Summary: i was putting gag in my car, as i entered the car after fueling, i was talking to my mother for a moment, and as i was about to place the key in the ignition, there was black smoke coming from the passenger mirror. i got out and ran over, and saw flames. i ripped the black cover with the mirror off, saw that there was an electrical fire. burning myself, i put the fire out in time to keep it from getting out of control. with the fire safly out, i saw that it was from the led courtesy light assembly at the bottom of the passenger side mirror. it was completly melted and burned. i removed the part, (as well as the one from the driver side for safe measure), and took them to my local ford dealership so they could report it as a faulty part. the part is the wagner part 71077. according to the driver side (i could not read the passenger side to see if it has the same part number, or if it is different for right and left.) the wire assembly, was burned near the base of the wires where they enter the assembly. had i not been there to put out the fire, my car would have burnt to the ground!!! my hand is recovering at this time.

 The car when your at a stop or low speed, in drive or reverse the car will try to lurch.when driving down the highway it's fine but when you come to a stop the wrench light comes on. a couple of times the car wouldn't go right away but eventually it would sometimes after turning the car off and back on again the wrench would be gone and would be able to go. sounds like sometimes the car isnt shifting right.the lurching is really noticeable when the a/c is on. can't have the a/c on when at a stop or it will lurch.

 Engine revs and vehicle lurches while placing the car in reverse, even with foot firmly on the brakes. appears to be worse when air conditioner is on. vehicle has lost virtually all power while driving. when this happens, you can floor the gas peddle but the vehicle won't go over 10-15mph. pulling over to the side of the road, turning vehicle off, waiting 15 seconds or so, then restarting, seems to reset the vehicle to a more functionable level. the vehicle also has an extensive exhaust smell and it is currently at the shop for a $566 repair for the diagnostic exam and that diagnosis indicating that the egr valve needs to be replaced. i called ford and they do not have a current recall for the egr valve, or throttle body-which seems to be a correlated problem within the two.

 On multiple occasions my vehicle has lunged when in a stopped position. when backing out of a parking spot, while in reverse, but with the brake still applied the car has lunged feet backwards at a fast rate and nearly caused accidents. this is also true in regards to stopped at a light or stop sign. while in drive with the brake peddle depressed stopped behind another vehicle the car lunged forward a couple feet nearly hitting the car in front of me. i have four children and i feel unsafe in my own car. i don't know when it is going to happen so i have to be prepared for it at all times. thank god that i haven't had any accidents when this happens. it is such a fast and unexpected movement that my children will scream. this needs to be taken seriously before someone has a serious accident.

 I have now had the diagnostic ran and the bad throttle body came in. i contacted ford and filed a complaint and request for financial assistance. there are are hundreds of blog entries with this same issue. it is dangerous and some people are buying new cars because of it. i do not have this luxury. the repair is going to cost around $750.00 which i cannot afford either. if ford knows about this, and it is currently under investigation, then why is there no recall? this car is a danger on the roads. we are being put in harms way every day, and now to boot we are having to replace a defective part that owners have had issues with for the past 2 years. the posts i have read are from all across the country, with people having the exact same issues. we are being taken advantage of. please make them do something about this. sounds a lot like toyota...

 I have a 2006 ford freestyle i pulled off the interstate stopped at a stop sign when i went to pull away the car lunged forward almost hitting another car and died 3 times the check engine light came on. i went to pull back on the interstate and had no power had my foot to the floor and could barely get to 30 mph. i am an automotive tech took the car to work and pulled the codes po61b internal control torque calculation and p2106 throttle control system. after researching the codes i found that alot of people have experienced the same problem with the same codes and had to replace the throttle body. i am replacing the throttle body but realize this is a common and dangerous problem that ford is not taking care of or even acknowledging there is a problem. knowing that the throttle bodies were on back order not long ago means to me they are in big demand so there must be a problem.

 Early july 2010 car would surge after started when placed into drive or reverse. july 17,2010 about 95 degrees ambient. driving 55 mph car started to lose power and stall. restarted and it went into limp mode with check engine light and occasional surges. i found a ford dealer about 5 miles away. diagnosis was a bad mass air flow sensor. replaced and we were on our way again. early june 2011 it was surging after starting when placed in drive or reverse. june 11,2011. car stalled and went into limp mode again with check engine light on. bought a new mass air flow sensor, installed it myself and cleared the code. july 5,2011 while driving to baltimore at 65 mph and 100 degree ambient, car stalled, restarted and it went into limp mode with check engine light on. i found a parking lot with shade and let it idle for about 20 minutes. shut it off and restarted. check engine light was off and it ran fine to baltimore. this appears to be an issue with the mass air flow circuit. nhtsa cannot ignore this flaw.

 My 2006 ford freestyle has an issue where the rpm stays at 1500 allowing my vehicle to move at speeds of 25 - 30 mph with my foot off of the gas pedal. while stopped at a traffic light, the rpm was at 1500 then dropped all of a sudden causing the engine to almost stall. the rpms then jumped up again to avoid the engine stall causing my vehicle to move forward. in researching possible causes on the internet, i found that many ford owners have experienced the same issue and had to replace the throttle body (throttle position sensor). i called ford customer service and despite the numerous consumer complaints, there was no recall or no issue reported related to this serious acceleration issue. i was told to take the vehicle to my local dealer, have it repaired, and if ford decided to put out a recall that i may be reimbursed for this issue. my concern with ford

 2 months in (cruise control causes car to shut down) continues to do so weh used at 35 mph or less. 3 mo. in (car looses power and surges randomly mainly in parking mode. also power lost while driving down road beteen 30 mph and 60 mph 6 months in all lights surge when used. a/c useage aggitates all symptoms but does not have to be in use for occurance. one or all occurances happen everytime driven, air filter changed(no help) car is now harder to start. plans for throttle body cleaning in the next week though. will update on results.

 June 2010 i started having problems with the vehicle lurching forward/backward while in gear and foot firmly on brake. the car would stall and i would have to wait 5-10 minutes to re-start. it seemed to be worse when the a/c was running. still having problems today. took the vehicle to dick masheter ford in columbus, oh per ford's customer service. they ran a diagnostic test (with a waived fee per ford) and after letting the vehicle and a/c run for awhile they did notice a light serge at idle in gear with a/c on and turning at the same time. i do not feel safe driving the vehicle when the a/c needs to be ran. it will lurch a good foot if not more when it is at its worst.

 I have a 2006 ford freestyle. over the past 4-6 months i have noticed the car surging and lurching forward after coming to a complete stop with my foot still completely on the break. i have almost collided with vehicles in front of me as well as pedestians in the crosswalk! this also happens when the car is in reverse backing out of the driveway and stopping to shift into drive. the car will surge or lurch backwards and if you are not covering the brake while in drive or reverse, the car will accelerate without touching the gas pedal. i took the vehicle to frontier ford in san jose, ca and the mechanic diagnosed this problem as a bad throttle body. from my research, this is a widespread problem with this make & model vehicle. i believe this problem may very well lead to a serious tragedy if this common problem is not recalled. please help us owners of these cars remain safe and not kill someone because of this failer! a recall is badly needed !!!

 While idling in park with a/c on, put vehicle in reverse or drive and vehicle began to qiuckly accelarate without pressing the accelarator pedal. had to quickly press the brake pedal to avoid running into people/vehicle. even with brake pedal being applied, vehicle tends to lurch in reverse or drive. this began occasionally at around 70,000 miles but now happens continually. ford delaer said it is a common problem on this model and is caused by a part that is on back order for months. vehicle is unsafe to operate.

 Currently own a 2006 ford freestyle. car started accelerating on own. drove it immediately to a shop, for fear of driving family in it. turns out it is a faulty electronic throttle body, similar to toyota problems. spoke to ford dealership service manager who said that this is a national problem, on backorder, currently though no recall. insist that this is a huge safety issue, similar to toyota's issues and ford should stand behind getting this problem resolved. dealership said backorder of parts could be 3-4 weeks. not safe to drive car. expensive to fix.

 Sunroof/moonroof leak: possibly allows water inside vehicle every time it gets wet.brought the vehicle to the selling dealer approximately 16 mos. into warranty. i thought it was a windshield leak at first and the service rep told me i would have to go to a glass company.i explained that i had not had any glass replaced on the vehicle and that it was a ford problem, to which they responded that they would check it out.when i returned to pick up the vehicle they told me that they could not find the leak.i asked if they had put water on the car roof and they said they had not to which i questioned how can you find a water leak without water? i refused to pick up the car and they said they would try water.the next day they called to say the leak was repaired,that there was a service bulletin about the moonroof leak, and that they had rerouted the drains to fix the problem. i believed them. i forgot about the problem until march 09 at which time i was out of warranty and was told by a customer service rep in dearborn that i would have to have it evaluated at a ford dealer at my expense.i declined this.now roughly one year later it is back again and i have concerns that it probably will lead to mold, if it hasn't already, and that because the water stays above the headliner, the wiring for my rear brakelights as well as the side curtain airbags could possibly be compromised,in addition to leading to premature rust through or rot where the water eventually comes out.also i feel betrayed by ford because i have copies of other tsb's which pertain to my vehicle but were not taken care of because i did not complain of those symptoms at the time of service and now that i've realised i have those problems it's too late for them to be covered .i believe every new vehicle owner should receive notice from the manufacturer about every problem concerning their vehicle and that every time a dealer services a product under warranty, that all tsb's are checked and acted upon

 At the beginning of february, my kids wanted to watch a dvd in the car while i was cleaning the driveway. i put the keys in the ignition (i did not start the engine) for the dvd to work, put on the dvd and start cleaning the driveway. few minutes later i have seen a big smoke coming from the outside passenger side mirror. i have checked the mirror and it was in flames. i took the kids out of the car, took the keys out of ignition, remove the back cover of the mirror and put out the fire which was coming from a bundle of wires inside the mirror assembly. *tr

 Upon lowering the driver side window to get a parking lot ticket, the window would not then go back up. it was no longer working. other windows were still working fine, but the driver side window could not be closed. i had to leave the car at the amtrak station as i was about to catch a train. roadside assistance towed the vehicle to the nearest ford dealer for inspection. the vehicle was less than a month old! upon inspection it was discovered that the driver side window motor had burned out. in addition, service found a chafed/exposed wire in the door next to the junction box. they replaced this also. *jb
