 My car accelerates sometimes while my foot is on the brake pedal. it feels like it is jumping forward or something. also when i turn on my air condition my car, if in motion, will start to jump forward even though you have your foot on the brake. it even cut off on me several times with the air conditioning on. i now just drive without air at all because i am scared that my car will just stop on me. also my air only works on the highest level. *tr

 I purchased my 2006 ford freestyle in december 2009. as soon as the weather got warmer i noticed that when parking, backing up, or trying to stop, the vehicle would surge as if i still had my foot on the accelerator. soon it also started surging/sputtering when i first started out and would occasionally stall, twice in heavy traffic. i took the vehicle to the ford dealership to discover that the throttle body position sensor doesn't work properly & that all freestyles were having the same problem. i was shocked to find that a new unit could be put in but was not covered as a recall and was going to cost $1000. as a single mom, that was just impossibe. luckily my disabled father was previously a mechanic and was able to use carb cleaner to clean the sensor and temporarily stop the problem. since then, every spring the problem comes back and i have to have the throttle body unit cleaned several times before winter. another problem i have with this vehicle is that the brakes wear out unusually quickly. i don't know if it's because of having to fight the throttle position sensor to stop the car, or if it's a flaw in the design of the brake system. i do know that when it starts to feel like they are wearing out i have to replace them asap because the more they get worn the faster they wear out, if that makes sense. something i've just recently noticed is that the lights (interior, exterior, display, all of them) have been almost blinking...getting brighter/dimmer and at the same time my a/c blows harder/softer, like they are surging as well. upon further examination i found that the top and bottom driver's side motor mounts have cracked/rotted bushings. ford should absolutely replace these throttle bodies without question; my children ride in my freestyle every day and one close call is one too many. i want this fixed once and for all.

 Sept 2011: started vehicle and put in reverse to back out of a space and engine revved. if i did not have my foot on the brake it would have leaped backwards thru the parking lot. when i shifted into drive it briefly tried to leap forward. i turned the vehicle off, turned it back on and the diagnostic warning light went off and vehicle seemed normal. throttle body replaced by ford ($800+). nov 2011: speed over 50 mph, went to pass another vehicle and when i pressed the accelerator the vehicle bogged down, rpms revved and it would go no faster than 35-40 mph. diagnostic light comes on. pulled over, turned the vehicle off briefly, restarted, diagnostic light goes out and i proceeded. as long as i do not punch it in high gear i can increase speed when going over 50. increase must be gradual. condition has happened several times since initial instance.

 Car surges when changing gears. problem worse with fan controls on. rpm's stay above normal idle (750-800) most of the time. car will accelerate without using gas peddle at times. must keep a constant vigilance with foot on brake. went through all the basic fixes (mainly cleaning of throttle linkage and module) . was told the throttle body needs replaced ($1000+). this module is mounted on top of the engine-why? this is not a unique problem with this car. many, many many people with ford freestyles have had this same problem. other people have had this module replaced and that either did not fix the problem or it was a temporary fix. i believe it is a ford engineering design flaw. did not fix the vehicle. bought another car and got rid of this safety hazzard.

 I have always owned fords however this is by far the scariest ford car ever and to me the unsafest!! i purchased my ford freestyle back in october 2010. ever since then my car seems to have a mind of its own. when i am completely stopped my car will automatically lunge forward and even stall when i am turning my wheel. i have a 5 year old child who i drive everyday to school in this death trap and it scares me to death. i have tried talking to my ford dealership about this since the car was like this when i bought it but of course they want me to spend all this money i do not have on repairs...after internet research it appears there are hundreds of people that have the same problem with this vechicle. why isn't anyone doing something about this to protect the consumer? it is very scarey and i do not understand why the car is lunging forward and backwards if backing up when my foot is clearly on the brake as well as stalling . i hope someone will do something about it before someone ends up in an accident or even dead because of this!! that would be a serous lawsuit i am sure. this is a serious issue please please do a recall on it now if not for me for the sake of someones life who is driving one of these unsafe vechicles.

 Tl- the contact owns a 2006 ford freestyle. after starting the vehicle the contact shifted the vehicle into reverse and noticed that the vehicle had began to accelerate without the contact pressing the acceleration pedal. the vehicle has not been diagnosed and no repairs have been made. the current mileage is 124000 and the failure mileage was 85000. bml

 On july 16,2010 my freestyle lunged forward with my son and his two children after a ball game. they were in a line of cars trying to get on the road home. after driving a few miles it quit running and died. it had to be towed in. service department replaced air flow sensor and other things and said it was ok. on august 10, 2010 i was trying to get on highway and my car lunged again. this time they tried to contact ford motor. got no response, so they replaced throttle controll. then in may of 2011 my air conditioner was repaired and while driving slow, my car lunged again. you can tell when it is going to act up. when you push on brakes you have to press really hard to get it stopped. took it back to service and they drove it and it never happened on them. they said the engine would idle up when driving slow and running air conditioner. but when you have to apply so much pressure on the brakes you raise up off your seat somethings not right.these automobiles are dangerous. i am on a fixed income since i lost my husband and cannot afford to trade cars. i am stuck with it.

 When pulling out of my driveway the car would not accelerate, seemed to not have any power. then when placing my foot on the brake at a stop sign it surged forward. it was really scarey and had there been traffic, i would have been hit broad side, as i felt i couldn't control the car. the wrench light came on, and as i drove my son to school, the car continued to either have no power or was surging forward, i called my local dealer where i had just had the cvt transmission replaced in september, and asked to bring it in. they diagnosed it as a throttle body problem, and replaced it. i had asked about this when the transmission was replaced, and they had told me they didn't know about any problems. oh please!!!!!! i've also had two very dangerous tire blow outs, and after some research see that unusual inside tire wear has also been a problem on freestyles due to the sway bar links. now tomorrow.... i am back at the dealer for the engine mount, yet another repeat problem that needs to be recalled. please help us get these dangerous cars recalled and repaired!

 This incident actually started happening in 2006 not too long after i had bought the vehicle; however it did it only once or twice, or maybe not even so much that i noticed it; however in the past year and a 1/2 i have been experiencing the car lunging forward or backward. it always seems to do it when pulling in or backing out of a parking lot or the driveway. i have noticed that it seems to occur when the ac unit is on. turn the ac unit off and it doesn't do this. i find this very disturbing because even with foot on brakes the car doesn't want to stop, it wants to proceed. fortunatley for us it hasn't resulted in any kind of collision. i feel it is only a matter of time before something bad happens. please investigate and issue recall. i understand that it is a throttle body issue which costs a lot of money and this is the only family car we have. i can't afford to pay to have this fixed. struggling as it is after 2 job losses in 3 years time. please help!

 The car when your at a stop or low speed, in drive or reverse the car will try to lurch.when driving down the highway it's fine but when you come to a stop the wrench light comes on. a couple of times the car wouldn't go right away but eventually it would sometimes after turning the car off and back on again the wrench would be gone and would be able to go. sounds like sometimes the car isnt shifting right.the lurching is really noticeable when the a/c is on. can't have the a/c on when at a stop or it will lurch.

 The 2006 ford freestyle that my wife and i bought in winter of 2008, was a great car for the first year. we noticed after the first 12-13 months that it was having a serious issue with the throttle, as in... the car would start revving while at idle... you could be stopped at a stoplight and it would lunge so hard that it would push itself half a car length into the intersection before you could stop it. if it were in reverse it would lunge even harder. we had taken it to the dealership a couple of times but the could never recreate the issue according to them. then 1 month out of warranty they could all of the sudden recreate the issue and it cost us $825 for a new throttle body. we replaced it, and we have kept all receipts incase of a recall. the car was good again for another 12 months, then it starts doing it again... again the ford dealership cannot seem to recreate the issue. then today they can amazingly assess everything and tell us that will cost us $1300+ to fix yet another throttle control issue. why is there no recall by the company here... there is already a class action lawsuit in california against ford for 2005-2007 freestyle . my wife is scared to death to drive this vehicle anymore. i know that there are thousands of othe freestyle owners with the exact issue here. something really needs to be done to fix this.

 Engine revs and vehicle lurches while placing the car in reverse, even with foot firmly on the brakes. appears to be worse when air conditioner is on. vehicle has lost virtually all power while driving. when this happens, you can floor the gas peddle but the vehicle won't go over 10-15mph. pulling over to the side of the road, turning vehicle off, waiting 15 seconds or so, then restarting, seems to reset the vehicle to a more functionable level. the vehicle also has an extensive exhaust smell and it is currently at the shop for a $566 repair for the diagnostic exam and that diagnosis indicating that the egr valve needs to be replaced. i called ford and they do not have a current recall for the egr valve, or throttle body-which seems to be a correlated problem within the two.

 On several occasions while i was driving in route to work or the grocery store, my 06 ford freestyle seemed slow and sluggish to respond as i would be waiting at a red light for the green. when the light did turn green and i would press the gas pedal to go, the car would shut off. a few times there were close calls as the car behind me would be unaware i was having trouble and almost rear-end me. when the car would cut off, i would proceed to restart the car and then press the gas to go. the car seemed to respond extremely slow like i would have the gas pedal pressed to the floor and would only be able to go 20 - 25 mph. on other occasions, the car would seem to lurch forward or backward (depending on if i had the car in drive or reverse) as soon as i would take my foot off the brake. after the 3rd or 4th time this happened, i took the car to a local shop who had to refer me to my local ford dealer. when i took the car to be looked at, ford explained to me that the throttle body was bad and needed to be replaced as it was causing an electrical communication mishap in the car. so over $900 later, the car was fixed. i did do my research and found that several other 06 ford freestyles had had the exact same problem. even the service man at the ford dealer who fixed my car said that he had just had his 06 freestyle repaired for the same reason. this is a very serious and potentially dangerous problem. we should not have to wait until someone is seriously injured or dies to do something to fix the problem like a recall. there were times when i thought i was going to be rear-ended, in an accident, or possibly drive through my house. a recall would be being proactive instead of waiting to be reactive. being proactive shows that the ford cares for its consumers and appreciates them as well. safety should be priority #1!!!

 Vehicle surges at low speeds. the problem is worse with the air conditioning on.

 On several occasions while i was driving in route to work or the grocery store, my 06 ford freestyle seemed slow and sluggish to respond as i would be waiting at a red light for the green. when the light did turn green and i would press the gas pedal to go, the car would shut off. a few times there were close calls as the car behind me would be unaware i was having trouble and almost rear-end me. when the car would cut off, i would proceed to restart the car and then press the gas to go. the car seemed to respond extremely slow like i would have the gas pedal pressed to the floor and would only be able to go 20 - 25 mph. on other occasions, the car would seem to lurch forward or backward (depending on if i had the car in drive or reverse) as soon as i would take my foot off the brake. after the 3rd or 4th time this happened, i took the car to a local shop who had to refer me to my local ford dealer. when i took the car to be looked at, ford explained to me that the throttle body was bad and needed to be replaced as it was causing an electrical communication mishap in the car. so over $900 later, the car was fixed. i did do my research and found that several other 06 ford freestyles had had the exact same problem. even the service man at the ford dealer who fixed my car said that he had just had his 06 freestyle repaired for the same reason. this is a very serious and potentially dangerous problem. we should not have to wait until someone is seriously injured or dies to do something to fix the problem like a recall. there were times when i thought i was going to be rear-ended, in an accident, or possibly drive through my house. a recall would be being proactive instead of waiting to be reactive. being proactive shows that the ford cares for its consumers and appreciates them as well. safety should be priority #1!!!

 One day our ford freestyle decided to lurch forward on it's own. it then lost power and had several more surges. it was under an extended warranty (which i paid for) at the time and was covered. ford however was well aware of the problem and we had to wait 1 month for a replacement throttle body to be manufactured. we were however paying for insurance on the rental out of our own pocket. after getting the car back we have had several more of the same type of incidents over the past year all of which mysteriously went away after turning the car off and then back on again. today it happened again this time it would not go away. i had an expert read the trouble codes from the cars computer. the results are all once again contained to the throttle body unit. ford let me know the part was out of warranty after 12,000 miles and repairs will cost me an additional 800 dollars. my wife uses this car to get around with my 7 year old and infant baby. this is a serious problem that could potentially end up with a tragic outcome. it is unacceptable that ford can act like this is not there fault and not be held accountable. my car is built on the ford 500 chassis and that car too has the same issues along with a few others. something should be done about this it immediately before someone gets killed if they haven't been already. i will pay again to have my car fixed again only because my family is in danger and i am being forced to. i have researched this extensively an know we are not alone. please finish this investigation and hold ford motor company accountable. thank you for your services in helping keep american lives safe!

 I have now had the diagnostic ran and the bad throttle body came in. i contacted ford and filed a complaint and request for financial assistance. there are are hundreds of blog entries with this same issue. it is dangerous and some people are buying new cars because of it. i do not have this luxury. the repair is going to cost around $750.00 which i cannot afford either. if ford knows about this, and it is currently under investigation, then why is there no recall? this car is a danger on the roads. we are being put in harms way every day, and now to boot we are having to replace a defective part that owners have had issues with for the past 2 years. the posts i have read are from all across the country, with people having the exact same issues. we are being taken advantage of. please make them do something about this. sounds a lot like toyota...

 2006 ford freestyle strongly surged/lunged a distance of 5 feet forward from stop immediately after putting vehicle in gear and with foot on the brakes. if a pedestrian or other vehicle had been in front of the car, we would have hit the pedestrian or vehicle. the same has happened countless times in both forward and reverse. ford dealer is unable to diagnose specific corrective action nor has ford motor company issued a recall despite thousands of reports on the internet of this problem and potential danger and injury.

 At startup when i put the vehicle into forward or reverse gears the engine races and the vehicle lurches in reverse or forward depending which gear it is in. since i have my foot on the break while putting it into gear i haven't had an accident. also, several times when this happened the service engine light came on and the vehicle had very little power. after i turned the engine off , sat awhile and turned the engine on the service light did no come on until this happened again. i have heard of this happening to others ,so, consequently, i believe this could be a manufacturing defect.

 The car began to jerk and lurch, and engine speed abruptly slowed after about (3) hours of highway driving (from vermont to new hampshire). a trouble light (wrench icon) appeared. engine rpms fluctuated, but vehicle would not respond to the gas pedal. pulled over, waited a few minutes, restarted the car. trouble light was no longer on, and the vehicle was fine and normal for the rest of the ride home. brought car to portsmouth ford, who could not find any problem. second incident, january 2011: highway drive back to new hampshire from connecticut. same problem. abrupt and alarming drop in car speed. no throttle control. erratic engine rpm performance. attempted to pull off interstate highway to a safe area. waited 5 minutes. re-started the engine. trouble light gone, engine performed fine, and no issue the rest of the trip. brought the car for transmission service to valvoline, then to dowling ford where the vehicle was purchased. third incident, march 2011: after (2) hours of highway driving abrupt drop in engine speed while attempting to merge on interstate 84. lost throttle control. near collision with a tractor-trailer in bad weather while trying to get out of the way and off the highway. frightening experience. brought car to bob thomas ford in hamden, connecticut for a transmission program update and complete transmission service. dealer could not find a problem with the vehicle. fourth incident, june 24, 2011: again on i-84 in the rain after 2.5 hours of highway cruising. radical loss of engine power and vehicle speed. my daughter barely avoided a collision attempting to maneuver off the highway in heavy traffic with erratic throttle control. daughter called me in a panic, crying. waited off the highway a few minutes, re-started, and was fine. car no longer used on the highway, just locally.

 Was driving vehicle, attempting to pass another vehicle, my vehicle lost power and i was unable to pass. could not bring vehicle to full power. took to ford dealership, they said it was the driveability and made the repair. then on 5/15/2011, the same problem occurred when attempting to enter freeway. again taken to ford delearship. this time they said it was transmission control system, repairs made. this problem again occurred yesterday, again when on freeway traveling at 60 mph, vehicle lost power and could not return vehicle to full power. i feel that my life and the lives of my family members are in danger due to the problems with this vehicle and the inability of the ford delearship to make repairs. we have read that others with this make and model vehicle have had similar problems and are reporting issues with the throttle body.

 We purchased a brand new 2006 ford freestyle in march, 2007. on june 14, 2011, and to a lesser extent, periodically since vehicle purchase, the vehicle's engine surged while my foot was on the brake pedal; the vehicle failed to accelerate to normal speed; and, it acted like it didn't want to shift into next gear. the june 14, 2011 occurrence was the worst one, plus, the wrench light came on. our local ford dealership diagnosis is that the throttle body needs to be replaced...at only 37,200 miles. repair estimate from the dealership to replace the part is $836.48. dealership also determined that an engine mount bracket/gasket needs to be replaced for cost of $424.00; rear brakes will be needed within 5,00 miles for $374, if new rotors are needed; and, new battery is needed now for a cost of $138...all this at only 37,200 miles. we foolishly purchased an extended warranty when we bought the vehicle. ford tells us that the warranty only covers the power train, and since the throttle body is considered to be electronic, the warranty will not apply. we were led to believe that it was a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty when we agreed to purchase the warranty. we are very unhappy campers! no more extended warranties for us. we believe that ford should be responsible at least for the throttle body replacement, in full. we are afraid to drive the vehicle now, and even when it is repaired we will still be afraid because of the history of the freestyle problems that we have read about online. please help! thanks.

 On several occasions my 06 ford freestyle has had and unexplained jerk/lunge in motion. we purchased the car in oct 08 and the problems started nov 08. i have gotten to the point where i have had enough, and my faith in ford is slowly wilting away. the jerk/lunge normally occurs while coming to a stop at red light or stop sign, or going idle speed in the following places drive-thru, parking lot, while reversing or parking the car. today when i got back from the grocery store i was reversing into my garage and the car started to lunge i applied the break and it continued to jerk about a foot till it stopped. i was not sure the car would stop, this scared me half to death, i kept on thinking what if someone was behind me. i tried again and it happened 2 more times before i shut the car off. i then turned everything off in the car started the car again and put it into reverse and everything was fine. i was very grateful that this happened in my own drive way. if i was in a parking lot i could have hit a car with it moving a foot and i could have hit someone. the jerking/lunging in the car is very sporadic and has happened while my husband drove the car as well, so it is not operator error. it is so sporadic that this action is hard to recreate at a given notice you can not predict the time but you can anticipate that it will happen at least 3 times a week. some may think that if it is hard to recreate then it is not a problem, but if it happens at least 3 times a week that is something to look at especially when you are thinking about human life. a vehicle is not a luxury item especially to a military family like we are. it is a necessity that should be dependable and the manufacturer should stand behind there products. i have two small children and wonder what to do next. thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope there will be a resolution to this soon.

 We purchased a brand new 2006 ford freestyle in march, 2007. on june 14, 2011, and to a lesser extent, periodically since vehicle purchase, the vehicle's engine surged while my foot was on the brake pedal; the vehicle failed to accelerate to normal speed; and, it acted like it didn't want to shift into next gear. the june 14, 2011 occurrence was the worst one, plus, the wrench light came on. our local ford dealership diagnosis is that the throttle body needs to be replaced...at only 37,200 miles. repair estimate from the dealership to replace the part is $836.48. dealership also determined that an engine mount bracket/gasket needs to be replaced for cost of $424.00; rear brakes will be needed within 5,00 miles for $374, if new rotors are needed; and, new battery is needed now for a cost of $138...all this at only 37,200 miles. we foolishly purchased an extended warranty when we bought the vehicle. ford tells us that the warranty only covers the power train, and since the throttle body is considered to be electronic, the warranty will not apply. we were led to believe that it was a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty when we agreed to purchase the warranty. we are very unhappy campers! no more extended warranties for us. we believe that ford should be responsible at least for the throttle body replacement, in full. we are afraid to drive the vehicle now, and even when it is repaired we will still be afraid because of the history of the freestyle problems that we have read about online. please help! thanks.

 I was waiting in line to pick my daughter up from school today. when she got in the car i took my foot off of the brake and my car lunged forward and almost hit the car in front of me. i had to push down on the brake to stop my car from crashing into the car in front of me. when i attempted to take my foot off of the brake for a second time and to drive around the other car, my car lunged again and almost stalled.

 Excessive brake dust. was informed that rear brakes were down to metal. rotors were so worn they could not be turned.replaced rear brakes and rotors.took car in for routine check and mentioned that the rear bar that the 3rd row of seats holds onto was rusting. asked if they could check for leaks and if other people were complaining. they found no leaks and said i must have gotten the car excessively wet on the inside (no!). i also complained about a sour moldy smell coming from the air conditioner...again no solution.had to replace tires becuase they wor out 'prematurely'. was told it was my driving. dealership would not do anything under warranty or offer help. tires had abnormal wear on the inside(toeing?) then i was getting very poor gas mileage and needed a routine check and oil change again. i took it in and was informed i had no rear brakes left. the rear calipers were failing to release. once again brake assembly was replaced. took car in for and engine noise/whine 3 different times and had a tech ride with me. each time they heard nothing and did nothing. took car in for a loud noise coming from rear wheel along with a burning smell. tech rode with me and did not hear any noise from tire but did comment about the engine noise/whine. i was finally relieved that he heard it and i told him no other tech has seemed to hear it. car was looked at and found that rear driver tire bearings were shot and wheel was loose(very dangerous they said) they had to order parts. when i asked what they found out about the engine whine that the tech also heard, i was told there was no mention of it but they would look into it before i came to pick up my car. next i got a phone call saying the shop foreman didn't hear the noise, so there was nothing they could do.now for the last two days my car has started really rough and then died. yesterday it surged forward and the wrench light turned on. i took it in and now they say the code says there is a transmission failure!? 45,000. *tr

 I have a 2006 ford freestyle with 52,000 miles on it. last summer, it began lurching when stopped or moving slowly. it continued to get worse until last week when it began doing it so badly, the vehicle just died. when it was restarted, the check engine light was on and the vehicle was running very rough. i drove to autozone and the two engine codes were p0106 and p0109. they erased them and following the ford freestyle forums, i purchased some throttle-body cleaner. once home, i cleaned the throttle body and it seems to have helped the issue, although it still is surging some. it's crystal clear that ford needs to honor this issue as a recall and not expect me to pay $700 at the dealer to have it fixed.

 After sitting in park for 20 minutes, my 2006 ford freestyle was put into reverse to back out of a driveway and quickly accelerated while my foot was on the brake. after putting the car back in park, the wrench and indicator lights came on on the dashboard. i placed the car back into reverse when the vehicle proceeded to accelerate again with my foot on the brake. after backing out of the driveway, the vehicle was put into drive where it proceeded to accelerate without my foot on the accelerator. the vehicle has since been taken to a ford dealer to be repaired. the dealer states that it is a problem with the exhaust gas recirculation which they are not covering since the vehicle's warranty has expired.
