| I was on the freeway driving freeway speed in the middle lane when the engine stopped, i had no power. i was very lucky to be able to get to the freeway shoulder without an incident. after a few minutes, the engine started and back at freeway speed. a few miles later, the same happened. this continued for the next several hundred miles. start,stop,start stop etc. cost to replace fuel pump...$1000. nov. 22, 2012 (two months later) @ 48200 miles, again on the freeway, the same happened. one hundred miles and four hours later i got to the repair shop. another fuel pump, this time it was warranty by planet ford here in spring, texas. nov. 2, 2012 at mileage 56023 another fuel pump failure. ford said only the first pump fell under their warranty policy. i was told by a mechanic at ford, i should try not to let the fuel tank get less than half full, the fuel in the tank keeps the pump cool. another mechanic told me that because the drive shaft goes thru the tank, the tank is split and can cause the pump to overheat. can you help? thanks. | |||

| After i bought my freestyle, i started having serious surging issues, especially after idling for a time or when trying to park the vehicle. sometimes it would occur during rush hour traffic, endangering my life and the lives of other motorists. i took the car to the dealership. the techs suggested replacing various components of the car a/c system and other related components. no successful resolution was ever reached with the dealership, even after the suggested repairs were made. i continued to have surging issues, making the car unsafe. in january 2013, i took the car to a reputable mechanic who diagnosed the car with transmission failure, specifically the input shaft. i believe that the surging issue related to the subsequent transmission failure. not only is my car unsafe to drive due to the surging issue, but now is completely undriveable due to the transmission failure. i was made aware in january 2013 that ford issued a tsb in december 2012 relating to the surging issue and recommended a fix that would competely resolve the issue. but i believe this tsb came way too late. the surging damaged the transmission and thus created a problem within the transmission that wasn't there before. ford took steps to solve a problem that made their cars unsafe. now they need to come forward and further address the issue that the surging not only made the car unsafe, but damaged the car and then submit measures to resolve the issues of damaged transmissions. | |||

| While at a signal completely stopped, the vehicle motor revved and excelled acted forward. this caused the engine to die and all dash lights came on. the engine light stayed on after restarting. this has happened several time almost causing several accidents. we have had our transmission replaced because of it. the amount of times it happened and torque it produced caused damage in transmission. we have had several mechanics refuse to work on this issue because they say this model is know to do this and no one knows how to fix it. i am out $7000 and a unreliable car that is unsafe to put my wife and kids in. ford has said they would look at it and would cost me another $5000, and we're not sure if they themselves could fix it. they are not sure what the issue is, but would be willing to research if i pay for it. *tr | |||

| First time driving in the snow today in my freestyle and as i was coming to a stop sign. i was braking and my car accelerated all by itself and i could not stop and went through the stop sign! i had my two kids in the car with me and it scared me to death! i am just glad there was no other vehicles around at the time. my car has done this in the past and its not safe at all but driving in the snow is extremely dangerous and i am scared to drive my own vehicle it seems to be getting worse. | |||

| At 49,660 miles we had to have the throttle body changed because the car lunged forward and stalled out. on june 19, 2012 our 2007 ford freestyle was serviced with a transmission flush and fluid change, and a multi-point inspection. everything looked good. on nov. 5, 2012 it would rev up when driving and would not accelerate. after researching, we found out that the cvt transmission that was put in the 2005-2007 ford freestyle is a defective design that poses numerous safety concerns. ford does not even make the transmission any more, so our only choice is to pay over $5000 for a used/rebuilt one that may have the same problems. our car is only 5 years old. we have taken good care of it. we need a reliable vehicle and do not have the money to fix this. please have ford recall these faulty cvt transmissions and have more concern for safety and customer satisfaction. *tr | |||

| I purchased my 2007 ff dec of 2010. three months after purchase, i noticed mild acceleration sometimes without applying my foot to the pedal. it became progressively worse by mid june. so much so that i contacted drivetime where i purchased the car & they gave me some transmission shop to take it to, only be told that it was normal for that particular transmission. well, by 2012, the uninitiated acceleration has become so bad that a few months ago my car accelerated on its own & ran slam into the back of a lady's car causing more than $2000 worth of damage. i tried to explain to police that my car accelerated abruptly without me doing anything but slightly lifting my foot from the brake (never touching the gas). he didn't give me a ticket but said it was still my fault. my kids call the car a transformer but it is the worse trying to keep it from plunging forward or backward & hitting something or someone! i have to make absolute sure no one is around when i am in shopping lots because i am afraid when the car takes off backwards from parking spaces. i usually have to slam on brakes but then the car shuts off &on comes the engine light. something has to be done about this dangerous problem with the ford freestyle!!! *tr | |||

| We purchased this vehicle new 8/18/07 from palm coast ford. in may or june 2010 i began noticing the car lunging when backing out of parking spots or once you have backed out and then placed into drive. i also encountered an issue with the car stalling if parked on an incline. on 7.5.10 the vehicle was left for several days with palm coast ford for diagnostics and they claimed nothing was wrong with the car as they could not duplicate the issues. as this issue did not seem appropriate i visited the daytona beach ford dealership but this was not a documented visit as was the palm coast ford visit. the daytona ford service manager indicated it was a just the way the car was designed to prevent stalling when backing up or pulling forward. so i lived with this problem hoping that it wouldn't lunge and hit someone in a parking lot. my brother finally rode with me and said this is not correct so i took the vehicle to a non-ford repair shop who recommended a tune-up be accomplished. this occurred oct. 25, 2011 and corrected the problem. however, now whatever they accomplished with the tune-up is now wearing off as the vehicle has begun it's lunging problem again in the past few weeks. that's when i researched and found these incident reports so i want to report my problem to help you document there is definitely something going on with this make/model car. i like my freestyle but there's definitely an issue with the lunging situation. *tr | |||

| We purchased this vehicle new 8/18/07 from palm coast ford. in may or june 2010 i began noticing the car lunging when backing out of parking spots or once you have backed out and then placed into drive. i also encountered an issue with the car stalling if parked on an incline. on 7.5.10 the vehicle was left for several days with palm coast ford for diagnostics and they claimed nothing was wrong with the car as they could not duplicate the issues. as this issue did not seem appropriate i visited the daytona beach ford dealership but this was not a documented visit as was the palm coast ford visit. the daytona ford service manager indicated it was a just the way the car was designed to prevent stalling when backing up or pulling forward. so i lived with this problem hoping that it wouldn't lunge and hit someone in a parking lot. my brother finally rode with me and said this is not correct so i took the vehicle to a non-ford repair shop who recommended a tune-up be accomplished. this occurred oct. 25, 2011 and corrected the problem. however, now whatever they accomplished with the tune-up is now wearing off as the vehicle has begun it's lunging problem again in the past few weeks. that's when i researched and found these incident reports so i want to report my problem to help you document there is definitely something going on with this make/model car. i like my freestyle but there's definitely an issue with the lunging situation. | |||

| Have multiple issue with my ford freestyle: engine surges/lunges, then stalls at lights or driving at low speeds. after explaining this to ford before the warranty expired they kept the vehicle for days and claim issue was not duplicated...when i came back to them a month later i replaced the (etc) at ford's recommendation. they charged me for this. after about 3 years of having the vehicle, i had to replace the engine mount. the dash lights have been going out one by one. when the first one went, it happened before the warranty expired but, ford claimed it wasn't covered and wanted to charge me over $200 to replace a .10 cent light bulb. i told them not too and they still charged me $50.00 for the inspection. though the surging stopped for a year and a half after replacing the etc, the surging/lunging has returned. and since the warranty has long since expired and i am under-employed, i haven't had the money to replace this part again. *tr | |||

| The first incident occurred while i was at the store with my children. we were leaving the store as i put the freestyle in reverse, the engine made a loud dropping noise and would not reverse. i put the car back into park and looked around the outside to check for anything visible that would have caused the noise or lack of movement. i noticed the car idling at a high rpm. i got back in the car to try again with no luck. this is when the car surged forward. i then became scared and turned the car off. when i turned it back on everything was normal again. i drove it straight to the ford dealership. they were unable to duplicate the problems and told me to continuing driving it again until i got a light on my dash to prove to them i was having problems. they serviced my transmission at that time as well to find no issues. unfortunately, this was not covered with the warrenty so i had to pay out of pocket. since the first incident, i have experienced this issue 5 more times, mostly while in parking lots while idle. however the last incident was 1/10/12. this surge put my vehicle in the intersection. i took the car again to the dealership. this incident had the same issues with the engine sounding like it was dropping when switching into different gears and idling high. the car would not switch out of 2nd gear while the tech test drove it with me. there was a new issue that appeared with this incident. it is a grinding noise when the gas was applied. the grind is similar to the sound the brake would make when the anti-lock were to kick in, except the brakes are not being applied. this has caused the anti-skid light and abs light to kick on. i have maintained my car religiously since i purchased it so i do not believe this is a maintance issue. ford has been unable to solve these issues, charge customers for unnessasary repairs, and allow the vehicles to be driven. | |||

| This is the 2nd time my 2007 freestyle has started lunging. it will lunge in drive or reverse. starts out with small lunges but the lunges get bigger. then i find that it will lunge so hard i need to slam on the brakes. this causes the engine to stall. it is very difficult to drive upon restart. first experienced the lunge problem in may, 2009. took to dealer mechanic next day and was diagnosed as faulty throttle. replaced the throttle and now i once again have the same problem. replacing the throttle bottle didn't solve the problem. i also have had an issue with my a/c and a broken engine mount. not trusting the ford dealer mechanic, i took it to a third party. the parts alone were $1000.00 because they could get them from ford only. total cost to replace compressor and fix engine mount $2200. you can't drive in the hot arizona summers without ac. the lunging seems to get worse with the ac on and when turning the wheels. my first experience in 2009 and this one happened while starting to back out of parking spot. had ac on and cramped wheels to back out. as i eased by foot off the brake, the car just shot back almost hitting the vehicle behind me. slammed on brakes, car still tried to back up then stalled. the engine sounds like i have my foot on the brake and gas at the same time. racing and high rmps. taking back to dealer today. | |||

| My freestyle sel vehicle's (6/2006 prod. date) wrench light came on which is supposed to be for transmission problems. car hesitates on shifting, especially downhill. in the morning a slight lurch is experienced when pulling off before car is warmed sufficiently. car has 40k miles and has a 100k warranty so the dealer assessed the problem at a throttle body and put in a part order. the part needed is a non-water cooled one which is impossible to find until is goes into manufacture in december. i understand the earlier model 500s and freestyles use the water cooled version. the dealer made us pay for a rental and we had to complain to the service manager profusely before a loaner came in. seems we have been lucky, i hope focuses don't have the same problem. i was told by the service advisor that it is not typical for these cars to shutdown but why risk it. another dealer researched the problem and described the status in the parts system as the code from | |||

| We own a 2007 ford freestyle. when we come to a stop, for instance at a traffic light, the engine will rev up and the vehicle will lurch forward. this often causes the vehicle to then stall. this happens all the time if we are running the air conditioner. now we shut the air conditioner off while driving in town. we have avoided any incidents so far. although many times have had to apply extreme pressure to the brakes to keep from lurching into a vehicle in front of us. the vehicle will still lurch, but so far we have been able to stop it in time. as i said before the pressure we have to apply to the brakes is extreme. this also will happen when backing up. the engine will rev up and then die. | |||

| 2007 ford freestyle. consumer states vehicle had a burning smell and stopped running while driving *tgw the consumer stated the catalytic converter was replaced. a few days later, the burning smell returned and the vehicle stopped running. the dealer replaced the catalytic converter again. the consumer stated the catalytic converter was replaced three times. also, the manifold, gasket and seals had to be replaced because they melted due to heat. three months later. the oil light illuminated. the service mechanic informed the consumer there was no oil in the engine and he was unable to see any type of leak. the consumer was informed the entire exhaust system needed to be replaced as well as the ignition coil and fans, because the vehicle would probably overheat. *jb | |||

| I received a recall notice on the back brakes. had those replaced july08. in july09 i was backing out of a parking spot and when i put the car in reverse it accelerated and lurched forward almost hitting the car beside me. this happend several times. this went on for about a week. then every time i put it in reverse it would die then the transmission light came on. took it to the dealership and it was the throttle body and was replaced. in feb. 2010 i was informed that my back brakes were completely gone and needed to be replaced asap. in june10 the car started making a funny noise in park and no lights in the instrumental panel had come on. took it to the dealership and the input shaft bearing was out. which means a new transmission. in october10, as i was turning right into an intersection during morning rush hour traffic it would not accelerate. i had the pedal pushed all the way to the floor. and, the transmission light came on again. took it to the dealership, it was the throttle body again. | |||
