Read in paper that you were looking at ford throttle body. i was in fast lane on i-66 on a friday afternoon. suddenly car stopped. i was lucky there was room on left apron to pull off. car restarted when i tried--went 1000 feet and stopped again; now in right lane and pulled off. knew there was an off ramp 1/4 mile ahead and limped on apron with cars passing. the entire situation was very dangerous in my estimation. when restarting, it was hard to tell if auto was running or not. when restarting auto backfired etc. prior to this incident had reported to ford dealer that transmission sometime clunked when i put auto in reverse in the morning. they found no problem. have not had this problem since i paid to have the throttle body replaced.

While going 70 mph on the highway i experienced the same issues. my car stalled out shut off the cruise control and started shaking uncontrollable. i shut off the car and waited about five minutes and started it back up drove maybe another ten miles and it started again. on the following day i took it to the dealership where i purchased it from and they made it seem as if i had no ideal of what i was talking about. once they realized i knew that it was the throttle body assembly that was the problem i was told that this was not a part that was covered under warranty so i would have to pay for it out of pocket. i took the time to talk to several reps at ford and i was told that if the mechanic did not think it was defective then there was nothing they could do. i talked to the mechanic at the dealership and they told me that it just stopped working. so i ended up paying $479.05 for a new throttle body assembly and having to be without my car for a total of four day. only to get it back with a cracked windshield, but that is a different issue.

The first instance i was driving as normal in my vehicle and with out warning going 50 mph my car shut off with no power or ability to do anything besides to try and coast off the road and out of harm. a wrench light flashes when it occurs. the second time i was making a turn at approx 20 mph in a four way light intersection and lost power over the car again with a wrench light appearing again. the only way to gain power again is to put the car in park turn it off and wait a bit to restart the vehicle. when you restart the car the wrench light is gone and the car acts like there was never a problem and runs smoothly. after a 2 day diagnosis by ford they state that the throttle body is the cause of the problem. in total i have had this happen 5 times with out any warning going various speeds and luckly avoiding multiple accidents. like mentioned above after starting the car the wrench light disappears performing as usual.

I was pulling away from a stop sign when my 2010 ford fusion lost all power and stalled. i was able to get to the side of the road with my hazzard lights on. the lights on the dash illiumnitated (battery, check engine light, oil pressure). i turned the car off and waited a mintue then i restarted the car and it was a little rough to start up but once it did it seemed to work fine. i have searched the internet and found that many, many people report the same problem and it seems that it is related to the throttle body part. i don't know this for sure but that is what other posts are saying. i am afraid that the dealership won't be able to repolicate the problem and therefore won't fix it. i wish that ford would acknowledge the issue with the fusion and issue a recall, this is a very serious problem when your car loses power without warning.

Started driving to get home from work and suddenly the service advancetrac light came on, didn't notice anything until i did a turn. the steering felt stiff, not really paying attention to the problem got home shut off the car. the next morning heading to work turned on the car and then the service power steering now light had come on as well. after that the power steering was gone, i couldn't turn the wheels. did some research and a lot of fusions are having this problem and so far no results without spending thousands of dollars at the dealer. *tr

While turning left on a green arrow my accelerator became unresponsive, engine did not stop running but would only coast @ about 2 mph, wrench light icon and check engine light came on. the car was jerking during this slow coast to the side of the intersection. i had to put the car in park and completely shut it off.(as i was hitting my hazard lights and praying i didn't get hit by oncoming traffic as the light had changed by this time.) after a rough restart, it appeared to run fine. i took it to the mechanic and had my fuel system cleaned, but after doing research and finding many owners of the ford fusion have had this recurring problem, seemingly with their throttle body, i am very afraid to drive my car as this problem occurs with no warning beforehand and at all different speeds. i did notify ford customer service and was told that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. when i informed them of all the complaints online, they explained that they only acknowledge official ford websites. i pray that ford will issue a recall and fix this problem before somebody dies. *tr

Vehicle would lose all response to the accelerator pedal. it would happen at any time without warning, but first happened after speeding up after going over a speed bump. the next day it happened 3 times. on that last day, the day of the appointment at the dealership, it happened 4 times. the vehicle would not react to the input from the accelerator pedal. you would have to pull over, assuming there was a safe place to pull over, and shut the car off in park then restart it. everything would be normal until it acted up again, anywhere from 1 mile to 5 miles later. obvious safety issue, you can't power the vehicle to get out of the way of oncoming traffic it were to happen on a turn or merging on a freeway. a wreck could very easily have happened from this failure. it ended up being a bad electronic throttle body. this was not covered under the powertrain warranty and the total cost to replace was $352.40. *tr

2010 ford fusion on nov 8 2012 driving approximately 67 miles per hour with cruise control on and set, vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. repair light (lighted wrench) came on, cruise control went from green to amber. engine remained on but accelerator no longer worked. when accelerator depressed, engine did not respond. vehicle coasted to a stop. brakes, steering, and lights still worked. once stopped, shifted to park and depressed the accelerator and still no response from the engine. turned car off. restarted car. restart took a few extra seconds but did start. car operation returned to normal. cruise control worked. no further issues. weather was clear, no rain or wind, road was smooth. *tr

Each time (8 times) traveling at 40-67 mph and with traffic around and wrench light comes on along with check engine light; car then loses speed rapidly to only a few miles per hour. barely able to pull over before completely stopping. been in shop twice and both times, codes do not show anything nor have they seen the warning light and it happen to them after driving it for a total of 150 miles testing it. after each time it happens able to sit for 10-15 minutes and it start back up and run. very concerned for my family's safety as we have had several near miss accidents due to the car drastically dropping speed (out of our control) with each occurrence. after research on internet reading several stories of exact scenario (blaming throttle body)and ford has done nothing about it. please please please recall the parts and prevent a bad accident happening. *tr

I had not had any issues with my car, but i left my house to drive my daughter to tumbling which was 7 miles from my house. i was about 3 miles from my home when a warning sound and the lights on my dashboard stated check power steering. i assumed that i needed power steering. i arrived at tumbling, parked for an hour. when i started the car a new message was on the dash stating service power steering now and service advance autotrac. i put the car in reverse and backed up, but when i turned the steering wheel it was locked, i could barely move the wheel. i was blocking the traffic in the parking lot and had to pull forward and park. i turned the car off and on and received the same message. therefore i was stranded in the parking lot. we took the car to a ford service dept. they told us that this is an issue that they have been having with ford fusions as well as other fords but there was no recall. i paid for them to perform a diagnostic test the results were that they would have to replace the steering panel for $1500 and the part was on back order, but first they reset the codes, and the power steering warning was gone the car test drove and drove home fine. the next morning i left to take my daughters to school and the same cycle of events happened i was afraid to turn the car off when i dropped them off at school so that i would not be stranded. i kept the car on and drove the car to the dealership where i purchased the car paid again for a test and was told the same thing. i told them to repair the car. i called ford co. and they told me that they were not aware of this issue and although i saw numerous complaints on the internet they were not true. meanwhile my car is ready and i have to come up with 1500 for an issue that ford knows they are having problems with. i am afraid my car will have problems again, this is a safety issue when it comes to steering. *tr

While driving down the road, my engine lost power. rpms went down, and the accelerator was not responsive. i pulled the car to the side of the road, and put it in park. the engine idled very roughly. i shut off the car, waited 5 seconds and attempted to restart. the engine did restart after some effort by the starter. i drove down the road, and the car behaved normally. this seemingly isolated incident increased in frequency in the following weeks. sometimes up to 5 times a day. i took my car to an authorized ford dealer, and the problem was diagnosed as a faulty throttle body. cost of replacement is $355. i researched the problem online and noticed that the problem seems to be fairly common among 2010 ford fusion owners. the online complaints about fusion throttle body problems were exactly the same as the symptoms i experienced. the danger lies in the fact that the car basically stalls without warning and must be restarted before normal driving can resume. i have experienced this problem at both highway and city speeds. a stalled engine in the wrong place at the wrong time (middle of an intersection, freeway, while passing, etc.) could have disastrous effects. *tr

On a routine drive home from work, i exited the highway and noticed my rpms falling faster than what i was controlling with the brake. car was losing speed quickly with no rpms to accelerate it forward to a safe stopping point. was able to pull into a gas station right off highway, but barely as car was apparently entering limited power mode (determined via owners manual). upon placing car into car, dashboard wrench light illuminated. i then turned the car off, sat a minute, restarted car and everything was fine. within the course of the next 10 minutes, the same thing occurred 3 more times and check engine light illuminated. since the first time, this has occurred a total of 6 times while in motion with risk of causing a wreck due to lack of control to not cause car to stop abruptly in middle of road. shaking has occurred in 4 of the 6 occurrences and car just putters out until it is shut off. determination due to codes read is the throttle bottle- an electrical issue. while the limited power mode may be a safety feature, its interaction with the throttle body/idle issues poses a potential threat. the electrical issue that throttle bodies are experiencing within this make/model needs to be recalled and taken care off effectively and efficiently by ford. *tr

I was driving down the highway when i noticed that i could no longer accelerate. i coasted to a stop, the car shaking as it came to a stop. i placed the car in park, turned the car off, and restarted. it started up fine, and then it happened again about 10 minutes later. after a mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem, i thought it was perhaps bad gas and moved on. two weeks later, it happened twice, once stopping me in the middle of a busy intersection (because this time i wasn't going 60mph this time). the diagnosis from ford: a faulty throttle body sensor. the car is barely three years old, it has a significant defect (not caused by wear-and-tear or user-error), but it is not covered under their warranty. the mechanic at ford says that they see a lot of these situations. they are grossly negligent in not warning families and offering to fix their mistakes by replacing the bad throttle body components. *tr

I stopped the car to close the gas fill lid, engine running, went to get back in and all doors were locked, they locked themselves. it was over 90 degrees out, lucky i had my cell phone to call my wife to bring her keys so i could get back in. if my grandkids had been the car, it could have been a scary problem. *tr

Throttle control is defective. i have read several complaints about the same issue. the throttle control goes bad and then the car will abruptly lose power and stop in traffic. we were lucky that we weren't on the interstate when this happened. in order to move you have to put the car in park and shut it off and turn it back on. i had to have mine replaced yesterday. the car is only two years old and only has 50,000 miles on it. *tr

While traveling on the expressway with the cruise control on my engine returned to idle speed and there was no response from the accelerator pedal. i had to coast to a stop on the shoulder, put the car in park, shut it off, and restart it. the next day this happened again twice, the check engine light came on, i read the code and it was p2112 throttle actuator control system stuck shut. i did some research and there are apparently some known problems with the throttle body assembly. my car is out of warranty and the dealer told me this part isn't covered under the extended emissions warranty. i was lucky that this didn't happen while i was turning or merging into traffic. *tr

On multiple occasions the car will just lose all throttle response, the car is still running, but will not accelerate. i have to find some place to pull over and shut the car off. then restart the engine and then it will run good. the issue happens sometimes up six times in one day, and then you can go a week without an issue. i have seen this issue with speeds as low as 20 mph all the way up to 70 mph. from what i have read online it would appear to possibly be due to a defective throttle body. apparently this throttle body uses a servo to open and close the butterfly that allows air into the intake manifold. i feel this could be a very dangerous problem especially if you are driving and it loses the ability to accelerate and you can not find a safe place to pull over to restart the car. *tr

I went for an oil change and local center. the rep requested i come over to the car and see something. the battery acid covered the entire top of battery. it metaled the cables corroded the battery pan. the car is 2 years old and 22k miles. all were replaced by ford under the warranty. i would not normally complain about a battery but this is my second ford to have the same issue. i had ford edge prior which the same thing happened but i was past 36k in miles so they considered it wear and tear. i had to replace all wire, battery pan, and battery. ford needs to review the battery manufacturer they are using in there new cars.

I have a 2010 ford fusion with a four cylinder engine. while driving to work, i started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 550 rpm), but all systems where still working. pressing the gas pedal produced no results. i was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 15 seconds, and then restarted it. when the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. yesterday (june 1st), the fusion did the exact same thing, except this time i was pulling into an intersection (approximately 5 miles per hour). i had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. luckily no one was coming in my direction and i was able to pull off the road into a parking lot, stop the car, and then restart it. i took it to the dealer today and they diagnosed it as needing a new throttle body. they quoted the price and labor at $400 for the repair. i've had this car less than 1 year and it only has 49,800 miles on it. if i had been pulling onto a busy street and experienced the same loss of power, it could have been a much more dangerous situation. according to my research, this is a common problem with the 2010 ford fusion, and the replacement part has been redesigned according to the dealer where i took my car for repair.

I was driving on a 6 or 8 lane freeway when it suddenly downshifted to a much lower gear (probably 3rd) and the tachometer maxed at 7000 rpm and held there until i manually moved the shift lever to neutral. when i put it back in drive (still moving) it again raced to 7000 rpm and i put it in neutral and coasted to the side of the road. i put it in all the gears, then in drive and went back on the freeway. it stayed in 1st gear and i again went to the shoulder of the road. i shut the engine off, restarted it and got back on the freeway. it shifted ok, but after a few miles did it again. i sent my complaint to ford motor company, but they say they can't duplicate the actions and therefore can not/will not do anything about it. (see ford customer service case #0506021830 and my letter to them)

Bought my fusion in april 2011. began having problems immediately. usually happens when the engine is cold, upon accelerating the car would lurch terribly and hesitate. first the dealer could find nothing wrong. then they decided it was the transmission. put new transmission in. kept happening. finally, it happened when the service manager drove it. said ford would put new computer in the car. six weeks later since we heard nothing back, took the car to the sales rep and he said don't come get it until we fix it. today my husband is back at the dealer to get me another car. they act like i am imagining all this. i am ready for an arbitrator!

While driving down a major highway at 69 mph with the cruise control on, the car just lost power. i first noticed the headlights went out, then saw the anti theft light illuminate. i tried depressing the gas pedal, but got nothing. thankfully, i was able to coast out of the passing lane, into the right lane, and eventually to the side of the road without any tragedy. once along the roadside, i put the car in park and turned the key to shut off mode. i then turned it back on, car started up fine. i took it to my regular mechanic, his code reader found nothing. took it to the dealership i bought it from, they found nothing. it is now at a ford dealership, but my guess is they will find nothing. i am on the road at least 4 out of 5 days a week on major highways. i cannot afford for this to happen again. i may not be so lucky next time.

Transmission keeps on lurching forward and dealership cannot do anything about it now. it's a safety issue for me as i almost got into an accident on the street due to huge jump. transmission keeps on acting up and dealer keeps saying everything is fine and cannot duplicate the other since the time they rebuilt the transmission on my vehicle.

I was stopped at a traffic light, it turned green and stepped on the gas pedal and the car immediatley started to rough idle, the wrench indicator lit up and would not move forward. there was minimal response to throttle input. i was able to pull off the road out of traffic to a safe spot. i left the car running to see what was going on. the tachometer was fluctuating mainly downward as it idled rough. after about two minutes i turned off the motor. i made a few phone calls and while calling roadside assit decided to try and start the car. it started and i went straight to the dealership. as fate would have it, the dealership could not duplicate the concern and was not able to pinpoint the cause. they were kind enough to suggest replacing the throttle body and motor assembly. it cost me $512.38. needlessto say i am not at all happy with this issue. this issue could have occured in a more dynamic setting, heavy traffic, lane change or merging, etc, potentially causing threat to my life and that of others. this issue needs to be addressed by the manufacturer in my opinion.

As i was passing another vehicle, the vehicle lost power and a warning light illuminated telling me to pull over immediately. luckily i was able to make it to the side of the highway. the codes pulled were p0010, p0201, p0202, p0203, p0204. the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. the issue happened again on 5/30/11 as i was driving on the highway. the same codes as the first incident was found with an additional code of p1a03. again the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. i feel this is a safety issue because when you are driving along on the highway the cars around you do not expect you to dramatically slow down. if you manage to safely make it to the side of the road without being in an accident or causing an accident you still face another safety issue being stuck on the side of the road with traffic going by at 65 mph.

While driving at various speeds, the vehicle's engine would shutdown and all power assist features would be disengaged. the check engine, check traction control, check oil pressure, check temperature, and low fuel warning messages would illuminate. the vehicle suffered from these symptoms approximately 13 times over the course of 1000 miles ultimately resulting in several evasive maneuvers to avoid collisions caused by the lack of engine power. the vehicle spent 27 days in the shop and ultimately the main ecm was replaced. the symptoms have since ceased, but i am concerned that they may start again since the system failures seemed to increase with 100+ degree ambient air temperatures.

After driving about 1.5 miles from home, my wife came to a set of lights and stepped on the brake to stop. the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and several dash lights came on including the brakes & anti-swerve. the vehicle slowed to a stop as she entered the intersection. fortunately 2 things were in her favor, there was no one ahead of her and there was no cross traffic at the light. either could have resulted in an accident. she drove the vehicle back home since she considered that the brakes had failed and she may not be able to stop the vehicle. she called me. i told her to call the dealership. she left the vehicle running thinking that perhaps as it warmed up it would work and tested it several times over an hour's time in the driveway. she pulled out the car's manual to see if there was anything listed regarding the brake failure. she read in another part of the manual about resetting the car's computer by shutting off the engine. when she restarted the vehicle, the dash lights went out and brakes returned to normal. the dealer said they never heard of this problem and said the earliest they could see the vehicle was 5 days later. we dropped the vehicle off the night before with a description of what was experienced. the dealer said they could not verify the concern and ford does not provide any guidance regarding the issue. i was able to find quite of few instances by simply doing a google search including a video by 'consumer reports' who experienced the exact same problem. ford assured them it was a 'software' issue and claimed that all 2010 fusion hybrid owners would be notified to have the software updated. my car was a newer model 2010 and apparently not under this notification since we did not receive anything from ford. the 'ford customer care' suggested taking the vehicle to another dealer for service who said, there is nothing we can do.

I purchased my vehicle on may 15, 2010. the vehicle began to stall almost 1 month later at 2100 miles. i was coming to a stop at a red light when i noticed that my vehicle had lost all power when i began to apply the brake. i took the vehicle into the dealer and they told me that they were not able to replicate the problem and no codes were showing up when diagnosed. after the first time the vehicle stalled on me i started to notice an acceleration problem prior to the vehicle stalling again. it feels like the vehicle is not shifting gears correctly when i'm pressing the gas for acceleration. the vehicle has trouble accelerating properly and i fear that i may get rear ended. when the vehicle stalls it does not give me any warning signs and just looses power. i have to turn off the ignition and turn it back on. the vehicle starts up right away like if nothing happened. meanwhile i loose power in the middle of the freeway or on the street, fearing that i will get rear ended. the vehicle has stalled on me numerous times and each time i take it into the dealer they are not able to replicate the problem. the dealer placed a flight recorder to monitor the vehicle and they still weren't able to capture anything when the vehicle stalled, so they say. i have contact ford corporation and have notified them of the problem but they are not working to fix the problem. they keep changing me from dealer to dealer and they have not sent out a ford technician as promised to look at the vehicle. this is a huge safety concern that ford is not addressing. i have put in numerous calls to ford corporation and they have not fixed the problem to this day.

Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that the vehicle shut off when she drove over a pothole in the road prefaced by a chiming sound. the contact was driving approximately 20 mph when the failure occurred. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the vehicle needed an upload for the computer system; however, the upload did not remedy the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer a second time but the vehicle stalled again when the contact was driving it home. the contact took the vehicle to the dealership where it remained for two weeks before it was returned. the contact was unaware of how the vehicle was repaired but stated that the failure had not occurred since it was repaired the third time. the failure mileage was approximately 10,000. the current mileage was approximately 11,300.

My 2010 ford fusion sel 6cyl. has stalled twice once during a rolling stop and the second time fully stopped. both times the car just lost all power and the electronics inside the car quit working when restarted. after turning the car off a second time and restrting again the electronics started working again. nothing has been done to fix it yet as the dealer has not heard of the complaint and will charge me a service call if they can not find the problem even though the car has only 7500 miles on it.

Ford fusion 2010 s - when the brake was depressed the car accelerated until i depressed a second time much harder. the consumer first began to notice the vehicle would intermittently not start in august. he took the vehicle to the dealer, but they were unable to duplicate the problem. the consumer insisted there was a problem and eventually, they found a technical service bulletin that addressed the issue. the problem was attributed to radio frequency intermittently corrupting the crankshaft position sensor and a new ground strip was installed. the problem seemed to be rectified. the weather stripping surrounding the rear window was loose, there was loose metal around the passenger rear wheel. *jb

While under normal driving conditions and habits, we experienced a complete instrument cluster failure in our 2010 ford fusion hybrid this past saturday, feb 20. 2010. during the same incident we experienced a symptom of diminished power while accelerating as well as overly sensitive and /or mushy brakes. there have been other reported instances where the brake system has glitched as well during regenerative braking causing an abrupt application of hydraulic system over riding the regenerative system, brake system continues to have issues even after recall repair reprogramwas performed. we have had several instrument cluster glitches while driving the vehicle since purchase date of october 26, 2009. first incident was reported october 27, 2009. several. instrument cluster resets while driving since purchase date. first incident reported same date as previous.. on february 22, 2010 car stalled for no reason while driving 45mph in traffic to dealership to have instrument cluster and other issues addressed. restarted when car came ro a complete stop and placed in park. car is at dealer now and no codes were reported in systems. ford engineers state that with no codes reported there can't be any problems. *tr

Our 2010 ford fusion is starting to split to split at the seams literally. on the passenger front door on the armrest where the window switch is, the panel is starting to separate & come apart. the top of the panel bulges upwards as if something in the door is pushing it up. my concern is especially here in nj with the recent snow & rain, moisture & dust could come in through the crack & either short out or disable the electrical wiring in the door (speakers, window, etc). the failure stared at 2000 miles & the split gets bigger each day & current mileage is 5300 miles. i'm sorry but i've bought ford for the last 15 years & this is probably the worst quality i've seen in ford cars. *tr
