I purchased my car on 1/24/10. beginning in april/may of 2011 my car began to stall without warning. at first it would happen at stoplights. i began to bring it to the dealer who was unable to capture an error code or replicate the issue. they sent me away. it then escalated to stalling uphill going 35 mph on a curvy one lane road. again, brought it back to the dealer with the same result, no error code couldn't replicate, so no fix. at this time i began to investigate online only to find numerous forums of other 2010 ford fusion (sport awd) owners experiencing the same spontaneous stalling issues. again, ford said they didn't know how to fix because no error and couldn't replicate. over the past 3 years we have brought the vehicle in 5 times for the same issue (currently at dealer now for three weeks). this stalling issue has happened at stoplights, going 35 mph uphill and 75 mph on the freeway. there is no warning except the car will jerk then the engine shuts off. we have been lucky so far that we've been able to pull off the road while avoiding an accident, but it's been close sometimes. in december 2012 i contacted ford directly to request a repurchase or replacement. they have denied my claim because it was not repaired or diagnosed enough during a set period of time. i have expressed repeatedly to them my concern not only for the safety of my family but of other motorists on the road and all those other owners experiencing the exact same issue. i am beyond frustrated with ford's lack of concern and accountability for this issue. i am afraid to drive my car, it's unpredictable and unsafe. this is serious and someone, someday will get into an accident whether minor or major. the issue is it can be avoided if ford would only step up, own the issue and place their customers safety first over profit and protecting their reputation. please help! *tr

I left my house to pick up my child from school and about 30 seconds into my trip my car suddenly shut off, mid-driving. i was in the middle of making a turn going approximately 20-25 mph and it just died. the battery light, oil drip container and the bright orange wrench came on all at the same time. i had no power to move the car. my a/c went warm and my gas pedal no longer worked. i managed to coast to a stop on the side of the road and then i had to call for someone to come get me so i could be at my sons school on time. have to turn the key back all the way and wait a minute before being able to restart the vehicle. there are way too many complaints and dangers with driving a vehicle that randomly decides to shut itself off when your driving for this to be allowed to go on. i am worried to death that i might get run over/hit from behind the next time this happens and i sincerely hope that my children aren't injured as a result. *tr

On 8/19/12, we were traveling on i-96 in the left lane at 70 mph when the car suddenly lost power and i could barely drive to the right shoulder. the motor sputtered and seemingly try to die. the wrench light came on. i turned off the motor, called for help, when help arrived, the technician asked me to start the car. it started. my wife and i were able to get home. on 8/20/12, i took it to a ford dealer to get the matter checked as well as get an oil change. the dealer scoped the computer and could find nothing wrong. this evening, 8/20/12, i was driving at 35 miles an hour when there was a lurch and i lost power. i could not accelerate so i turned off the ignition, waited a few seconds, and turned on the motor. i was able to drive home. i've checked a website that indicates there have been quite a few other problems along the same lines as i experienced. i will take the car back to the dealer for a check again but based upon what i read about other complaints, i doubt if the dealer will figure out the issue. this is a very dangerous situation particularly while driving on a freeway at 70 mph and losing total power. had we not been driving on a sunday when traffic was relatively light, we would undoubtedly have been in a serious accident. *tr

Returning to tn from vacation in fl on 7/15/12. traveling before birmingham, al - heard a loud boom sound (like a tire blow out), then heard a roar. as we signaled to move from the fast lane to the emergency lane - flames were over the back window of the car. by the time that we reached the emergency lane, the entire car was engulfed in flames both inside and outside. the car was entirely engulfed in flames within 10 to 20 seconds. i had purchased the car from moss motor company in south pittsburgh, tn on 6/4/12. the car had issues within two weeks that required the car to be towed back to the dealer for powertrain issue. dealer did not share the ticket with me on repairs that were completed two weeks before the car exploded. but they kept the car for over one week to fix the issue that caused it to stop pulling while driving. this was the first long trip that i had taken in the car. my two passengers experienced mild burns but we lost all personal items in the car due to the speed that the car burned. alabama highway patrol worked the explosion and fire department had to work the fire. state farm assured me that they would investigate the cause of the fire but has just informed me that they did not do a thorough investigation. i have witness names and contact information as well as photographs that they took as the car burned if needed. *tr

While driving on the highway at 70 mph my car cuts off. i merge to the side of the road and after a few minutes it restarts. i put it in drive and continue driving. the next morning it does the same thing. when it looses power the wrench light, check engine light, and traction control lights come on and it says service advancetrac in the service bar on the dash panel. i have taken it to ford several times and there are no codes stored for them to go by. they made me a new key and stated they thought it was my key going bad. i am sure that it is something more as it has done it again even with the new key. there is definitely something going on with the throttle bodies on these cars. it is very scary and unsafe when the car loses power in rush hour traffic. i have 3 children that i transport in this car everyday. i honestly hope ford investigates this and fixes the problem. i also had the problem with the lug nuts and wheel studs snapping off. there is a recall for that but i was told my car did not fall under that recall even though it was having the same issues? this is the first ford i have ever owned and i will never buy another one. not just the quality of the vehicle, but the tech's at the shops don't know anything, and ford does not stand behind their products!! *tr

I will never buy a ford vehicle again. my 2010 fusion is currently in the shop. it has been hesitating like there was water in the gas. we ruled that out. we checked transmission fluid, it was a little low so we added some. a little better but did not fix it. we were traveling on a major interstate when we had to coast to the shoulder when it would not pull anymore. check engine light came on. after sitting idle it finally leveled out and light went off but still was hesitating. the light continued to go off and on the remainder of the drive. when we reached our destination we located a ford dealership. they kept our car for a couple of hours and called us and said it reported a misfire code but that was all and that we needed to change the spark plugs. so we picked our car up and drove it back home to our regular dealership. our dealership kept it for 1 day and said the same thing, misfire code and to change the spark plugs and swap the coils around. so we did. didn't fix it. brought it back to our dealership where they kept it for exactly 2 weeks with no results. said they could not get it to do anything for them and if it started back to bring it back. 2 hours later we were back at the dealership. that was 3 days ago and still no explanation. they are stumped!!! so where does that leave me? with a $400.00 note on a car that is in the shop. ford needs to accept some responsibility. it's no coincidence everyone is having pretty much the same issues. *tr

Tl-the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving 60 mph when the vehicle began to decelerate independently. the contact shut off the vehicle, and the vehicle regained normal operation once restarted. the contact stated that the failure was recurring and would be experienced several times throughout any given day. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the mass air flow sensor needed to be replaced. the repair was performed but did not permanently correct the failure. the manufacturer was notified who advised the contact that there were no recalls and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 47,000. kmj

2010 ford fusion: while driving at 65mph on a highway with cruise control set the car lost power and stalled. tachometer dropped to 1000 rpms and fluctuated between 500 - 1000 rpms. wrench light (throttle / transmission) illuminated and the car coasted to a crawl at less than 5mph. the car's throttle was unresponsive and i was unable to accelerate. i became a serious rear-end hazard in a construction zone and had to pull off to the side of the road. i put the car in park, restarted it and the car ran fine. i am just barely under warranty (and just bought the car 1 week ago) so i brought it to a ford dealer - they checked the car and found nothing wrong with their computer scan and stated that there was no error code - so there was nothing that they could do. the day after i picked the car up from the dealer the car did the same thing, twice. this time it did it after a cold start in the morning and again when i left work in the afternoon - again the wrench light came on and shut off once i restarted the car. bringing the car in tomorrow again...we'll see what happens. what a safety risk - my wife refuses to drive the car!

2010 ford fushion car stauled and engine shut off in heavy traffic 2 mths ago. had to pull over. cranked it was fine. days later, engine begins to crank every few days, slow at first but will start. been going on since. 3 wks today, car powers down while driving 65 mph this morning on main int. hwy.the wrench light came on dashboard. car would not accelarate when i pressed the gas peddle. had to coast to er lane. car was running, but could not accellarate at all. when stopped, turned car off. recranked engine. wrench light went off, and drove to work fine. took to dealer today. while explaining the issue, an employee overheard and said do you drive a fushion? i said yes, he said its your throttle body. he says this without even looking at the car! confirmed it was throttle body part after inspection. part was not in stock. told i could drive car home. they would call when part comes in. dealer called this evening and said my manf. warranty was past time, and additional warranty tech would not cover throttle body part. part expense $261 plus taxes and 30 minutes labor time to install. i'm distubred to know ford is aware and others are having this problem and i am extremely scared to drive this car knowing it stalled at 65 miles an hour!!! someone needs to pull these cars off the road and make the repairs to these vehicles. i have never owned an american made car. this is my first one. some first impression. i will be trading this car as soon as i can. i am just so disappointed in ford claiming the built ford tough motto. this isnt tough, its dangerous! i've never owned a car where being less than 2yrs old, a part already has to be replaced? seriously?? ford should pay attention to their complaints. how many complaints does it take to get a recall??????????? mine makes number 320........ a recall should be after 2 people are claiming the same thing.

I was driving down the highway at 70 mph when my car shut off i was almost hit by another car then a semi truck because i didn't know what had happened. my car had no throttle response. after having my car looked at it, it was diagnosed to have a bad throttle body. so i did some research and its a common thong with 2010 ford fusions, but for some reason ford won't either find a way to figure out why they seem to have throttle bodies that are malfunctioning and putting their drivers lives in danger. they need to recall this before it causes someone to lose their life. for people who don't know it cost about $500 to get it fixed if your vehicle isn't under warranty.

The transmission of the 2010 ford fusion slips and resulted in my inability to accelerate the vehicle in heavy traffic while traveling over the george washington bridge in new york city. the dealer, van bortel in rochester, ny, has had the vehicle for a transmission re-build and two additional times for a seal that leaked transmission fluid. i had another incident where i brought the vehicle to another dealer and they replaced additional components pursuant to a program fix from ford (the van bortel should have performed, but did not). this is dangerous as i was lucky not to have been rear-ended by the 18 wheeler behind me at the time my transmission failed on the bridge!

I was going down the highway at 55 mph car started to run rough then lost all power. i was able to get over to the side of the road. at place on the highway where car stop running there was no breakdown lane. turned engine off waited a minute attempted to restart car it was still running rough and would not acclerate also wrench light came on. shut car off waited a couple of more minutes car started and acclerated but now the check engine light came on. this is not the first time the car lost power but when i call service they said it was nothing just a computer clitch. the first time the car lost power i was able to turn it off and back on with no problems

I was pulling out of my driveway and accelerating, when the car jerked and would not go over 1 mph. the car would not accelerate. it would go in reverse fine. the wrench light illuminated on the dash board. i turned the car off and started it back up a few minutes later and it was running ok. the light went off on the dash. i took it to the dealership and they could not get any codes or duplicate the problem. they suggested changing the throttle body, because they had seen this before on other fusions.

The vehicle began to jerk when driving or between automatic shifting. specifically when it shifts into third, it jerks extremely hard. the engine and maintenance light will come on as the vehicle stalls. there is no response from the accelerator and i have to put it in park, stop the car and restart it in order for it to move again. i was almost rear ended due to the vehicle dying in the middle of the street.

While exiting from the expressway on the exit ramp the car suddenly stalled. this was in heavy traffic. i had to try to get the car stopped, put it in park and turn the ignition off and then on again to get it restarted. will take it to be evaluated tomorrow morning.

The throttle body assembly failed after 70,000 miles. the vehicle would stall at speed, have to be pulled over, stopped, engine turned off and completely restarted. the vehicle had multiple incidences of this nature, and i have been told the problem is a common problem with this year/make/model, that being the throttle body assembly which required replacement.

I was in a parking lot turning into a marked parking space, with my foot off of the accelerator, when the accelerator moved forward abruptly. the engine roared as the car accelerated forward, the car jumped the curb and moved forward striking a column supporting the front corner of an office building. the column fell forward coming to rest on my car, inches above my head. i applied the brakes from the moment i first realized what was taking place, but the brakes had no effect. the cost of repairs to my car was over $3000.00, plus the cost to repair the building. i took the car to the dealership where i had purchased it new. the dealer's employees stated that the computer disclosed no problem. they contacted ford engineers who ordered the dealer not to attempt any repairs. ford claimed no knowledge of such a problem ever occurring.

I have a 2010 ford fusion s, i was driving home for christmas break when my car shut off and had no throttle response. i didn't drive the vehicle for like five days and the car was fine but it started back up in janurary and again in the beginning of march. it has a code of p211 which is the throttle body issue. i have done some research on the problem and multiple ford fusion's are having the same issues as i am. for some reason ford is trying to avoid hearing the issue on the fact that they have faulty throttle bodies. it is a saftey issue when you are traveling down the highway or interstate at 60-70 mph and all of sudden your car no longer has a throttle response. you have to pull off the road shut your car off and restart it. this doesn't fix the problem it just does it all over again within the next mile or two. ford should realize the issue and make a recall for the throttle body. there are people throughout the united states that are paying between $400-$600 out of their pocket if their car is no longer under warranty to fix a common problem that people are having with ford fusions.

First happened setting at a red light, light changed i took off and car stalled in intersection and lucky i was moving fast enough to get out of the way and off the road. second time i was going 60mph down road and car stalled losing power and the ability to brake and steer properly. car stalls and when restarted its rpms are very random, up and down , car shakes etc. then stalls again. took to ford and they cant find anything. this is a very unsafe problem that is occurring, and i have found dozens of people with the same problem on online forums...

This has happened a number of times since it started a few months ago, but soon after starting and driving down the road, the fusion suddenly loses power, the wrench light comes on the dash, and the idle is very rough. there is no acceleration possible. we have to coast to a stop, turn off the engine, then restart the car. this seems to reset the problem and things get back to normal. we've had the dealer look at it twice now. they suspect a throttle body problem. fortunately for us, we are still under warranty, but it is very disconcerting and a bit dangerous for this to happen. one time i was driving on the highway around 60 mph and it happened. i had to coast to the emergency lane while multiple cars passed me and swerved around me. this problem occurred yesterday three times in one 30 minute period. the dealer said that ford has given them no help in solving the problem. we almost bought a toyota camry instead of the fusion. i guess we should have done that.

Bought my fusion in april 2011. began having problems immediately. usually happens when the engine is cold, upon accelerating the car would lurch terribly and hesitate. first the dealer could find nothing wrong. then they decided it was the transmission. put new transmission in. kept happening. finally, it happened when the service manager drove it. said ford would put new computer in the car. six weeks later since we heard nothing back, took the car to the sales rep and he said don't come get it until we fix it. today my husband is back at the dealer to get me another car. they act like i am imagining all this. i am ready for an arbitrator!

While driving down a major highway at 69 mph with the cruise control on, the car just lost power. i first noticed the headlights went out, then saw the anti theft light illuminate. i tried depressing the gas pedal, but got nothing. thankfully, i was able to coast out of the passing lane, into the right lane, and eventually to the side of the road without any tragedy. once along the roadside, i put the car in park and turned the key to shut off mode. i then turned it back on, car started up fine. i took it to my regular mechanic, his code reader found nothing. took it to the dealership i bought it from, they found nothing. it is now at a ford dealership, but my guess is they will find nothing. i am on the road at least 4 out of 5 days a week on major highways. i cannot afford for this to happen again. i may not be so lucky next time.

When driving the vehicle the throttle body fails putting the car into limp mode. acceleration is impossible and the car will stall while attempting to safely pull off the road. after a single search online for ford fusion throttle body numerous instances of similar failures appear beginning in approximately 2005. the vehicle will lose all ability to accelerate but maintain electrical power until the vehicle stalls. this occurred to me while traveling on the highway at 75 mph and is extremely unsafe. the problem is so widespread that the local ford dealers maintain a stock of throttle body units to replace. the risk of an accident very high because of the possibility of stalling out and losing control of the vehicle.

Transmission keeps on lurching forward and dealership cannot do anything about it now. it's a safety issue for me as i almost got into an accident on the street due to huge jump. transmission keeps on acting up and dealer keeps saying everything is fine and cannot duplicate the other since the time they rebuilt the transmission on my vehicle.

I was pulling out from a red light when the car lost power and started to idle hard. i was able to pull to the turn lane to avoid being hit. when all power was lost and the car died the wrench light and battery light came on. the car did not seem to be getting any gas. after turning the car off and sitting a few minutes the car started back and i was able to pull to a parking lot. fortunately i was not on the interstate as i had been previously before this. my husband followed me to the dealership and after inspecting the car i was told it was the throttle body. the cost of the repair was $465.00 which i just considered one of those things that happens until i discovered there have been many similar complaints. four days later the car did the same thing on the highway. my husband was able to get off to the side of the road. the dealership checked it the next day and stated all the wiring. i will say the service department told us they were on the phone with ford that day and found no additional problems, but did state that if this problem happened again the computer system would be replaced. of course my biggest concern is if and when might this happen again, hopefully not on the interstate. i have enjoyed my fusion but ford should take some responsiblilty for this before a deadly situtaion happens.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact was driving 40 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the dealer was unable to diagnose the problem. the contact stated that the stalling recurred twice afterward. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and after a second diagnostic test the dealer advised the contact that a cylinder was misfiring. the dealer replaced the coil wire to the cylinder but the failure recurred after repairs. the dealer was unable to locate any further problems with the vehicle. there were no further repairs. the failure mileage was 31,586.

I own a v6 2010 ford fusion and on two separate occassions, while driving on the highway at approximate speeds of 65 mph the engine has stalled without warming. at the time the engine stalls, a service light will come on and the car completely shuts down. in both instances, the car could be restarted, and the service light dissapeared upon restart. we have taken it to the dealership after both incidents, and they are unable to identify a fix as the service code is not being stored in events of engine failure (and the light is not staying on after restart). this is an extremely dangerous situation as it has happened without warning, while travelling on major highways at high speeds. i have seen entries from other owners on both the nhsta site and other blogs siting the same problem, yet ford is unwilling to accept that this is a pervasive problem and is not working to find a solution. we have escalated from the dealership up to the corporate ford customer service department with no success.

I was stopped at a traffic light, it turned green and stepped on the gas pedal and the car immediatley started to rough idle, the wrench indicator lit up and would not move forward. there was minimal response to throttle input. i was able to pull off the road out of traffic to a safe spot. i left the car running to see what was going on. the tachometer was fluctuating mainly downward as it idled rough. after about two minutes i turned off the motor. i made a few phone calls and while calling roadside assit decided to try and start the car. it started and i went straight to the dealership. as fate would have it, the dealership could not duplicate the concern and was not able to pinpoint the cause. they were kind enough to suggest replacing the throttle body and motor assembly. it cost me $512.38. needlessto say i am not at all happy with this issue. this issue could have occured in a more dynamic setting, heavy traffic, lane change or merging, etc, potentially causing threat to my life and that of others. this issue needs to be addressed by the manufacturer in my opinion.

When i was driving my 2010 ford fusion the wrench light came on and the car lost all power and stalled out. luckily i wasn't in front of a truck or on the freeway. very scary my car only has 15391 miles on it. this car was also leaking oil. i am not happy with this car. when i took it to the dealer this problem didn't show up at first so the service person kept the car longer and finally it did the same thing and lost all power so they replaced the throttle body and replaced the the gasket that was leaking oil. also a few months earlier one of the coils went bad and had to be replaced.

Vehicle slips/hesitates when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. transmission clutches were found 'burnt' and needed to be replaced. problem persists and now i am told this is 'normal' operation. in addition, my wheels are now vibrating/wobbling. i will need additional service.

There was a recall on the 2010 ford fusion transmissions. i took the car in on 12/31/10 to automax ford, killeen, tx. they told me that nothing was wrong with it and it is fine. on 3 august 2011 my car felt like it did a downshift while going down the highway. at this point my accelerator fails to work. the car is not in any gear and even when i give the car gas the engine will not rev. i then have to come to a complete stop and put the car in park. while in park the car idles really heavy like and stuttters to keep going so i have to turn the car off. when i turn the car back on it will turn over about 6 or 7 times before it starts. i have to do this process every time the car does this which has been about 6 times in the past two days. the incident happens on the highway and in regular city driving. i believe automax ford has failed to do the inspection right and now the recall letter is expired as of april 2011. i was also deployed overseas during that time period of expiration.

The area of the heater / dashboard makes a gurgle or sloshing noise at startup and upon acceleration. there is clearly air in the heating/cooling system that could be damaging internal parts. ford does not currently have a repair for this issue.

Purchased a new 2010 ford fusion se i-4 in october, 2009. i drove the vehicle for 4 months and noticed a water-sloshing/waterfall sound (similar to a dishwasher) coming from the dashboard area upon start-up and low acceleration in cold weather. took the vehicle to the same ford dealership it was purchased from to preform service. after 5 visits and nearly 1 year later, the issue is still remaining. ford has issued 2 technical service bulletins on the issue, none of which have been able to solve the issue. ford claims to not know what is causing the sound, but maintains that it is not a safety or drive-ability issue. ford claims the issue is air bubbles trapped in the heater core, but during a service visit, no air was removed from the heater core system and the problem persisted. this is unacceptable for a brand new vehicle.

I own a 2010 ford fusion hybrid. i was pulling my car into my garage to park it. i had slowed my car down very slowly before i pulled into my driveway. the car was idling into the driveway. about 5 feet from the wall and 2 feet from where i usually stop, the accelerator slowly pulled down toward the the floor. it took me one or two seconds to realize what was happening. during that time, my car moved head on toward the garage wall. i pressed on the brake and the car stopped. the car had already slammed straight into the wall of my garage. my toddler was in the backseat of the car and started crying. i was shocked by what had happened. i loved that car and always believed that it was the perfect car. now, i have damage to the car and to my house. most importantly, the car spontaneously accelerated and a person could have been caught between my car and that garage. i was going to go to a popular grocery store in my neighborhood that day. but, i decided not to do so because my toddler was looking sleepy. if i had gone to the store, i could have run a shopper over with my out-of-control car. i called the dealership who sold me the car immediately. they did not call me back.

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving the engine cuts off and there are no lights, etc. everything shuts off. so far the failure has happened five times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on april 15, 2010 after the engine cut off at a red light. the technician stated the cap on the air filter was loose and thats what the diagnostic test showed. the failure happened again and the owner got the vehicle off the highway. the vehicle is currently at the dealer and they stated they could not duplicate the problem and can't do anything until the failure is duplicated. ford motor company was contacted and they stated they contacted the dealer and told the owner what she had told them was not correct. the failure mileage was approximately 900. the current mileage is approximately 14,000. rd
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - COOLING SYSTEM

I have a 2010 ford fusion i bought it brand ew in july 2010, already i have had to replace the radiator it was not covered under the manufac warranty. there is slots in the grill of the car pretty big they told me a rock must of went thru there when i was driving and made the hole in the radiator my insurance had to pay and i paid my 300 deductible . for a couple weeks prior to that i heard a gurgling sound under the dash board. good thing i went to the dealer the day i did because the heat was blowing cold air. my radiator was bone dry and the noise under the dash was real loud at this point . well anyway i went to pick the car up and they said it was fixed but i heard the gurggling sound still under the dash {near the glove comp} i dont know what they did{the guy tried to tell me it was normal at first until he geard the noise himself} well anyway he brought it back into the service dept quirk chevrolet in quincy mass and they fixed the problem. but what i am getting at is i think there is a huge defect in the slats in the grill that it would allow anything in to hurt the radiator i have owned many cars in my life and this has never happened to me before. also the door handle is falling off already on the drivers] inside] door.

We have a 2010 ford fusion s. we bought it in may and it have a starting up problem. when you try to start it (after holding the key in the on position for like 3 seconds...as it should be) , it doesn't start and then after letting the key go, the car keeps trying to start himself up. this makes a weird noise offcourse....and then you have to quickly turn down the key to the off position for it to stop trying . this morning was the fifth time already this happend. the last time i had to try 3 times before finally getting the car to start up. this car will be going to the service/repair dep. soon at the dealer. i can't believe these problems occurs already , and the car is only 5 months old !
