This is the second time my 2010 ford fusion stalled while driving on the freeway. the car will just start limping and will not accelerate. once i manuever the car safely onto the side of the freeway and turn the car off i am normally sucessful in restarting the car and resuming my commute. the check engine light will stay on, and once you refuel the vehicle all symptoms and warning lights are no longer present. this problem is an obvious safety hazard and needs to be addressed by ford's engineers

Read in paper that you were looking at ford throttle body. i was in fast lane on i-66 on a friday afternoon. suddenly car stopped. i was lucky there was room on left apron to pull off. car restarted when i tried--went 1000 feet and stopped again; now in right lane and pulled off. knew there was an off ramp 1/4 mile ahead and limped on apron with cars passing. the entire situation was very dangerous in my estimation. when restarting, it was hard to tell if auto was running or not. when restarting auto backfired etc. prior to this incident had reported to ford dealer that transmission sometime clunked when i put auto in reverse in the morning. they found no problem. have not had this problem since i paid to have the throttle body replaced.

My wife was turning left into a parking space in a parking lot at 2mph or less when the vehicle suddenly accelerated at high rpms. our vehicle slammed into the vehicle to the right of the space my wife would have entered. heavy damage was caused to our veh. and to the parked veh. my wife was unsure if she had caused the acdt or if it was a mechanical defect. because of the very heavy and rapid acceleration, i didn't think it in any way was driver error. after it was repaired, our 2010 fusion was checked out by a ford dealer and nothing was found amiss. a year later in nov. of 2012, i was driving the car at approximately 50mph when the engine suddenly reved up about 150 to 200rpms. this didn't cause any great acceleration but, considering my wife's experience, i immediately shifted to neutral. just as i got into neutral, the engine reved up to 2500 to 3000rpms. had the car been in drive, a collision could have happened or i could have lost control. ford was contacted, car inspected, again nothing wrong. a service writer tried to tell us that the rubber floor mat was on the accelerator pedal. the mat doesn't gain weight to suddenly depress the pedal all by itself! ford's great lakes regional manager was not very forthcoming-she wasn't apparently aware that there were youtube videos of 2010 fusion owners filming their dashboards as their cars did the same as i have described above. the car is being driven regularly but both of us have a hand on the gear shift alot of the time. considering our experiences and the youtube postings, i think ford is trying to avoid an expensive recall. didn't toyota use the floor mat excuse for years?

I have had this problem at various intervals since february of 2012 . my fusion would stall an would not accelerate when i left from a stop sign or a traffic light , the vehicle would not go above ten miles per hour an the wrench light would come on on my instrument panel. i would have to get off the road an cut the car off then restart it. the car would act like it had flooded an lurch an jerk , when before i would have it come to a complete stop. i took it to the dealer i purchased the car from an i told them about my incidents of the same type each time. they could not locate the problem until on june 30,2012 where the same problem happened to me an i drove the vehicle directly to the dealership. they were able to dianose the problem as a faulty throttle body. they told me i must have been using some dirty fuel since they said the throttle body looked black inside of fuel. i had used exclusively 93 octane fuel into my vehicle. i had purchased a extended warranty when i purchased my vehicle from preston ford in which they told me when i first took the vehicle there with the same recurring problem, they said it was covered under the warranty. it was then they told me the warranty did not cover that part. i had to pay for the faulty part with a total bill of $593.00, along with other items i had for this service visit. i have not had a problem since this work was done on my vehicle. they did not tell that ford had issued a technical service bulletin on this problem that was known by the dealership, but i had to pay for this to tell me that i had one of the vehicles that were within this bulletin.

The first instance i was driving as normal in my vehicle and with out warning going 50 mph my car shut off with no power or ability to do anything besides to try and coast off the road and out of harm. a wrench light flashes when it occurs. the second time i was making a turn at approx 20 mph in a four way light intersection and lost power over the car again with a wrench light appearing again. the only way to gain power again is to put the car in park turn it off and wait a bit to restart the vehicle. when you restart the car the wrench light is gone and the car acts like there was never a problem and runs smoothly. after a 2 day diagnosis by ford they state that the throttle body is the cause of the problem. in total i have had this happen 5 times with out any warning going various speeds and luckly avoiding multiple accidents. like mentioned above after starting the car the wrench light disappears performing as usual.

First incident: vehicle was traveling about 40 mph and would not pull up a shallow grade hill about 1 mile from the house. car was started cold. wife pulled off road and engine died. wrench symbol came on dash. i arrived about 15 minutes later and started car to move it further off the road. it ran so i took it back home, no apparent issue. called dealer and got it in the next day. dealer is about 2.5miles from my home. dealer could find nothing wrong and we drove it home. did not drive it for about a week. second incident: wife at a busy controlled intersection. car would not accelerate when light turned green. called me after getting car started and moved to a safe location about 1/2 mile from intersection. wrench and battery lights came on dash. about 2 hours later we took the car to the dealer with no apparent problem. dealer informed me the computer coded a throttle body issue. throttle body changed. we have not driven the car over 10 miles since then. wife no longer trust car.

While driving on a major highway in the fast lane, the fuel seemed to suddenly cut off. there was no response to the gas pedal. the engine was running at idle and the car abruptly slowed down forcing me to pull over. this was quite frightening due to the fact that i was in the fast lane and needed to get over to the right shoulder in a hurry. after turning on the flashers and turning off the engine, my wife reminded me of this incident ocurring twice before to her recently but on local roads. we had brought the vehicle to ford and they didn't find anything wrong. after a minute or two i started the engine and proceeded to move the car and realized that the engine was now responding to the gas pedal. i drove home and brought the car directly to the ford dealer.they ended up replacing the throttle body which costs us $497.79. they said that it was not covered by ford's emmision warranty (5 yr/ 50,000 mi). i believe that this is a safety issue that can easily lead to injuries and possible fatalities unless it is immediately addressed. this should be a recall!

As i was leaving work and pulling out of the parking lot, the engine sputtered, choked, wheezed and eventually would not go over 10-15 mph. check engine light came on and vehicle died. had the vehicle towed the next day to the local ford dealership and was informed that i had a defective throttle body that had caused the problem and also had created a lot of debris in the fuel intake system. cleaning of the fuel intake system and replacement of the throttle body was around $700. i didn't think anything of it at the time until i saw on the news that nhtsa had opened an inquiry into this possible defect on the fusions, so i wanted to add that i had a similar problem as was being investigated.

Driving at 40 mph engine went into limp mode. the engine remains running, but no power. pulled over and shut engine off. restarted and ran fine except the problem recurred several times over the next few days at all different speeds. losing power and/or speed at highway speeds or in traffic could prove to be very dangerous. took the vehicle to a ford dealer. they informed me that the throttle valve was sticking and the throttle body needed to be replaced. i was also told that this occured because of the gasoline additives that the federal government mandates, but now i am hearing that it is probably from a defective circuit board. very expensive repair for a faily new vehicle. problem has not happened since the repair was done.

The wrench light came on and stayed on steady and the car suddenly lost all engine power. headlights stayed still on and hazard lights worked. i tried starting the car but pressing the gas pedal produced no movement of the car nor any increase in engine sound. after trying to start it several times, it seemed like it started but not a normal start. the engine appeared to be very rough but again, no fast engine sound. it kind of limped to the side of the road which was on a very slight incline. no pressing of the gas pedal produced any significant movement of the car. the car was violently shaking as it limped to the side of the road at maybe 2 miles per hour. once i got it to the side of the road out of traffic, i did turn it off. i gave it about 30 seconds and it started normally. no more wrench light. it seemed to work fine after that. i drove home

I was slowing down as the traffic light turned red. the engine stalled and cut out. the wrench warning light came on. it took several tries to get the car started. over the next several days, the car stalled while we were driving on a major highway in traffic at 45 to 50 miles an hour. we took the car to a ford dealer who diagnosed the problem as a short circuit in the throttle body and motor assembly. they replaced the parts at a cost of $438.64. we have since learned of other fords of the same age having the same problem.

At approx. 52k while drive approx. 40mph, all fuel power was lost and 'wrench' light came on. had to coast to a stop, car sputtering. put in park and killed the engine. waited a minute, car started with some hesitation. ran diagnostic, nothing. about an hour later, ran some b-12 through fuel; cured. twice again at approx. 56k, same thing (once at 70mph on the interstate and the other at 55mph on a busy highway); ran b-12 both times. on third event, it finally gave a reading - throttle body stuck in open position. brought vehicle to ford dealership, they got the same reading and changed the throttle body to the tune of $350. ford stated there was no technical service manual indication of problem forcing a possible recall. how lucky for me and my kids that we weren't in a high-traffic situation and i could safely maneuver to the shoulder...all three times!

We were driving around 50 mph when the car stopped accelerating and we slowed down to 5 mph.the wrench light and check engine light lit up. luckily, there was nobody on the road behind us or we might have been killed from the sudden change in acceleration. we were told by our dealer that the throttle body needed replacing. they replaced it but the check engine light is still on. it was not covered by warranty (i was told by ford customer service that no warranty covers that part). how convenient that they specifically don't cover a part that is clearly defective. i am not sure if anyone has died from this problem, but i have two teenage sons who drive that car and i don't trust it anymore. after reading all of the complaints on this site, and elsewhere, i demand that an investigation be done into this faulty part before someone is injured or killed. thank you. *tr

While turning left on a green arrow my accelerator became unresponsive, engine did not stop running but would only coast @ about 2 mph, wrench light icon and check engine light came on. the car was jerking during this slow coast to the side of the intersection. i had to put the car in park and completely shut it off.(as i was hitting my hazard lights and praying i didn't get hit by oncoming traffic as the light had changed by this time.) after a rough restart, it appeared to run fine. i took it to the mechanic and had my fuel system cleaned, but after doing research and finding many owners of the ford fusion have had this recurring problem, seemingly with their throttle body, i am very afraid to drive my car as this problem occurs with no warning beforehand and at all different speeds. i did notify ford customer service and was told that they had no customer service complaints about this problem. when i informed them of all the complaints online, they explained that they only acknowledge official ford websites. i pray that ford will issue a recall and fix this problem before somebody dies. *tr

After driving my car a few minutes, the car started to stalled and i could not accelerated. the car just started shaking and finally stop running with the wrench light coming on. i had to turn the engine off completely and tried to started it again, but the wrench light was still on and kept on shaking again. i turned off the engine and waited approximately one minute and it started again. i was lucky to be able to pull over, but i am asking the federal government to investigate ford fusion problems with their throttle body that has multiple troubles reports from ford fusion owners. how can the government allow vehicles that are dangerous to drivers when the vehicles start stalling on the road and especially on the freeway. please demand ford recall their fusion to replace the throttle body stalling problems and and reimbursement the owners for their cost asap.

The 2010 ford fusion will, at random, lose power. accelerator is non responsive and the throttle body/transmission indicator light comes on. it begins to idle rough at approx. 1000rpm and will not respond to the accelerator. i've had the car for just over 1 year and this incident has happened dozens of times. it has happened while at freeway speeds, as well as trying to accelerate from a stop light. i've had numerous close calls and literally fear for my safety while driving the car. the dealership claims to not be able to replicate the problem, however as soon as i've picked it up from them its done it within several miles, only for me to take it back to them and get the same response a week or two later. ford needs to solve this huge problem by issuing a recall and they needed to do it last year. i've literally seen thousands of people in forums with this same exact problem, yet nothing seems to be done about it. it's almost as if the only thing that will open ford's eyes will be a serious tragedy to occur. isn't the point of a recall to prevent that from happening? *tr

I was traveling at 60 mph and the lost all power. i was in the middle of three lanes so it proved difficult to get to the right break down lane. i turned the engine off and after about ten seconds i was able to restart the engine and return to the highway. the same problem occurred again about a half a mile further down the road. once again i turned the engine off and restarted it. the problem did not happen again that day. i had the problem looked at later that afternoon at a local ford dealer who diagnosed it as a faulty throttle body assembly. the car was 3,000 miles out of warranty. ford corporate customer service did not feel they should pay for the repair. this has occurred twice in the past in december and each time i was traveling 60 mph in heavy traffic. this could have resulted in a very serious accident. something needs to done. *tr

My car is a ford fusion bought in march 2010 with only 33,400 miles, still under full warranty. i was driving in city traffic, going about 50 mph, when my accelerator stop working. the wrench and check engine light came on as well. i was able to coast into a parking lot safety, thank goodness. when i started to hit my brakes to stop, the car jerked a bit like it did not want to stop. i stopped, shut off the engine, and it started back up ok. no lights on the dash. i then pulled out into traffic again and not even 5 mins later, it happened again. i coasted into another parking lot, turned the engine off and back on. this time the check engine light stayed on. this proceeded to happen 5 more times before making it to the dealership. the dealership said it was due to a dirty throttle body and that it needed cleaning. i spent $250 to clean it because cleaning is not covered under warranty. two weeks later, i was on the interstate going about 75mph when this all happened again, thank goodness i was not in heavy traffic or i would have been hit from behind. i was able to coast over to the shoulder and restart my car. i drove it straight to the dealership. they called some hotline and were told to replace the throttle body altogether. i have not had any problems since but i wish i had known this earlier. i was terrified of getting into an accident and wish ford would have recalled it before this happened. i pray that no one is killed because of this simple part that should be replaced on all fusions. *tr

First event was while exiting a mall parking lot; stepped on gas pedal, and instead of accelerating the car seemed just about to stall. i got off to the side of the road, and before shutting off the engine noticed the wrench symbol illuminated on the instrument cluster. i waited a few minutes and started the car, noting the wrench was no longer on, put it in gear and drove off. the car ran fine until 12/28/12, when while traveling at approx 70mph on i-90 the engine began to again down shift and lose power. the third occurrence was the morning of 12/29/12; in each above incident i was able to get off the traffic way, park, shut off the car, restart it and drive away. the wrench was illuminated each time. on 01/03/13 my car was serviced by the dealer from where i purchased it, and they said the problem was the throttle body. they had one in stock and replaced it. kudos to them, but, more than a little unnerving. and if it was replaced with the same style unit, how do i know it won't happen again, perhaps at a most inopportune time? at the time of writing this i don't have the vin available, however, fwiw, the build date is june 2010. it is the sel awd with the v-6 engine, 3.0l i believe. *tr

Ford fusion 2012 3.0l v6 sel goes into limp-mode without warning at highway speeds. a slight shudder immediately before tripping the limp-mode where the accelerator becomes disabled. no or minimal power is available to pull out of traffic safely. wrench light comes on, however, the engine is still running. once the car turned off and restarted, the car runs normally until the symptom happens again. no other symptoms are present prior to going into limp-mode. brought the car to a mechanic and they could not find any saved engine codes and could not reproduce the problem. no work was done to correct the problem due to no evidence of it in the computer. has happened three times at highway speeds, without any warning, and creates a hazardous driving experience. *tr

This is the second time in a month that we have had to have the throttle body repaired. the first time, there were error codes that could be used to correct the problem but in less than a month the same problem occurred and this time the entire throttle body has to be replaced. while driving the car lost the ability to accelerate and all propulsion systems did not work. the brakes worked fine but there was no response from the car when i pressed down on the accelerator. this problem needs to be fixed and a recall should be ordered. i have had to pay for this problem 2x and could have been hurt when i was unable to accelerate on the highway and just able to get off the road in time.

I was driving down freeway, my speed around 65 mph. the car starting stalling, there was no response from the gas pedal. i manage to get my car to the shoulder after crossing 4 lanes. i put the car in park and the car eventually stalled out. i restarted the car; it took a few extra seconds than usual. the car drove fine to work. it happen again when i left work at an intersection (pretty scary) 35mph. i pulled to the right lane and put car in park, shut down sputtering engine. i restarted and made it home through rush hour. the next day, friday morning, i pulled out of my garage the stalling started within 20 yards from garage at 5mph. then again when i got off work but this time it occurred multiple times; once as i was entering the freeway on ramp. stalled 3 times on freeway, i manage to get off the freeway on next off ramp after 3 restarts. the car kept stalling over and over no response from gas pedal every few feet i had to restart. there was no way i was going to make it home. i didn't trust my car for safe driving. i managed to get my ford fusion to a ford dealership close by. the ford personnel said they never heard of ford fusions stalling. they punched in my vin in the computer and found no recalls. since it?s a holiday weekend, car won?t be looked at until tuesday. no loaners cars available from ford, i had to rent a car for the time being. i goggled 2010 ford fusion stalling and it popped up right away. i found out that it has been happening for quit awhile to ford fusions. many other ford fusion owners are describing exactly what was happening to my 2010 ford fusion. i?m surprised ford has not come out with any recalls. someone can get hurt or even killed in traffic if this discrepancy isn't addressed by ford. *tr

Throttle body failure: fist occurrence- driving on highway all of a sudden no power. pressing on the gas nothing happens. no check engine light came on. pulled off to the side of highway and put the car in park. the car starting shaking and the wrench light came on. turned car off, then back on and everything was okay. about 6 hours later this happened again as i was passing in the fast lane, then suddenly lost power. again, no check engine light. same scenario as the first. took it to my mechanic and no error codes register. he checked twice. so for a week and a half the car was fine. then happened twice again, no warning, just lost power. this time a check engine light came on after i put the car in park. had it towed to the auto shop and a code did register this time. had it taken for ford and they had to replace the throttle body. this was a very dangerous situation especially when speeding up to pass as the speed limit on that part of the highway is 75 so cars were coming up fast behind me. if i had caused an accident and injuries occurred the fist or second time it happened on the highway, it would have seemed my fault and there would have been no error codes to at least validate what happened. please, please, issue a recall for the throttle body before someone is hurt. not to mention the people just out of warranty that have to pay for this repair. *tr

Engine shut down to very slow idle when starting from intersection. barely able to get vehicle out of road. this has now happened 4 times, each time when moving thru intersection. this is very dangerous when traffic is approaching from all directions. after engine has been shut off a few minutes it runs ok. it happened twice on the first occasion then ran good for 5 days when it shut down again, then ran good for 6 days when shut down once more .i see on the internet that this is happening to lots of other fusion owners. it's just a matter of time until someone is crashed into because of this stalling. the problem seems to be the throtte body needs replacing. i think ford needs to recall these vehicles now before a tragedy occurs. *tr

I was driving about 70mph when i realized, the gas pedal wasn't working. there was no acceleration then the car starting knocking like it was out of gas so i coasted over to the side of the road. i turned the car off, waited about 5 mins and tried to start the car. it started up fine and drove fine the rest of the way home. a few days later, i was turning at a light and it the acceleration stopped again. fortunately, there was a median for turn lanes that i coated in to. otherwise, this could have been an accident. i took the car in to ford, they replaced the throttle body and motor assembly. it took several days because i was told that the part was on back order and that ford had changed manufacturers. this made me wonder why was the part on back order - it seemed like such an odd thing to happen on a fairly new car and why would ford have changed manufacturers. i googled my year and model and discussed this same thing has happened to a lot of people. my son started driving a couple of months ago and thank goodness this happened with me in the car and not an inexperienced driver. with the car suddenly dying and no gas, this presents with a very dangerous situation depending on the road and traffic you may be in. i think ford needs to recall this and make repairs before someone is injured or killed.

While driving at a low speed (10-35 mph) the car quickly gains speed (the rpm does not increase) and then slows down again and it feels like the gears shift down although it doesnt seem possible. the gas pedal stops working and a wrench shows on the dash board, the car slowly decreases in speed. as i come to a stop the car jumps and lurches violently. i turn the car off, wait a few minutes and turn the car back on. the wrench goes away however after this happens 5 more time the engine light comes on. this happens intemittently. i read in the forum people describing issues similar and exactly that same as mine and it seemed as thou it was the throttle body. could not afford the part so i waited and it went away. this stopped for roughly 5 months and then starts again (oct 2012). now it happens at any speed. very, very dangerous! i spoke to a mechanic at a local ford dealership who said that he is not aware of any issues similar to mine.....i find it a little hard to believe that i am the only person in my area with this problem. i suggested he look at the forum. i have 3 children and cannot believe that the powers that be at ford have no concern for our safety, the safety of other drivers on the road, their reputation and refuse to stand behind a product that perportedly won safety awards. very unfortunate. i hope the thousands of postings on the multitude of forums reaches someone at ford (before someone is killed) who has a conscience and is concerned about the safety of those who still beleive in buying american. this ignored, dangerous issue and the ford attitude of not caring will make anyone never purchase a ford product again. i have owned 3 different models and have had issues with all 3.

While driving my 2010 3.0 ford fusion on secondary roads, the car suddenly lost power. after 5 minutes, it could be restarted and driven but after approximately 30 seconds, it would lose power again and coast to a stop. it stranded my wife and daughter until towed to a dealer. the dealer diagnosed a bad throttle body, and charged approximately $700.00 to replace the part and perform a recommended fuel system cleaning. repeated email to ford customer service resulted in a denial of responsibility because they were under no warranty or recall obligation. i spoke with a service writer who told me that this problem appeared to be consistent for fusions.

75 while driving at highway speed car would stop being responsive to the accelerator pedal being depressed. the car would go into limp mode and shake violently. the obd system's & the wrench(powertrain light became illuminated . i proceeded to pull off on to the shoulder of the road and turned the car off. lights reset and car would run okay. this occurred 12 times prior to the obd codes could be determined. code p2111 and various related codes. throttle body stuck open. this problem could potentially have caused a fatal collision in heavy traffic. *tr

I own a 2010 ford fusion with 19000 miles. i haven't even had it a month yet. it is a certified pre-owned vehicle. driving home from work yesterday, i stopped in a line of traffic at a red light. the light turned green and i accelerated. during acceleration, the car jerked then lost all forward momentum and puttered. i was able to putter to the side of the road out of traffic. i put it in park and noticed that the wrench light was lit up, so i pulled out the owner's manual to see what it meant...powertrain. i turned the car off for about 5 minutes then restarted it with no other incidents on my way home. thank god i wasn't in any heavier traffic or multiple lanes! from what i've been reading, some people have lost acceleration going 50+ mph in interstate/highway traffic! if this problem isn't addressed, and soon, someone will be seriously injured or worse due to a defect in ford's design. *tr

At 11:45 pm, i was traveling west on i-64, at 68 mph, when my car quickly decelerated. despite my applying more gas, my car continued to lose power rapidly and began shuddering. it was then that the wrench warning light came on. i immediately pulled over to the side of the road, turned my vehicle off and put my hazard lights on. i waited for a 5 minutes before starting the car again. the car started roughly but did not have any power and could/would not accelerate. it was at this time that both the wrench and engine warning lights came on. again i turned off the car and waited. after another 10-15 minutes, i turned the car on again. this time it started without incident. the wrench warning light did not come back on but the engine light remained on. i kept my hazard lights on and remained in the breakdown lane while i drove approximately 5 miles to the closest exit off the interstate where i promptly parked my car. *tr

Throttle body malfunctions while car is at speed. the wrench light appears on the display and then the car loses power and begins to shudder. turning the car off and restarting it resets the display and starts fine. problem is intermittent but dangerous as the car stops working while the car is going anywhere from 25 to 45 mph. *tr

I was slowing to a stop when my car shuddered and the engine seemed to die. i had a error symbol for the transmission and the engine had no more power. it was stuck in idle now even though i was just doing 35 miles per hour coming to a stop. as i finally braked to a stop the engine was surging, but when i pressed the gas pedal, nothing happened to the engine, it was as if it was just turned on and placed in drive only. i didn't know what to do, i had to get through 2 intersections on idle speed only. i finally pulled over past the intersections and turned my car completely off. i then turned it back on and it was working normally. i took it to the ford dealership, who told me this is common after a new battery is placed in these fusions. they noticed my recently purchased used car (purchased about a month before this) had a brand new battery in it. they told me with a new battery, the carbon builds up dramatically and damages the throttle body. so i need to buy a new throttle body and have the cars acceleration computer reprogrammed. and this might happen every time i get a new battery? please investigate this occurrence with other ford dealerships. i have reading this same story all over the web. why doesn't ford do something to correct this issue?

I have a 2010 fusion. i purchased the car as a certified pre-owned. the car stalled 6 times on the way home last night. the wrench light would go on and there was no throttle response. the car would shake and sputter. i would shut the car off and restart and could proceed for a short distance. the last time it stall on the freeway on ramp. i took it in and let the dealer know what had occured and they called back indicating it is the throttle body. i am out of manufacturers warranty. the cost is $500. the power train system is covered but the throttle body is not (even though the throttle body causes the power train to go into stall)? at what point will they make the choice that the throttle body that is in these cars are not up to par and a safety hazard and make it a recalled item?

I purchased a 2010 ford fusion in june and about 3 weeks later, it decelerated and the wrench lit up on the dashboard, while i was driving. luckily, i was not on the highway or this could have caused a serious accident. i pulled over started the car up and it was fine. a few weeks later, i was 2 blocks from my home and the same thing happened 4 times and continues to randomly happen. the time between instances of this occurring can be minutes, hours, days or weeks apart. i have researched the issue and found hundreds if not thousands of complaints and questions regarding the same issue. i was amazed and appalled that such a common and very dangerous issue has not been addressed with a recall. i did purchase the extended warranty only to find out that the warranty does not cover anything that has to do with what is likely to be causing this issue, which is the throttle body. so until i can afford to get this fixed, i am stuck with a car that i am terrified to drive for fear of causing an accident due to the sudden drop in speed. *tr

My 22 year old son and i had made a roundtrip from tallahassee, florida to thomasville, georgia. approximately one and a half or so miles from my house, the rpms on the car began waving wildly, the car jerked slightly, and came to almost a complete stop on the road, with a truck traveling right behind me. i pressed my foot on the accelerator to the floorboard, but the car slowed to a crawl. the truck behind me passed. i managed to keep the car going to my house; we could have walked there faster. again, this was with the accelerator pressed to the floorboard. the wrench light came on the dash. i had 55, 187.1 miles on my car, which i bought in april, 2010, new. i researched this (it was labor day weekend and i had no transportation to speak of!). i called the ford dealership; they closed on saturday at 2:00 p.m. they towed my car in on tuesday morning. i told them i suspected a throttle/transmission problem based on what i saw re similar complaints on the internet. i reported this to the national ford website. they took my complaint. the dealer told me the next day that my throttle had failed, and ford would not assist in any payment for replacement. i advised them i was a lawyer, and they are looking at a products liability design defect or tort lawsuit (if someone gets killed when the car dies on the highway). ford could care less. i had to pay $394 for the labor and part. i will never buy another of their cars. this was my 3rd ford. it is not necessarily the money i was concerned about; it seems like there is a design defect that could cause serious personal injury or death, but ford is engaged in a beancounting exercise at this point. remember the pinto? *tr

On 8/19/12, we were traveling on i-96 in the left lane at 70 mph when the car suddenly lost power and i could barely drive to the right shoulder. the motor sputtered and seemingly try to die. the wrench light came on. i turned off the motor, called for help, when help arrived, the technician asked me to start the car. it started. my wife and i were able to get home. on 8/20/12, i took it to a ford dealer to get the matter checked as well as get an oil change. the dealer scoped the computer and could find nothing wrong. this evening, 8/20/12, i was driving at 35 miles an hour when there was a lurch and i lost power. i could not accelerate so i turned off the ignition, waited a few seconds, and turned on the motor. i was able to drive home. i've checked a website that indicates there have been quite a few other problems along the same lines as i experienced. i will take the car back to the dealer for a check again but based upon what i read about other complaints, i doubt if the dealer will figure out the issue. this is a very dangerous situation particularly while driving on a freeway at 70 mph and losing total power. had we not been driving on a sunday when traffic was relatively light, we would undoubtedly have been in a serious accident. *tr

Driving down the road at 45mph and the car starts vibrating. all of a sudden i lose acceleration while my foot is still on the gas. luckily i was able to pull over before the car lost momentum and stalled out. the wrench light was on. had no warning at all. i shut the car off, waited about 2-3 minutes and tried to start it again. it turned over but after it struggled to. the wrench light then went off. this has happened four more times! each with no warning! i have looked on a number of sited that have the same complaint about this. there are hundreds of near crash cases and all with no warning. i love how this website says your complaint information will be entered into nhtsa-odi's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other complaints to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists after numerous complaints and an obvious faulty part you still haven't seen a trend? are you kidding me?! today i just missed getting into an accident as the car decided to lose acceleration again as i was pulling out to make a turn across 4 lanes. the lanes were clear to go but oncoming traffic was coming. i was lucky that the person saw my flashers and had the room to move over and get out of the way. apparently ford wants a lawsuit on their hands because as soon as someone gets into an accident(if they have not already) you better bet they'll go after ford. especially since it is apparent that ford has been made aware of this problem and still will not take responsibility for the fact something is wrong. you better believe that if i get hit because there product was not recalled because of a faulty part i'll be front and center with my lawyer and a news crew. *tr

Driving down the road at 45mph and the car starts vibrating. all of a sudden i lose acceleration while my foot is still on the gas. luckily i was able to pull over before the car lost momentum and stalled out. the wrench light was on. had no warning at all. i shut the car off, waited about 2-3 minutes and tried to start it again. it turned over but after it struggled to. the wrench light then went off. this has happened four more times! each with no warning! i have looked on a number of sited that have the same complaint about this. there are hundreds of nar crash cases and all with no warning. i love how this website says your complaint information will be entered into nhtsa-odi's vehicle owner's complaint database and used with other complaints to determine if a safety-related defect trend exists after numerous complaints and an obvious faulty part you still haven't seen a trend? are you kidding me?! today i just missed getting into an accident as the car decided to lose acceleration again as i was pulling out to make a turn across 4 lanes. the lanes were clear to go but oncoming traffic was coming. i was lucky that the person saw my flashers and had the room to move over and get out of the way. apparently ford wants a lawsuite on their hands because as soon as someone gets into an accident(if they have not already) you better bet they'll go after ford. especially since it is apparent that ford has been made aware of this problem and still will not take responsiblity for the fact something is wrong. you better believe that if i get hit because there product was not recalled because of a faulty part i'll be front and center with my lawyer and a news crew.

Driving on florida turnpike, just got on highway and at high speed the check engine light came on, diagnosed as code p2111, throttle stuck open by dtc reader. immediately lost power and about grinded to a halt, had to pull off road and limp to next exit. vehicle stuck in idle until restarted and had no further problems for a few miles but keeps coming up. cannot drive car on highway for fear of another dangerous failure. ford says throttle body is bad, no warrantied after 36,000 miles. *tr

Had noticed several times that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate after pushing the gas. later that afternoon, while accelerating from a stoplight, the vehicle started shaking and lost all power. i was able to get the vehicle into a parking lot and turned it off. when i restarted, the engine seemed to run normally but still hesitated to go when the gas was pressed. i got the car to a dealership and they explained that the throttle body was bad - a common thing on these cars. ford is refusing to cover the replacement under warranty, claiming that this is not part of the drive train - though admitting that the car will not function without the part. *tr

All of a sudden the rpm's immediately dropped to a rough idle. all throttle response was lost, i pulled over on the highway, where the vehicle was in limp mode with the check engine and wrench lights illuminated. the engine was idling very erratically and shaking, there was no response when pressing the accelerator. after shutting down the car, it restarted ok and drove. it suddenly did the same thing 2 more times before i was able to get home. the obd2 code was p2111, the drive by wire throttle bodies on these cars are faulty. seems to be a common problem. *tr

While traveling on the expressway with the cruise control on my engine returned to idle speed and there was no response from the accelerator pedal. i had to coast to a stop on the shoulder, put the car in park, shut it off, and restart it. the next day this happened again twice, the check engine light came on, i read the code and it was p2112 throttle actuator control system stuck shut. i did some research and there are apparently some known problems with the throttle body assembly. my car is out of warranty and the dealer told me this part isn't covered under the extended emissions warranty. i was lucky that this didn't happen while i was turning or merging into traffic. *tr

On 7/22/2012 at approximately 2000 hours my family was traveling southbound on georgia state route 3 - us hwy. 41 in rocky face, georgia when our vehicle (2010 ford fusion automatic transmission) suddenly without notice went from a solid cruising speed of 40mph to an abrupt halt - nose of the car actually went forward towards the ground so abruptly that it made contact with the ground. the vehicle stalled (still barely running) in the lane of travel and would not get any throttle acceleration. my family and vehicle was almost struck by on coming motorists from the rear due to the abrupt stopping and the vehicle would barely get any throttle acceleration. after the georgia state patrol trooper came to assist the car would not go above 25 mph without suddenly stalling and the check engine light coming on along with an orange wrench symbol. the vehicle had to be abandoned at the dalton georgia state patrol post due to this issue until ford could send a representative to tow the vehicle to the local dealer where we purchased. the local dealer on 7/23/12 informed us that this is an on-going problem that ford is aware of and that the throttle body would have to be replaced. upon further online investigation i found that this issue is widespread and reported since 2010 & has caused very unsafe conditions for motorists such as it did with my family. i am asking you all to look into recalling the throttle body on the 2010 ford fusions to be replaced. this is a problem that ford is aware of and they are blatantly passing the blame off onto the consumer and someone (if not my own family) is going to get hurt. it is unsafe for a late model vehicle that has been serviced as required by the manufacture every 3-5 months to have these abrupt issues and break my family down in the roadway of travel on a major us highway. nhtsa please have ford correct before someone gets injured!! *tr

I was driving on a busy highway going about 70 mph and all of a sudden i had no gas peddle. i had my 3 year old daughter in the car at the time. i had no clue what was going on and almost got hit from behind bc i had not touched my brake yet. i pulled over and my car did restart but i did not make it far before it did it again. i took got my car to the dealership and they told me the throttle body needed to be replaced. my car has 40,000 miles i got it brand new off the lot and it's not covered in the extended warranty. the dealership acted like it was no big deal. let me drive off the lot. they also wanted 250 more to repair it. looking online i'm finding out that this is happening to so many people. ford needs to have a recall on this part before someone does in an accident. i called ford myself and filed a formal complaint. please everyone must do the same that is the only way to prevent this from happening to someone else. *tr

While traveling on the expressway with the cruise control on my engine returned to idle speed and there was no response from the accelerator pedal. i had to coast to a stop on the shoulder, put the car in park, shut it off, and restart it. the next day this happened again twice, the check engine light came on, i read the code and it was p2112 throttle actuator control system stuck shut. i did some research and there are apparently some known problems with the throttle body assembly. my car is out of warranty and the dealer told me this part isn't covered under the extended emissions warranty. i was lucky that this didnt happen while i was turning or merging into traffic.

Driving up to a red light that had just turned green, the wrench light came on in my 2010 ford fusion, it began to jerk, i lost all acceleration, and my gas pedal would not respond. i was able to limp the car into a parking lot where i turned the car off. i waited a minute or so and recranked it. it shook/sputtered a little bit, but eventually cranked and the wrench light was off. continued driving and it happened again a couple miles down the road at around 50 mph. again i was able to limp into a parking lot, kill the car, and recrank as before. took car to dealer the next day. they couldn't get an error code reading or replicate the problem. was told to come back with wrench light on (which is impossible because the car won't go when the light is on). i've had this problem occur 3 more times, have filed a complaint with ford, and my vehicle is currently at the dealership as they try to diagnose the problem again. i've read a ridiculous number of complaints about this issue online from other 2010 ford fusion owners. the problem is a bad throttle body, and it is going to get someone killed. i've been driving cautiously since it first occurred because i know i can't rely on the gas pedal to always respond, but for someone to whom it happens the first time who attempts to cross traffic and then finds himself a sitting duck in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic, it is going to spell tragedy. please hold ford responsible! *tr

With no warning or other signs, the car stalled out. driving on a flat /straight road. pulled to the side of the road and restarted the car without issue. 3hrs later the same issue. two days after that my wife experienced the same issue. checking on the internet, this seems to be a re-occurring theme for the electronic throttle bodies of the ford fusion. *tr

Was driving out of a parking lot car suddenly stalled when accelerating. had to park and restart car to reengage engine. wrench and engine lights came on. car stalled out three more times going around the block. diag code was p0455. dealer initially replaced purge valve. on way home from dealership repair, engine cut out going 70 on highway. returned car to dealer. diag code was p2112. dealer replaced throttle body. car seems to be running normally now. this was a scary problem and a huge possible safety hazard when the vehicle cuts out unexpectedly at random times. *tr

I accelerated away from a stop light and as i shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear the car jerked and i had no power at all the engine was still running, but when i put my foot into the accelerator nothing happened. also a wrench was displayed in the warning light area of the dash. i was able to coast to the side of the road and turned the car off. when i restarted it about 15 seconds later the wrench was gone and the car seemed fine. i am reporting this because i see that it is happening to a large number of 2010 fusion owners with similar mileage and it can be a real safety issue when your car dies in traffic! *tr

I was driving on a main street at 40 mph when my fusion suddenly lost power. i was able to pull over in a left turn lane. both the check engine light and the wrench light came on. i was able to restart the car and took back streets at a reduced speed in order to complete the remaining 3 miles to my home. i was able to drive the car to the nearest ford dealership the next morning. apparently, the problem is a defective throttle control. it was replaced for a price slightly less than $500. the replacement comes with a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty. contacted ford customer service to vent my frustration on this expensive maintenance item. response from ford was very disappointing. my claim was denied since my car is less than 4,000 miles out of warranty. i was fortunate that this event did not occur on a highway and i was close to my home. searching the internet showed that this is a common failure with ford fusions. this is the first ford i have purchased and will be the last ford i will purchase. it seems shortsighted on the part of ford to ignore the value of quality and customer satisfaction. i have had my fusion in every three months for routine maintenance, but i see no point in continuing to pay a premium for service at a dealership when i know that ford will not stand behind their vehicles. *tr

On multiple occasions the car will just lose all throttle response, the car is still running, but will not accelerate. i have to find some place to pull over and shut the car off. then restart the engine and then it will run good. the issue happens sometimes up six times in one day, and then you can go a week without an issue. i have seen this issue with speeds as low as 20 mph all the way up to 70 mph. from what i have read online it would appear to possibly be due to a defective throttle body. apparently this throttle body uses a servo to open and close the butterfly that allows air into the intake manifold. i feel this could be a very dangerous problem especially if you are driving and it loses the ability to accelerate and you can not find a safe place to pull over to restart the car. *tr

On june 19, 2012, driving at approximately 40 mph, the car does not respond to pressing gas pedal, and it slows to a stop; everything else seems to continue to work fine. turned car off, then restarted it with no issues. on july 7, 2012, again driving at about 40-45 mph, the car starts to jerk, the gas pedal doesn't work, and the car starts to slow, while jerking, and a wrench/tool symbol appears on the dashboard. i pulled over, turned the car off, then turned it back on. i made it about 1 mile (close to home) and the car loses power in the same manner, jerking and slowing, gas pedal doesn't work, and the wrench light and the engine light both come on. i was able to roll down the road into my driveway. final incident with the same issues occurred on july 9, 2012. i called ford (car was still under warranty), and they said it was the throttle body, and the throttle body was replaced. *tr

I accelerated away from a stop light and as i shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear the car jerked and i had no power at all the engine was still running, but when i put my foot into the accelerator nothing happened. also a wrench was displayed in the warning light area of the dash. i was able to coast to the side of the road and turned the car off. when i restarted it about 15 seconds later the wrench was gone and the car seemed fine. i am reporting this because i see that it is happening to a large number of 2010 fusion owners with similiar milage and it can be a real safety issue when your car dies in traffic!

*tr

I and my children were traveling down the highway at 60 mph and i all of a sudden i could not give the car any gas. the motor was still running but i had no control over the gas. so i coasted until i could pull over. as i slowed down, the car shuttered. i turned the car off and restarted it. it ran fine for awhile. then it happened again and again (as i was entering an intersection, turning onto a major highway, and rounding a curve) until it was happening 3-4 times in a trip. i took the vehicle in to the dealership and they cleaned the throttle body. it ran ok for about 2 weeks and then became worse than it was before. i took it back to the dealership and they replaced the throttle body. so now time will tell. i was/am concerned about the fact i might not have been so lucky to be able to get off of the road and could have been in an accident. i have seen that this is a common occurrence in the 2010 ford fusion. i have contacted ford motor company as well to no avail. *tr

While cruising between 65 - 70 mph, vehicle stuttered, then throttle control/transmission' warning light illuminated, and vehicle lost power. accelerator pedal completely unresponsive and engine becomes erratic, but power steering and other electrical components unaffected. able to coast to side of road, where engine continues to sputter, but does not stall. changing transmission position has no effect. turning vehicle off and then back on appears to rectify the condition. two identical occurrences, but first time (06/15/12) with cruise control on, second time (07/06/12) with cruise control off. dealership unable to find source of problem. *tr

The first time, the car was pulling on to a main road going up to 15 mph while turning right. the car began to shudder, stall (only able to coast to a stop), many warning lights including the wrench light came on and dinged. after shutting the key off and waiting up to a couple of minutes, engine started fine and drove normally. 1 month later, this exact scenario happened again while turning right from a complete stop. 1 month later, it happened again but with only the yellow wrench light coming on (the car was curving to the right at about 40 mph). 2 days later the car did the same thing at about 35 mph. this time the car would start up, and be fine until we accelerated. we narrowly avoided an accident when the car did the same thing a second time. it then did it a third time and we waited to start the car. we were then able to drive the car home normally with a code alert on the dash. i took the car to get a diagnosis and they showed code p2111.

While driving my car it suddenly jerked and stopped like i had turned it off. i coasted to side of road it was still running could not give it any gas a wrench light came on.i turned off car and restarted it, it came back on wrench went off.drove it on home it jumped and jerked like it was going to quit at any moment.i then took it to my dealership they ran a diagnostic test on it said it was throttle body but was not covered under my warranty.i have had no problems with this car since purchasing it but have only had it less than a year.i am concerned with a serious accident happening because it just shuts off the gas and i cannot move it or get it out of traffic.

Driving in the left lane of a multi-lane road. the light had just gone yellow and all of a sudden the engine hiccupped hard and i had no response to the gas pedal at all, plus the check engine light (wrench icon) came on. put on my signal and pulled into the left turn lane as it was empty. i didn't want to block the left lane, it was the start of rush hour traffic. i came to a stop and had no vehicle movement in response to stepping on the gas pedal. i put the vehicle in park, turned off the engine and tried to restart it. the check engine light went away and the car started and acted normal. i stopped at the store on the way home, then on the way from the store to home it happened again. i had to stop the vehicle and put it in park and turn it off in order for it to start again. when i got home i put a code reader on the vehicle, but it showed no code. it did it again on my way to work in the morning and again on the way home after work. each time i have to maneuver the vehicle to the side of the road and come to a complete stop, put it in park and turn it off and back on to get it to start again. this is extremely dangerous for me and anyone around me. i take my vehicle to ford for servicing and they say no recalls are in place for this. i enter the symptoms into the search engine of the internet and find numerous complaints from other owners and drivers of the same defect. there is a problem with the electronic throttle body. i called my local ford dealer and they say that first they have to run tests to verify the throttle body is the problem and i will be charged for that, because the code resets each time. the total bill will be $600 to $700. they have dealt with it before, but ford has nothing in place to address it as a safety issue. please don't wait til someone gets hurt or possibly killed before this matter is taken seriously and proper measures are taken.

Engine began shutting down while moving in morning rush hour. also surges forward and runs thru multiple gears while in stop and go traffic with light, if any throttle applied. on 6-8-12 engine went into failsafe mode, 1100 rpm while traveling at 60 mph. no response from throttle, had to manipulate thru traffic to beach car upon shoulder of road. after shutting off key and restarting, vehicle seemed fine, but same situation happened twice more within minutes. drove car to nearest ford dealer who cleared the old codes and test drove, finding no further issue. billed me under esp service agreement, and continued onto work. leaving work to make deliveries, car initiated exactly same response as earlier (5 times), at various speeds, and again, heavy traffic. took to dealer i bought car from, who immediately claimed it needed a new throttle body, which are on national back-order, delivery date unknown. referred to another dealer who had open bays and a throttle body in stock, but for some reason was uninterested in even looking at the car. offered to leave car, esp offers rental, so i could return to work, but that part has become uncovered by the extended warranty, and they still had no interest in fixing car after i agreed to pay myself. transmission has a quirky problem of downshifting aggressively when traveling downhill, up-shifting rapidly in slow moving traffic, and now a throttle body problem which causes car to go into a no power situation while at speed.

I have a 2010 ford fusion with a six cylinder engine. while driving , i started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 700 rpm), but all systems where still working. pressing the gas pedal produced no results. i was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 45 seconds, and then restarted it. when the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. last thrusday and friday, the fusion did the exact same thing, i had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. i was able to pull off the road, stop the car , and then restart. this is thrid time i take to the dealer, and still received not diagnostic. actualy this vehicle is in the dealer workshop (automovilistica veracruzana sa de cv. av lafragua 2100 tel 011 52 229 9231920 veracruz, mexico) . the first and second visit to the dealer the diagnostic was no problem

Going about 75 mph with cruise on when problem occurred. the wrench light comes on and the car loses its acceleration completely. i pull over the side of the road. the engine would only turn 1000 rpm. the only way to fix it is to turn the car off and back on again. the wrench light will disappear after that and it'll start driving normally again. the problems seems to be with a bad throttle body assembly part. contacted ford about safety problem. many examples on the internet of other owners with this problem with the 2010 ford fusion.
