AQ10001FORD MOTOR COMPANY11/18/2010Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit
The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened.

While i was driving on a county highway at almost 60mph the car shook/shuttered, then a wrench warning light appeared and i pulled onto the shoulder of the road because it felt like the car was losing power. i had just gotten off of the highway and it stalled. i called my husband to come and because it was dark and only 20 degrees outside i started the car again about 15 minutes later. it started right up but we had it towed to a mechanic anyway and they found nothing wrong with it. because i was scared to drive it after this i took it to a ford dealer (ewald in hartford, wi) to have it checked over. they could not find anything wrong with it. then this same scenario occured again about 3-1/2 weeks later at 5:15am on my way to work. this time i was just pulling away from a stop sign and barely going 20mph. it did the same thing with shaking, the wrench light coming on and the car stalling. there was no shoulder where i was so i didn't want to wait for a tow truck or help. i started it back up and took it back home where it sat in the garage for 1-1/2 days until i could get it to a dealership. ewald ford looked at it for me again but they said they could not find any issues. they told me not to start it again if it happens or the codes will clear out so i will need to have it towed or put a portable code reader on it to see if i can get something for them. i just saw an arcticle in our milwaukee paper stating that you are investigating these issues and i wanted to let you know that i've had the same problems. please help to force a recall before someone gets killed.thank you!!

Started driving to get home from work and suddenly the service advancetrac light came on, didnt notice anything until i did a turn. the steering felt stiff, not really paying attention to the problem got home shut off the car. the next morning heading to work turned on the car and then the service power steering now light had come on as well. after that the power steering was gone, i couldnt turn the wheels. did some research and a lot of fusions are having this problem and so far no results without spending thousands of dollars at the dealer.

I purchased my car on 1/24/10. beginning in april/may of 2011 my car began to stall without warning. at first it would happen at stoplights. i began to bring it to the dealer who was unable to capture an error code or replicate the issue. they sent me away. it then escalated to stalling uphill going 35 mph on a curvy one lane road. again, brought it back to the dealer with the same result, no error code couldn't replicate, so no fix. at this time i began to investigate online only to find numerous forums of other 2010 ford fusion (sport awd) owners experiencing the same spontaneous stalling issues. again, ford said they didn't know how to fix because no error and couldn't replicate. over the past 3 years we have brought the vehicle in 5 times for the same issue (currently at dealer now for three weeks). this stalling issue has happened at stoplights, going 35 mph uphill and 75 mph on the freeway. there is no warning except the car will jerk then the engine shuts off. we have been lucky so far that we've been able to pull off the road while avoiding an accident, but it's been close sometimes. in december 2012 i contacted ford directly to request a repurchase or replacement. they have denied my claim because it was not repaired or diagnosed enough during a set period of time. i have expressed repeatedly to them my concern not only for the safety of my family but of other motorists on the road and all those other owners experiencing the exact same issue. i am beyond frustrated with ford's lack of concern and accountability for this issue. i am afraid to drive my car, it's unpredictable and unsafe. this is serious and someone, someday will get into an accident whether minor or major. the issue is it can be avoided if ford would only step up, own the issue and place their customers safety first over profit and protecting their reputation. please help!

Tire valves all started giving me problems. i would wake up to flat tires every morning. when i would fix one, the other would start leaking air as well. i had to change all four of them because coincidentally they were all leaking air. the staff at the dealership were also trying to blame me saying that i must've hit something. it's not me, it's the car.

Transmission started going out after only two or three months of purchasing it. i couldn't believe it. ford dealership took care of it.

While driving in the middle lane on the interstate at 70 mph, vehicle suddenly lost acceleration, tachometer started going up and down, and car became unresponsive. was able to get car over to shoulder. turned car off, attempted to drive again and immediately started the same problem. i had to get the car towed. this could have caused a serious accident if i was not able to change lanes as quickly as i did. was told by dealer the throttle drive body needed to be replaced. the car has only 23000 miles.

I was drivign down a local road at the limit when the wrench light warning indicator came on, after the indicator was on there was not throttle response, engine was still running and yet no power going to the wheels. i was able to roll over to the side of the road and put on hazard warning lights, car while at idle was jerking and bucking. i then limpt the vehicle to a parkign lot, placed it in drive and filmed the issue with a cell phone in a parking lot and nerated as to what was happening. once the vehicle was shut down adn then restarted the light weent out and the problem did not persist. i took it to the dealership and no codes showed up in a diagnostic and the dealership could not reproduce the problem but suspected it was the throttle body controler as this was a common occurance

I was driving at 40mph on a busy main road i pulled into the turning lane when the light turned green my car would not accelerate. i was almost hit from behind due to the car not accelerating this has consistantly happened at least 8-9 times in a 4 day period.

While driving the car to get on freeway it boggled down like it was going to turn off and check engine light turned on and wrench symbol so pulled to the side and car was shaking as if it had no gas so turned off for 3 min and turned back on and drove not even a mile down the road and it did the same thing so turned off and on again and it ran as if was fine not even a month later started doing the same thing once you drive and it starts to accelerate it boggles down and lights come on. got it checked and was told it was the throttle body which is happening in a lot of ford fusion 2010 cars. *tr

Ford fusion 2012 3.0l v6 sel goes into limp-mode without warning at highway speeds. a slight shudder immediately before tripping the limp-mode where the accelerator becomes disabled. no or minimal power is available to pull out of traffic safely. wrench light comes on, however, the engine is still running. once the car turned off and restarted, the car runs normally until the symptom happens again. no other symptoms are present prior to going into limp-mode. brought the car to a mechanic and they could not find any saved engine codes and could not reproduce the problem. no work was done to correct the problem due to no evidence of it in the computer. has happened three times at highway speeds, without any warning, and creates a hazardous driving experience.

I left my house to pick up my child from school and about 30 seconds into my trip my car suddenly shut off, mid-driving. i was in the middle of making a turn going approximately 20-25 mph and it just died. the battery light, oil drip container and the bright orange wrench came on all at the same time. i had no power to move the car. my a/c went warm and my gas pedal no longer worked. i managed to coast to a stop on the side of the road and then i had to call for someone to come get me so i could be at my sons school on time. have to turn the key back all the way and wait a minute before being able to restart the vehicle. there are way too many complaints and dangers with driving a vehicle that randomly decides to shut itself off when your driving for this to be allowed to go on. i am worried to death that i might get run over/hit from behind the next time this happens and i sincerely hope that my children aren't injured as a result.

Was driving home from work and the car just stopped. unable to get the car to start getting a wrench showing looked in manuel shows something to do with the throttle. i am over the new car warranty. i spoke to teh dealer and they were aware of the issues with the fusions. repair cost over $500.

Wrench light came on and car went from 35mph to coasting. i was able to pull to the side of the road and shut the car down. waited a few minutes car started up and i gave it some gas it went for a few minutes and then the car sputtered and all the lights came on and car stopped. was close to ford service center, they just called and said the throttle body has gone bad.

While driving at a low speed (10-35 mph) the car quickly gains speed (the rpm does not increase) and then slows down again and it feels like the gears shift down although it doesnt seem possible. the gas pedal stops working and a wrench shows on the dash board, the car slowly decreases in speed. as i come to a stop the car jumps and lurches violently. i turn the car off, wait a few minutes and turn the car back on. the wrench goes away however after this happens 5 more time the engine light comes on. this happens intemittently. i read in the forum people describing issues similar and exactly that same as mine and it seemed as thou it was the throttle body. could not afford the part so i waited and it went away. this stopped for roughly 5 months and then starts again (oct 2012). now it happens at any speed. very, very dangerous! i spoke to a mechanic at a local ford dealership who said that he is not aware of any issues similar to mine.....i find it a little hard to believe that i am the only person in my area with this problem. i suggested he look at the forum. i have 3 children and cannot believe that the powers that be at ford have no concern for our safety, the safety of other drivers on the road, their reputation and refuse to stand behind a product that perportedly won safety awards. very unfortunate. i hope the thousands of postings on the multitude of forums reaches someone at ford (before someone is killed) who has a conscience and is concerned about the safety of those who still beleive in buying american. this ignored, dangerous issue and the ford attitude of not caring will make anyone never purchase a ford product again. i have owned 3 different models and have had issues with all 3.

This is my second complaint in as many days - about the exact same problem. this incident happened two days after the first one. traveling on a city street approximately 15-20 mph and the car suddenly loses all acceleration and the wrench light appears. i was able to putter to the side of the road and shut the car off. when i restarted it, it ran fine. it goes to the dealer today for inspection, where i suspect i'll get the same response that most every one else gets - that the problem couldn't be re-produced. what will it take to get a recall from ford about the defect in their design? fatal accidents?? that's a pretty high price to pay before they're forced to correct their product. *tr

The interior door handle on the drivers side door (and other doors as i have read), breaks at the point of contact with the spring release. once the handle has broken the door cannot be opened from the inside. occupants must roll down a window and open the door from the outside, effectively trapping the occupant inside the vehicle should the windows not roll down.

My 2010 ford fusion has a power sunroof and one day, when i tried to close the sunroof, it would not close all the way. after inspection, i verified that a piece of plastic had broken off the sunroof rail that is critical to pushing down the automatic wind deflector. the wind deflector stays up and the sunroof runs into it directly, preventing it from closing properly. after detailed inspection, there are several cracks in the roof rail plastic and must be replaced entirely. this repair will cost more than $1,000 and i have not even reached 70,000 miles yet. i also hardly ever use the sunroof.

I own a 2010 ford fusion with 19000 miles. i haven't even had it a month yet. it is a certifed pre-owned vehicle. driving home from work yesterday, i stopped in a line of traffic at a red light. the light turned green and i accelerated. during acceleration, the car jerked then lost all forward momentum and puttered. i was able to putter to the side of the road out of traffic. i put it in park and noticed that the wrench light was lit up, so i pulled out the owner's manual to see what it meant...powertrain. i turned the car off for about 5 minutes then restarted it with no other incidents on my way home. thank god i wasn't in any heavier traffic or multiple lanes! from what i've been reading, some people have lost acceleration going 50+ mph in interstate/highway traffic! if this problem isn't addressed, and soon, someone will be seriously injured or worse due to a defect in ford's design.

At 11:45 pm, i was traveling west on i-64, at 68 mph, when my car quickly decelerated. despite my applying more gas, my car continued to lose power rapidly and began shuddering. it was then that the wrench warning light came on. i immediately pulled over to the side of the road, turned my vehicle off and put my hazard lights on. i waited for a 5 minutes before starting the car again. the car started roughly but did not have any power and could/would not accelerate. it was at this time that both the wrench and engine warning lights came on. again i turned off the car and waited. after another 10-15 minutes, i turned the car on again. this time it started without incident. the wrench warning light did not come back on but the engine light remained on. i kept my hazard lights on and remained in the breakdown lane while i drove approximately 5 miles to the closest exit off the interstate where i promptly parked my car.

I was slowing to a stop when my car shuddered and the engine seemed to die. i had a error symbol for the transmission and the engine had no more power. it was stuck in idle now even though i was just doing 35 miles per hour coming to a stop. as i finally braked to a stop the engine was surging, but when i pressed the gas pedal, nothing happened to the engine, it was as if it was just turned on and placed in drive only. i didn't know what to do, i had to get through 2 intersections on idle speed only. i finally pulled over past the intersections and turned my car completely off. i then turned it back on and it was working normally. i took it to the ford dealership, who told me this is common after a new battery is placed in these fusions. they noticed my recently purchased used car (purchased about a month before this) had a brand new battery in it. they told me with a new battery, the carbon builds up dramatically and damages the throttle body. so i need to buy a new throttle body and have the cars acceleration computer reprogrammed. and this might happen every time i get a new battery? please investigate this occurrence with other ford dealerships. i have reading this same story all over the web. why doesn't ford do something to correct this issue?

I was driving my vehicle on the highway, at approximately 55-60 mph, when i suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. the car stalled, and the wrench light came on. i had to pull over and restart the car. this happened again, the next day. the car also began to shake prior to turning the car off. i have read hundreds, if not more, complaints regariding this same issue. my car is currently at a local ford dealership, where i was advised that it sounded like the throttle body. the ford dealer commented that this is a common complaint among the 2010 fusions. again, since discovering this problem, i have read hundreds of complaints online in reference to the same issue. i have filed a complaint with ford, as this part/defect is not covered under my powertrain warranty, even though my vehicle is only two years old, with 58,000 miles. this is a tremendous safety concern, with car losing all ability to accelerate on a busy highway.

On 8/19/12, we were traveling on i-96 in the left lane at 70 mph when the car suddenly lost power and i could barely drive to the right shoulder. the motor sputtered and seemingly try to die. the wrench light came on. i turned off the motor, called for help, when help arrived, the technician asked me to start the car. it started. my wife and i were able to get home. on 8/20/12, i took it to a ford dealer to get the matter checked as well as get an oil change. the dealer scoped the computer and could find nothing wrong. this evening, 8/20/12, i was driving at 35 miles an hour when there was a lurch and i lost power. i could not accelerate so i turned off the ignition, waited a few seconds, and turned on the motor. i was able to drive home. i've checked a website that indicates there have been quite a few other problems along the same lines as i experienced. i will take the car back to the dealer for a check again but based upon what i read about other complaints, i doubt if the dealer will figure out the issue. this is a very dangerous situation particularly while driving on a freeway at 70 mph and losing total power. had we not been driving on a sunday when traffic was relatively light, we would undoubtedly have been in a serious accident.

Returning to tn from vacation in fl on 7/15/12. traveling before birmingham, al - heard a loud boom sound (like a tire blow out), then heard a roar. as we signaled to move from the fast lane to the emergency lane - flames were over the back window of the car. by the time that we reached the emergency lane, the entire car was engulfed in flames both inside and outside. the car was entirely engulfed in flames within 10 to 20 seconds. i had purchased the car from moss motor company in south pittsburg, tn on 6/4/12. the car had issues within two weeks that required the car to be towed back to the dealer for powertrain issue. dealer did not share the ticket with me on repairs that were completed two weeks before the car exploded. but they kept the car for over one week to fix the issue that caused it to stop pulling while driving. this was the first long trip that i had taken in the car. my two passengers experienced mild burns but we lost all personal items in the car due to the speed that the car burned. alabama highway patrol worked the explosion and fire department had to work the fire. state farm assured me that they would investigate the cause of the fire but has just informed me that they did not do a thorough investigation. i have witness names and contact information as well as photographs that they took as the car burned if needed.

2010 ford fusion has pinhole in evaporator core/valve. the cheapest estimate is over $900.00 and this car is 3 yrs old with 65,000 miles.

Driving up to a red light that had just turned green, the wrench light came on in my 2010 ford fusion, it began to jerk, i lost all acceleration, and my gas pedal would not respond. i was able to limp the car into a parking lot where i turned the car off. i waited a minute or so and recranked it. it shook/sputtered a little bit, but eventually cranked and the wrench light was off. continued driving and it happened again a couple miles down the road at around 50 mph. again i was able to limp into a parking lot, kill the car, and recrank as before. took car to dealer the next day. they couldn't get an error code reading or replicate the problem. was told to come back with wrench light on (which is impossible because the car won't go when the light is on). i've had this problem occur 3 more times, have filed a complaint with ford, and my vehicle is currently at the dealership as they try to diagnose the problem again. i've read a ridiculous number of complaints about this issue online from other 2010 ford fusion owners. the problem is a bad throttle body, and it is going to get someone killed. i've been driving cautiously since it first occurred because i know i can't rely on the gas pedal to always respond, but for someone to whom it happens the first time who attempts to cross traffic and then finds himself a sitting duck in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic, it is going to spell tragedy. please hold ford responsible!

While driving on the highway at 70 mph my car cuts off. i merge to the side of the road and after a few minutes it restarts. i put it in drive and continue driving. the next morning it does the same thing. when it looses power the wrench light, check engine light, and traction control lights come on and it says service advancetrac in the service bar on the dash panel. i have taken it to ford several times and there are no codes stored for them to go by. they made me a new key and stated they thought it was my key going bad. i am sure that it is something more as it has done it again even with the new key. there is definitly something going on with the throttle bodies on these cars. it is very scary and unsafe when the car loses power in rush hour traffic. i have 3 children that i transport in this car everyday. i honestly hope ford investigates this and fixes the problem. i also had the problem with the lug nuts and wheel studs snapping off. there is a recall for that but i was told my car did not fall under that recall even though it was having the same issues? this is the first ford i have ever owned and i will never buy another one. not just the quality of the vehicle, but the techs at the shops don't know anything, and ford does not stand behind their products!!

I was travelling at 60mph in morning rushour traffic when the 2010 ford fusion lost acceleration. then the car started to chug so i pulled off onto the shoulder before the exit. it was not a full shoulder as the car was still occupying half of a lane. a ten-wheeler truck was right behind me and fortunately was able to stop.the car had to be towed to the dealership and the throttle body had to be replaced. this car is a safety hazard.

I will never buy a ford vehicle again. my 2010 fusion is currently in the shop. it has been hesitating like there was water in the gas. we ruled that out. we checked transmission fluid, it was a little low so we added some. a little better but did not fix it. we were traveling on a major interstate when we had to coast to the shoulder when it would not pull anymore. check engine light came on. after sitting idle it finally leveled out and light went off but still was hesitating. the light continued to go off and on the remainder of the drive. when we reached our destination we located a ford dealership. they kept our car for a couple of hours and called us and said it reported a misfire code but that was all and that we needed to change the spark plugs. so we picked our car up and drove it back home to our regular dealership. our dealership kept it for 1 day and said the same thing, misfire code and to change the spark plugs and swap the coils around. so we did. didn't fix it. brought it back to our dealership where they kept it for exactly 2 weeks with no results. said they could not get it to do anything for them and if it started back to bring it back. 2 hours later we were back at the dealership. that was 3 days ago and still no explanation. they are stumped!!! so where does that leave me? with a $400.00 note on a car that is in the shop. ford needs to accept some responsibility. it's no coincidence everyone is having pretty much the same issues.

On take off in heavy traffic the transmission slipped and jerked hard. i was frightened and pulled over for about 20 minutes to call my dad whom is a mechanic. he stated that it was the transmission and that i should drive it home which was a hour away. i was scared that it would do it again at full speed. 2 days later as i tried to reverse out of my driveway the car revved up but didn't move then jerked into gear and i flew out the driveway very hard and jerking violently. i don't want to drive with my niece or my little 4 year old brother in case of something dangerous. i haven't experienced this ever with a vehicle. i plan to take the car in immediately! i have been driving another car for the moment. because i have to travel alot.

While stopped with foot on break - the engine began to rev and the car began to lurch forward lurch forward. i had to keep pressing harder on the brake i looked down to be sure i did not have my foot on the gas and i did not. i had to put the car in park and turn off the egnition to get the car to stop reving up and lurching forward. my wife told me she had a similar incident with the engine reving up when she had the car on cruise control but it only lasted a few moments, in that incident she was going 60. also, we do not have the floor mats that we read about in other posts online.

I was sitting at a red light when the light turned green and i put on the gas the car jumped. the engine light came on. i pulled over to the side of the road. the car had no excelleration but still had power. i turned off the vehicle and turned it back on. the car started back up and the light went off. i took the car to a auto repair shop. the diagnostic test stated it is the throttle body going bad. the mechanic cleaned this part good and the sensors. the car has run fine for about three weeks with out any problems until 06/11/12 then it started agian it has done it four times since and the engine light will not go off. i have used high test gas in it.

While traveling in traffic the car lost power. i was able to steer to the shoulder of the road where the car idled roughly and i noticed a wrench light came on. i shut the car down while i collected my thoughts on what to do. i used my phone to find the closest ford dealer and, before calling for a tow vehicle, i tried to restart the car. it restarted, the wrench light was off, and it seemed to run fine. i drove directly to the nearest ford dealer without incident where they hooked up the computer to see what was wrong. they could find nothing wrong and suggested the next time it happened to try and get it to a dealer while the light was on. i then drove approximately 120 miles home with my grandson. this morning i went on the internet to see if there were any similar instances such as mind and found there were quite a few: (http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2010/ford/fusion/power_train/problem.aspx) the incidents others reported were almost identical to mine. i then called the dealer i bought the car from new, and they ran a check to see if there were any recalls on my model and there weren't. they suggested i call ford customer service. i tried calling them and was told by a representative they were having technical issues and couldn't help me, to call back in an hour. i live in a very rural area. the closest ford dealer is probably 50-60miles away. the roads here don't have much room to pull off on if the car fails again. judging by the complaints i have seen online, it seems there is a problem with this car and there should be some action being taken to remedy it. this situation creates a safety hazard for anyone driving or riding in the car.

I was just leaving my neighborhood and just got down to the end of the road, when all of a sudden i feel this really bad shaking, had no acceleration when pressed on gas and car kept jerking until i finally had to shut it off. i did research on it immediately and found out that this is a throttle body issue that has become very relevant with my car make/model. this is very dangerous! if i was in heavy traffic or god forbid had kids in the car, this could have caused a major accident! this recall needs to be taken seriously and addressed fast!!!!

I was driving down the road and suddenly i was losing power. the car was on but stepping on the gas pedal did nothing. the check engine light and the little wrench came on. i coasted into a parking lot and put the car in park. it started to vibrate and make noise. i shut it off and tried to restart it. it seemed normal so i started to drive home. i got about 3 mile and it did it again. it has steadily done this about 2-3 times a week now. one time i was going 65-70 on the express way and had to coast off. the last time i was turning left and i had the green light i was in the middle of the intersection. my light turned red i could have been plowed into and killed. i bought this car may 2011. i have only had this car for 1 year it had 65000 miles, i have no warranty on this car and can not afford to have it fixed. this is dangerous are they waiting for deaths to do anything about it? i have instructed my family if that happens to sue ford. ford knows there is a problem with these cars and should fix it.

I have a 2010 ford fusion with a six cylinder engine. while driving , i started speeding up from an intersection, only to experience a complete and total loss of power, the wrench light came, the engine started misfiring (rough idle at less than 700 rpm), but all systems where still working. pressing the gas pedal produced no results. i was able to pull off the side of the road, stop the engine, let the car sit for about 45 seconds, and then restarted it. when the engine restarted, the car started up and ran like nothing had happened. last thrusday and friday, the fusion did the exact same thing, i had a catastrophic loss of power, the wrench light came on again, the engine was misfiring (rough idle), the rest of the systems continued working. i was able to pull off the road, stop the car , and then restart. this is thrid time i take to the dealer, and still received not diagnostic. actualy this vehicle is in the dealer workshop (automovilistica veracruzana sa de cv. av lafragua 2100 tel 011 52 229 9231920 veracruz, mexico) . the first and second visit to the dealer the diagnostic was no problem

I was driving at approximately 45 mph, when car decelerated, and started to stall. a wrench light was on, and i was able to slowly make my way to a driveway off of the main highway. i turned off the engine, waited for a few minutes before starting the car and making my way home. i plan to take to ford dealer tomorrow. however, it appears, based on many, many complaints, that this is an issue with the throttle body. ford needs to recall/replace this part. my 19-year-old daughter drives this car, and safety is a major issue!

While driving my car suddenly went into shut down mode. a wrench symbol showed on panel. i was able to turn into a drive way and after turning the vehicle off and back on the wrench went off and the car ran normal. i took to the shop and nothing showed on the computer. it then happened 5 more times. back to the dealership now says that it is bad throttle body and is not covered. after researching online it appears to be a bigger problem and ford should recall. there are so many complaints that it is obvious that it is a defect. people are going to get killed. ford fix this now. i have no choice but to pay to have it fixed but i shouldn't. it would be very interesting to see how many have been fixed to date just by ford and not other companies.

I was driving home and going up a hill when i felt the vehicle slow acceleration and then it revved back up. the transmission/throttle control light came on so i pulled over. i turned the vehicle off and waited for a few minutes. turned the vehicle back on and when i went to accelerate it lurched. i continued driving home and since it was after 9:00 p.m. when i got home, i couldn't take it to the dealership until the next morning. on may 11, 2012 i took it to the dealership and they called to tell me that the vehicle slipped from 4th gear into 5th gear and this should never happen so they were going to have to pull the transmission and i would be without my car for 5-6 days. after research on the internet it appears that several people are having this same issue with the transmission of the 2010 ford fusion.

I was driving in busy traffic area when my throttle body caused issues on my 2010 ford fusion. i managed to get out of the flow of traffic. my car has only 47,700 miles on it. i have learned other ford fusion owners have experienced the same problem. i managed to get my car home (3 miles away). my son reset the computer, and i drove the car again the following day, and it happened again on the interstate. driving 65 mph in heavy traffic, it happened -- the speed dropped down to 20 mph. i could not go any faster. it was 2 miles until i could get off the next exit ramp. i drove on the shoulder part of the way but there were two cars on the shoulder with other issues that i had to drive around. it was frightening and potentially hazardous. i did not know what the problem was. i did not know if the car was going to die at any time or not. it was dark and late on a sunday. if felt vulnerable. i have read on the internet that other 2010 fusion owners have experienced similar problems - hazardous situations and having to pay for repairs when the car doesn't have high mileage like mine. some are covered under warranty (under 36,000) and some just barely over the 36,000 miles so they were not covered under their warranty. the cost of the repair was just barely under $470. for some reason it wasn't covered under my esp extracare warranty, and i don't get that either. please consider a recall on this part for others who might experience an serious accident as a result.

I have a 2010 ford fusion s, i was driving home for christmas break when my car shut off and had no throttle response. i didn't drive the vehicle for like five days and the car was fine but it started back up in janurary and again in the beginning of march. it has a code of p211 which is the throttle body issue. i have done some research on the problem and multiple ford fusion's are having the same issues as i am. for some reason ford is trying to avoid hearing the issue on the fact that they have faulty throttle bodies. it is a saftey issue when you are traveling down the highway or interstate at 60-70 mph and all of sudden your car no longer has a throttle response. you have to pull off the road shut your car off and restart it. this doesn't fix the problem it just does it all over again within the next mile or two. ford should realize the issue and make a recall for the throttle body. there are people throughout the united states that are paying between $400-$600 out of their pocket if their car is no longer under warranty to fix a common problem that people are having with ford fusions.

Unknown or other in this case would likely relate to power train and/or electrical, but definitely relates to public safety. the ignition tumbler releases the key in any position--park, neutral, drive, or low--rather than in only park. drivers of cars with manual transmissions are accustomed to setting hand brakes using gears. prior the the date of incident above, i recall moving slightly forward on a slight slope, and i simply applied the hand break to avoid putting more strain on drive components. after a dead battery (due to lighted dash gear position indicator) and a jump start, it was days later that i realized that the key had been removed with the car in gear. the ford dealer and ford motor company say repair consists of replacing the shift assembly (includes sending unit which has no output) at a cost to me of $487.65 + tax. they claim this is not a power train issue and that my cpo expired less than a month earlier, this on a ford certified car. public safety is involved because a rolling car can cause havoc.

I own a 2010 ford fusion which we purchased october 2010. i brought my car to my local repair/inspection provider (not the ford dealer) to have oil change, tire rotation and inspection sticker. while my car was there it was noted that one of the wheel studs (front passenger) was snapped off and appeared to have happened awhile ago because the exposed component was rusted. it was recommended that i contact ford dealer to see if covered under warranty and inspection could not proceed until repaired. i brought it to ford dealer where car was purchased the next day. they stated it was not covered and would not even inspect it for defects. stated there was no possible way it could fracture on its own and must have happened at previous repair shop when they were taking the wheels off for rotation. they stated it would cost approximately $125 to repair one stud. i declined and returned to the previous repair shop where it was repaired for half the cost. it should also be noted that my tires had never been serviced before and this defect was noted prior to the rotation.

My trip odometer continues to malfunction despite being replaced with a brand new instrument cluster. i will park the vehicle, reset the trip odometer to 0.0, and when i return the next day or several hours later the trip odometer will increase in mileage by itself! for example, the trip odometer will now read 0.1, 0.4, 0.6, 0.7, or 0.9. apparently this is a design flaw within the instrument cluster for this vehicle that i am responsible for discovering, which explains the warranty providing me with a brand new instrument cluster. the ford dealership claims that the trip odometer is rounding off to the tenth based upon the current tenth that the main odometer is on. i questioned the dealership on the fact of whether or not my main odometer was being compromised? while the main odometer is causing the trip odometer to move without being driven, can the trip odometer cause the main odometer to move without being driven as well? the dealership told me no, but it is possible that this situation could be a two way street, and if it is then ford is guilty of odometer fraud!!!!!

I own a v6 2010 ford fusion and on two separate occassions, while driving on the highway at approximate speeds of 65 mph the engine has stalled without warming. at the time the engine stalls, a service light will come on and the car completely shuts down. in both instances, the car could be restarted, and the service light dissapeared upon restart. we have taken it to the dealership after both incidents, and they are unable to identify a fix as the service code is not being stored in events of engine failure (and the light is not staying on after restart). this is an extremely dangerous situation as it has happened without warning, while travelling on major highways at high speeds. i have seen entries from other owners on both the nhsta site and other blogs siting the same problem, yet ford is unwilling to accept that this is a pervasive problem and is not working to find a solution. we have escalated from the dealership up to the corporate ford customer service department with no success.

On october 1, 2011, while pulling into a parking space, going less than a few miles an hour and applying the brake , the car suddenly lurched forward and accelerated on its on - jumped the curb and crashed through the window of a business.

Just starting off from a traffic light the car started to stall. the car was towed to montrose ford where they determined a part in the transmission failed. the part was ordered and replaced a few days later. on the 16th of september while driving the brakes failed. the car was taken to ganley ford on the 19th of sept. they initially determined it was a transmission problem, exactly the same problem that was repaired in august. on the 21st of sept. the maintenance people drove the car with a computer connected to analyze what was happening but found nothing wrong. now they say the problem is hydraulic related but will need to keep the car for at least 30 days to solve the problem. at this time they have no idea what is really wrong. inside the car is an intermittent noise. it can only be heard when just starting out or at very slow speeds. ganley ford has no idea where this noise is coming from.

To begin with i was only having problems when shifting from reverse to forward. i took my car in for the recall and i am still having problems: my car will jerk violently and then slow down to 0. the wrench light comes on and sometimes the transmission light. it has happened going slow as in making a turn, going fast, and going slow in a straight pattern. i have documented the gas because the service tech said it might not be the transmission but something with the fuel. it happens on full, 3/4, half and a quarter of a tank, early morning, after i have driven it for a while. yesterday it happened 4 times in 4 miles each time i have to shut the engine off, which apparently resets it, because the lights will go off, but then come on when it happens again. this car is dangerous to drive, someone is going to be killed. i have advised my family that if i am rear-ended and death occurs to seek legal council. the service people say they can not do anything unless they can get the car to mimic the problem, or something shows up on the computer. meanwhile this is my only means of transportation, i also use my car everyday for business. they have not provided me with an alternate means of transportation yet want to keep my car for 4 days. please do something, there are complaints all over the internet, i am sure you would have more complaints if people knew about you. can you pull ford's service records to get a more accurate record of the magnitude of problems. do something before someone dies.

Engine hesitates from a stop and bucks and jerks while driving. hard pick-up. rpm's up to max without vehicle acceleration. feels like transmission slips into neutral. first visit, 5/18/2010 (8767 miles-bought new at 15 miles-10/10)/ presently, july, 2011, car with 22,000 is in for 4th return to dealer: 10/2010 car 1 year old, 14,000 miles, local oil repair shop notices both lower ball joints boots split, returned to dealer to resolve. still hesitating and jerking and bucking, particularly during gear shifts. second visit, 11/2010 returned for same driving problems. third visit 6/30/11 service shop notices leak under carriage, returned to dealer. service manager and i check under carriage, still obvious leak, he told me it wasn't a leak, we both had grease/oil/something on our hands. refused to extend rental car coverage as car is completely fixed, left with car, wrote on ticket, leak still unresolved. returned for forth visit 7/8/2011 admits leak somewhere. also, sealant around windshield melts and becomes tacky in hot weather (texas). had dealer reseal last summer. now, area is getting tacky again. will this occur each summer and will seal hold during hard rain?

Traveling at high speed with cruise control on. applied brake to slow down for traffic, vehicle continued to slow and would not respond when i applied the accelerator. i had to put the transmission in neutral and had to push gas pedal several times hard before engine would respond. this happened twice while traveling from florida to canada. i had the ford dealership in wetaskiwin, alberta, canada check the vehicle, they could find nothing wrong. i continue to drive the car, but i am fearful that, if it happens again, i could be rear-ended.

As i was passing another vehicle, the vehicle lost power and a warning light illuminated telling me to pull over immediately. luckily i was able to make it to the side of the highway. the codes pulled were p0010, p0201, p0202, p0203, p0204. the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. the issue happened again on 5/30/11 as i was driving on the highway. the same codes as the first incident was found with an additional code of p1a03. again the dealer checked the electrical connections and reassembled. i feel this is a safety issue because when you are driving along on the highway the cars around you do not expect you to dramatically slow down. if you manage to safely make it to the side of the road without being in an accident or causing an accident you still face another safety issue being stuck on the side of the road with traffic going by at 65 mph.

After driving about 1.5 miles from home, my wife came to a set of lights and stepped on the brake to stop. the brake pedal went nearly to the floor and several dash lights came on including the brakes & anti-swerve. the vehicle slowed to a stop as she entered the intersection. fortunately 2 things were in her favor, there was no one ahead of her and there was no cross traffic at the light. either could have resulted in an accident. she drove the vehicle back home since she considered that the brakes had failed and she may not be able to stop the vehicle. she called me. i told her to call the dealership. she left the vehicle running thinking that perhaps as it warmed up it would work and tested it several times over an hour's time in the driveway. she pulled out the car's manual to see if there was anything listed regarding the brake failure. she read in another part of the manual about resetting the car's computer by shutting off the engine. when she restarted the vehicle, the dash lights went out and brakes returned to normal. the dealer said they never heard of this problem and said the earliest they could see the vehicle was 5 days later. we dropped the vehicle off the night before with a description of what was experienced. the dealer said they could not verify the concern and ford does not provide any guidance regarding the issue. i was able to find quite of few instances by simply doing a google search including a video by 'consumer reports' who experienced the exact same problem. ford assured them it was a 'software' issue and claimed that all 2010 fusion hybrid owners would be notified to have the software updated. my car was a newer model 2010 and apparently not under this notification since we did not receive anything from ford. the 'ford customer care' suggested taking the vehicle to another dealer for service who said, there is nothing we can do.

Purchased the ford fusion se 2010 on 8/4/10 drove it 100 miles and on 8/7/10 it was dead in my drive way. called road service and it was jumped and towed to dealership. there two days was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle other than the battery was no good - they replaced the battery. drove it approximately 900 miles and on 9/5/10 it was dead in the driveway again. roadservice came jumped the car and i drove it into the dealership they replaced the battery and asked me to bring the car into service after the weekend. on 9/7/10 at 8am i dropped the car at the dearlership as per their request. i received a call on 9/14/10 from the service department to tell me that they can't resolve the matter and that an engineer is coming out from ford corp to look at the car. not sure what to think at this point maybe i should ask for my money back or another car? also, i have noticed the drivers headrest is really not at all comfortable but that is really the least of my troubles with my new car.

I just bought a 2010 ford fusion. i know now why they only allow you to test drive these cars around the block. the first time i drove it, i got a burning pain down my neck and a piercing headache. the headrest is a wedge with the greatest protrusion hitting the greatest protrusion of the back of your head. no adjustment of the seat or headreat helps. i tried to return the car immediately, but they refused. this weird angle puts your chin down on your chest and your sight line in a hazardous alignment. if there were a wreck, the angle would cause your neck to snap. ford is aware of this, apparently, and has received many complaints, yet does nothing. people are resorting to turning the headreat around, which will not protect against whiplash, or having it bent in a vise, which could allow it to break in a collision. all the fords now have this dangerous torture device, so you cannot change them. help!

On june 19, 2010 a large crack developed in my windshild of my 10 month-old 2010 fusion hybrid. no foreign object struck it. a ford dealership is attempting to attribute the crack to a foreign object with no objective explaination. the crack continued to grow across the entire windshild making the vehicle unsafe to operate.

I was driving a ford fusion that i had rented from hertz in minot, north dakota. i was pulling out of the parking space and luckily had my foot on the brake when the car suddenly accelerated. i had to push down very hard on the brake pedal to keep the car under control. i immediately put the car in park and the acceleration slowed down. i drove the car that day but reported the incident to hertz and urged them to get the car checked. the ford fusion had less than 3000 miles on the odometer so i assume that it was a 2010 model.
