Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. if a vehicle is parked with the parking brake not fully applied and not in first gear, as directed in the owner guide, and the self adjustment pawl subsequently skips one or two teeth, the vehicle could move on some grades.
Consequence SummaryThis could result in unintended vehicle movement and a vehicle crash without prior warning.
Corrective SummaryDealers will modify the parking brake control and install a plate or over-bracket to the control to lock the self adjust mechanism in position following adjustment.
NotesOwner notification began november 28, 2000.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 Emergency parking brake fails to catch when lever is pulled up. would sometimes hear a click & the vehicle would roll backwards. emergency brake lever had released. took vehicle to dealership at least 3 times, & mechanic could not locate the problem each time. emergency brake problem is intermittent. *ak
