When i try to put gas in my car the car will only allow me to put half of a tank in the car and i have to force it to take more which as cause the gasoline to overflow even when the tank is not full. i have taken it to a dealership and told me its a known issue but they could not fix the issue for me. this has happenend in the past but now the car wont let me put more then a half tank everytime. i have tried to go to various gasoline stations all different brands to see if there are any differences but have not had any success.

Ford mustang 2006 - can not put gas in gas tank. will automatically shut off without putting gas in tank -- gas just spills onto your feet -- creating a safety hazard. ford knows of this problem - there is a service bulletin & many complaints. ford says there is no fix. suggests getting gas at different gas station. i have had car to ford service 4 times -- so far spent $300 on supposed fixes. now they say there is no fix. so - i have a car, with 20,000 miles on it, that i can not drive. must stay close to home, just in case i can't get any gas into it. so far have found one gas station where i can put in gas in the car. ford is obviously not working on this problem since it has been known for many years -- the copy of ford service bulletin that i have is dated 2007 -- the service bulletin tsb 07-21-12 - states that the problem can be improved by using a different gas station. this is unacceptable. local ford dealer just shrugs their shoulders and gives me a copy of service bulletin that says there is no fix. tired of having gas slosh onto my feet and the side of the car.

Tl. the contact owns 2005 ford mustang. the contact stated while filling the vehicle with fuel the fuel will spit out of the fuel tank. fuel will spit out onto the contact and ground. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer regarding the fuel tank and the dealer found a restriction blocking the fuel tank vent line. the dealer cleared the vent line. the contact stated the fuel spitting out of the fuel tank could have caused a fire. the failure mileage was 23,450. jo

Cannot easily put gas in tank. this just started occuring after having 80,000 +/- miles on vehicle. the dealer stated that this car had updated (remedy) tank installed during production, because ford knew of problem on 2005s. newer tank worked successfully for many miles. gassing up is now too frustrating to deal with. i've been a ford fan for my entire life, but this might change my mind.

My 2006 mustang has started only allowing 5-9 gallons of gas to be put in when it is warm outside. it starts spiting gas back out of the tank. i get gas all down the side of the car and all over me. this is very dangerous. we can get more gas in at night when it is cooler outside. *tr

2006 mustang 4.0 operated at 68 mph for 22 miles. came to intersection and stopped. accelerated while turning into traffic and vehicle hesitated and engine died. i was nearly hit by tractor trailer rig broadside at 50 + mph. nhtsa and ford motor co. are aware of this defect as per tsb 06-9-9 which advises to replace original fuel pump with 7r3z-9h307-c fuel pump at the expense of the vehicle owner. this is a safety issue not a tsb issue! someone will be killed by this defect! it also is not in safety's interest to expect vehicle owners to spend more than $300.00 out of pocket for this repair when many owners will delay this expense. this defect should definitely be handled as a recall ! *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford mustang. while driving 40 mph, the contact heard a loud pop and the vehicle shut off without warning. the vehicle was unable to be restarted and was towed to the dealer. the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure, but suggested that it could be the inertia switch. no repairs were made. four days later, the failure recurred. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure once more. the dealer informed the contact to depress the inertia switch when the failure occurs. approximately two months later, the vehicle failed to start. the contact depressed the inertia switch, but the vehicle still would not start. the vehicle eventually started about an hour later. the dealer has not diagnosed the failure as of june 14, 2007. the current mileage is 9,800 and failure mileage was 6,500.

Dt*: the contact stated while refueling at various gas stations, the pump shuts off or fuel spilled out onto the vehicle. the dealership determined there was a tsb that suggested a different gas station to be used to fill the tank.

Since the purchase of a 2006 mustang gt i have experienced trouble in filling the gas tank. after so much gas has entered the tank the gas starts to spew back out all over the side of the vehicle. to me this creates a potential fire hazard if the gas were to spew back onto the person fueling the car. i have read other complaints to i know that i am not the only one experiencing this problem. i believe there should be some kind of recall and ford should buy back all of these vehicles that aren't safe to fuel. no vehicle is safe to drive due to other humans on the road and sometimes factory error but there is no reason to not feel safe to fuel your vehicle. *jb
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - DELIVERY

When fueling my 2006 mustang, i find it hard to fill the gas tank completely. i don't have a problem until it is over 1/2 tank. dealership assures me that nothing can be done to fix this. this is a design flaw with the saddlebag portion of the fuel tank. also, i had to put a new clutch in my car at 17,000 miles. i had the maintenance package so ford had to pick up the tab for this repair. i also have the extended warranty so i was able to get a loaner but i seem to be driving a ford focus allot since i bought my car. this will be an expensive car if i have to put a clutch in every 17,000 miles or so. i also had the right front suspension arm replaced at 19,000 miles. at this time i am having problems with the ignition starter sticking and causing a scratching noise when i start my car. this happens mainly in the morning when it's cold so i'm having a hard time convincing the dealership that the starter is bad but i will continue to have it looked at until i get results. other smaller issues like trunk light had to be replaced, stick shift lever had to be reglued have occurred. i wanted a mustang since i was 16 years old and this has been somewhat of a disappointing new car. *tr

During idle speed, car shuts off below 1,000 rpms and has to be re-started. during startup, car does not crank until about the third time it is turned over. thought at first that this was due to bad gas. so i finished running tank out with heet, filled it up with gas from a different company and it is still doing the same thing. it is not gas. it does tie into the delivery of the fuel or the ignition of the car with is possibly a sensor problem. there are sensors that are not tied into the computer and relays and do not show up with the check service light. this same problem happened last month, but then re-occurred during this month more than once and the most recent was yesterday, 10/06/06. it is only getting worse. something is wrong with the engine or the sensors. i have given the service department various ideas, since the engine light is not on, as to what could be causing it. they told me that if there was no light on in the car then it was my problem because they need a service engine light on in the car. it is not the gas that i have put in my car. i run 87 octane from shell. i have never had a problem with gas from shell. also, the fuel gauge system in the car sticks and shows empty and bounces from empty to full to half-full for my tank and the miles per empty gauge on my display meter jumped from 5 miles to empty to 300 miles to empty down to 150 miles to empty. *nm

I was stopped at a light when my wrench light came on. i tried to drive but my vehicle was jerking really bad. i prayed driving down the access road that i would just make it to the dealership 10 miles away. i pulled in shut the vehicle off. they kept my car overnight and when i picked it up the next day they could not find anything wrong with it and when they turned it on no wrench light. one week later, my car did this again...except this time i left my vehicle on so they could see the wrench light. they replaced the fuel pump...faulty. only had 20,000 miles on my 2006 mustang v6. now it is nov. and my manual transmission is gone. after owning 6 standard vehicles this is the first time i have ever had a clutch go out. dealership said i got the last part in the us...backordered till march 2008. i have since gone to pick up my vehicle 2 times...first time we stood in line to be told that they had test driven it again and they had to re-do the job. went to pick it up last night and almost got stranded with my two kids because it was not drivable. first it was stuck in 1st gear...had to turn the car completely off to put it in neutral. so then i tried to put it in first and no luck. then i tried one last time got it to move about 20 yards forward before i noticed there was a loud clunking noise coming from under the hood. this was at 9pm...called this morning at 11am and was told my car was ready and it was the starter. yeah right. got one invoice last night only need two more before they buy my lemon back!! wish me luck! *tr

Have had this car in the shop two times previously. one because the fuel pump was bad, the second because there was a throttle variance and a variance in the transmission and the wrench came on in the vehicle then disappeared. this was checked and supposedly nothing was wrong with the car, because the wrench light was off and never came back on. on saturday dec. 16, 2006 there was another transmission variance and throttle variance with the car. today, monday dec. 18, 2006 on my way to work, the engine light flashed on and off then disappeared. *jb

Potential fire hazard. can not fuel vehicle. after approximately 1/2 tank, gas station fuel nozzle shut off. tried slightly engaging nozzle, and continued to shut off. after multiple tries and multiple gas stations, could fill tank to 3/4 tank, then shut off recurred. will no longer accept fuel. fuel spillage occurred on almost all shut off incidents, no matter what pressure fuel was transferred at (by regulating handle). after research on internet, found many other owners complaining of same issue (see allfordmustang.com's 2005+ forums) with some having resolve after tank and / or filler tube /vent replacement. tried their suggestion of placing nozzle in different directions did not help. also reference ford service bulletin 06313 (nhtsa item number 10019387) taking to dealership tomorrow. not the first occurrence on this vehicle. has shut off before prematurely, but has always restarted with no spillage / recurring. vehicle only has 1200 miles on it. *jb
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE

Cannot fill fuel tank more than 1/2 full. this has been an ongoing problem since beginning of ownership. 4 trips to the dealership including tank, filler neck & sender replacement has not resolved the problem. as an experienced auto technician of 27 years i inspected the design of the fuel tank and determined that the saddlebag design is flawed at the top and center, where that section is only about 5 mm thick and is higher than the top left and right sides, not allowing fuel to flow into the righthand side. i have an appoint with the ford dealership in ft pierce on monday, november 19th, 2007. at that time i intend to relay my opinion on this matter, however i'm not expecting a satisfactory answer from them. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated while putting fuel in the vehicle the fuel nozzle must be held in a certain position to obtain a correct reading from the fuel gauge. before putting fuel into the vehicle the fuel gauge read half a tank, while attempting to put fuel into the vehicle it showed full. the vehicle was taken to the dealership, they replaced the storage tank. however, this did not correct the problem.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford mustang. whenever the fuel tank was being filled, gasoline would spill out. the tank was not filled to capacity. the fuel nozzle stopped when the tank was half full, but gasoline still sprayed out of the tank. there were no prior warnings to this failure. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that this was a manufacturer design defect. the manufacturer is aware of the failure and engineers are conducting an evaluation. there is currently no remedy for the malfunction. the failure mileage was 1,000 and current mileage was 25,000. updated 11/12/08 *bf updated 11/13/08. *jb

2006 ford mustang with gas filling problems**cc the vehicle no longer allows the correct flow of gas into the tank. when the gas hose and nozzle are inserted into the tank for filling, the gas would stop at less than 10 gallons and the handle on the gas hose would no longer engage. the dealer was able to duplicate the problem, but they didn't offer a fix for it. the dealer suggested inserting the gas nozzle at a sideways or upside-down angle in order to fill the tank. the consumer stated he tried that in past, which resulted in gasoline spilling. *jb

2006 mustang gt built jan 2006 has problems during fueling operations. unable to get more than 1/2 to 3/4 full tank due to fuel pump cut-off. most likely cause is defective design of saddlebag fuel tank and inadequate tank vent. this vehicle is equipped with the revised fuel system which has been subject to the same problems reported with the earlier design. this problem greatly diminishes enjoyment of vehicle and decreases the value as the car has a known problem. *jb

My 2006 mustang was just taken in to the dealer for a problem with the gas tank. i have never been able to fill the tank without difficulty. the first few months i owned the vehicle i had to force gas into my tank because it would not fill completely. the nozzle would continually shut off and not fully fill the tank. at this point the problem has changed and now the nozzle will not shut off and it over flows *every* time i fill up. the dealer has recommends that i try different gas stations until i find one that i don't have a problem filling the tank at. this is not a fix and it is not convenient however i have tried all the ford recommended gas stations bp, shell, amoco etc. this has not fixed the problem and the gas tank filling problem is an on going issue. not only is this environmentally unsound but it is also dangerous and considering the cost of gas it is also expensive for me. i was told that there is no fix for my vehicle because my vehicle already has the revised design gas tank, however the problem i have still persists. *jb

When filing gas tank with the fuel nozzle set for fast delivery, the gas overflows onto the car. it does not trigger the automatic shutoff on the fuel nozzle. dealer indicated that this is the new tank design which consists of two chambers. the rightmost chamber fills first and then overflows into the second chamber. this has occurred at several different gas suppliers, different brands, and even different states. the only way to guarantee that there will not be overflow onto the car is to check the gallons used and slow down the flow so that the nozzle trigger gets tripped. dealer has no fix for the problem at this time. *jb

I recently purchased a 2006 mustang and on the two occasions i have had to put gas in the tank, both times prior to the pump discharge shutting off, fuel has spewed out of the filler neck and down the side of the car. i have used two different stations with the same results. i also talked to a coworker who owns a 2005 mustang and he has the same problem, and only avoids the problem by putting in a few dollars worth of gas at a time. never filling up. i'm worried that my daughter who frequently drives the car, could be placed in a bad situation should a fire break out. especially when it gets warmer outside. *nm
01/10/20063800109/30/2005
Dt*: the contact stated when attempting to fill the gas tank with gasoline, and once the tank is half full, the gas will back up through the filler neck and spill out of the spout onto the vehicle. this is intermittent in nature. the vehicle has been seen by a dealer. the dealer determined the filler neck was functioning normal. however, the service department instructed the contact to use a different gas station that offered a different type of gas pump nozzle. the dealer's service department suspected the gas pump was forcing the gasoline into the tank at a high rate which resulted in the leak. the contact did as instructed by the dealer, but when attempting to fill the tank, the same problem occurred. *ak

On 5/18/06 i drove from branson, mo to kansas city, mo. i stayed in kansas city till sunday only doing in town driving the four days three nights i was there. during the trip home sunday mid-day i was averaging between 65 and 70 mph on the highway. after about 45 minutes into the drive home i approached a stop light. after about a 45 second stop at the light i went to accelerate. as i shifted into second gear the car drove normal for about 35-40 seconds, suddenly lost power then jolted forward. i encountered this sporadic jolting four times during my drive home. twice in second gear and twice in fourth. three out of four time nearly causing an accident. this seems to be a recurring problem with these particular vehicles according to my personal research. i don't feel as though these vehicles are safe to drive under any circumstance. the ford mustang was my dream car since i was a little girl and it has turned into my worst nightmare. this vehicle has put me in life threatening situations more than 3 times already. *jb
