Defect SummaryThe parking brake control self-adjust pawl does not line up properly with the self-adjust rachet causing the pawl to slip over one or more teeth in the rachet.
Consequence SummaryWhen the above occurs, it can result in parking brake system ineffectiveness. the parking brake will not hold the vehicle, causing the vehicle to roll freely, if the transmission is not left in gear.
Corrective SummaryA wedge will be installed which will serve to lock the parking brake self-adjust mechanism pawl into engagement with the rachet. also, owners will be advised to release and reapply the parking brake whenever tooth skip occurs and will be reminded to always turn off the engine and leave the vehicle in gear when the vehicle is parked.

I never received any recall notification on nhtsa campaign id number 06e026000. the wedge alluded to in nhtsa recall was installed on the truck and did not solve the problem. the emergency brake would still not lock into place, and now did not work at all. *ak

Dt: a recall wa sissued but this vehicle was not included due to vin. when applying emergency brake it didn't work and it allowed the vehicle to roll freely. this was for a manuel transmission when parking on a hill. had to leave the gear and turn the wheels depending on which way parked. and hope of course it wouldn't roll into another vehicle. this recently happened on july 25, 2005. *ak

The parking brake has continually failed to engage and slips when attempting to engage the brake foot pedal. it was worked on previously when the truck was still under warranty. noticing the nhtsa site this apparently is a problem with all rangers. i believe a wedge was put in my truck at gateway lincoln-mercury, but this has not solved the problem.

On 1-20-04, i started my vehicle to warm up. i had the emergency brake engaged. however, the emergency brake system failed and the vehicle rolled down my driveway, into my neighbors driveway, and hit their trailer and garage, causing damage to their property and my vehicle. after investigating, i have found that there had been a recall on my vehicle for the emergency brakes, for the same problem that caused my vehicle emergency brake system to fail. however i had never received notification of the recall. in fact, as of the date i am filing this complaint, i called ford dealership in owensboro, ky and was told by an employee in the service department that there were not any recalls on ford rangers that they were aware. *ak

Brake booster installing mechanic did not refill master cylinder reservoir. *ak consumer went to dealer for recalls 94s91 and 96s35, regarding parking brake and cruise control, consumer states on the way home after repairs the emergency brake warning light illuminated, consumer was able to turn it off by pulling the brake release knob, within a mile it came back on and would not go off without pulling up on the emergency brake pedal, to keep the light off it was necessary to drive with one foot under the emergency brake pedal, later that evening consumer applied to emergency brake and it would not release, consumer found a plastic wedge crosswise in the emergency brake mechanism, next morning consumer found the brake master cylinder was out of fluid and the throttle and cruise control cables were out of their guides, later consumer attempted to set cruise control and it would not work, all these failures occurred only after 20 miles after recall repairs were completed. *slc

The rear brake cable goes though a oblong hole in the frame. in my 1993 ford ranger the oblong hole edge is now razor sharpe. this can cause a fatique crack leading to frame failure. i used rtv to try to keep the cable away from the edge of the hole. the frame hole is now too sharp for me to mess with. i do not want to get cut. about 1995 i called ford and ask about a new cable. i was told no deal.*ak
