1994 ford ranger, has a cracked fuel filler hose that causes fuel to spill out when filling the tank, during warm weather you can get to 3/4 of a tank before fuel spillage starts, in winter just a little over 1/2 tank. when i approached the dealer about getting parts to repair i was told they are on backorder. his comment to me was there are 2 types of rangers out there, those that leak and those that have been fixed. in other words this is a known issue ford has with the rangers that they are choosing to ignore. in checking other sources it seems to be rangers from at least 1993 - 2009 have this issue.

1994 ranger xlt. was filling fuel tank when fuel began leaking from under side of truck. stopped filling process immediately and when i inspected the leak, i found that the fuel was coming form the clamp area of the filler hose. checked prices of replacements and opted to do self repair using metal duct tape. repair has held for 3-4 years. i've never experienced this on another vehicle. *tr

Third complaint regarding fuel filler hose assembly on 1994 ford ranger. failure of hose assembly has been at the same place on all three genuine ford parts. after the beating they are giving toyota with 100 complaints, it seems that someone would act on our behalf. i cannot afford to repair again so will seek alternatives such as fabricating my own, bet it wont leak then. *tr

Fuel filler neck has split at the tank connection bend. fuel leaks profusely out of this split when tank is filled. when the tank reaches full capacity, the fuel filler outer hose fills up partially. the fuel in the outer hose then leaks out onto the tank and ground. i am repeating this claim for 2 separate vehicles, a '93 and a '94. *tr

1994 ford ranger extended cab pickup 4.0 l v6 engine current mileage 65,000. mileage at failure 63,000. the fuel filler hose from the fuel filler neck to the fuel tank developed cracks that allowed fuel to spill on the ground when the vehicle was refilled. odor of fuel is always present when vehicle is stopped. took the truck to local service shop for replacement of filler hose. hose is not available from dealer and cost of part was excessive if it were available. repair shop made temporary repair by applying sealant to fuel filler hose until part becomes available. *tr

1994 ranger pick-up failed smog test due to a break in the gas tank filler assembly. smog specialist said all rangers mfgd between 1989 and 1997 were failing smog pressure tank. fact verified by my mechanic. cost of repair $600. ford should recall these vehicles to effect replacement of the defective part. *tr

No event led to premature failure unless you consider the emissions test , the failure is of the filler neck assembly on the gas tank, a crack occurs, then leaking ,dripping, and constant fumes, this has occurred twice on my truck and many trucks of the same model. corrected the problem with a replacement assembly, the 2nd time,i attempted to seal the assembly, which held for awhile but has also failed..yes the old part is available ,as for the radiator fan, its plastic and breaks from heat every year, i have replaced it more times than i can remember, yes the old part is available. *tr

Gasoline leaked onto the ground once the vehicle was full to capacity because the outer gasoline hose failed. the hose had completely deteriorated. the manufacturer stated they would report it to the engineering unit. *ak the fuel filler is a hose inside a hose. the inner hose goes directly to the gas tank while the outer hose clamps to the top of the tank and contains and overflow. the consumer feels that the outer hose is not fuel resistant therefore over time it deteriorates. *nm

Fuel filler hose assembly has failed twice on 1994 ford ranger pickup. first hose assembly failed at 73,000 miles on may 5, 2001 causing large amounts of fuel to spill when filling the tank and when driving. the replacement hose assembly failed again after 55,000 miles on it on march 3, 2006. this failure was at the exact same place on the hose and also caused large amounts of fuel to spill when filling tank and when driving. first hose was replaced by a ford dealership at a cost to me of $650 and the 2nd hose replaced by an independent shop at a cost of $480. both times, i paid for the replacements. the replacement hoses were all genuine ford products. these hose appear to be defective in manufacture since both failures are in the exact same place on them. ford refuses to discuss the matter of defective hoses and the extreme fire danger they pose. i have the most recently replaced cracked hose. *nm

I own a 1994 ford ranger with the 4.0l v6 engine. for the last few months i have not been able to fill my gas tank safely. if i fill the tank completely gasoline spills from the place where the tank meets the inlet tube. the inlet tube, which should be engineered to handle gasoline, is cracked due to insufficient construction. this defect is a danger to ranger owners due to the leaking of flammable gasoline. the price for a replacement tube from the dealer is astronomical. the dealership told me that they get a lot of rangers in with that exact problem. i spoke to ford on the phone, and they basically told me, too bad. this defect seems to be evident in years 93-94. i have spoken to many other ranger owners and they have expressed that the same defect exists in their trucks. it is only a matter of time before injury or death is experienced.*ak

The fuel filler hose has cracked on my 1994 ford ranger. the hose is ver hard and brittle and has cracked where it makes a bend into the tank. when i fill the tank a large quantity of gas spils on the ground before the pump kicks out. i was simply goung to replace the hose but ford will not sell me just the hose they want to sell me the entire filler assembly for about $ 300. this is outrages to have to pay this much for a hose that failed due to a poor design.

The left front seat belt failed to work properly. the seat belts would not latch or release on their own. driver was filling up at the gas station and without warning gasoline poured out onto the ground. driver took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the filler neck and the seat belts needed to be replaced. *ak

I am being charged $1100.00, by south bay ford, for 2 repairs (both saftey related) that i believe ford should be liable for. 1) when i fill the gas tank, on my vehicle, to the top i get a large quantity of gas leaking on the ground. it appears the coupling between the filler neck and the tank is the problem. 2) the driver side seat belt latch would either not latch or would not release easily. the last time i actually had to cut the belt in order to exit the vehicle. after a small amount of research, on this site, i found other complaints for the same 2 problems on my model of vehicle. *ak

I bought my 1994 ranger used. i noticed the gas gauge did not work. repairs require the removal of the gas tank, and/or truck bed. in researching this problem i discovered that is a pervasive issue with these vehicles and that the problem is created by pin holes developing in the float, causing it to fill with fuel and sink, thereby giving a false empty signal. this requires one to calculate a rough estimate of remaining fuel based on fuel efficiency, which is not a constant factor. the danger is that one might run out of fuel without adequate warning, causing an unexpected loss of power to the brake and steering systems. *jb
