Running boards are unsafe. they are located too far under the vehicle, making them very awkward and dangerous to use, forcing the occupant to twist their ankle to enter the vehicle. when exiting the vehicle, they are not visible from the interior, forcing the occupant to guess where they are, which makes them useless and dangerous. because the steps are not visible from inside the vehicle, small children can easily miss the step and fall from the vehicle. *ak

The frame near my back wheels is completely rusted out and there is now a big crack on both sides of the frame. the rust amounts are excessive, and in my opinion seem to be a failure in design of the frame. the truck has only 105,000 miles on it and the frame in that section of the car has serious rust while the rest of the car looks good. all of the connections in the back have a lot of rust, more than can be attributed to poor maintenance. if i hadn't seen this crack developing in the frame a serious accident could have resulted. i feel ford should be held accountable for a faulty product

Left side of frame rail rusted through to the point frame is almost broke in half on left rear portion just ahead of rear axle. sway arm was also connected to this part of frame. large portion of frame rail is missing, (approximately 6x6) which has rendered truck useless & unsafe to drive. last year both rear spring shackles had to be replaced or rear axle was going to fall out. until now this vehicle was in excellent condition.

I feel that my ford ranger is an unsafe vehicle. i have had many problems with it since i bought it brand new. everything stemming from holes in the floor to a faulty transmission and engine among faulty power windows and electrical on more than one occasion.. i just wonder what is next. i am worried about the future of this vehicle especially with its past track record. please send me any information that may be of help to get ford to buy my vehicle back. my email is jennetic@aol.com or sacroxx1@aol.com.

I noticed that there was a recall of the 2001 ford ranger for the very same problem my truck seeme to have. nhtsa#:00v394000. i was driving when the hood snapped open. i could have very easily been in a head-on collision when my entire view was blocked with the hood. i have taken some pictures of the hood area if they are needed. the repair shop said that one of the screws came loose at some point in time and with the vibration. the wire formed hood striker snapped from metal fatigue. anyway this whole ordeal is costing me about $1300 not mentioned that i could have been killed. mr

1999 ford ranger 95,000 miles would not pass pa. state inspection because severe frame rot at rear spring hangers and frame crossmember rot above rear of gas tank and crossmember rot at rear of frame. crossmember above tank as replaced with a used one because ford does not sell new ones. the rest of the frame rot was plated and welded. the truck will need more frame rot repair for next state inspection. ford should buy these trucks back like toyota did.

The shackle on the left rear spring totally broke off of vehicle. the shackle on the right side is almost totally detached. there is no way to attach new shackles because the truck frame is totally rotted away. also much to my amazement the spare tire which was suspended underneath the pickup bed is gone. where it was attached is all rotted away so at some point it just fell off when we were driving, don't know where or when. today i talked to the service dept of the ford dealer where the truck was purchased and ford is not doing anything about this. they said we have this problem with shackles all the time. they rust out. my mechanic, who discovered the problem said he see this a lot on all models of fords pickups. my brother in law has a toyota tacoma pickup which just failed a safety inspection because of a rotted frame. toyota is replacing his frame free of charge. i feel that is what ford should be forced to do. i thank god the other shackle didn't give way while my wife was driving it on the highway and have a serious accident.

No accident. i have a 1999 ford ranger that was making strange noises from the bed. my husband and brother-in-law investigated and one jumped on the bed while the other looked under the truck. he noticed that the frame is completely rusted through on one side and almost all the way through on the other side. that was two years ago and the truck remains parked in the side yard.

 1. normal driving. the rear of the frame from before the rear shackle to the bumper is rotted. 2. the frame is rotted and now is unsafe to drive due to the suspension components being compromised. 3. i have had the frame repaired at a shop, the rest of the body has no rust on it at all, the engine runs great, interior has held up nice, but the frame rotted out.

Tl-the contact owns a 1999 ford ranger. the contact noticed his rear bumper was hanging halfway off. upon examining the vehicle he noticed the frame underneath the vehicle was severely rusted. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed he would have to pay for the repairs and the rusting was most likely due to the salting of the roads during the winter. the vehicle was not serviced. the failure and current mileages were 68,800. sm.

1999 ford ranger, frame rusted so bad that my mechanic says not safe to drive and will not work on it. i have welded the frame in two places. what is upsetting is that there is no rust holes in the bed or body. the frame should not be disintegrating before other parts rust. *tr

We have a 99 ford ranger bought brand new. it is in mint condition and has only approx. 80,000 miles on it. we just noticed that the frame was cracked and ready to split in half. we contacted ford motor co., they said there was nothing they could do about it that the warranty was over. they wouldn't even look at the vehicle. this vehicle has a defective frame and if, it was not noticed, we could have been killed. this is a safety issue and there may be more vehicles out there that could have the same problem. there was no accident, but there could have been if it wasn't noticed. *tr
