Ford has an active recall, begun about 3 months ago, but doesn't have the parts available to fix this problem. at the very least this is extremely poor customer service, at the worst it is fraud - depriving me of the vehicle i originally paid for! this is the recall for cruise control, a feature i use frequently and specifically bought with this model. ford knew they had a problem and they would need the parts to fix it - why don't they have it, or have responsibility for compensating for failing to have it? *tr

1999 ford ranger sport truck 4 cyl 5 speed stick power steering , brakes, air conditioning , cruise control. once in a while it will accelerate by itself. with foot off of the pedal it will keep accelerating . then it will gradually come back down in speed. i can never tell how long it will last. usually it is a matter of 10-15 seconds it can happen whether the vehicle is hot or cold. it seems to accelerate up to about highway rpms 2500-3000 . it can be a little nerve wrecking. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle suddenly accelerated rapidly while attempting to slow down. the vehicle's engine revved suddenly without warning. the transmission was placed in the neutral position in order to prevent from hitting the vehicle in front. the dealership determined this was a common problem with this vehicle and was caused by faulty wiring chafing from the wiring harness.

Ford has a technical service bulletin that describes the high idle condition when depressing clutch or shifting gears for the ranger. this should be reevaluated for recall action as the throttle position sensor will remain at high rpm while in nuetral unless you place the vehicle back in gear. you can pull up on the accelerator or push it further down in attempt to get it to return to idle but all that does it make the condition worse (high idle is one thing but an engine racing with throttle position sensor thinking accelarator is pushed way down is another). this condition is caused by a poor electrical connection at the wire harness to throttle position sensor. it is a safety recall issue vice a technical service issue.*ak

I have a recall on a ford ranger 1999 pickup for the speed control. the recall notice was sent to me in august. the part is still unavailable at my local dealer - bitterroot motors and when i call the ford hotline, they also say the part will be unavailable until may or later. i think if this is a safety issue, they should be required to deal with the recall a little sooner than 10 months after they issue the recall. now it is my responsibility to keep calling the ford dealer to find out when i can schedule a repair. they don't keep a list to contact me when they get the part in. *tr
