Abs light had been turning on and off for weeks and brakes had not been functioning properly. then light was on all the time. at intersections i would apply the brakes and they would barely stop the truck. once it was stopped the truck would then suddenly roll forward again even with brake pedal pressed to floor. front and back pads were replaced by my mechanic. problem still occurred, especially when going down hill. took it back to my mechanic and was advised to take it to the dealership since it was not the brake pads and was still under warranty. rude service rep at dealership went with me for a test drive, said he could not verify my complaint even though the abs light was on for the whole ride. he claimed my mechanic had screwed something up, said the intermittant brake failure was all in my imagination, etc. but since it was a safety issue he would do further diagnostics. two and a half weeks later after bad customer service the truck's non-existant brake problem turned out to be water collecting under the driver's side seat and rusting out a sensor for the abs system. entire abs system replaced. problems solved for now but what about when it rusts out again? why had water collected there? i do not drive in rivers or lakes. it would have cost me $2500 in parts and labor if it had not been under warranty. dt

2000 ford ranger brake line failure -- the right-rear brake line ruptured. this is the second brake line rupture in a little over 1 year. the first rupture was with the left-rear brake line in march 2007. the cost of the repair was $295.00. the second rupture occurred on july 2, 2008. this repair has not been performed as yet. both ruptures occurred without warning and during an attempt to apply the brakes. upon applying the brakes, the pedal went spongy, and both the brake warning light and abs warning light came on. the vehicle did eventually stop. fortunately, there where no other vehicles or pedestrians in front of me. upon initial inspection, the brake line was leaking fluid and the master brake cylinder reservoir was below half full. a closer inspection revealed that the brake line had rusted through near the fittings. this vehicle has approximately 34,000 miles and is driven infrequently. *tr

Driving 60mph on interstate pheasant flew low in front of verhicle, as the pheasant disapeared in from my view the truck did an abrupt swirve to the left, i had no steering control, the truck went from the right lane accross passing lane and hit head on into flat concrete berrier, the air bags did not deploy, over $9,000 in damage including new frame. when the truck was being hoisted onto rollback i noticed that the tie rod was hanging. the yoke where the tie rod is bolted to (cast iron) was broken off and i noticed a lot of pheasant remains on the tierod and suspension. i am very concerned that a small bird as this would cause the cast iron yoke to break, also why my airbags did not deploy. the front tire and rim did not impact the concrete berrier. when i saw the pheasant i did not react to it, i did not turn the wheel or hit the brakes, this may sound funny but the truck swirved left dirrectly into the berrier. the seat belt saved me from serious injury. my main concern is the pc that the tie rod mounts to and no air bag deployment *ak
