Spare tire mount fell off truck going 50 mph. could have killed some one. mounts were totally rusted off. since then have had to weld frame several times to pass inspection. frame is not going to pass again this year on a truck with great engine, tires, brakes, etc. land fill here we come. something was very wrong with the steel used in this frame. there is nothing left.

Brought truck into service center for noise in front. raised truck to inspect---- complete undercariage rusted beyond belief, front to rear bolts, nuts, brackets, frame, shocks, etc. main concern is frame, brake lines --- had to have rear leaf spring support and bracket replaced because it was ready to break. had shocks replaced because they looked like they could bust at any time. this is a truck with less than 32,000 miles --- body still looks great but underneath is questionable is there a recall or something i can fall back on ????

While driving 25 mph the fiber glass cap that covers the pick up bed flipped up in the front, causing the hydraulic pistons to break free and fling into the road. this incident caused the cover to split straight down the middle. dealer and the manufacturer had been notified of the problem. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford ranger. while driving approximately 25 mph on normal road conditions, there was a loud noise coming from the exterior of the vehicle. suddenly, the spare tire well detached from its frame and onto the road. a replacement spare tire well was installed at a local repair shop. the vehicle was later taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the frame exhibited severe rust and corrosion. thus causing defects in the fuel tank strap and transmission cross beam. the brake line and shackles were also damaged. the vehicle was not repaired when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was unknown.

My son was traveling on a 4 lane state hwy at about 65 mph in the outside lane when the driver's side back tire flew off. he said all he remembers was that the trucks rear dropped on that side, spinning the truck to face the opposite direction, and causing it to rollover numerous times until it landed in the ditch on the opposite side of the hwy. not to mention it had to go up and embankment to get there. he could have been killed or seriously injured. dps , wrecker driver, my husband and my son could not find the tire, which still has the brake drum on it. upon inspection it was noted that left rear axle broke behind the flange where the lug nuts go. i am told this must be a defect because you rarely hear this happening. dps and wrecker driver stated that vehicle had good tires and looked as though it had been well taken care of. it is a 2002 ford ranger edge. *tr

A loud thunk, rear driver's side dropped, immediate stop at mechanic's shop, extensive frame rust and riveted construction of shackle bracket hangers and shackle bracket had caused the shackle bracket hanger to break from the frame. the spring was shoved up against the truck's bed. at highway speed this could have been deadly. mechanic said both shackle bracket hangers and shackle brackets would need replacement with probably new metal welded to the frame to ensure the new shackle bracket hangers would be stable. also, mechanic stated the frame was rusted to a greater degree than usual even for new england. with 107000 miles, this should be unacceptable for us. there are accidents and deaths waiting to happen. there has to be something done. more to come once i go to the welding shop today (8/1/2013). read online ranger forums to see how prevalent this frame rot issue is. *tr
