Defect Summary | Vehicle description: vehicles equipped with 3.8l engines and originally sold or currently registered in the following states: alaska, colorado, iowa, idaho, illinois, indiana, kansas, massachusetts, maine, michigan, minnesota, missouri, montana, north dakota, nebraska, new hampshire, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, south dakota, vermont, wisconsin, and wyoming. water can accumulate within the speed control cable conduit. if enough water accumulates, it could freeze within a low area of the cable routing when exposed to a long term cold soak at temperatures at least several degrees below freezing. | |||||||||||||||
Consequence Summary | Driver control of vehicle speed using the speed control system or the accelerator control system would be diminished increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. | |||||||||||||||
Corrective Summary | Dealers will add a boot to the speed control cable. | |||||||||||||||

My rear brake system keeps coming apart. this first happened while driving at 55 m.p.h. and i had to brake suddenly. i had to drive around vehicle in front of me to avoud a crash, i had a mechanic put them back together but the problem keeps persisting even though i have had the brake system completely redone. the problem with my cruise control is that when i use it and set it the car will go that speed and after a while will increase the speed on it's own.i have almost gotten a ticket because of this and since everytime i use it this happens i have stopped using the cruise control.*ak | |||

While starting vehicle white smoke was coming out of tailpipe. heard popping noise, also water and antifreeze was coming from tailpipe. took vehicle to dealer, and dealer indicated engine head gaskets were blown.*ak blower fan blade had to be replaced. on several occasions, the starter had to be replaced. customer states temperature gauge goes up, low on water and loosing coolant. dealer replaced radiator, water pump and serpentine belt. brakes are grinding. dealer replaced front brakes had turned rotors. on one occasion, the throttle positioning sensor had to be replaced. *tt | |||

Cruise control locked up when car was being stopped...car was full throttle in all gears, and reponded to nothing to drop, and could not be held stopped by the brakes. disconnecting the cruise control linkage to the throttle solved the problem. *ak |
