98V323000FORD MOTOR COMPANYfrom 10/14/1985 to 06/27/1995V (Vehicle)269700001/18/1999ODIFORD MOTOR COMPANY12/16/199812/18/1998
Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles originally sold or currently registered in connecticut, delaware, district of columbia, illinois, indiana, iowa, kansas, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, nebraska, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virgnia, and wisconsin. the rear lower subframe mount plate nut can experience stress corrosion cracking if subjected to long term exposure to road salts. this can result in fracture and loss of the structural integrity of the subframe mount attachment. detachment of the body mounts at the rear corners of the subframe, which supports the engine and transmission, allows the rear corners of the subframe to drop.
Consequence SummaryIf both rear corners drop, steering would become suddenly very difficult, affecting vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install subframe rear mount bolts, reinforcement plates, and plate nuts.
NotesNote:this recall campaign supercedes recall campaign 93v-106.owner notification is expected to begin january 18, 1999.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

The bottom of both front doors is made to project towards the passenger compartment instead of being squared like all other cars. when opening either front door, the aforementioned door projection hits me in the front of the leg unless i stand a far distance away. on 3/1/01 and3/5/01 i sustained lacerations on my leg because of this idiotic and hazardous door design. please require ford to fix this. *ak

I brought my car to sarasota ford on fri. sept. 8, 2000 to diagnose a fuel odor, clicking in the front end, and an a/c problem. ford replaced the a/c by removing the dash. after working on it friday, all day saturday (even after closing), and monday, it was ready early afternoon, sept. 11. i did not hear from ford, so called i myself to pick around 12::40 pm to pick up the car. i paid for the repairs and got into my car, only to notice the seat adjustment not working right. i didn't say anything then because i also noticed the air bag light going on and off. a mechanic standing nearby helped me by locating dan white, the service writer for my car (and asst. service manager). dan walked to my car to answer my questions about the light being on. he explained that 'he' (i assumed, the mechanic) didn't notice the light at first, but noticed it later. he explained that the airbag module had been all taped up and that's why the light was on. i informed him that made no sense to me and asked why he had not informed me. he told me he didn't tell me because he assumed i had been in an accident, or taped it up myself. i emphatically informed dan that was not the case!! i confirmed with dan at that time his statement to me that 'he' (the mechanic) didn't notice the air bag indicator light at first, only later. he told me that the mechanic thought maybe he short circuted something and went to check and found the module had been taped. i find it peculiar that dan white did not inform me about the situation until i asked him about it when i was in my car, ready to drive off after picking it up at the dealership. dan said he did not inform me because he . i arrived home, i also discovered the seat adjustment was not working at all and the electric door locks no longer worked. i find it also peculiar that these electrical items (including the airbag indicator light) were all working when i brought my car to have the ac repaired!! is a repair facility required t

In july of 2000 i had recall work done on my car, a 1993 ford taurus. the recall was to prevent a catastrophic failure of the engine sub frame. the recall was tsb #98s36. on july 15, 2004 i experienced that major failure of the engine sub frame, loosing control of the vehicle. this loss of control was due to the subframe plate corrosion that was supposed to be prevented by the recall 98s36. i got the vehicle to a local ford dealer (greenway ford, orlando fl.). they refused to honor the recall because it had been done once. i called ford customer service with no results. it is my understanding that a recall for a corroding plate should be a one time permanet fix. if recall work cannot be done twice, then a second recall is in order. *ak

This car has been in for recall work more than half a dozen times. the motor mounts have broken twice, the air-conditioning has been replaced twice, the head gasket and serpentine belt have blown, and the cooling fan is still not operating properly. the windshield wipers are not operating proper.ly, and the car does not steer properly. when i called the dealership - they said ford is not responsible for repairs after the warrenty period. the dealer told me i have the same engine design as the 94 and 95 taurus. why will ford not accept responsibility for the repair of this obviously inadequate design? the repair bills on this vehicle have been prohibitive, and this is not a cheap car! *ak
