Car stalled on freeway then when finally got it started and exited freeway at the very next exit, car stalled again. this time when the car started it also caught on fire underneath the hood. pulled into very first parking lot (approx 100ft) car stalled again but by now was completely engulfed in flames under the hood. i exited vehicle immediately and called fire dept. car was a complete loss. several weeks to a month after loss of car, i received a recall notice for the car. apparently there was a defective engine cooling fan that could cause a fire underneath the hood. my car is gone. what do i do? ford is responsible. how do i get reimbursed for my car. i am not looking for a handout. i just want what my car was worth, not to mention my time and trouble.

A/c: compressor clutch came apart exhaust: due to heat and corrosion cat converter flange became so thin it was impossible to seal exhaust. act converter replaced under 8/80 emmissions warranty. paint: cracks in paint developed above rear wheel (sheet metal flexing?) allowing moisture in causing corrosion and paint to lift. front springs: both front springs broke nearly puncturing the right front tire. no help from ford. seems they have a history of bad spring problems. 93 taurus recall #98v-094, windstar recall 01v-199, contour recall 01v-255. they have extended the warranty on front springs for the 2000 ford focus for 10 years or 150,000 miles because of this problem. i didn't even know the springs were broken. dealer brought it to my attention while in for a/c repair. had the spring punctured the tire at highway speed the result could have been catastropic. i contacted ford customer service and they offered no assistance other than to say if there was a future recall or satisfaction program i would be eligible for reimbursment. the cost of the repair is relativly inexpensive. it's the fact that they know there is a problem and are unwilling to address it that bothers me. springs are not a maintance item. i have seen them lose tension and sag on older high mileage cars, but not brake. this is a safety issue.

 1. the engine problem was a blown head gasket 2. the transmission problem was a planetary gear meltdown. i replaced the planetary gearset and the fiber parts, plates and seals. i also installed an axod dam kit made by shift technology products to increase the lubrication to the planetaries. unfortunately, the transmission still has the same delayed shifts from second to third and third to fourth and a delayed and harsh third to second downshift that it always had (it was my wifes car when i met her and it had 30000 miles on it at that time). 3. runs on the hot side even after the head gasket change. i've replaced the thermostat seeveral times and the water pump once and the radiator once. i finally removed the thermostat and let it run without one and the gage will still run in the middle. also, the cooling fan works.

95 ford taurus se sold to me by a major saturn dealer in september of 2001 sticker price around 6,000 before taxes etc. traded in my paid for buick in good condition because of overheating that could not be fixed with vehicle history so easy to access these days, how could this be over looked by a major car dealer, selling to the general public, my vehicle has been on notice for recall for 8yrs.! i just became aware of this warranty recall a few months prior to the expiration of this recall notice. i accidently ran across the ford extended warranty card transferred to me when i purchased the car, called them and was given info that answered a lot of questions: last year, i spent every dime i could make, borrow, and beg to keep that car form blowing up, and running so that i could keep a roof me and my children?s head , (single mother with 2 children in las vegas is scary enough but without transportation i can?t even imagine. car started overheating at odd times and way before any (normal heat reading), spewing coolant and so forth all over hoses and cables and radiator causing eventual erosion of all these hoses etc. some hoses can cost up to $60 a piece! this overheating continued to simultaneously cause other problems such as build up of fluids(coolant mixture)in radiator at temperatures ranging from 117 degrees causing erosion of the same nature within the radiator, head gasket cracked and repaired at the tune of $1600. still the electrical was over looked by the same mechanics time and time again. neglect is a prevalent problem in this field and women are the victims here once again, helpless!

My 1995 ford taurus with 3.8 liter engine has experienced head gaskets failures twice. the first time, ford motor company admitted that the design was faulty and replaced the engine. the second time occurred 28,000 miles later, on the new engine. now they refuse to accept responsibility for a design that is obviously defective. this is a very disappointing response from a major manufacturer. this explains why they are losing market share and customers. *ak

While traveling on the interstate, the engine temperature gauge began fluctuating back and forth. i stopped the car and checked under the hood and found the car to be overheating. vehicle was allowed to cool down and coolant was added. continued on to destination without further incident. vechile was taken to a ford dealer in arkansas to pinpoint problem. was told that the head gasket had failed.due to problem with the 3.8l engine, ford would fix at no charge. repair took over a week resulting in myself and family having to return to florida by other means and having to return to arkansas the following week to pick up my car. despite this problem being covered under an extended warranty ford offored no assistance for the inconvience/expense we went through, even though they knew we were from out of state and the vehicle was promised to be repaired before we had to return to florida. a subsequent complaint was filed to landers ford in little rock, ar and to the director of ford's vehicle service and programs dept. both letters were unanswered/ignored. vehicle ci again losing coolant (5/24/2000) and will be taken back to the dealer in dothan. *ak

Our vehicle was performing as usual prior to the breakdown. we had recently had the vehicle tuned up, and the oxygen sensor replaced due to a skip problem and lower then normal gas mileage. we had just completed a 45 minute trip in the vehicle and stopped for dinner. we were in the restaurant for 45 minutes and then returned to the vehicle to complete our trip. upon leaving the restaurant, the vehicle began to skip badly, with smoke from the exhaust, and the temperture gauge began to rise. we immeditally turned the vehicle off. we have had the vehicle towed to our mechanic and he said we have a blown head gasket. upon contacting our ford dealership we were told that yes, ford had an extended warranty for this problem for this vehicle, but that we were past the dec.31, 1998 deadline and the 60,000 miles. we contacted the ford customer inquiry department, but we were told the samething. we feel that ford knows about this problem and should take responsibility. *ak

95 taurus wagon, after having car checked numerous times for various temperature control issues with heat and air conditioning over the past several years, head gasket blew...called dealership, after first noticing vapor from tailpipe along with temperature problems. dealers explaination was thermostat problem. one week later, extreme amount of blue vapor pouring out of tailpipe along with antifreeze fluid loss that had continued to occur. contacted dealer, said it was a head gasket and we should fill with antifreeze and find a new car, car has 84,000miles. contacted ford motor corp. about extended warranty coverage that because of low mileage didnt cover our car even though symptoms occured during covered period. ford refused to honor or acknowledge any responsibility even knowing about gasket problems and the 3.8l engine they installed in the taurus.

The short block was replaced 2/23/98 , under recall for gasket problem this did not fix the problem . mileage 30577 . on app. 4/7/00 a complete engine assembly was instaled . this installation compounded the problem as the engine would continously loose water from the coolingn system. the dealer has tride many things to fix the problem some of them from repair bulletins and others suggeseted by rep. . i have had this car in the shop many times both documented and some not documented. the final answer i received that they did not know what the problem is and ford could not sopport futher assistance. i called the ford customer service department and was told that once a car was out of warenty ford was no longer responsible for trying to fix an extende problem even though they had not fixed it during the warenty period. they said this was a problem pecular to this vehicle and therfore they had did all they could. by the way the complete engine assembly was replaced under my extended warenty and suposudly had a 12 thousand mile warenty. i feel i am stuck with a bad situation. any help would be appreciated.7*ak

The engine cooling fan caught on fire almost exactly as described in recall 97s66, except the fan wasn't stopped by snow. luckily when we smelled the smoke we stopped the car, turned it off and had it towed to the dealer. this is a potentially fatal situation that affects all 1995 taurus owners. when i called ford to report the problem they just blew me off saying that my vin was not in the range of vins for that recall.

Starting on 3/15, the car would turn off with no warning, both at idle and at speeds of up to 75 mph. we are left to coast to the side of the road with no power steering or brakes. sometimes it will recrank, other times it won't. local ford dealer has had the car 5 times (has it now) and cannot figure it out. have replaced fuel pump, crank sensor, cam sensor, water pump, ignition control module and various filters. until recently, the dealer could not replicate the problem, so we kept the car until it was literally lurching and knocking, barely driving more than a mile at a time, turning off every 100 yards or so. they finally saw it turn itself off. it just goes dead. after several times, we found that there was a telltale shudder that occured sometime prior to it shutting off. no real pattern though. can happen first thing in the am, when cold, or on highway at cruising speed, or on city streets in stop/go. also at idle, or coming to a stop. cannot find a reason for this to happen. i found 44 other instances mentioned here of this...although some people call it engine, others fuel, others even have said transmission or ignition/electrical, while all describing the same thing. when will ford get the idea that there is a problem????*ak

Contrary to ford motor company's extended warranty letter, there were no indications or signs that may indicate a problem. both situations of failure happend on the main road suddenly, and the car would not restart. luckily, although holding up traffic, i was not hit in the middle of the road, and was pushed to safety until the car could be towed!!!!from what i have read, ford had issued an extended warranty a couple of years back, knowing of this condition, and this car should not have been on the lot for sale to begin with. being an ordinary trusting consumer, i bought a lemon. although ford has extended the warranty again, as a preventative type measure to others, offering to fix the problem, it was too late for me. we have put over $4,000 in repairs, and still owe money on the vehicle. the local dealer is giving us the run around, trying to get out of this situation the cheapest way possible, and avoiding our calls. i feel it's b/c they know they will not get a sale out of us, and we are just a hassle to deal with. no other dealer will take our car at a decent trade, although we have had it fixed, b/c of the bad reputation of the vehicle ford has created!!!!!we are stuck!!! i expect in another 2 years, the head gaskets/coolant system will fail again, b/c it's a defective engine in general. i think ford ought to recall the car, or buy the car back, or recall it, pay off our loan , so we can buy a more reliable car without defects from a more reliable manufacturer! no safety defect listed in the summary. *ak

 1. radiator - failed due to design defect in plastic to aluminum core joint, causing loss of coolant, replacement failed within one day. replacement for that one lasted only about 20,000 additional miles, so a total of three identical radiator failures with loss of coolant in about 25,000 miles on the same car. same problem on son's 1995 taurus sedan with same engine. original radiator failed, replacement failed within 1,000 miles of installation. this experience seems to indicate a fundamental design defect in the taurus radiator. 2. brake failure. defect in design of rear calipers used with abs system on the taurus results in rainwater intrusion causing rusting of caliper pins that then impedes proper retraction of the brake pads. excessive pad wear results in metal to metal contact between the caliper piston and the pad backing plate with greatly reduced braking efficiency. *ak

Engine head gasket leak has caused the need to replace the radiator, timing chain cover, bearings, crank and cam shaft, motor needs to be rebuilt, but the warranty co. that the ford dealer sold us as they would not sell us the ford warranty as we bought a demo will only put in a junk yard motor from a car that was in an accident and has approx. 30,000 miles on it we are paying on a rental car and have found out that ford knows about this problem, but did not let the public know that their engine head gaskets leak, and that the whole motor would have to be replaced because of intermixing of fuel. we had no prior warning until we had a leak of anti-freeze now we will have some kind of junk yard motor from some car and bills beyond what the warranty will cover. we want to be part of a class action suit against ford who when we called them said sorry. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1995 ford taurus. while driving 15-20 mph, the contact heard a loud clunking noise underneath the hood and a loss of steering. the engine fell and landed on the steering rods, which made it extremely impossible to maneuver the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent dealer and they confirmed that the damage was not worth the repair, and would not recommend investing money into the vehicle. a week prior to the failure, the independent mechanic at a local midas installed a new muffler. there were several recalls listed for that year, make, and model vehicle and ford was notified. the contact was informed that there was only one recall for the year, make, and model vehicle, but in reality, there were six. ford also stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under recall on october 6, 1999. the contact stated that he did not receive a recall notice or have any repairs performed at the location they claimed. the current and failure mileages were 103,013. updated 08/04/08 *bf updated 08/07/08

1995 ford taurus 3.8l station wagon with only 28,000 miles on it blew the head gasket. today, february 15, 2008 we called bob davidson ford in towson, ford customer service, and ford executive offices, who all say they will not give any assistance to fix the problem because of the age of the car. it does not matter how old the car is, it only has 28,000 miles on it and this is a known problem with the car. ford should pay to fix the car or give some decent sort of allowance to help cover the cost of the repair. it has been regularly over the years, generally several times a week, but not far, because the owner is elderly. if it was driven by a younger person, the problem would have shown up years ago, well within the 7 year warranty ford gave for this problem under ford service campaign 00m09. we want ford motor to pay for this repair. we are waiting for an estimate to repair the head gasket from bob davidson ford in towson md. we do not even know yet if the engine has been damaged. it is totally unacceptable for ford to refuse to cover this known defect. we are planning to write directly to chairman william clayton ford about this. we would appreciate any guidance you can give us. thank you. *tr

1995 taurus fire started under the hood. *ts the consumer was driving the vehicle when black smoke started emitting from under the hood. the consumer managed to pull over before the vehicle became totally engulfed in flames. the consumer searched the internet and found out that her vehicle had been recalled for a faulty cooling fan which could result in a fire. the consumer contacted the manufacturer and was informed that her vehicle was included in the recall. the consumer was never notified of the recall. the manufacturer inspected the vehicle to see if the fire was caused by the cooling fan. the dealer was unable to determine the cause because the engine compartment was so badly damaged therefore they provided the consumer with no assistance. *nm

Was driving vehicle when i experienced ax extreme overheating condition. over course of less than 2 minutes time my vehicles temperature guague progressed from the very bottom of the normal range all the way up past the red zone above normal. at time of occurence it was a cold day outside and i was less then 5 miles from my house having driven vehicle less than 10 minutes so i was fairly certain external factors could not have explained this degree of rapid engine overheating. this overheating was accompanied by excessive amounts of thick white billowing smoke exiting from my exhaust pipe (severe to the point it was impossible to see out my rearview mirror. upon getting the car back to my house and allowing it to cool off i inspected the radiator and found it totally void of coolant and preceeded to refill it with over 6 liters of replacement fluid. upon inspecting the underside of the engine i was able to ascertain that no coolant had leaked from my vehicle and finally upon inspecting the oil within the vehicle i noted the engine oil was contaminated with coolant/water resulting in a thick whitish milky appearance. upon consulting a mechanic and have someone come to my house to look at the car it was determined that the head gasket failed. at this time i am uncertain as to the extent of damage to the core engine itself.

The car has had problems starting from the day it was delivered. the problems began with flaking paint, misaligned hood, door and bumper due to poor quality control. these problems were fixed by dealer w/o charge, as was the head gasket failure. repairs for muffler failure, sway bar linkage failure, air conditioner failure and starter motor failure were not covered by the manufacturer under any sort of recall. the most recent problem with the air conditioner and starter motor cost over $1200 to fix. the problem with the ignition system was intermittent. some times the car would start and other times the starter would not engage at all. one time the engine simply died while driving down the road. starter motor would not engage until engine cooled down and had been sitting for an hour or two. then starter motor would work. mechanic at dealership said the starter motor probably had dead areas in starter motor that may be causing intermittent failure. air conditioner failure attributed to failure of motor mounts that caused rupture of multiple hoses in air conditioning unit. i've never had a vehicle with so many equipment failures with this type of mileage.*ak

This car had a headgasket failure in april 2000. it was repaired at berglund ford in salem virginia. berglund determined the headgasket failure caused antifreeze to contaminate all engine components. when they tore down the engine they found antifreeze in every compartment of the engine. they changed all gaskets, replaced all fluids, did a change of spark plugs and changed the oxygen sensor. they charged me over $388. to replace gaskets they said needed replaced but weren't covered under the warranty recall. i paid this to get my car repaired hopefully correctly. no other option was given to me even though i felt they should have replaced the engine. not 5 month later i suffered complete engine failure after only driving an additional 3,ooo miles. i also had to have my car towed which cost me another $1oo. huff ford, inc in wytheville, va replaced my engine with a re-built engine under warranty. my car is still not repaired correctly. when the engine was replaced somehow they damaged my steering system. the car now drifts somewhat in the middle steering range something i have never experienced before. i have reported this to ford motor company and to my local ford dealer berglund ford as well as huff ford where the problem occurred. i have yet to hear from any of them about addressing this problem. i have an appointment with berglund ford on 10/04/00 to assess the problem. ford also told me verbally i have a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty on the replaced engine but i can not get them to give this warranty to me in writing even though i have asked for it three times. can you help with any of this? especially reimbursement of costs i have had to put out because ford did not repair my vehicle correctly yo begin with. thank you.

Upon having difficulty with engine of ford, taurus, took it to dealership in november of 1999 for servicing, whereas i was informed that head gaskets and valve covers needed to be replaced as were leaking and could cause serious engine failure and damage that would be extensive to the vehicle. at this point, said vehicle had 30,000 miles on odometer . brought vehicle to two separate independent car businesses to confirm this problem as existing, then proceeded to notify ford motor company by both phone and letter stating the problem with vehicle and expressing my concern that a car should not need a head gasket/valve disorder at 30,000 miles. i also atated that ford needs to accept some responsibility towards this matter, whereas they have declined. as of this date, august 7, 2000, i am still actively seeking justification and compensation from ford, who , has acknowledged this problem in the ford taurus with the 3.8 l engines, but not the 3.0 l engine. it seems that the warranty extension should cover both engines, as it is a defective assembly problem from the ford manufacturer, and not the owner who should have to pay for these outstanding repairs due to neglience at factory. *ak

Car died in parking lot. after about 7 attempts, car started on its own. car idled rough and was emitting white exhaust and on way home. put car into park at each stop light to keep it from dying. noticed a smell when got home. thought at first a battery or alternator problem. drove to dealer next day and they said that it was a faulty headgasket which blew the entire engine. doing research on your website noticed quite a few of same complaints. a car this young with under 80,000 miles should not need entire engine replacement. would appreciate so much if an investigation was conducted. we bought car 1 1/2 year ago for 10,000 and can't afford this hefty of a repair, and it should not have had this problem. but others have had it too so i think it is investigation worthy. on a few of the complaints there was an invest #1e98080 and recall #98m01kaa listed....can you tell me what this means. there are only 4 recalls under the model and type and this # was not listed. if an invest. was done in '98 i think they need to do another now because a lot of complaints came from this year or last year. manufacturer or dealer has not been very helpful and this is a very expensive repair for our new car. can you tell me where to find info on that recall # a few of the complaints said ford was aware of this, but no one has been helpful...thank you

*ak

*ak

When the air temperature is extremely hot and humid (above 90 degrees) and the car has been driven for a period of time, stalling occurs, mostly at idle. this seems to occur when the car has been driven for a long time, parked, and then started again after a short period of time. the car will not restart until it has cooled down considerably. i noticed that there was at least one other complaint concerning this problem. i have not had this problem fixed because it is intermittent and has only happened twice in the time i've owned the car. what gives?

Vehicle was returned from pioneer ford after head gasket failure, failure of head gasket was covered by ford under recall, 2 days later vehicle overheated again, this time cause was found to be main control cover gasket failure allowing water to leak in the oil. ford refused to cover this failure even though failure was to to the same cause as head gasket failure. service bulletin 96-17-14 is for a new elastomeric gasket for the main control cover and pan that probably would have prevented this failure.
