Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles originally sold or currently registered in connecticut, delaware, district of columbia, illinois, indiana, iowa, kansas, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, nebraska, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virgnia, and wisconsin. the rear lower subframe mount plate nut can experience stress corrosion cracking if subjected to long term exposure to road salts. this can result in fracture and loss of the structural integrity of the subframe mount attachment. detachment of the body mounts at the rear corners of the subframe, which supports the engine and transmission, allows the rear corners of the subframe to drop.
Consequence SummaryIf both rear corners drop, steering would become suddenly very difficult, affecting vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will install subframe rear mount bolts, reinforcement plates, and plate nuts.
NotesNote:this recall campaign supercedes recall campaign 93v-106.owner notification is expected to begin january 18, 1999.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

Speedometer head has failed again, original head failed under warranty and was replaced by ford, the replacement head has now failed leaving me with no idea what speed i am traveling at...ford is quoting a price of five hundred dollars plus for repairing this item again...my thoughts are that both the original part and the replacement part were defective..they both failed at about the same mileage. it is unconscionable for them to expect an owner to pay for this repair when it appears that they are supplying defective parts!*ak

I took my car into a garage, and they told me the rear corners of cradle mount are rusted so badly, the mechanic could put his finger through the holes. he said it was not safe to drive, especially on the highway. that if i hit a big bump, the rear corners where it was attached could break away and only the front mounts would be holding it. i saw on the nhtsa web site that there was a recall for this exact problem. i called ford, and they said that even though my car make, model and year was listed, my car wasn't included in that recall, but they offered to sell me a new car instead of repairing it. my car is a 1995 ford taurus. *tr

I have a 1995 ford taurus , last year the rear coil spring broke while driving and made the car seem like it hit something . i did not lose control but it did make the ccar swerve . this was either through my action or the action of the coil spring breaking. about 2 weeks ago i was driving and the drivers front coil spring broke , this made the car suddendly pull to the left . i tell myself i was lucky i was not travelling at a higher speed. i did not have an accident but it pulled the car enough i went into the opposite lane. being this was the second coil spring that failed i looked at the other 2 and discovered that the right front coil spring was broken also . it was broken near the top on the last spirial and did not make the car drop down much . so i guess there could be many cars like this where people are not aware the spring is even broken. also in november of 2003 i had to have repairs to the the cradle bushing replaced for the rear subframe . this time i just was turning right from a stop sign when it broke and did not lose control but it made the car pull / steer to the right . i was told by the dealer this was a recall on certin vehicles but not on mine .
