Defect SummaryCertain passenger vehicles equipped with adjustable padels are being recalled in order to adjust the brake and accelerator pedals to a minimum of 50 mm of lateral separation. simultaneous application of both the brake and accelerator pedals could result in an increase in engine rpm.
Consequence SummaryThis could result in a customer experiencing an unintended vehicle speed increase or a perceived unable to stop condition.
Corrective SummaryOwners will be instructed as to the proper way to set the position of the pedals and to take their vehicles to a dealer to have the spacing between the brake and accelerator pedals measured. if the spacing is found to be less than 50 mm, the dealer will adjust the pedals to increase the distance between them to greater than 50 mm. owner notification began october 28, 2002. owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Ford conducted a recall in march, 2001 to correct a defect affecting the brake light switch in my 2000 through early-2001 taurus and sable vehicles equipped with power adjustable pedals (recall 01v-078).rq03-008 was opened to investigate complaints concerning the remedy and scope of 01v-078.odi's analysis identified concerns with post-repair failures in recalled vehicles, failures in my 2001-02 vehicles with adjustable pedals that were not included in recall 01v-078, and failures in my 2000 vehicles with fixed pedals.(note: the manufacturer failure data in this resume includes all crashes and injuries, but the complaint information is limited to my 2001-02 vehicles that were not included in the scope of recall 01v-078.)on march 1, 2004, ford notified nhtsa of a safety defect in my 2000 through early-2003 taurus and sable vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals and my 2000 subject vehicles equipped with fixed pedals (recall 04v-106).the notification identified three factors contributing to brake light circuit failures:(1) continuing grease contamination issues that prompted 01v-078; (2) misalignment of the booster rod pin and the brake light switch; and (3) wire assembly fatigue.the first two conditions were limited to vehicles with adjustable pedals and the latter condition affected vehicles with fixed pedals.ford will instruct owners to bring their vehicles to a dealer to have the brake light switch and associated wiring replaced with a re-designed brake light switch and wiring assembly.

I work in the county juvenile probation department. we have a fleet of ford taurus vehicles and i have one of my own. the department has 3 and i have one 2000 taurus plus we have several 2002 and 2003 taurus'. we have to replaced the rotors on the front end of two of the office owned cars and my own personal car with less than 30,000 miles. mine was replaced at 20-22,000 miles and it is again vibrating in the steering wheel (37,000 miles) when i stepped on the brakes lightly at a speed of around 50-60 mph. i don't know if this is a problem with all of the 2000 taurus but it seems to be with the ones i have come into contact with. *la

My mother had a horrifying experience and a accident while driving my 2000 ford taurus. as she was putting car in drive, when leaving restaurant the car suddenly went out of control and sped up on its own and even while she had her foot on the brake all the way to floor car would not stop, the accelerator was stuck and she was terrified as she was heading head on to the restaurants brick building where she ended up crashing into and people inside restaurant said they were hurt as well as my car got badly damaged and the building. my mother and the people inside are lucky to be alive because of this problem with the gas pedal and brakes this could have been a deadly accident. my mother is bruised and still very sore from the accident and the impact was so hard when she crashed into the brick building that both front air bags failed to deploy. please someone needs to look into this because this i understand that this has happen to others who own 2000 ford taurus. i called ford and they said they had a recall on this vehicle in 2002 and the problem was corrected but here it is 2009 and it has happened again so something isn't right with these cars and it shouldn't have to take someone to die before ford realizes that this problem is still happening and they need to do something about this. there are several complaints about this same problem. and if ford said they corrected the problem in 2002 then why is it still happening??????????? please do something before its to late. i was really upset after reading all the complaints about 2000 ford taurus owners who are having the same problem with there car and this was after the 2002 recall when ford claim they fixed it. i wish i knew this before i brought the car or even let my mother drive it because i would never have put her life or others in jeopardy like that. tow truck had to pull my car from building and then it had to be towed away. *tr

2000 ford taurus se, abs, traction control, 3.0 24 valve engine. this month we had to replace the rear brakes with only 45,500 miles on the car. the vehicle is kept in house garage. after driving a few days on rain slick roads and after being in the garage overnight the rear brakes had locked shut and would not allow the vehicle to move. it took several times through-out the day of gentle shifting between drive and reverse to ge the rear brakes to unlock and free the car to move. took the car immediately to a nearby goodyear dealer to have the brakes checked. the brakes appeared to have rusted shut. the brake cylinder covers on both rear wheels had burned holes in them from the excessive heat created by driving with rusted brakes. the emergency brake cable was not involved in the problem, and it did not show any evidence of being locked. called the local ford dealer to find out if ford would take care of the problem and was advised that since the 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty had expired ford wasn't interested in reviewing the problem. ford dealer offered to make repairs at my expense and then file a report with ford. i chose to have goodyear fix the brakes, and kept the rusted burned parts for future review if necessary. situation created a potentially dangerous situation whereby the rear brakes could have heated to the point of causing a fire or other serious problems if we had to take the vehicle on a long distance drive. ford and the nhtsa needs to look at this problem as potentially dangerous. *nlm

This is the thrid and last ford car i well buy, on-less it was made before 1970! while driving, the car pulls to the left and there's a sqeaking sonud coming from the driver's side. the pulling to the left caused the inside of tire's to wear. when applying the brakes the steering wheel and front end vibrated badly. the brake rotors had to be resurfaced no less than three time do to warping. one time, the ball-joint was replaced under warrant, but i was billed for the realignment by fairlane ford in dearborn mi.. it was said that the tire's was at fault. there seems to be a defect in the braking system or bad metal in the rotors. (90% of my driving is open road) there's no good explanation or justification for these repetitve malfunction starting on a vehicle that has less than 11,000 miles.. p.s i had to leave out some of the little things.u. *ak

This vehicle has been a nightmare since we bought it from team ford in june. the car has been to the dealer three times for two days per incident and the same problems continue while they gradually discover more problems each time. a car with 5200 miles on it should not need the varied and unique combination of replacements our car has required. the car makes a rotational grinding noise while at freeway speeds, when going over bumps or taking an involved turn the car makes a pop/crack noise from left/front of car. the car has stalled three times during freeway and city driving. the driver's side window creaks and shudders when being put up or down. the car hesitates when started in 80 degree weather and comes close to stalling when initially putting into gear. now and then car makes lunging motion and noise when put in drive or reverse. i could go on and on...i am reporting defects and problems to better business bureau and the nevada attorney general's office. please help!

Poor design on brake light switch on brake pedal. the wires that connect to the brake indicator switch are mounted on the front end of the brake pedal. they are positioned 3-4 inches above foot level, a location where the wires are vulnerable to being sheared off with an errant foot. additionally, the wire coming from the wire loom is too short, leading to strain on the wire. the result is the wire disconnects and you lose the brake lights. in our case, the wire held on only by the insulation and would connect when the brake was lightly applied (allowing you to shift out of park), but would fail when the brake was fully depressed*ak.
