I read an article today concerning the us is investigating ford tauruses for stuck throttles, model years 2005-2006. please consider expanding the investigation to include the 2001 model year. i purchased the car used from a ford dealer in 2004 (approx) and have been having the same problem of the car engine speeding-up when coming to a stop. the article is located at: http://money.cnn.com/2012/03/12/autos/ford_taurus_investigation/index.htm?source=cnn_bin after many attempts, the ford dealer could not find the cause of the problem and the car is still doing it today. the warranty comapny, back in 2004/2005, said they were going to report this problem to the nhtsa, but i am not sure if they ever did. thank-you.

On june 4th, i was travelling on i-95 south bound (new jersey turnpike) when all of a sudden my 2001 ford taurus lost power, and stalled out. i immediately pulled over to the shoulder. i took it to an independent mechanic who advised that the engine head gasket may be the cause. after taking it to the dealer they advised that this is not covered, since the warranty has expired. i only have 33,000 miles on the vehicle, and this should nevere happen to any ford product, especially with 33,000 miles. obviously, their is an engine problem that ford may not want to address, and as always the consumer gets the short end of the stick. i strongly belive there is a considerable defect with this model engine and should be investigated.

Have complained to dealer/ford motor company re: foul odor when heat is running. was told that i probably had a high sensitivity to allergies. complained about having to replace breaks at 15,000 miles. had to replace oil gasket pan twice within the same year. dealership did not find this unusual. car accelerates without warning sometimes. the motor is making a rushing noise. was told that this was the normal sound of the motor although it did not start until six months down the road. had to take car back to replace back/warped windshield after having it one day. dealership will not even allow me to trade vehicle and does not acknowledge fact that too many things have gone wrong in too short a period of time. purchased vehicle in 2002. *la

I am a owner of a 2001 ford taurus which i bought used and have owned it now for 2 years. it is the first ford i have owned in over 20 years. since i have owned it, it has not given me too many problems, just the basic break downs like, batteries, brakes ,seized a/c compressor, coolant expansion tank cracked, ect. those things are going to break. but what has really upset me is how i have read about the coil springs breaking on the taurus and causing possible damage to the vehicle. i didn't think it would happen to me but after arriving home today i noticed a small piece of metal under my 01 taurus and after further observation i found it to be a piece of my rear coil spring from the drivers side. i am a 40+ year old male who has had many makes and models of different types of vehicles and have never had or heard of coil springs breaking as they do on the ford taurus. this is a problem that needs to be repaired by ford and not the consumer. so i can only expect that the rest of the springs are faulty and need to be replaced before i have any further damage to my vehicle. it seems to me that the ford company does not care about craftmanship or the consumers safety. so change your slogan have you driven a ford lately to your riding on faulty coil springs. this is a serious problem that is a major safety issue and needs to be corrected free of charge to all ford taurus owners. *tr

I started hearing a noise in the engine, particularly when accelerating or idling. this started on wed., 11/10 and i took it to the dealer 11/17. i was told that the air conditioner compressor had fallen apart, that the belts were barely holding it on, and since i am 10 months out of warranty, it will be $1200 to repair. after checking with a mechanic that we use to maintain other vehicles, we found that this was a reasonable price so we authorized the repair by the dealer. however, they were unable to tell me how this could happen to a 3+ year old car with 32000 miles on it. i was told that if i continued to drive the car, the compressor could fall out at any time and i would be unable to drive the vehicle.*ak

Went out of town for the day, car starting making noises. noises seem to be intermediate, we cut our trip short and drove home. it is in the area of 100 miles home. when we got home i parked it till next day and had someone look at it. they said a bolt either fell out or broke and my hub assemply was falling apart. at that point they also tell me i was lucky that the pulley didn't freeze up on me because i would have lost all power. at 65 mph coming home we could have been killed. i called my ford dealer and they suggested that i get it to a ford dealer here and let them look at it. i had it towed the next day and they veriified the same information. they said i needed to replace the a/c compressor, clutch, pulley and a coil. i did speak to ford and they didn't seem to think that they should assit in any repairs because my warranty expired. my biggest thing is that the car was falling apart while driving down the road. it was not due from neglect or an accident. their lack of concern was disturbing. i have not repaired it as of yet but when i do i will keep the old parts.

I have a 2001 ford taurus station wagon with a little over 56,000 miles on it. i turned off the engine at a long stop light & when i turned it back on, i had no power steering. i was able to drive the car the remaining mile to work with great difficulty. when i got to work i noticed the serpentine belt had broke. after work, i was able to drive the car 2 miles to a garage for repairs, once again without power steering. the garage stated that the reason the serpentine belt broke was that the bearings in the air conditioning clutch were seized which caused the clutch to lock up. this caused tremendous friction on the serpentine belt causing it to break. the mechanic showed me the air conditioning clutch with the seized bearings & also stated that the bolt that holds the clutch to the engine was about to come off & that would have caused the clutch to come off the engine. the shop manager stated that this problem should never happen to a vehicle with this amount of miles on it, but he had noticed this problem lately with newer model fords. this problem did not cause an accident as i lost power steering when the vehicle was not moving. i am also a muscular man, so i was able to steer the vehicle at low speeds worth great difficulty. however, if this had happened at a highway speed with my wife or my teenage daughter driving, they would not have been able to control the vehicle & would probably have crashed potentially causing serious injury or death. i would like this problem investigated to see if there is a design problem with the air conditioning clutch on late model fords. *jb

Approximately 1 year ago, i was having mechanic problems with my 2001 ford taurus. the engine light came on. i had it inspected by a mechanic. the egr valve and egr sensor was replaced. about two weeks ago, the engine light came back on. i was not able to have it checked by a mechanic again. about a week ago, i noticed that when i started the engine, there was an instantaneous smell of exhaust in the passenger compartment. the windows were all in the closed position. i was required to drive with my windows down for a few days until i could have it looked at by a mechanic. the mechanic found that the egr sensor had melted due to the egr valve not functioning properly. the vacuum line from the egr valve to the egr sensor had also melted. during the few days that i had to drive it, i suffered from extreme headaches, nausea, and lightheadedness from the exhaust coming into the car. although there was no fire, there was a great potential for a fire due to the extreme heat causing the sensor to melt.

My taurus has a strong smell of fuel vapors coming from under the hood after the engine is at operating temp!! i had a 2000 taurus that did exactly the same thing! after the dealer could not fix car ford sent out a factoy tech.he could not fix my 2000 taurus.i went to arbitration and the arbitrators could smell the fuel.i was awarded a new 2001 taurus.i received my 2001 with the same type engine.this is the 24 valve 3.0 litre v-6.now as i get more miles on my 2001 it has the same symptoms exactly as my 2000 did.i have noticed other people on ypur own web page complaining about a fuel odor on their 2000-2001 taurus.if you drive the car somewhere and shut it off the smell builds up under the hood.when you restart the car the smell comes inside the car thru the vents or heat ducts!!!!! i have walked up to other taurus in parking lots and they also smell of fuel.this is of courses that they have the 24v emblems on their fenders.*ak

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 ford taurus. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to overheat. there was no smoke coming from the engine compartment, but the temperature dial dropped quickly. within minutes, the contact pulled the vehicle over and shut off the engine. she allowed the vehicle to cool off and it was towed to a repair shop. the mechanic checked the vehicle and stated that all of the fluids were fine; however, the catalytic converter failed. the vehicle heads were made of aluminum and when the engine overheated, they warped and cracked. the failure caused the entire motor to be replaced. during the entire ordeal, there were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the failure has not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 80,000. updated 08/31/09 *bf updated 09/03/09.*jb
