With a hard press on the gas pedal at 55mph..the gas pedal stuck in the fully pressed position after lifting my foot off the gas pedal...i then put the transmission in neutral and stomp the gas pedal a few times and then the gas pedal released from the fully pressed position.

I pushed the accelerator into passing gear to go around a vehicle in the passing zone on a hill. when i released the accelerator the car continued to accelerate and on topping the hill we were traveling over 70 mph. i tapped the accelerator but acceleration continued. coming down the hill i shifted into neutral and the engine accelerated to over 6000 rpm. i stopped on level ground and shut the engine off. on restart, the engine immediately revved to over 6000 rpm and a transaxle warning icon appeared. by alternately shifting in and out of gear i jerked to an auto body shop. the mechanics knew the problem immediately; broken plastic tabs had allowed the cruise control cable sheath to slip out of the throttle connector. the cable sheath was jammed against the edge of the connector, holding the throttle open. when the sheath was reinserted into the connector, rpm returned to normal. the mechanics wired the cable to the connector so we could continue our trip. function is normal 3k miles later. the dealer indicated no recalls or tsb's related to the problem and wants $34. for a new cable. *tr

Started the engine this morning and the engine raced to over 4000 rpm, having never touched the accelerator pedal today. shut it down and started it again - same thing. never seen anything like this before on this car. i looked under the hood and a beige colored plastic guide for the cruize control cable had a chip out of the side of the guide entry point such that the cruise control cable and sheath were caught out of alignment in the slot of the chip in the guide. i pulled out, straightened and reset the cable, sheath and guide and, again started the engine. perfect idle. this is very dangerous if it were to happen while driving! i won't drive this car until i know it's resolved. do you need pictures? i don't see any recall for this here...

I have a 2002 ford taurus sedan, and while driving about a month ago i pushed gas pedal to accelerate, the throttles became stuck causing the cars engine to speed up to 80 mph in a 30 mph speed zone. i had to apply as much pressure to the breaks as i could to control the car, and finally i was able to pull into a gas station, with the engine still racing, put the car into park and turn off the car. i was so afraid i just set in the car for about 10 minutes to collect my thoughts. i open the hood to see if anything had broken or came apart but could not find any unusual. i turn the car back on, the engine was still racing, i looked for the accelerator cable and found it. however, i notice that the small plastic o-ring on the cable used as a stop was caught on the corner of the air intake housing. i pulled back on the cable releasing it. when i let go of the cable it went back to its normal position, the engine stopped racing and slowed to a normal idle. i crept back home were the car set for two weeks before i had the nerves to drive it again. it happen again on 3/14/12 when i pushed the accelerator pedal to pass a truck on i-70w in columbus, oh.

There is a leak in the passenger compartment of my 2002 ford taurus when ever it rains. the leak comes from above, and floods the floor while the car is sitting still. this has caused the heater/cooling blower to repeatedly stop. i have has the fan replaced 3 times in the last 17 months. i have had to additionally have the compressor replaced. this problem seems to be a continual one, and very much highlighted by many taurus owners in many forums and places. this is a factory defect in the taurus body, that now continually causes internal problems, and since the vehicle is out of warranty ford takes a stand that it is not their problem. *tr

Sept 18, 2001 we purchased a new 2002 ford taurus. in one day radiator hose popped off. thirty days after the firs repair the hose popped off again. the dealer wanted to replace the engine to correct the problem. on 10-29-01 the car started to make a hiss noise and smoke would come from the front end when it was parked or turned off. the vehicle was taken to the dealer dirks motors. they asked if the could replace the engine again and we said no. we left the car and they told us they would let us know but we did not hear nothing from them, when we would call to ask them what was going to happen they did not know at all. on 11-5-01 the car was returned to us and with leaving the service center and not being less then 20 miles from akron, iowa the car got hot and started to smoke and i called dirks service center on my cell phone and told them i was bring it back and this time i wanted the car replaced no questions.. but the car was taking back and they looked over it and they did not call us at all while it was in service, we called everyday to see if they knew what was wrong with it and the funny thing about it was the car was at dirks motor inc from 11-5-01 to 11-16-01 and they could not find nothing wrong. on 11-16-01 this would have been the 4th time this car had been serviced and it was getting old.. on 12-27-02 the car started the hissing noise and short cuts on and the cd player stopped working and that was it.. i called the ford company at 1-800-392-3673. while talking with the call center they called dirks service center and edu'd them to have the cd player replaced and look at the engine. this car has been service for the same issue more then 3 to 4 times.. we wanted the car replaced.... we rec'd a call back from fords call center (natalie) and she edu'd to me they were going to order a new cd player and have the car looked at to see about getting the car replaced. steve irwin afitchboy1@iw.net p# (605) 761-0268

The fan blower motor on my dad's 2003 ford taurus se with only 33,000 miles and on my 2002 ford taurus ses with 82,000 miles both failed recently. my dad passed away july 7th and i was attempting to seal the car when a prospective buyer mentioned that the fan wasn't working. i checked it out and it work sporadically. i ended up taking it to hiller ford in franklin wi after talking to ford - they wanted it diagnosed. the dealer replaced the blower motor, resistor and rain hat which cost $520. the day of my dad's funeral, the blower motor on my car began to work sporadically. i took my car to hiller ford and authorized the repairs today. the estimate is $429 to replace the blower motor, resistor and a seal. the dealer service manager stated that it appears there is a leak in the post for the windshield and water was getting behind the dash soaking the blower motor unit. when i contacted ford on august 22, 2008, they claim neither car was subject to the 2003 windshield replacement recall (nhtsa campaign id # 03v087000). i find it hard to believe that ford is offering no relief because they claim the cars weren't subject to the recall and the windshield leak isn't related to the blower motor going bad. i'm out almost $1000 in repair costs and i've seen many comments from other owners who have had issues with the blower motor and leaks into the passenger compartment. *tr

Ford issued a recall on its 2002 ford tauraus vehicles for updating the computer systems. after the computer systems were updated i was told that i need to purchase a new oxygen sensor to keep the light from coming on again. i asked if this was a part of the recall and the dealership stated no that is was something different. well the same exact thing happened on my father-in-laws 2002 ford escape. i took it in and was told the same thing. i asked again if it was part of the recall and they assured me that it wasnt. i think they are wrong. well about a month later the car started accelerating on its on and jumping out of gear. this could have caused and accident but thankfully no one was in front of us at the time. then the battery on it drained down so far that the big jump box at the dealership couldn't even fix it and we had to purchase a new battery. i'm not sure of the exact date of the incidents.

We own two 2002 ford taurus vehicles. one was purchased new and one used. the first time owner vehcile experienced intermittent and finally complete malfunction of the heater/airconditioner blower fan. dealer advised that water had leaked into the area which houses the unit and replaced as unit was under warranty. second vehicle experienced same problem however was no longer under dealer warranty. dealer installed a rain shield in the fresh air intake and replaced blower motor and resistor. total repair bill was $363.02. when we questioned that this problem was a design defect and perhaps should be covered by ford motor company we were told no and when we asked for the dealer to provide at least a senior citizen discount, we were declined. we also experienced the same problem with a previous 1998 ford contour.*ak

Car was driven for approx. 100 miles, gas was low, so stopped to refill. when car was restarted, the car hesitated then sounded choked like it was not getting gas. revved car to try to 'clear' system. problem continued, at worst when idling. after a few minutes, engine light came on, so i turned off the car and called ford dealer. wrecker driver came out, revved car a few more times (approx. 3000 rpm) small backfire out of muffler each time. problem seemed to go away. wrecker driver blamed 'baffles' in muffler? drove car another 200 miles home. three days later, after driving a bit, parked for short time then restarted car, same problem reoccurred.
While traveling at normal speed and without any indication vehicle stalled. consumer depressed brakes and tried to turn steering wheel, but vehicle would not respond, resulting in a car crash. dealer has been notified. please provide further information. *ak

The car was operating under sunny dry conditions. temperature was around 60 degrees. the engine stopped running, causing shutdown of all power related devices including steering and brakes. the taurus seems to be more difficult than most cars to steer without powered assistance. i was lucky enough to be able to coast to an area where i could safely get off the road. under different conditions, this failure could have caused a serious accident. *ak

I bought my car new in nov 01. i noticed a stale smell and complained to the dealer and they changed a filter. two days later the smell was back. this month, after a heavy rain, there was 1 1/2 inches of water on my passenger floor and water in my heater blower which within a matter of minutes killed my blower on all positions but high. i called ford and they said there was no recalls on my vehicle. i did some research and found that my car was manufactured in oct 01 and there was a recall on the windshield. i took the car to the dealership and they told me it was probably not the windshield put a design flaw and they had a kit that would fix the problem and they would put a new blower in. i informed them that i was not going to pay anything for this they said they would contact the rep. i scheduled an appointment and in the meantime called ford and told them that i was not paying for it because it was a design flaw. i talked with gloria and she took all the information and she told me that she would advise the dealership and also throw in a carpet shampoo and deordorizer treatment. when i picked my car up i was charged $36.66 for a consumer co-pay and i had to pay it or i could not have my car. *la

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - EXHAUST SYSTEM - EMISSION CONTROL - GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE (EGR VALVE)

Auto: ford taurus 2002 with the (ffe) fuel flex engine installed problem: car experiences classic miss under load or hesitation at constant speed with a low throttle angle on the gas petal between 20-50 mph while in either over drive or drive. most pronounced in cruise control between 20-50 mph with a/c off. repair effort: after (4) repair cycles within local dealer's shop, the last with ford field engineering present, have identified the problem to be isolated to the exhaust gas recycling valve. since the ffe engine is design to work with both ethanol and standard gasoline, it is believed the opening and closing cycle of the egr valve is incorrect for use with standard gasoline. the fourth and final repair report states egr is the cause of the auto performance problem. the owner firmly believes this egr problem is also the cause of periodic motion felt within the car, which may cause feelings of nausea possibly due to motion sickness to the driver and any occupants in the car. dealer mechanics and the service manager have been successful in repeating the performance problem during test drives and can stop problem by disconnecting of portion of erg system. ford field engineering final decision on repair: no repair necessary, this effect is normal for this type of engine. auto owner is now using dispute settlement board within ford motor company to resolve this problem. owner believes this type of problem falls under defective product statute. *jb
