Defect SummaryCertain passenger vehicles equipped with adjustable padels are being recalled in order to adjust the brake and accelerator pedals to a minimum of 50 mm of lateral separation. simultaneous application of both the brake and accelerator pedals could result in an increase in engine rpm.
Consequence SummaryThis could result in a customer experiencing an unintended vehicle speed increase or a perceived unable to stop condition.
Corrective SummaryOwners will be instructed as to the proper way to set the position of the pedals and to take their vehicles to a dealer to have the spacing between the brake and accelerator pedals measured. if the spacing is found to be less than 50 mm, the dealer will adjust the pedals to increase the distance between them to greater than 50 mm. owner notification began october 28, 2002. owners who do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Ford conducted a recall in march, 2001 to correct a defect affecting the brake light switch in my 2000 through early-2001 taurus and sable vehicles equipped with power adjustable pedals (recall 01v-078).rq03-008 was opened to investigate complaints concerning the remedy and scope of 01v-078.odi's analysis identified concerns with post-repair failures in recalled vehicles, failures in my 2001-02 vehicles with adjustable pedals that were not included in recall 01v-078, and failures in my 2000 vehicles with fixed pedals.(note: the manufacturer failure data in this resume includes all crashes and injuries, but the complaint information is limited to my 2001-02 vehicles that were not included in the scope of recall 01v-078.)on march 1, 2004, ford notified nhtsa of a safety defect in my 2000 through early-2003 taurus and sable vehicles equipped with adjustable pedals and my 2000 subject vehicles equipped with fixed pedals (recall 04v-106).the notification identified three factors contributing to brake light circuit failures:(1) continuing grease contamination issues that prompted 01v-078; (2) misalignment of the booster rod pin and the brake light switch; and (3) wire assembly fatigue.the first two conditions were limited to vehicles with adjustable pedals and the latter condition affected vehicles with fixed pedals.ford will instruct owners to bring their vehicles to a dealer to have the brake light switch and associated wiring replaced with a re-designed brake light switch and wiring assembly.

I have a 2002 ford taurus.. starting shaking while driving at 8,500 miles. took it to ford and they stated rotors were warped and replaced them. at approx 18,000 miles they warped again. ford would not cover the warrant so i ended up paying to have them resurfaced. i filed a complaint with the attorney generals office and ended up getting reimbursed for the repair. i'm now at 28,000 miles and they are shot, unable to be resurfaced and must be replaced. needless to say i'm not going to deal with ford any longer and will replace with a higher quality after market product. i have found and exorbanent ammount of other taurus owners online that are having the same problems. i was wondering if you could look into it and the feasability of issueing a recall. the warping is pretty common from what i can see and causes the vehicle to shake violently when attempting to stop , and is extremely bad when stopping from highway speeds

I own a 2002 ford taurus ses sedan with 100,000 miles. recently, the brake warning light illuminated, and i brought it into the ford service department of my local dealership. apparently what happened was a abs/traction control sensor (part number 2c219) burned out. according to the dealership and various online postings in blogs and other areas, this is a very common thing that happens on these cars. i think that ford should take action because they do acknowledge that there is a problem with the design of that module, and their poor design can lead to limited braking capability, the vehicle not performing as it should on slippery surfaces, crashes, injuries, and possibly even death.

I own a 2002 ford taurus and when i took the car in for brake service my mechanic discovered that 3 of 4 coil springs were broken. the left rear spring spun and cut a gouge in a tire with less than 100 miles on it. there is no recall on this item so for replacement of the springs i was socked with a $400 bill. i researched the problem and discovered this has been a problem with these springs for several years. see below associated press tue, oct. 04, 2005 washington - the government is investigating whether the rear coil spring can fracture and punch a hole in the rear tires of some models of the ford taurus and mercury sable, federal auto safety officials said tuesday. the national highway traffic safety administration said it opened a preliminary investigation into the 2000-2001 models of the taurus and sable sedans after receiving 131 complaints about broken coil springs. the inquiry involves about 467,000 vehicles. the taurus was among the best-selling passenger cars in the united states during the two model years. most of the complaints came from northern states where vehicles are often subject to salt corrosion during the winter. about half of the owners who filed complaints said there were punctures in the rear tires because of the broken coil springs. any help would be greatly appreciated. *tr

Depressing brake pedal after removing foot from accelerator, vehicle continues to accelerate. the lower the brake pedal, the faster the accelleration. twice at stop signals i was able to put the car into park; when moved to drive, all was normal. on sept 7, in marietta ga, i was unable to move transmission into park. as the car was moving very fast. from a distance of 40 to 50 feet, car climbed an earthen embankment, over large shrubs. it stopped when top was reached. i was able get into reverse and back down. a service man at the marietta ford dealer said car was driveable. and that this happens all the time as the brake and accelelrator pedals are close. when the damage repaired in st. louis, it was more extensive than the adjustor had estimated. this same problem occurred as i was driving to my home from the repair shop. scary! mr
