This is an apparent problem with many of the ford taurus's where the heater just stops working. each time it stops working it seems to cost over 2,000.00 to fix the issue. the actuator motor, the heater core, and the blower door all continue to be affected. even after repair it seems that it will only work for about 1 year before it needs to be fixed again. just outside of the warranty period. we have replaced the heater system 3 times and it just did it again. research on line shows that this is a significant issue with many of the ford products that use the heater set up like the taurus. it may also include the for f150 truck with a similar problem.

Beginning shortly after my car was out of its 3,000 mile used car warranty, when car was parked and locked the horn began to go off anytime anywhere - up to 5-6 times a day. why is this a safety concern? because the only way to avoid waking ourselves and neighbors up at night or having car alarm go off multiple times during day at work was to have a ford tech disconnect the horn! i did so after the problem continued for many months - and now, with horn off, it still continues (lights blink and flash), just noiselessly. incredible! only workaround besides disconnecting horn was to leave the car unlocked - not an option.

I have a 2002 taurus where the passenger side floor was getting sopping wet when the a/c was used. i determined the problem was back-flow through the high density foam seal that surrounds the drain spout. the drain spout goes through a hole in the firewall, and black high density foam seals between the hole and the evaporator drain spout. because the drain spout is more or less horizontal, instead of dripping off the end of the spout, the water was flowing back along the bottom of the spout toward the firewall, then wicking through the black foam back into the passenger compartment, resulting in a soaked passenger side floor. ford offered to remove my dash to find the problem for a cost of $800 in labor alone. this seems to me like a defect sence there are thounds online having the same issue. i fell that ford need to fix this defect for free.i do have a bumper to bumper coverage that does not cover this can of repair. i am unable to use the ac or vent without have water under the passenger side rug which gets so wet that it takes weeks to dry out. i just decovered that my wife's 2005 taurus is having the same problem as my 2002. reguards, scott adelstein

My taurus 2002, three days after i bought it used, exhibited behavior just like that described in pe12005 for 2005-2006 model years. i had to limp home, alternating between neutral and drive, because the engine was stuck at approx 3500 rpm. turning the engine off and on did not cure this. after about 20 harrowing minutes during rush hour driving through a not-so-great section of detroit, the problem went away. ford techs could find nothing; the problem has not recurred. however, based on pe12005, i will have the position of the cruise control cable checked in case that was (or could again be) the culprit.

I have a 2002 ford taurus sedan, and while driving about a month ago i pushed gas pedal to accelerate, the throttles became stuck causing the cars engine to speed up to 80 mph in a 30 mph speed zone. i had to apply as much pressure to the breaks as i could to control the car, and finally i was able to pull into a gas station, with the engine still racing, put the car into park and turn off the car. i was so afraid i just set in the car for about 10 minutes to collect my thoughts. i open the hood to see if anything had broken or came apart but could not find any unusual. i turn the car back on, the engine was still racing, i looked for the accelerator cable and found it. however, i notice that the small plastic o-ring on the cable used as a stop was caught on the corner of the air intake housing. i pulled back on the cable releasing it. when i let go of the cable it went back to its normal position, the engine stopped racing and slowed to a normal idle. i crept back home were the car set for two weeks before i had the nerves to drive it again. it happen again on 3/14/12 when i pushed the accelerator pedal to pass a truck on i-70w in columbus, oh.

This is my second complaint for a second related incident. after taking my car to the dealer to check my ford taurus for sudden acceleration 5 weeks earlier, the following occurred. my seventeen year old son called me from the parking lot of his high school clearly panicked that upon placing the car in gear, the gas pedal was sucked to the floor of his ford taurus and accelerated wildly out of control. this was the third time that this had occurred but this one was a near miss with a number of other vehicles. sure enough, the gas pedal was stuck to the floor and there was no way to free it up. we had the car towed to varsity ford in ann arbor, mi (invoice # focs420646). the following language is taken from the service order; customer states gas pedal stuck wide open, had to be towed in, check and advise. found throttle cable binding and holding the accelerator lever down. ordered the part and replaced the cable. note the old cable had water in it and froze (this was the service guy's speculation), that's why it was intermittent. recommended not power washing the cable end (we had never power washed the car and we are the original owners). i have retained the replaced parts for your or any other entity's inspection. total cost of this repair: $125.25; total cost of the previous evaluation 5 weeks earlier: $164.01; the cost of peace of mind that your car is not going to accelerate out of control: priceless. 1. how do i get my money back? 2. how do i know that they corrected the issue? the discussions i am reading are indicating a cruise control issue. varsity ford replaced an accelerator cable.

My seventeen year old son had told me previously that the gas pedal had been sucked down to the floor and the car accelerated wildly. at first, i dismissed it as the floor mat getting tangled in the gas pedal. but then i experienced it myself and it was a wild and crazy experience to get the car under control without any advance notice that it was going to take off from a dead stop after putting the car in gear. i took the car to varsity ford in ann arbor, mi (invoice # focs417402) and here is the service write up language; customer states gas pedal will stick to the floor intermittently, check and advise. checked the eecv system and road test inspected the throttle and cable and found absolutely no problem that would cause this concern, however, recommended some pm tune-up work. replaced air filter as maintenance. this was the first incident. i will fill out another complaint form for the second incident.

I had noticed that my accelerator would get stuck just lightly pushing on the pedal once the car warmed up it would not happen but it had happened all winter long. whenever you would start it up and start to drive the accelerator would get stuck full throttle and you would have to put it into neutral and shut the car off, open the hood and pull back on the cable that controls the throttle. i called ford and notified them of it in case of a possible recall and they said they have never heard of this problem and that it is just a common failure then prompted me to bring it in for service at a tune of $350.00. i of course did not because to me that is a manufacturer defect that should never have happened. i have owned many cars, mostly foreign and have never had any such problems. but this car is plauged with issues. faulty accelerators, faulty brakes and rotors warping frequently for no reason, sensors failing, oil pressure problems, oil smell inside the cabin at sitting idle, camshaft synchronizer failure. ford needs to be called on this because it is a major saftey concern. i live on a disability income, cannot afford to buy a new car yet for the amount of repairs ive had to complete on this car i could have bought near new. please do something about the accelerator problems and possibly look into the other problems associated with this particular taurus. ford sold a shady product and is not supporting it and making the consumer pay for their manufacturing defects.

2002 ford taurus almost got on fire on 11/2/11. there was gray smoke and horrible buring smell coming out of the front of ford car. called the police dept, and came and found out a belt broke.... if it were not for the police persons that came to let me know what the problem is and what to do, along with the fact (and luck) i had that i was not driving on the street with speed, the entire vehicle could have caught on fire and produce even more damages for myself and anyone that could be around. ford, tk, and firestone has the details of all problems on this vehicle and what has been repaired.

On may 15, 2011 i was using my 2002 ford taurus to run errands . after driving for a short period of time i became aware of a strange odor, all of the gauges appeared normal, and there were no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. however, i was concerned enough to get a second opinion. fortunately, the facility that normally services my vehicle is located less than 2 miles from my home. after visually inspecting the vehicle and checking all fluids the mechanic proceeded to test drive the vehicle, attempting to duplicate the smell. the car only traveled a short distance before the left rear tire blew out. further investigation, on a lift, revealed a broken left rear coil spring. the jagged end of the spring was protruding into the inner sidewall of the tire, having caused it to rapidly deflate. the mechanic then informed me that the smell i experienced was most likely the broken spring rubbing on the sidewall of the tire. to my astonishment i was also told that it was a fairly common event and there is the potential for failure of the remaining 3 coil springs. i am very concerned about the continued use of this vehicle, i am well aware of the hazards associated with the sudden deflation of a tire at road speed. i have attempted to contact ford motor company, because i was also told by my mechanic that at one time ford had a recall and a campaign to remedy such a problem. to date, i have not been satisfied with the results.

Upon backing my 2002 ford taurus out of the driveway, my boyfriend heard a loud pop and discovered the front driver's side tire was flat. upon taking off the tire, he discovered the spring coil broke and punctured a hole in the tire. apparently this is a known issue and ford has not issued a recall. i have to replace the spring coil and tire.

My car was parked at my office. at 5:15pm i got into my car to leave work. i put the car into reverse and as soon as i hit the gas to back out the drivers side front tire lost all of its air. i went into the shop at my office and got my mechanic who brought the portable air compressor to try and refill the tire so we could drive the car into the shop. the tire would not take any air so my mechanic got the jack and proceeded to jack up the car to put my spare tire on. as soon as he jacked the car up i heard metal hit the concrete. when i looked under the car i noticed that a piece of metal was sticking half in my tire and half out. once we got the tire off the vehicle we realized that it was a piece of the coil spring that had broken off and went through my tire. upon further investigation we also found that the sway bar link was cracked.
