Water leaks into the heater blower box when raining and then to the passenger side floor inside the cabin. the water has shorted out the blower motor resistor and the blower motor. this also caused rust to form on the fan, the motor and resistor pack. *tr

I own a 2002 ford taurus and understand many people have had this same issue. my a/c blower motor stopped working and was filled with water with traces of rust. i replaced the blower control switch, the blower resistor board, and removed and rebuilt the blower motor. the auto parts store i bought the replacement components from (directly across the street from the ford dealer) tells me this is a common occurrence. *tr

Every time it rains heavy, i end up with water on the passenger floor. the defrost blower motor has shorted out three times due to this problem. i looked online and found many many complaints from ford taurus owners. due to some kind of defect, water gets in the heating system and ends up on the passenger floor. it also makes the defrost blower motor and resistor go out. *tr

Reference ford tsb #04-15-3. i have a 2002 ford taurus ses with only 39,000 miles on the odometer and the blower motor had to be replaced because of water leaking from the bottom of the windshield into the blower motor. i was told by a local ford dealer that there is a recall #03v087000 on this problem, but it expired in 2007, so i had no choice but to purchase a new motor for $133.97, ford part #1f1z-19805-aa. this is evidently an ongoing problem. the internet site i visited had 7 pages of complaints about this same situation. this becomes a safety issue because visibility is impaired due to the fact that now you do not have any window defrosters. i am writing this complaint mainly to see if ford won't extend the above mentioned recall notice. *tr

Heater fan blower only worked on highest speed only. i found out from a service technician that the problem was not a control switch, but was a resistor network p/n f6dz 19a706 aa. i replaced the part and problem was fixed (temporarily). same problem returned 5 months later (9/26/08). more inquiring at the dealer revealed the problem source. water leaking through a hole near cabin air filter. technical service bulletin tsb 04-15-3 explains the remedy and repair instructions. replaced resistor for second time and installed weatherstrip 4f1z 54022a54 aa, and panel 4f1z 54018a16 baa and applied silicone sealant in the leak hole. did not replace the blower motor at this time since it seemed to be working. now 1/25/09 the resistor failed for the 3rd time. will be replacing the resistor and blower motor since it appears the blower is shorted and is causing repeated failure of the resistor network. i argued with the dealer wb lincoln mercury that it should be a recall, but it apparently was not classified as such. one ford technician i spoke with at this dealer said he had repaired about a couple hundred of these same defects himself. reference recall number 03v087000. *tr

Blower motor noise, and leaking on the firewall. the leaking started in 2008, i had the trough above the firewall and the blower motor replaced, and now the blower motor makes a loud vibrating sound. my car is a 2002 ford taurus ses and it only had about 50,000 miles on it when it started leaking, and now only has 72,000 miles on it, with the blower motor making these sounds. i am filing a formal complaint. existing recall number 03v087000 and a second complaint number is 10184014. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford taurus. the contact stated that water leaks into the vehicle through the windshield, which shortens the circuit in the floorboard. secondly, she discovered that the heating system was inoperative. she has not had the vehicle inspected to determine the cause of the failure. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer in reference to nhtsa campaign id number 03v087000 (visibility:windshield). finally, the contact stated that the front coil spring fractured and caused the ball joints and the front passenger tire to fail. the springs were replaced, but the manufacturer did not provide her with any financial assistance. the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 101,000.

2992 ford taurus ses heater blower switch and seal required replacement ford dealer had tsb on subject and new parts numbers to replace parts upgraded parts. cost $600.00 ford knows they have problem and redesigned the parts, but will not stand up and cover cost. i have owned a honda and toyota and both would have helped with similar problem. it is no wonder why they have become the top sellers in usa. i will never purchase another ford product ever. they need to stand up and become a auto manufacturer, not weisel word around the problem. if the cause of the problem was me then i fix if they cause then they should fix. *tr

The fan blower motor on my dad's 2003 ford taurus se with only 33,000 miles and on my 2002 ford taurus ses with 82,000 miles both failed recently. my dad passed away july 7th and i was attempting to seal the car when a prospective buyer mentioned that the fan wasn't working. i checked it out and it work sporadically. i ended up taking it to hiller ford in franklin wi after talking to ford - they wanted it diagnosed. the dealer replaced the blower motor, resistor and rain hat which cost $520. the day of my dad's funeral, the blower motor on my car began to work sporadically. i took my car to hiller ford and authorized the repairs today. the estimate is $429 to replace the blower motor, resistor and a seal. the dealer service manager stated that it appears there is a leak in the post for the windshield and water was getting behind the dash soaking the blower motor unit. when i contacted ford on august 22, 2008, they claim neither car was subject to the 2003 windshield replacement recall (nhtsa campaign id # 03v087000). i find it hard to believe that ford is offering no relief because they claim the cars weren't subject to the recall and the windshield leak isn't related to the blower motor going bad. i'm out almost $1000 in repair costs and i've seen many comments from other owners who have had issues with the blower motor and leaks into the passenger compartment. *tr

The heater/ac blower of my 2002 ford taurus only works on high. i went to the dealership today and received an estimate to repair will cost me $660.00. this estimate includes a fix for a known design flaw. evidently water leaks into the vehicle from somewhere around where the windshield wipers are causing damage to the resistor and motor. i need a blower motor, updated (fix) cowl, and resistor. *tr

Vehicle was running fine. next day, no heat. i had a mechanic backflush the line after which i was able to get some(very little) heat for about 1 month just to get me through the winter. following year, i had to have the vehicle backflushed again. same results, but now the ac is staying on with the vent on and i have no heat any where but at the floor boards and that is very little to none. a mechanic advised me that it is the heater core and will need to be replaced. other complaints on the heater core sound to be a result of an incident i had: when i bought this vehicle, i had a problem within 30 days of ownership where water was leaking under the hood from outside. i was charged for replacing a faulty cowlick. the dealership told me that this problem would continue to happen weekly when the car got wet if the cowlick was not replaced. when i questioned how this was possible that i had this problem and they never had to replace this part before; i was told the vehicle never got wet while in their ownership,(open lot with no garages to protect vehicles from rain). i had to pay out of pocket to have the part replaced. *tr

The heat/ac control on my 2002 ford taurus suddenly started working only on the highest setting, and the air is neither hot nor cold. after doing some research on the internet, i found that i am not the only person to have this problem. the floor on the passenger side front also becomes damp after washing the vehicle or a hard rain. i also have rust inside the blower motor itself, which i am suspecting is from the water leak. *tr

 1. driving in heavy rain, washing the car. 2. the blower motor resistor fails, usually within 2-3 weeks after replacement, causing the fan to work only on the highest speed. because there is no air circulation, windshield fogging becomes a major problem on cold mornings or when driving in rainy conditions. to overcome this the fan has to run on the highest speed, but then the noise increases which makes the ride uncomfortable in the long run. also the fast, constant blowing of air is distracting and unpleasant. 3. the resistor was replaced twice; this time will also replace the blower motor. the old parts are unavailable. *tr

When i purchased the car, the low setting on the blower motor didn't work. i had the resistor replaced, and the motor worked for a while. then i noticed water on the passenger side floorboard. water was entering the passenger side, behind the dashboard, through a leak near the air intake of the blower motor. the water has rusted the blower motor, causing it to blow the motor resistors and short out the motor. it has also caused water damage on the passenger side floor. i had to take the vehicle to the dealer to have the leak sealed and the blower motor replaced. i am currently waiting for the work to be done, so i don't have an idea of what it will cost yet. i will request that they return the old blower motor to me. *tr

Ford heater automobile: ford taurus, 2002, mileage: 54,700 subject: design defect, heater motor installation background: air intake for the heater and air conditioning system is located between the hood and the front windshield. rain flows into this area and passes into the heater ducting. some of this water flows into the plastic housing for the blower motor causing early failure. potential hazard: early failure of the motor may result in the inability of the vehicle heating system to remove condensation from the interior of the windshield. in addition, the failure of the heating system during cold weather would not melt snow and ice that may accumulate on the windshield. problem: the blower motor is located under the right hand dashboard housed in a molded plastic assembly. this location is one of the lowest points in the heating system therefore water accumulates in the motor housing plastic assembly submerging the rear one-third of the motor in water. this results in early failure of the motor due to water contamination, as there is not a provision to drain water from the plastic housing. comments: this is a known engineering defect as ford sealed the housing with a rubberized compound to prevent water from the heating system flowing onto the floor. corrective action: mandate ford motor company to recall the 2002 ford taurus and other years and models with a similar system to install a drain in the heater motor plastic housing in order to drain the water from the assembly. i have retained the failed blower motor and plastic assembly for your review, if required, in order to observe the results of this defective design. note: i could not delete an error in equipment on the next window as this heater motor was installed as original equipment on the ford. please disregard the equipment window. *jb updated 01/07/08. *lj

We purchased a 2002 ford taurus ses new in 2002. the blower motor for heating and air conditioning recently quit working. i took it to the dealership for repair. i was advised that water had shorted out the blower motor causing it to burn up and they had to replace the blower motor, blower resistor and installed a rainhat extension kit. i was advised that the kit was developed by ford to address the problem of water entering the blower motor and shorting it out. i was billed $374.37 to repair what is obviously a manufacter's defect. i feel that ford should have repaired this defect under an extended warrenty as it is obviously a design defect. the car has been garaged when not it use since it was new. it presently has about 49,500 miles on it.

The blower motor on my 2002 ford taurus works intermittently. the ford dealer claims there is nothing wrong since the blower worked when the car was in the shop. when it happend again the dealer told me that there was a bad motor. *ak resistor and replaced it. now after the car was sitting for 3 days in the drive way the blower motor quit again. the dealer tells me there is nothing they can do unless it happens when the car is in the shop and they can duplicate the problem. without the blower neither the a/c nor the heater will work and depending on the weather the windows will fog up creating and unsafe driving condition.

2002 ford taurus sel: the heater blower motor is shot, we have replaced it twice so it made me do some online research. turns out this is very common with the taurus and we can't afford to fix it on our dime again. we pull the motor out and there is water inside it. we've tried finding a leak or source of the water but no luck. this is getting costly and there is an existing recall #03v087000 for other taurus models, ours should be included also. problem started with 40k miles and now with 55k it still a ongoing problem. *tr

No visibility on cold/snow days due to heater/defroster failure. having zero visibility is a very serious safety issue. numerous taurus owners have indicated the same problem. the heater resistor fails due to water getting into the blower motor compartment and shorting out the resistor. this is a faulty design by the manufacturer. my 2002 taurus had the heater resistor replaced approximately 3 weeks ago, and has now quit again. since the original replacement, we have experienced several strong rain storms. (although not a safety issue, the water also comes into the passenger side floor board causing mold and odor problems) through research via taurus owner websites, several owners have also experienced heater blower motor failure, in addition to the resistor failure. this is not a normal maintenance type issue, and due to the zero visibility issue, should be considered a safety issue.

*tr

This is an apparent problem with many of the ford taurus's where the heater just stops working. each time it stops working it seems to cost over 2,000.00 to fix the issue. the actuator motor, the heater core, and the blower door all continue to be affected. even after repair it seems that it will only work for about 1 year before it needs to be fixed again. just outside of the warranty period. we have replaced the heater system 3 times and it just did it again. research on line shows that this is a significant issue with many of the ford products that use the heater set up like the taurus. it may also include the for f150 truck with a similar problem.
