| Dt*: the contact stated while driving 70mph on the interstate the vehicle rear ended another vehicle and crashed into a guard rail. the airbag failed to deploy and the driver's seatbelt failed to restraint the occupant. the driver's head hit the windshield and head injuries were sustained. there was a police report filed at the scene. the vehicle has not been inspected. | |||

| On october 28,2005 i was vacationing in hilton head s.c. i rented a 2005 ford taurus from avis rental at the savannah georgia airport. on october 30, at approximately 10:40 am i was proceeding westbound on u.s. 278 toward highway 170. i was traveling approximately 50 - 55 mph in a 55 mph zone. at that time a 2002 kia 4 door came off private property of the st. gregorey's catholic church across the two westbound lanes. i activated the brakes and swerved to miss the vehicle however we collided. my vehicle hit theirs broadside at my estimate of 25 - 30 mph at impact. the impact was to the front of my vehicle to the driver's side of their vehicle. at the time of the collision, the anti- lock brakes on my vehicle locked so i was unable to steer out of the path of the kia. at the time of the collision neither the driver or passenger airbags deployed on my vehicle. the driver of the kia was airlifted to savannah, georgia and her husband was transported to the same hospital by ground ambulance. my wife was transported by ambulance to carolina coastal hospital in bluffton, s.c. i sent this information about 2 weeks ago but have had no acknowledgement of it being received so i am resubmitting it. *jb | |||

| On 10/28/05 i rented a ford taurus at the airport in savannah, georgia while vacationing in hilton head, south carolina. on 10/30/05 i was driving westbound in the slow lane on u.s. 278, a four lane highway divided by a 40 -60 ft grass divider in route to beuford s.c. my speed was about 50 -55 mph with a posted limit of 55 mph. about 150 feet in front of me, i caught a glimpse of a vehicle (2002 kia) leaving the driveway of the st. gregory the great catholic church directly in the path of my vehicle. i applied the brakes hard, swerved to the left in an effort to steer around the vehicle. the brakes of the taurus locked up and i left about 60 feet of skid marks on the roadway at which time i hit the kia broadside at the driver's door. i would estimate my speed at the time of the collision to be about 25 - 30 mph. the kia crossed the divider and two eastbound lanes prior to stopping on the south side of the roadway shoulder. at the time of the collision neither my air bag nor my wife's air bag deployed. my wife suffered injuries to her shoulder, neck and knee. i suffered injuries to left wrist and right upper arm. the female driver of the kia was airlifted to savannah, georgia for treatment and was still in the hospital according to the insurance company on 11/9/05. the male passenger was transported by ambulance to savannah also but i am unaware of his condition. i feel this vehicle and other models of this nature need to be examined. this information was noted on the accident form i prepared for avis rentals at hilton head s.c. on 10/30/05. *nm | |||

| Safety restraint system failure in 2005 ford taurus front crash sensor failure at 54,000 miles. is a common failure seems due to salt corrosion in north east. disables air bag function. no accident or deployment in this case. it is not good design that there are many failures of this in taurus's. *tr | |||

| 1. was backing up from a parking space and the airbag in steering wheel just went off. did not hit anything. first time it happened. 2. contusion of face, scalp, and neck except eyes, contusion of hand and arm, hypertension. 3. took the vehicle to the local ford dealer, ford motor company requested the module be sent to them before they would replace the airbags. to this date ford has not fixed the vehicle or given any reason why this happened. we feel the vehicle is not safe to drive and even if they repair it we will still not feel safe driving for fear of airbag coming out and hurting us again without any impact. *tr | |||

| Tl*- while driving the 2005 ford taurus at 20-25 mph in icy conditions the contact's vehicle crashed on the front driver's side of the vehicle into a wall attempting to miss striking a second vehicle who had braked suddenly. after the vehicle struck the wall it continued to slide out of control and struck a third vehicle head on about 20 yards away, which was stationary because it was involved in another crash. the driver's side airbag did not deploy. although the contact was wearing a seat belt, he was not sure if the pretensioner deployed. the vehicle sustained severe front end damage and was not operational. the contact was taken to the hospital with bruising. the contact has pictures and will receive the police report. the failure mileage and current were both 89000. *ak | |||

| Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was involved in a crash and the passenger side air bag did not deploy. the vehicle was impacted in the front end on the driver's side. the passenger suffered injuries to the sternum and head area. the passengers in the vehicle were all wearing safety restraints which prohibited any further injuries. the police were at the scene and filed a written report. the vehicle was inspected by the insurance company and deemed totaled. | |||

| Dt: the contact states there was a popping noise in the steering when turning. the dealership could not find where the noise was coming from. however the suspension worked erratically. there was a tear where the passenger's side airbag was located ,and the light indicates it was off. the dealership was unaware that there was a tear under the airbag and why it happened. also, they did not check to see if there was an airbag in the vehicle.*ak | |||

| Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that the air bag failed due to the front crash sensor. the warranty is valid for 5 years or 50,000 miles and sensor is not covered by the warranty. the repair cost was $400. the dealer and the ford manufacturer informed the contact that as long as the light illuminated that the air bags would not deploy if an accident occurred. the failure mileage was 65,400. updated 10/29/09. *lj updated 10/29/09.*jb | |||

| I have a 2005 ford taurus which is equipped with a passenger airbag off feature. according to the owner's manual, the car is supposed to determine if a child weighs enough for the airbag to be deployed and if not the airbag is supposed to be disabled and a light near the heat/air controls will light up stating pass airbag off. this feature was one of the deciding factors when we purchased this vehicle. recently i had an accident when my vehicle left the road striking a utility pole. the airbag deployed with my barely 60 pound daughter in the front seat. we all know that airbags are dangerous, however many parents depend on this special feature that is supposed to automatically turn off the airbag when their small child or carseat is in the front. | |||
