ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
04/05/2012110000
Happened twice within fifteen minutes- driving on residential street when engine started revving very high. was able to use brakes to maintain control and then press hard on gas pedal to stop the revving. the cruise control is inoperative (took to shop, they reported the cable is unattached).

On three seperate ocassions, while driving between 30-40 mph, the throttle stuck. i was not using cruise control in any of these cases. it was difficult to get the car to slow down - required extreme brake pressure - when i shifted into neutral, the engine rpm went well above 3000 rpm. i shut off the engine, waited a minute or two, and restarted the car. everything seemed to be completely normal. this happened two more times over the next several weeks. in each case when i shut off the engine and restarted it, all seemed to be normal. i took the car to a local auto mechanic, and he was unable to replicate my experience. he said he suspected the problem was related to the cruise control, and that a repairs could be several hundred dollars. or he could simply disconnect the cruise control. i chose the later.

I was pulling into a gas station and starting to slow down, but the car kept accelerating. i applied the breaks and put the car in park, but the engine was racing. i pushed down on the gas pedel very hard serveral times before the car stopped the excessive acceleration. another time i was driving on the freeway at about 60 mph and the car started to accelerate, but i also pushed down very hard several times before the acceleration stopped.

I own a 2005 ford 500 limited sedan. within the past 6-months or so, ive experienced surging of my engine during idle; when shifting into reverse or drive; and in gear with the brake applied. i wasn't sure how to proceed other than a full diagnostic, which wasn't a possibility at the time due to cost. this situation sounds similar to what i read in the news about an investigation into these models. the surging was enough to get my attention as out of the ordinary and hopefully a recall will be announced soon.

The throttle on my ford taurus 2005 has been sticking off and on for the pass year. my wife was driving it yesterday with my baby daugther and she had to cut the ignition off to stop the car.

The issue started as a throttle sticking closed. this required a harder than normal push to get the throttle to open and increase engine speed. this eventually turned into the throttle sticking open and not returning to idle. the on the road fix was to push quickly on the throttle pedal a couple times to get the throttle to release to idle. this also necessitated riding the brakes to keep the cars speed under control. over time the issue became worse, with the throttle sticking open more often. what i found when investigating the issue was that the cruise control cable fitting at the throttle linkage was disconnected. the fitting would snap back onto the proper place but was very loose and would pop back off easily when the throttle was actuated. i used a plastic tie-wrap to tighten the locking mechanism in place. another item that i found was a lot of varnish where the throttle butterfly met the throttle body (inside the throttle body) at/near idle. this contributed to the sticking closed/open issue. i used carb cleaner while the engine was running to clean the throttle body around the butterfly, and outside the throttle body on the linkage. the issue at this point has not returned. i do feel there is an issue with the connector at the end of the cruise control cable. since it seems to be affecting others about the same mileage, it seems to be a wear issue of an under designed connector. i dont know if the varnish build up (amount) is out of the ordinary, but have not had the sticking throttle issue on any other car i have owned. i could see this causing an accident for others that may not understand the mechanics of what is happening.

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that the rpms would increase to 4000 and the engine warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. a local mechanic changed the fuel filter, but the failure recurred. neither the dealer nor manufacturer were notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. rvk

2005 ford taurus - throttle sticks, vehicle will speed up without pushing on the gas. this has occurred numerous times, quite scary regardless of location or speed. this has occurred in town and on the interstate. vehicle must be put in nuetral and the gas peddle must be pushed to the floor to get vehicle back under control.

Numerous times, when the foot was removed the accelarator, the engine did not return to idle but contiued as if your foot was still on the accelarator.would have to apply brakes and get off the road. extremely hard to stop if going very fast. kill the engine, raise the hood and barely touch throttle conrol where the accelarator cable is attached and it would snap back to the idle position. this has happened at least 7 or 8 times. extremly dangerous!

My car accererated starting at 30 mph and kept climbing. i got it stopped with much effort in the middle of the road. when i restarted it, the engine raced uncontrolably. it was checked by my boyfriend (a auto service service manager for 20 years) and found the cruise cable was loose but holding the accererator. he disconnected the cable to the side and drove it ok. then the cable slide back into place and it did it again. it you check the chat rooms you will find that many people have had the same problem!!!. the cost of repair has kept me from getting it repaired and the dealers refuse to even goodwill repair it, knowing that it was a common problem. i am afraid to drive the car, but it is the only vehicle i have.

Our companmy has 2 of the 2005 ford taurus. both bought new from ford dealer. within weeks of each other in year 2009 both experienced major problem. the vehicle would accelerate while driving and while at stop. driver could not brake to deactivate cruise or put car in nuetral to slow down. rpms reved very high. driver had to keep both feet on brake to keep car from moving when at stop. both taken to ford dealership for work. different things were done to prevent. i have recently read an article on investigation into this same problem. i felt it important to relay this information.

On several ocassions, vehicle was trying to surge forward while at a stop sign. engine was reving very high; had to press down really hard on the brakes to prevent vehicle from surging forward. took it to ford dealer (bankston ford, fort worth tx) who said that the 'diagnosis of cruise control not working and purchase of a new cruise control cable.'. i paid $190.00' to the repair, but it still seems to occur sporadically.

First, i want to say that this vehicle is well mantained and serviced on a regular basis. it was a pleasent summer day but had more of a autumn feeling wether. i was driving on the interstate in east tennessee, i had just merge onto the interstate and had been driving for maybe 10 minutes. i slowed down for traffic to about 40 mph as i crest a hill. when i stepped back onto the gas (going down hill now), i felt the car shift into 4 gear. i then felt, and heard a pop similiar to a blowout, but in reality it was the car sliding out of gear. i had only managed to reach about 50mph when the car stop accelearating, (i put on my hazards) i was trying to coast to a safe place, but the constrution projects made no place to pull off. within 5 seconds, a car traveling behind me was bumped by a tractor trailor and was knocked into me. my ford mechanic says the transmission is shot and the catalytic converter went out (was that the popping noise? i wonder.) $3500 to fix this problem. i have google 05 transmission problems and have found numerous over 500 problems that have to do with. i don't know whether ford was trying to save a few dollars, or if they were trying to save fuel mileage, but this transmission is a serious problem. i will not buy another ford if this problem doesn't get resolve by ford recalling these transmissions. last laugh, insurance compainies will repair any car to the quality it was just before the wreck (no better, no worse.). since my transmission went out before the car wreck, they can replace it, ergo... the insurance covers the body work, but will not cover the transmission. my question to ford is does someone have to die before you fix your errors. my father worked at ford for 22 years; he would be.... really disappointed to see what ford pass for quality.

Stopped at light, car started to rev rpm's. could not hold on breaks enough to stop moving. went through red light around two cars as speed reached about 70mph. both feet on breaks, could smell them burning, got to side of road and slammed into park and turned car off. wow, the scariest thing i have ever experienced. if there was heavy traffic someone would have been killed, no doubt in my mind .happened on thruway two weeks earlier, only lasted a minute, thought the mat was stuck, it was not. called ford and they could not help as there is no recall. took it to ford dealer, they disconnect crusie cable. don't know if this was really the problem, just got it back. i am very fearful to drive it, because you never know when it will do it again. please someone make ford wake up about this problem before someone is killed. i wouldn't feel right trading it in, for fear of someone else getting killed.

I just recently purchased a 2005 ford taurus and it was running fine for like 2 days. then the cruise stopped working a few days later the accelerator begin to stick. i was going about 30 and suddenly the car began to take off on its on and i nearly hit the car in front of me. i had to steering off the road and pressing the brakes was very hard. this seems to be a trend for the car and is extremely dangerous!! someone should not have to die for this to be recalled!!

Transmission went out on my 2005 ford taurus sel. there is less than 65,000 miles on this car. the manufacturer should issue a recall on the transmission of this model year. transmission issues are the number one complaint on all the websites i visited. i now have to pay $3,000+ to fix the transmission on a car worth $7,500 - this is not a good quality vehicle.

While driving home from work in my 2005 ford taurus i experienced the following sudden acceleration problem: i was stopped in heavy traffic with my foot on the brake. i then felt the car start to vibrate and the car started to lurch forward. i pressed harder on the brakes and noticed the rpm's were climbing from 900 to over 1500. i tried restarting the engine but when i put the car in neutral or park the rpm's suddenly accelerated to over 4000 and climbing. the engine was screaming and there was a burning smell. i tried tapping the gas pedal to see if it was stuck but that didn't help. as i couldn't pull off due to bumper to bumper traffic over the bridge, i had to ride the brakes all the way home. once home we popped the hood and found that a throttle cable had come off for no reason. what angers me besides that i could have died or been seriously injured causing a major crash, is that there is no safetly. if the cable comes off why is it accelerating, it should have slowed or not moved as it would have been in a neutral position. why hasn't this been recalled?! it seems to be a continuously reported problem for this car. how is it that only the 2005 taurus model has absolutely no recalls but every year around 2005 has a recall?!? what takes so damn long to recall this obviously dangerous defect?!? i have taken video of my ride home so it proves that no, i did not have my foot on the gas, no, i did not have a car mat stuck under the gas pedal, no i did not hit the gas pedal thinking it was the brake!!!!!!!! even with the cable reattached there is still occasional unintended rpm increase and engine surges. this is damn scarey to drive and wonder when it will happen again. get this recalled already!!!

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that they started smelling gas and when they looked under the hood, they found that the sixth spark plug was stripped and. a piece of the spark plug went into the core or the cylinder of the engine and caused the engine to fail. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the vin was not available at the time of the complaint.the contact was not aware of the mileage on the vehicle, only that is under 100000.rl

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving approximately 70 mph on a busy highway, the engine began to rev excessively high with a loss of engine power. the contact applied the accelerator pedal numerous times, and the vehicle would not accelerate. immediately, the gear was shifted from over drive to the drive position. the failure continued and the engine was turned off. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and towed to an authorized dealer. the vehicle had not been diagnosed at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage was approximately 105,000. js

I am writing you to notify you of the problems i have had with my 2005 ford taurus (vin # [xxx]). the car currently has approximately 66,000 miles on it. i took my car for service and the technician notified me that the timing gear gasket was leaking coolant. the technician knew about this problem and that it is common for ford engines to start leaking at this spot around 60,000 miles. the dealer wants approximately $700.00 to fix the leak. another problem i had with the car happened last winter when the check engine light came on and i took the car in for service and was told this was a common problem with ford and there was a technical service bulletin on it. a tune up was performed at a cost to me of $416.91. i was told that if the tune up didn't solve the problem then the computer would need to be re-flashed at the cost of $200.00. i previously sent ford motor company an e-mail about this but never received a response. i don't feel it is right for a vehicle to have these sorts of problems at only 66,000 miles and i believe that the gasket is a poor design. the dealer advised me that he was going to put on an after market gasket and it would be of better quality than the one that it in their now. these problems substantially impairs both the use and value of my car. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tr

My 2005 ford taurus seems to have a mysterious problem that two dealerships and my mechanic cannot recreate. the problem does not occur on a regular basis. the problem is when the brake pedal is depressed, the abs light and check brake signal flashes, and then the engine light comes on, the battery light comes on and the car stalls...stops dead in its track. if does not happen on a cold start only after the car has been running during the day. i took it to one ford dealership and they replaced engine intake value. that seemed to work for about 1 year. one year to the day, it starts again. the next ford dealership had it for about 5 days and could not re-create the problem. however, they replace the air intake valve, spark plugs and a new belt. the problem occurred 5 days later but much worse. the car stalled 4 times in one trip. the following day, it worked on the cold start and 4 hours later, it stalled twice going 1500 feet. there is something wrong with the car no one can fix it. the diagnostic test machine shows no error. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. the contact stated that the vehicle will only start after 4-5 attempts. the vehicle also stalls at any given moment and speed. the most recent failure occurred while driving 55 mph, but the vehicle can stall when coming to a stop as well. once the vehicle stalls, he places it in neutral and it restarts immediately. the contact believes this is a safety issue because the vehicle can stall on the highway. the current mileage is 53,000 and failure mileage was 45,000.

I have a 2005 ford taurus with a little over 68,000 miles. while i was driving the car began to speed up on its own and became very difficult to stop. i would apply the brake but the car would not slow down very easily and i was almost in an accident because of this. i managed to pull the car off to the side of the road and placed it into park. even as the car was idling in park the rpms continued to go up. the car had to be towed to a local certified mechanic, who determined the problem to be the idle control solenoid. this incident was terrifying and i do not feel the car is safe anymore.
08/15/201070000
At around 70,000 miles noted that the engine rpms would go up without acceleration periodically, and the car became difficult to control. took it in, found that the cruise control cable was disconnected and after replacement the problem was solved.
