Vehicle accelerated unexpectedly and speed continued to increase even though i removed my foot from the accelerator. i put the vehicle in neutral - the engine was running at this point at nearly 4000 rpm - and pressed quickly on the accelerator. this stopped the acceleration and the engine returned to normal rpm. this scenario was repeated two more times before i arrived at my destination. *tr

The transmission of my vehicle, without warning or prior history of failure, acted like i'd moved the gear into neutral while driving the legal speed limit on the interstate. engine would rev, but nothing happened. coasted to a stop on the side of the road without the ability to accelerate or move the vehicle to a safer location. there are at least 150 people who have had a similar experience as me but ford will not issue a recall despite a clear fault with the transmission for this make and model. http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/taurus/2005/transmission/transmission_failure.shtml

I was in the process of parking my car and when i put it into park the engine revved up and had to turn off the car as it would not throttle down. the second time i was driving, was applying brakes and started to drive and engine revved up, had to brake and then turn car off. third time i was starting vehicle and engine revved up, had to turn off. the cruise control cable was replaced on the vehicle less than a year after i purchased. *tr

After getting off the highway my car begin accelerating on its own. while applying the brake the car remained at 1500 rpms. i put the gear in park and the car went to just over 4000 rpms. i put the car in neutral and it remained around 4000 rpms. this has not caused an accident, but it is very dangerous and not normal. i contacted ford and they told me that they are not aware of this particular problem with 2005 ford tauruses. *tr

I bought my taurus 2005 se at the end of february 2012 at mileage of approximately 81,600. it has occurred twice already that the car kept accelerating after i fully released the gas pedal. both of them occurred on us hw1. the first time was in may and i wasn't sure what was happening at that time because the traffic wasn't stopped completely, before i could fully identify the problem, the traffic started moving fast again. the second time was last saturday when i was driving from princeton to new york, my wife and 2 year old daughter were both in the car. the traffic was jamming and stopped completely at some point, then i had a really hard time in stopping my car. this time i had a clear feeling that the car was accelerating, although not at high power, but i had to use my full body strength to stop the car and kept pressing the brake for the whole time. luckily the traffic didn't stop for too long, otherwise i might have given up and just hit the car 1 meter in front of me. i realized only later that i could have also shifted the gear to neutral or turned off the car. i took the car to a mechanic this saturday but he wasn't sure what's happening because the problem is not regularly duplicate. then i looked up this online and found that this is probably a common problem with taurus 2005 and 2006, i am just another victim. although accident didn't happen, it was very scary. certainly such accident couldn't have been prevented if it was my wife driving the car. *tr

Ea09016 this recall should be expanded to include all models of car vehicle with this transmission/issue not just mini vans. there are quite a number of complaints with the same issue. we had the same issue and during my investigation this appears to be transmission (torque converter related) not vehicle make and model related. i have filed complaints with both nhtsa and ford only to be told (by ford) that the recall doesn't apply because it is this decision does not apply to other types of vehicle. *tr

Sudden loss of power transmission power/burning smell. driving in madison wisconsin, the 2005 ford taurus suddenly lost power. i was able to coast to a stop, but needed to be towed to a repair shop. the symptoms, transmission id and other characteristics are the same as the transmission issues with freestar and other ford minivans/autos. upon consulting with a ford authorized dealer, the only remedy is to replace the transmission. when pressed for an answer, they described the same situation as the current recall ... and stated that my taurus transmission was the same transmission .. most likely with the same issue.

Lost all motive power or the ability to move forward or reverse without warning

First, i want to say that this vehicle is well mantained and serviced on a regular basis. it was a pleasent summer day but had more of a autumn feeling wether. i was driving on the interstate in east tennessee, i had just merge onto the interstate and had been driving for maybe 10 minutes. i slowed down for traffic to about 40 mph as i crest a hill. when i stepped back onto the gas (going down hill now), i felt the car shift into 4 gear. i then felt, and heard a pop similiar to a blowout, but in reality it was the car sliding out of gear. i had only managed to reach about 50mph when the car stop accelearating, (i put on my hazards) i was trying to coast to a safe place, but the constrution projects made no place to pull off. within 5 seconds, a car traveling behind me was bumped by a tractor trailor and was knocked into me. my ford mechanic says the transmission is shot and the catalytic converter went out (was that the popping noise? i wonder.) $3500 to fix this problem. i have google 05 transmission problems and have found numerous over 500 problems that have to do with. i don't know whether ford was trying to save a few dollars, or if they were trying to save fuel mileage, but this transmission is a serious problem. i will not buy another ford if this problem doesn't get resolve by ford recalling these transmissions. last laugh, insurance compainies will repair any car to the quality it was just before the wreck (no better, no worse.). since my transmission went out before the car wreck, they can replace it, ergo... the insurance covers the body work, but will not cover the transmission. my question to ford is does someone have to die before you fix your errors. my father worked at ford for 22 years; he would be.... really disappointed to see what ford pass for quality.

Transmission went out while driving on a busy street. towed to a ford dealership and the mechanic claimed the diagnostics indicated that the transmission pump went out. this may have caused other transmission components to go out as well. with only 104,000 miles, the mechanic suggests a new transmission be installed.

I own a 2005 ford taurus sel. it's been a piece of junk since the day i bought it.when i first bought it,it was burning off front tires every 2000 miles,it was aligned by the dealer twice, ended up having to take it to a friends tire shop,we [i'm a motorcycle builer/welder..] ended up cutting the welds on the shock mount and moved it.the gas mileage is aweful, but now, after 96,000 miles, the transmission started acting up.it was changed every 30,000 miles, always looked like mud.two weeks after it started slipping,my wife was coming home late from work on a secluded, dark, really busy highway, out of the blue, the transmission just completely stopped working, she had to drive it into a ditch,or get killed, luckily, the car wasn't damaged badly otherwise.she spent 45 minutes stuck on the side of the road in the dark until i got there with a wrecker.i've looked online, and talked to friends who own garages, these cars are scrap.nearly every one that makes it to 100,000 miles will experience catastrophic transmission failure. at any time, anywhere, totally without warning... lou degrose

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving approximately 5 mph the transmission failed the gear willn't shift out of first. the vehicle was towed to the dealer diagnosed the clutch plate failed, the transmission had to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer willn't assist with the repair, because the vehicle was over sixty thousand miles. the failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 63,000. li

The car will accelerate without touching the foot pedal or having the cruise control on. you have to ride the brake and shift to neutral to rev the engine and eventually disengage this acceleration process. the mechanic has cleaned the throttle body and replaced the throttle position sensor. both of these fixes seemed to solve the problem for a while. but the car is back to this condition again. on going problem for 10 months. *tr

2005 ford taurus 3.0, vulcan ohv flex-fuel engine. 24,000 miles, driver door would not close anymore. hood misaligned itself. interior pieces falling off. when starting, starter would spin free of the flywheel and not start. (still does this, but will start on the 2nd try usually) brake light switch is erratic, light braking produces a flashing effect like i'm hitting the brakes frantically. makes me look like an idiot driver.(have seen this on other recent mid-2000's fords before. thought they were idiot drivers! cannot use e-85 in any chilly weather below 50 degrees or it is a very long start and it'll idle at 2,500 until warm. routinely gets 17 mpg while being driven very easy. 30,000 miles, flex-pipe exhaust broke on highway, almost ripped off whole exhaust. wasn't even worn looking, just broke in half! brake rotors warped quickly, never did any hard stops.continental tires were badly cracked and unsafe, had never been run low or abused. brake pedal shakes up and down periodically with no reason found, feels like abs but car has no abs. 40,000 miles, complete transmission failure while highway cruising. seat adjustment will not budge, wife cannot drive car as seat is set for me. 45,000 miles, ac compressor bearing failure requiring compressor replacement. power window controls do not work. interior lights work intermittently. accelerator cable needed replacement. uses oil at a high rate for a low-mileage car.( have never neglected oil.) outer door window rubber is badly deteriorated and cracking apart. i've had 20 year old cars that had better rubber. paint is beginning to chip off the dash(why is this painted?). this car is of terrible quality. i have had 37 cars and this is the worst one of them all. i have always liked fords until this car. ford did honor the warranty when in effect but it is falling apart way too fast and my only recourse is to never buy another ford.

Transmission failure of 2005 ford taurus. googled 2005 taurus transmission problems and found there are many people with the same complaint. torque converter failure. i believe there is a defect.

Own a 2005 ford taurus sel. with less than 100k miles on it, and without warning, the transmission stopped engaging. this happened on a busy interstate 90 miles from home. luckily, we were able to pull the car off to the shoulder. this and many other accounts have led me to believe that ford has installed faulty transmissions in this model line. no transmission should drop out without warning with such low mileage on the transmission. transmission needed to be rebuilt, cost me $2200 in the end.

We were stopped at a stop sign and when we went to press the gas pedal to go the rpm's revved for a second and then nothing. the car would not go like it was in neutral. we turned the car off then turned it on again and still nothing. the car wouldn't go into gear. now we are trying to figure out how to get it fixed and are going to the dealership tomorrow to see if they can help. we have only had the car for a year and it only has 95,000 miles on it.

Torque converter on 2005 ford taurus blew up. i was driving down a very busy road during rush hour traffic when my car just stopped. in addition to delaying traffic it was a very unsafe situation for myself and my children who were in the car with my. the mechanic who fixed my car showed me the torque converter and the metal had turned blue from being heated to an extreme heat. he also said that the torque converter blew up sending metal pieces into my transmission. i have talked to several people who have had similar issues and i think it is time that ford is held accountable for an obviously faulty part. thank you for your time.

2005 ford taurus se - sudden transmission failure.65,248 miles on car. traveling 70mph on major highway, passing another vehicle, engine suddenly revved to 7,000rpms and slowed fast, managed to get it side of road. had only park and neutral gears. no warning light, no unusual noise, no previous issue with transmission or engine. required a new rebuilt transmission, $3,000 expense. luckily no accident occurred, no one hurt.

Transmission light came on and although rpm's would go to 6000 you could only drive 30mph - no warning or indication of any transmission problem - service had been done per manual and was current - mileage was 60k - rebuilt transmission was the solution - really not happy

While driving down the road in our 2005 ford taurus it suddenly sounded as if our car was in neutral. after coasting down a hill and into a parking lot we discover that our car will not go into any gear. we had the car towed and now are going to have to figure out how to pay to replace the transmission.

On febuary 5,2010 at 4:44 pm,my ford taurus se 4dr sdn neglected to proceed from a stop light and was having no problems proceeding prior to that stop light and was still in drive after the light turned green to go,but was not able to proceed and was still in drive and running, thinking i was able to proceed with traffic and not able to, had to push the taurus off the road with help from other drivers, than call for a tow.i had it towed back to the greenway ford dealer ship later that night for one hundred and nindy eight dollars out of pocket .after calling the said mentioned dealership above was told that the mechanic couldn't start repairs untill 02/08/2010.when the repairs were done after eight hours of mechanical work,i was called to come and pick-up my ford at the tune of $1,593.74 of mechanical repairs to the r&r transmission and the torque convertor and transmission filter after my warranty expired after 24,000 miles or 24 months, after researching the ford on the lemmon laws found none to be seen or found to be my ford in question, but did find a defected issue with the transmission mentioned above for that year and modle and make, witch i made a copy of for my recoreds,i have concerns and a complaint to be setteled there-of with ford.......

Power transmission problem with my 2005 ford taurus, and my air conditioning unit which has not worked since march of 2008. i contracted ford main office in dearborn mi. about the problem with no effort to help. at the time of the initial problem i had 68,000 miles on the car which i bought from a dealership in march of 2008. i am really disappointed in ford and will never buy another car from them again. i have spent over 2000.00 on powertrans problems which started in july of 2008. my car stayed in the powertrans shop from july-dec of 2008 and because i had no more money to invest in this car i have not been able to use my air conditioning since owning the car. i hate summer driving for that reason. please review and note my complaint. if there is anything i can do to get my air conditioned fixed please let me know. *tr

The torque converter on my 2005 taurus broke (69000) which prevented me from engaging a gear. i was in my driveway when this happened and my driveway is a slight slope so trying to figure out what was happening i rolled into the street. luckily no one was traveling on the street at the time but this could have been far more disastrous then it was. *tr

Transmission failed with no waning. vehicle stopped moving on highway in traffic. no forward or reverse gears. ford refuses to acknowledge mass amounts of complaints on same type failure. torque converter fails. all ford knowledgeable mechanics repair these problems on regular basis. if you google ford taurus torque converter problems you will get back 51,000 hits. that is a lot for ford to say there is no problem. it cost me $1035.00 to have the torque converter replaced on a 2005 model 52,000 mile vehicle. i think that is a problem. we were very lucky because when the car quit moving a semi truck came very close to running over us. i have corresponded with ford by email and letter and they said to go away. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford taurus. while driving 45 mph the vehicle began to loose power. he was able to coast to the shoulder of an intersection, and turn off the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to a local repair facility, and a mechanic stated that the transmission motor mounts were never properly bolted on the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired. prior the failure, the vehicle would intermittently lurch forward. he contacted the manufacturer, but was not provided with any assistance. the failure mileage was 47,000. updated 12/07/09. *lj updated 12/08/09.*jb

I have a 2005 ford taurus se that i bought for my 17 year old daughter, at 52045 miles, the transmission went out. she was driving on the highway at 60mph with a semi behind her when the transmission went out, dropping her speed to 20mph. ford will not do any thing about this problem, and after some research, i have found numerous complaints about the same thing. i don't understand, if ford knows there is a problem, why they won't correct it. my daughter could have been killed or injured, and yet they won't claim fault. i have contacted ford, but have been told there is nothing they can or will do. *tr

My 2005 ford taurus sel with 90,xxx miles on it had its transmission fail. it is still in the shop being repaired, but at this point the torque converter and pump need to be replaced. i was told by the ford service manager that this is a problem that ford is aware of but is not doing nothing about. i will be out a minimum of $1,800 for a problem ford knows about, but does nothing to help their customers. all of my miles are interstate miles and the car has been taken care of in every way. i was driving down my side street road and it was like the car went into neutral. it will not go into any gear. luckily, i was able to coast into my driveway. the service manager said he has had to fix several of these and i talked with a local transmission mechanic and he agreed that he, too, has had to work on this model and year. ford needs to own up and help their customers with this problem and with today's economy and all that is going on, i need help. *tr

While driving down the road with no previous indications of trouble the car suddenly started to slow down and the rpm went up. the car came to a stop in the middle of an intersection and would not move no forward or reverse. had the car towed to the ford dealership and told them what happened and he stated that this was a common failure with this vehicle. the called later that day and stated that the car needs a new transmission that it has no pressure and that the could put in a remanufactured one in cheaper than repairing this one the total will be in he area of $3,100.00 i have googeled this and had over 147,000 hits. sound like ford is hiding a major defect and placing every one that drive one at a major risk. what if this had been a rr crossing? by the way the extended warranty just expired at 80,000. *tr

I started having problems with the transmission of my taurus less than one month after having the vehicle inspected and the trans flushed at a dealership as part of my lease-end purchase option (i leased the car for 3 years prior to purchasing it). the car was past the warranty at 64,500 miles and i did not purchase an extended warranty. i returned to the dealership to find out what was wrong. after running their diagnostic test, i was told that something had failed in the transmission but they were not sure what failed. they offered to diagnose the problem by breaking down the trans at a minimum of 10 hours labor at $88.00 an hour. i contacted ford customer service for some assistance and was denied because they had no record of my car ever being repaired at any dealership during the life of my lease. i had no problems with my vehicle's operation prior to the transmission being flushed, so there was no reason to take it in for repairs. i had my oil changed every 3000 to 5000 miles and all fluids checked on a regular basis (not at the dealership). i took my car to a licensed transmission shop and had the trans rebuilt for $1,200.00 the technician told me the failed part was a boost valve in the valve body. they rebuilt the torque converter and installed a new overhaul kit and the boost valve. eight days after picking up my car, i had to return to the transmission shop because the car was hard to start, the check transmission light came on continuously and the service engine light came on and stayed on. the technician informed me that these problems had nothing to do with the trans but was the mlps (manual lever position sensor) which i had them replace at a cost of $75.00. i was told by the technician that this sensor had gone bad and caused my initial transmission problems. this was a small, plastic part that the dealership missed somehow during their so-called inspection of the vehicle. *tr

I have issues with this car when the temperature falls between 20 and 35 degrees with a coating of slush or snow from 1/4 of an inch up to 5 inches. the vehicle needs to be traveling at 40 to 65 mph and usually on a straight away such as the thruway. sometimes when this car has issues i get a thump from the rear axle and the vehicle shifts very hard between 3rd and 4th gear. it's an automatic transmission.. in these weather conditions the vehicle will buck or surge and feels like the mechanical or electrical system is going to quit functioning. *jb
