Driving down the road when i accelerated the car continued to accelerate after i took my foot off the gas pedal. this happened to my girlfriend earlier when she drove the car. i was able to stop the acceleration by stomping on the gas pedal twice very hard. my girlfriend had to shift into nuetral when it happened to her. this is an ongoing problem with this car and happens randomly at different speeds and conditions. when it happens the engine revs to about 4,000 rpms when shifted into nuetral before going to normal. i did some research and discovered that as of march 2012 there were over 395,000 complaints about this and that the nhtsa was inverstigating. this is a common problem and well documented. i am a ford fan but am very dissapointed this has not been addressed properly especially in the wake of the toyota recalls for similar problems a few years ago. i contacted the nhtsa this morning to discover that: nhtsa campaign id number: pe12005 a safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted. accordingly, this investigation is closed. the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. the agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances. i am asking that this case be reopened before someone is killed and that ford be forced to do the right thing and issue a recall if they won't do it voluntarily.

Starting january 7, 2013 i noticed my gas pedal was stuck and the car suddenly starting to accelerate. i pushed in the gas pedal to unstick it. later that day this same issue occurred again. i took my car to the ford quick lane for them to figure out why my car suddenly started to accelerate without my control. they could not find anything wrong with my car or why this issue was happening. throughout the week this issue continued and on friday january 11, 2013 i dropped my car off for 2 days at the quick lane again. they could not get the car to suddenly accelerate. when i picked up my car on saturday i was told that the cruise control cable was broken, but that cable shouldn't have any affect on the sudden acceleration of the car. so as of right now tuesday january 15,2013 my car is still accelerating on its own and i have to put the car in neutral just to get the engine to quit accelerating. *tr

I was on the interstate going about 70. i put on the cruise control but it wouldn't engage. i tried several times then gave up. not 5 minutes later i tried to go slower, about 65, and the car sped up to 70 on its own. i was confused because the cruise control light was not lit, whereas it was lit when it wouldn't work. i pressed the off button many times but it kept trying to accelerate. my friend was trying to make me pull over but i was scared because the engine was racing and it seemed like the brakes were sluggish. i finally stopped on the shoulder & turned off the car. i was freaking scared because i was in the middle of nowhere. when i turned the car back on it immediately began to race, way up over the 3000 rpms. when i put it into drive it lurched forward. we had to get somewhere, so my friend started driving. i was shaking. it unstuck by itself but continued to do it several times. and i never touched the cruise control again. it does it going 30mph, 60mph, whenever it feels like. i don't have money to fix this & this car has only 50,000 miles on it! i'm scared it's going to do it & the brakes fail when i try to slow down. *tr

I was driving about 40mph when my car started accelerating. i pulled over, got the car towed and fixed that day. about a month later, it happened again on a busier street. being familiar with the feeling, i rode it out to my home except towards the end it would not stop. the friction on the tires made it smell like fire also and they were smoking. i got it towed again except when the driver got there, the car was fine and nothing seemed wrong at the mechanic's. this has happened at least 3 more times in the past year, each time exactly the same. *tr

Today, august 31st, i was driving off navy base at the naval air station on roosevelt blvd., in jacksonville, florida. it was around 4:00 a.m. and my 2005 ford taurus would not stop. i kept pressing the brakes and the car kept accelerating. the car was accelerating by itself...i was not in control of the car. i kept pressing the brakes... as i came out to the intersection i noticed a concrete truck to my left and i had the yield sign....scared to death and heart pounding i had to put the car in park and turn the car off. in park the car was still accelerating; a loud sound. i would have crashed into that concrete truck. please help. is there some type of recall for this car? this is dangerous...what if my kids was in the car. *tr

I bought car from maple street auto - picked up car on 02/24/2012 i notice when i start car - the rpm goes up to high rpm compare to other cars i owned - like dodge caravan and ford windstar when i put car into d - 97 percent of the time takes of and excessive brakes applied while driving most time - i notice the car changes out and takes off appreciable even on a flat surface when coming to a stop light - the car wants to keep going and brakes has to be applied hard even when slowing down once again - i am applying brakes a lot as car keeps going. for the record, i have no speeding violation, no accidents and i have to be careful when driving as the car tend to speed up at times. i also was warned not to use the cruise control by the seller (maple street auto)

I was driving and felt the accelerator pad click, then i noticed that my speed was increasing. as i applied the brake, i noticed that the car was not slowing down. i swerved down a side street and pull on my emergency breaks and turned off the engine. it began at approximately 30 mph and accelerated itself to approximpately 40 mph. the dealership determined that my throttle cable was erroded and needed a replacement. i got a new throttle cable. about a month later, i felt the click again and i saw my speed go up again; this time, it unclicked. i contacted the dealership and dropped off the vehicle. the dealership determined this time that the tube in which the throttle cable is inserted was filled was debris so that caused another jam. the dealership did not charge me again for this service but it leads to me suspect if there are further issues with the accelerator itself.

Our company has 2 of the 2005 ford taurus. both bought new from ford dealer. within weeks of each other in year 2009, we experienced major problem with both. the vehicles would accelarate while driving and if cruise control was on at the time, the driver could not brake or turn cruise off to get vehicle to slow down. this first happen on the highway. then it happened on city street at stop, both vehicles would rev rpms when at a stop to the point that the driver would have to keep both feet on the brake described as with as much force as they could and put car in nuetral to keep vehicle still. these were both taken to the dealership at which they bought and no recall had shown up for the service dept. after two attempts to fix what they thought was wrong, to no avail, the service dept finally experienced it first hand while bringing vehicle in to service dept. not sure what the fix finally intailed. i have recently read an article speaking of the investigation into stuck throttle on the 2005 models and wanted to make sure these incidents were reported. we still have these vehicles in our fleet.

I bought a 2005 ford taurus on nov, 29, 2005. approx.. 1 month after buying it, the brakes began to squeak. it has cut out when going up a hill, and it lunges forward slightly when parking and taking the key out of the ignition. i have been to the dealer i bought it from 2 times. they say the brake problem came from manufacturing with the 2005 model and that they did not find any other problems as i have described. they say there is nothing they can do about the squeak of the brakes, that it was ford motor company's fault for putting the brakes on that they did. *nm

On october 28,2005 i was vacationing in hilton head s.c. i rented a 2005 ford taurus from avis rental at the savannah georgia airport. on october 30, at approximately 10:40 am i was proceeding westbound on u.s. 278 toward highway 170. i was traveling approximately 50 - 55 mph in a 55 mph zone. at that time a 2002 kia 4 door came off private property of the st. gregorey's catholic church across the two westbound lanes. i activated the brakes and swerved to miss the vehicle however we collided. my vehicle hit theirs broadside at my estimate of 25 - 30 mph at impact. the impact was to the front of my vehicle to the driver's side of their vehicle. at the time of the collision, the anti- lock brakes on my vehicle locked so i was unable to steer out of the path of the kia. at the time of the collision neither the driver or passenger airbags deployed on my vehicle. the driver of the kia was airlifted to savannah, georgia and her husband was transported to the same hospital by ground ambulance. my wife was transported by ambulance to carolina coastal hospital in bluffton, s.c. i sent this information about 2 weeks ago but have had no acknowledgement of it being received so i am resubmitting it. *jb

On 10/28/05 i rented a ford taurus at the airport in savannah, georgia while vacationing in hilton head, south carolina. on 10/30/05 i was driving westbound in the slow lane on u.s. 278, a four lane highway divided by a 40 -60 ft grass divider in route to beuford s.c. my speed was about 50 -55 mph with a posted limit of 55 mph. about 150 feet in front of me, i caught a glimpse of a vehicle (2002 kia) leaving the driveway of the st. gregory the great catholic church directly in the path of my vehicle. i applied the brakes hard, swerved to the left in an effort to steer around the vehicle. the brakes of the taurus locked up and i left about 60 feet of skid marks on the roadway at which time i hit the kia broadside at the driver's door. i would estimate my speed at the time of the collision to be about 25 - 30 mph. the kia crossed the divider and two eastbound lanes prior to stopping on the south side of the roadway shoulder. at the time of the collision neither my air bag nor my wife's air bag deployed. my wife suffered injuries to her shoulder, neck and knee. i suffered injuries to left wrist and right upper arm. the female driver of the kia was airlifted to savannah, georgia for treatment and was still in the hospital according to the insurance company on 11/9/05. the male passenger was transported by ambulance to savannah also but i am unaware of his condition. i feel this vehicle and other models of this nature need to be examined. this information was noted on the accident form i prepared for avis rentals at hilton head s.c. on 10/30/05. *nm
