Numerous problems with my 1995 ford windstar. it is the worst car i have ever purchased! as soon as one repair is completed (two transmissions, head gasket, electrical problems, brakes, suspension), then another one occurs. now, as in every christmas, the engine light is on and the car is running so poorly that you can't even pull the car out of the driveway without it choking and spitting, lots of smoke, and the car is actually shaking!!! i know it is another head gasket and i just can't pay anymore money into this piece of garbage. i have been looking for a new car and it certainly will not be a ford!

I asked the seller at ford to completely service the van before i would buy it. he said his mechanic would. i checked the van out two weeks later, low on oil, no brake fluid, trans fluid very low, no water hardly at all in receiver, then the starter went out, replaced it no good, replaced switch, no good, brakes gone out, can't keep fluid in systems, engine light came on, emission problems, mechanic stalls for the hour amount, and still can't fix/test ii code. inside lights dim when extra. lights come on. it's a damn piece of junk and they sold us a lemon. i paid over $4,000.00 cash for it, and all they wanted to so was sell it for money. what can i do? it has 72,000 etc mile and now has 82,000. we are both disabled with two kids. we have been screwed. i can get the ford info on the ford windstar 95 3.8 it rattles, water runs out of the exhaust pipe and the converter. i want to sue them, i calld them and they said the hell with you, you bought it as it was. ford products are the worst auto's on the market. we want revenge and all our money back now. avery herring res8cvfs@verizon.net 8284977787. what is next a head gasket? i heard that cost over $1,600.00 to fix. and there are alot of them going out. ford needs to stand behind it's products or get out of the bussiness. i have had my kids tossed to the dash when i step on the brakes before we even get out of our drive way. we wear seatbelts, i wouldn't dare ride in it. it is a death trap tp me.*ak

I own a 1995 ford windstar the paint is blistering off in huge pieces. ford says it is not their problem , paint should not peal from a car like this it is blistering off in sheets . i have read that ford is paying for painting only if the customers are really loud about complaints. i have also read that many complaints have already been sent here. this automobile has been a nightmare with defects and recalls. anyone in the automotive business laughs when they here what kind of car i own. 10 years to pay it off, 3 head gaskets later rebuilt trans engine heads warped from factory coils springs breaking electrical malfunctions , paint lifting off the vertical sides, brake problems....the list goes on and now ford no longer lists the windstar on their site. they have changed the name to free star i wonder why?

Brake light come on frequently. door ajar light stays on occasionally causing interior lights to remain on even when all doors are shut. dash light quit working. took to certified mechanic and found the problem was in the ashtray light, disconnected ashtray light and dash lights started working again. engine light staying on. took to certified mechanic, was told that vacuum hose was off the egr valve. mechanic put vacuum hose back on. problem recurred 3 days later but this time not vacuum hose. believe the problem to be egr valve itself. engine surges/misses constantly. did a tune up, replacing plugs wires, etc.. problem still exists especially after vehicle is run for a while. often shifts hard during acceleration. have done transmission service, problem still exists. do not take off hard from stops. *jb

Before freedom ford replaced our engine, we were having electrical problems which we reported and they could not find the problem to why the door chimes and door adjar lights would stay on, our engine assembly was relaced on 09/27/2001. then our battery light came on while driving and the lights in the car started dimming, we replaced our battery and found out from ford that our alternator was bad. we had to pay 387.51 for an alternator.! not to mention the 1800+ in emergency expenses we had to pay that ford refuse to pay us back when our engine blew while driving home on a vacation. however they did replaced the engine free of charge after long negotiation by my wife. we are still having problems with our door chimes and lights and ford said on 02/14/2002 they could not check to see what's wrong unless it comes on and to bring it in when the light comes on. figure the odds on that, i live about 20-25 minutes away from there and the light may go out before i get there. also, we have had numerous times when the front mirror on the inside came off while my husband was driving. i mean literally fell off. these ford windstars are not safe to be on the road and there really needs to be a recall on these vans or ford should be ordered to give the owners a prorated refund or set amt. back for all our problems and financial sufferings we have been through. i pray that nhtsa issues a recall or order ford to take the 1995 windstars off the street and issue us a prorated refund. these windstars are not safe.imagine your engine blowing on a busy highway with your family in the van. this is what happened to me.e-mail me with the ansers to my questions.. will nhtsa be issuing a recall or ford a prorated refund on these ford windstars soon? i still owe on this ford, but we do not feel safe driving it anymore, but it is all we have. how can we get rid of the windstar and the loan payments and buy something else? i pray that you will help us owners of windstars. thanks.*ak

My 1995 windstar has had problems since day 1. paint job had to be repaired; windshield had crack..replaced; sliding door was leaking and had to be adjusted 3 times; head gasket failure; timing gasket failure; wheel bushing failure; interior parts not installed properly; abs light/elect system failure (2x); i feel so bad about this thing i don't know what to do. ford doesn't care. i can't sell this thing with a clear conscience....but ford did. can you help us!!!! there are many, many others like me. i am very concerned the tranny will go next as has been reported by so many other windstar owners when they reach the 60-75000 mile range. in addition, the timing cover gasket costs approximately $850 to fix. i don't want to pay for this repair but neither ford or my dealer will fix the problem. mechanics i have spoke with said to talk with the dealer...this should not happen at such a low mileage. i believe it was happening since day one intermittantly. Before freedom ford replaced our engine, we were having electrical problems which we reported and they could not find the problem to why the door chimes and door adjar lights would stay on, our engine assembly was relaced on 09/27/2001. then our battery light came on while driving and the lights in the car started dimming, we replaced our battery and found out from ford that our alternator was bad. we had to pay 387.51 for an alternator.! not to mention the 1800+ in emergency expenses we had to pay that ford refuse to pay us back when our engine blew while driving home on a vacation. however they did replaced the engine free of charge after long negotiation by my wife. we are still having problems with our door chimes and lights and ford said on 02/14/2002 they could not check to see what's wrong unless it comes on and to bring it in when the light comes on. figure the odds on that, i live about 20-25 minutes away from there and the light may go out before i get there. also, we have had numerous times when the front mirror on the inside came off while my husband was driving. i mean literally fell off. these ford windstars are not safe to be on the road and there really needs to be a recall on these vans or ford should be ordered to give the owners a prorated refund or set amt. back for all our problems and financial sufferings we have been through. i pray that nhtsa issues a recall or order ford to take the 1995 windstars off the street and issue us a prorated refund. these windstars are not safe.imagine your engine blowing on a busy highway with your family in the van. this is what happened to me.e-mail me with the ansers to my questions.. will nhtsa be issuing a recall or ford a prorated refund on these ford windstars soon? i still owe on this ford, but we do not feel safe driving it anymore, but it is all we have. how can we get rid of the windstar and the loan payments and buy something else? i pray that you will help us owners of windstars. thanks.*ak

Ford is aware of defective trasmissions in '95 windstar. car lurches forward after not accelerating from a stop position, could cause accident if another car were in front, slipping transmission at 50,000 is unconscionable. dealer checked and said i would have to have a new transmission installed at $2,400. check online under ford windstar automatic transmission problems there are thousands of cusotmers with transmissions and head gaskets blowing at very low milage. is there a class action suit regarding this defect? apparently, ford is aware of the problem but won't do a recall because it's too expensive. i am single mom with 3 children whom i must drive to and from school every day and i am very concerned about our safety. please help me! according to other owners, after their transmissions began to slip, it was only weeks before the whole thing blew. i do not have the money to buy a new transmission. ford should do something. *ak strater faile at 55,955 miles. the vehicle would not start numerous times. abs light stays on due to master cylinder failure. loud noise in front suspension due to struts failure. brakes make grinding noise. serpentine belt failed. temprature guage running hot because of temprature sensor failure. the consumer states that the vehicle is a lemon and should be recalled. *yh

*yh

I was driving from wisconsin to pennsylvania at night. in ohio, i noticed a significant loss of power, and whooshing noise from under chassis, gradually getting worse over a couple of hours. at that point, the check engine light also came on. after arriving in pittsburgh (and after christmas holiday) i took the car to a muffler shop. as i expected, one of the catalytic convertors was clogged. on diagnosing the pcm fault codes, they discovered that the rubber hoses connecting to the dpfe (differential pressure feedback egr) sensor was nearly completely melted away (because of the increased exhaust backpressure from the cat failure???). i was preparing the car for another long-distance trip on 6/10/02 when i discovered that the plastic air intake plenum and the wiring harness in that area were damaged by heat, as well. the area of damage is right in the area of the metal tubes coming from the exhaust system that the rubber hoses to the dpfe sensor connect to. about 8 of the wires had their insulation completely burned through (about 1 in length). many of the rest of the wires had embrittled insulation, or the insulation was melted together (there seem to be about 50 conductors in the wiring harness at that location). i'm really quite surprised that no fuses blew, since the bare wires were all adjacent to eachother (on the back side of the wire bundle, out of sight if you're not looking closely). i hadn't detected any electrical failures at the time, or during the intervening 6 months, but this was clearly a fire hazard. i have some reasonably clear digital photographs of the damaged wires (taken while i repaired the insulation on all of the conductors with vinyl electrical tape). i'll be happy to email them to you if you're interested.*ak

Antilock brake light ignited on two occasions, filling with brake fluid fixed this problem. now the anti lock brake light intermittantly comes on. when light is not activated, the antilock brakes are activated with every use of the brake, causing the brake pedal to become very difficult to depress. once the brake goes beyond this point, the pedal will depress to the floor and pressure will push the pedal back up and pulsate. when coming to a complete stop the brakes will make a grinding sound from the right front. when the light is ignited and the antilock brakes are not operational, the brakes work normal, but still grind when a complete stop is made. there is a wire at the starter connection that works itself loose occassionally causing the engine not to start. when this occurs you need to jiggle the wire and tighten to get to start. this problem had been looked at and serviced in sept 2000, but still occurs approximately every four months. the door ajar light and dome light intermittently activate. this seems to be false as all doors are closed. again, some playing around with connections seem to fix this problem also. all problems seem to have occured after the vehicle reached 75,000 miles. we do have acquaintances who also own windstars of the same year and have the same antilock brake problem.*ak

Lehigh valley ford replaced the recalled headgasket and the problems started then. the check engine light came on, i took it back to the same dealer they replaced the computer for $400. the check engine light came on again. they took in they replaced the computer again, but they said there was still a problem they decided to without asking to replace the main electrical harness. i picked my van up today, the nice people there asked to test drive for a week and then come back to discuss the charges. i have to admit that l.v.ford are very good people to deal with but i don't feel it is fair to be charged anything after i found out that there was a recall on the same harness, and before replacing the headgaskit i did not face any problem with the van, i am not saying these problems related to that in any way.

The electronic speed sensor failed while on a trip in july. the vehicle shifting points are controlled by this device. while traveling at 65 mph the vehicle digital speedometer went to 0 and the vehicle down -shifted to another gear on its own with a lost of speed of about 15 mph. this would happen intermitently. one time was almost in an accident with a tractor trailer . i was accellerating onto an interstate and instead of the vehicle accelerating as normal . the sensor speedometer went to 0 and the vehicle instead of accellerating , actually felt that it was trying to down -shift to first gear ,with a substantial loss of power.*ak

Electrical problem in dash caused a brake light problem. ford dealer had to pull out dash to correct problem. car had a previous recall in which the dash had to be pulled out also. we believe the wire repair in the dash was a result of the previous dash electrical recall. ford says no. at only 59,400 miles the trans needs replacing. ford has a dealer service bulletin that states failure of transmissions can be due to a cracked or broken forward clutch pision. ford says no. blown head gasket at 87, 300 miles causes engine to have to be replaced. we received a recall letter in march and received $3200 for reimbursement. at 89,000 miles during february of 2000, the second transmission goes out and the mechanic states that the overheating of the engine head gasket problem can affect the transmission. during a test drive of the third transmission, the speedometer goes bad. a recall letter from ford in may of 1994 states that some speedometers can have incorrect gear and may cause a loss of function. a letter has been written to ford motor company explaining the excessive costs to maintain a vehicle. *ak
