| Starting about a year ago, the speedometer, rpm meter swings around. odometer light doesn't come on when you start the car and little while later odometer light comes on. fuel guage also shows incorrect amount of fuel. i think the whole odometer control panel is non-functional. | |||

| I have had this van for a little bit more than a year now. after purchasing it i brought it to the closest dealership and had several recall issues attended to, supposedly at least. since that time i have had many issues with the vehicle, ranging from electrical problems to neutral switches to tie rods and more. i was thinking of giving up and getting a new vehicle, i can not afford to keep up with repair costs. then i brought it to another shop to get the check engine light taken care of recently, the mechanic informed me that many of these vans have been recalled, including those in massachusetts, and not only that but the van's are notoious for the electrical and other issues i had told him of. after inspecting the van he said the dealership shouldn't have let me leave with the vehicle and advised me not to drive it either, he deemed it unsafe. i have used this vehicle to transport my wife, our four kids, and many other family and friends and once hearing those words a literal chill ran down my spine at the thought of what could've happened. i have sent emails of my concerns to ford themselves and was replied to in a couple of days, i have since responded three times and i am still awaiting a response from them now almost a month later. i have since left my van at my sister's as my house was much further away and i didn't want to risk it. the issues i have researched about this van include the mentioned electrical problems, as well steering problems, transmission problems, brake system problems and more. i feel the vehicle is unsafe and will not drive it any longer, also when noticing other vehicles of the same model i feel they should be notified of these issues immediately. ford knows of these problems as cases ranging in to 5 million plus vehicles affected. | |||

| Intermittent problem: problems indicated by on board message center reads check brake lamps, check tail lamps check head lamps check rear turn lamps, check front turn lamps, noticed that interior lights will not work, auto locks will not work, key remote will not lock or unlock vehicle or open doors. get no codes from o b d ii. scanner. have replaced battery because it was 6 years old and wasn't putting out proper amps. thought would solve problem. it didn't. thought disconnecting battery for 30 min. would reset computer. seamed to work a couple of times, however, now believe it was just coincidence. sometimes when i start the vehicle everything is fine, however while driving, the message reappears and none the above mentioned, no longer work again. this is a driving hazard. | |||

| Went to pick up food and noticed my 99 ford windstar was smoking. i pulled over, lifted up the hood and it was on fire. it was put out with a fire extingusisher. looked up online that there was a recall. called ford, they were unwilling to help us at all. told us we'd have to pay for a diagnostic/and towing. finally got ahold of someone through ford who got that for no charge. was told that it is the recalled piece that caused the fire. now am told that it could take up to 15 days to find out if i can get a rental until the car is fixed. | |||

| *cruise control stopped working beginning of 2011, never came back on. *abs light turns on/off intermittently. started about 1 year ago; 5/2010. *side door locks don't work correctly and get stuck (have to manually pull them up). started approx. 7/2010. *passenger door does not unlock from the outside with automatic lock button or keys. started approx. 1/2011. *heater only works in back, not front. started approx. 10/2010. *open regulator window loosened and broke off, shattering, while on interstate. bought replacement window, but the regulator assembly does not come in single parts, so i have not purchased a replacement plastic securer to hold the rear of the window on. 5/7/2011. i feel there is more i'm forgetting, but i can't think of anything at this time. | |||

| Bought the van in sept. 2002 with 55,000 miles, engine light came on within a week of having it. took it back to car lot where we bought it, they took it to the ford dealer, couldn't find anything except that it came up a lean code they told me i didn't know how to put gas cap on the right way. that is not the problem. kept dealing with light on to this day. may 2003 had to have the transmission replaced, got it back starting having same problems,took it back they said they forgot to replace a wire, still having problems to this day with transmission in fact oct. 2010 had to have it towed they said shavings found in motor will need transmission replaced again. dome lights flash all the time. the gauges go haywire all the time, peg from one side to the other. had that replaced and did it again. took it in for recall dec. 28,2010 cracked rear axle still at dealer. now just heard that the recall for sub frame will get papers in feb. guess it will be there longer. our dumb mistake we bought another windstar in sept. 2010 a 2003 all we could afford, that has problems with abs light. told over $800 to fix. we need two new cars, don't feel safe in either. | |||

| I took the winstar to have the two recalls repaired and when the basil ford service department was done with that they informed me that my van was undriveable because the right front sub frame was cracked. they said it would cost $1600. to repair it. with all the rust on the doors and door sill i find it rediculous to spend that amount when the rust would bring down the value of the van to almost nothing. this is the fifth ford i have had and you would think i would have learned about the rust factor. getting back to the sub frame i phoned the number listed on the ford web page but after about five phone calls i decided to call the corporate office. i was directed to a voice mail...gave my information and was told we would hear from them in so many business days. it didn't happen. then we recieved a form to fill out about how well we thought our phone inquiry went. we had a letter about the axel recall and this web site is listed so i thought it was time. | |||

| I have a ford windstar year 1999. aabout two weeks ago the two break lights went on, i had a fuse # 10 blown and a non working speedometer dial.( the cruise control has three months that is not working) i did take a look at the owners's manual. in the manual i read that reason for the break light to come on was the lower level of brake fluid in the reservuar and so it was. i added some brake fluid and the light was off. in the mean time i did checked the fuse panel and i found this fuse #10 was blown and i replaced it, but half an hour later i got a blown fuse again. also the abs light was on and so i decided to see a mechanic. i did go to a repair shop and i was told that my van has a serious problem. scds under the master cylinder has developed a bad leak. the scds switch is leaking and that may cause a fire sooner or later. this leak has caused a short and a fuse trip #10 this break fluid leak has wicked down the wires to the abs module. i was told that this leaky switch has caused all the problemd in my van. speedometer, cruise control and abs brake system are not working. i was told that there may be a recall on this problems. i do not knowany thing about it. i know that it was a recall issued on august 27,2010 in regard with rear axel. i never got any notice from ford co. i had a broken rear axel on march 2010 and i was saved by good luck. i paid a lot of money to fix it. ford did not pay a dime for this problem. ford never sends me any recall notices. i'm never going to buy ford cars again. | |||

| I own a 1999 ford windstar se - i have had major ongoing electrical issues with it for the past 6 months. i have seen 2 different ford dealerships and 3 different mechanics and no one can relieve the issue. my abs break light keeps coming on and off. when this began, i also began to loose other electrical components one by one, my power windows went out, my power mirrors no longer work, and my dash board needles jump all over the place. i've spent 1,700 in repairs and still this problem remains unsolved. just last month it sat at the ford dealership for 2 weeks for them to still tell me they have no idea how to fix it or what is causing the issue. please help! | |||

| We own a 1990 ford windstar and my father and i were just pulling out a parking spot when we felt a jolt sort of like a tire popped. the vehicle was no longer moving when accelerator was pressed we got out to check what the problem was and our rear driver side tire looked inverted and we found out our rear axle had broken. we are now out of a car. i got online right away to see how much repairs would cost and soon found many related stories from other ford windstar owners who were experiencing the same problem. this is very frustrating as it is our only means of transportation and we might not have the money to repair it, if it even is repairable. | |||

| We traveled from agawam ma to scarborough me for a family party. 20 minutes after we parked in the driveway, we started to back up our minivan because someone needed to move their car out. we then heard a loud crack while backing up in the driveway. the van began leaning to the left. we found the rear axle broken into two pieces. the break is located about a foot away from the rear driver's side wheel. we had to have the van towed to a local dealer, prime ford in saco me and had to leave it there for repairs. the service department says the rear axle was completely rusted out where the break occurred. we need to replace the rear axle, the left driver's side tire, and shock absorber that were damaged due to the axle break. we will let the service dept. know that we would like to keep the old part if possible because of this preliminary investigation going on now. we will also have to take time off from work to return to maine to pick up the vehicle once it is repaired. | |||
