Transmission will downshift very roughly, driver gets thrown forward. dealer cannot find cause.*ak the transmission was down shifting with a terrible jolt at low speed. the vehicle was difficult to start when cold and damp, also when the ignition was switched off and then back to start the engine fires and runs. the vehicle stalling was determined to be fuel pump failure. the gas mileage dropped from 23 mpg to 16 mpg and the vehicle burns more oil. the lights flicker when driving at night and a/c is on, also the vehicle shakes while idling with the a/c on. the driver?s seat cut and slashed the consumer?s clothing. there was a weak green light from the battery. vehicle vibrates at high speed. the driver?s door was difficult to shut. *yh

The anchor point on the second row captain chairs are in the lowr left hand corner of the seat. in the operator manual they are shown as being in the center of the seat. we contacted the dealer, who spoke the factory. they said the manual was a misprint and the seats were desinged that way with the anchor point being on the lower left. all the other seats have the anchor points in the center of the back of the seat. with anchor point being offest it cuase the strap to run on a diagnal from top back to the lower left hand corner, as you are looking at the back of the seat. i have not seen any other vehicles, where the anchor point is off centered. please recall this van and make ford fix the problem before a child is hurt. thank you.

The drivers seat in my 2000 windstar became an issue on february 22, 2001, which was repaired for the first time on march 13 2001. since then, it has been in and out for repairs or replacements 6 times. when the problem occurred again, ford motor company will not fix it because of the expiration of its warranty. however, there?s no effort to solve the problem, just to perform replacements and repairs until the warranty expires. *la

Ford winstar model year 2000 with lowback driver's seat. the sheet metal seat back has cut through the foam padding and cloth seat. this leaves a sharp metal edge that cuts the drivers clothing, cuts (bleed) the driver and could impale the driver in an accident. this problem may be related to a known tsb for windstars which have a twisted seatback metal work.*ak it looks to me like poor design. the edge sticking out is sharp 90 angle and would not cut through the fabric of seat or injure driver if it had been stamped rounded instead.

Our 2000 ford windstar was rear-ended on i40 08/10/2000. traffic slowed suddenly, cars were following too closely, struck the left side of the rear of our van at speed. the force of the collision caused the seat back to give way, pinning the legs of my 4 year old son between the seat and his car seat. he was uninjured, however, i suffered severe soft tissue injuries when the seat back collapsed. this could have been a very serious situation had my head struck my son.*ak
