 On 8/12/12 as i was driving to new york i notice that every time there is a weight transfer i heard a clunking sound on the right front, after returning to new jersey i took the vehicle to sears auto to have it check out and was told and shown the defect was with the frame work which a recall was done for in 2011. the repair that the did in 2011 to the frame was in my opinion a death trap and i would suggest that you send a inspector to inspect the repair that ford said they did to these frame work, the strap that they put on the frame in my opinion is like putting a band aid on a third degree burn. i took the vehicle back to ford dealer in hackensack nj and they are giving me a hard time, my vehicle has been there from friday and today is saturday @ 1430 they still haven't look at it, maybe because of the color of my skin the really don't care, but i don't think safety should come down to the color of a person skin. thanks for your help. *tr

 Intermittent non operating abs. traced to abs ecm defective operation. frozen stainless steel screws into aluminum mount prevented removal of abs ecm for planned rebuild. my understanding is that there is a design and build defect typical to this unit that causes this problem. design defect -aluminum sheet heat sink which has a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than circuit board contributing to stress on improperly made solder joints on circuit board(build defect). *tr

 Traveling 70 mph on hey front driver side tire, rim, and all lugnuts just flew off. i went into a dit h. major damage. i am discovering that this is a common issue with these vans and i plan to sue ford.

 My 2000 ford windstar has bee having problems with the abs. over the past few weeks the brakes have occasionally made a high pitched noise that sounds like metal grinding together. i also happened to be driving down the road the other day and the brakes decided to activate themselves without me pressing them. the abs light also came on on the dash. i was unable to move forward because this made me come to a complete stop. i then turned off the vehicle and turned it back on. the light then went out and i was able to continue on my way. this has happened several times since then. ford needs to issue a recall on the abs.

 I own a 200 ford windstar and recently took it to a ford dealer to have the speed control modual replaced due to recall. i did so after having problems with my brake system (not having any brake). i originally brought it to a regualr garage and they could not figure out why i had no brake cuz my brakes were good so they told me to get to ford and have recall situation taken care of. after doing so i still have hardly any brake and the abs light still comes on. every week i seem to be putting in brake fluid because the red brake light comes on. on a few occasions i have had problems getting out of park and have no idea why. i am due to have an inspection and dont know what im gonna do if it does not pass due to not having much of a brake. is there some other problem we should be looking at involving the abs system?

 Noticed cruise control does not work in july 08, not sure for how long as i do not use this feature. started to lose brake fluid about a year ago, added brake fluid on 9/14/08. 9/16/08 abs light came on & stayed on. odometer & speedometer stopped working. decided to check recalls and complaints, was amazed at the number of similar problems, but yet no recall. mileage was 81,000+. no abs brakes and not knowing your speed are safety issues. i had a 95 ford windstar which ford bought back from me due to equipment failures at 45,000 miles but i had to buy another windstar. ford should provide a recall and fix these problems. i planned to drive this car for several more years, now what am i going to do. this car requires new brakes almost every year. there is definitely engineering problems that ford should be responsible for fixing. i had a huge repair bill at the ford dealer about 4 years ago, i think it was the rear axle. *tr

 Vehicle was purchased used in april of 2006. abs system was functioning fine from that time until march 2007. the abs system fails when ambient temperature is above 35 degrees f. there is no abs light and system functions correctly when temp is below 35. abs light comes on immediately at start up in summer time (temps around 80 degrees) and malfunctions. abs time to failure correlates to ambient temperature in that it takes longer to malfunction closer to 35 degrees, and short time to malfunction at greater temperatures. i have taken no corrective action at this time as i am waiting for ford to do a recall. system continues to malfunction daily. the website i found that encouraged filing this complaint says that windstars from model year 1999 through 2003 are experiencing this same widespread defect.  I purchased this vehicle about 2 years ago and began having problems right away. the abs light comes on and goes off quite often. at about 125,000 miles i had problems with the brakes and could not drive the car. my o/d light also began to flash and my speedometer jumped up and down while i was driving. i took it to a shop and had to have a speed sensor replaced. a day later the problem happened again and i had to have the sensor replaced again. the abs light began to come on again a few days later. now i have a light on the panel (the master lighting switch). when i turn off the headlights and parking lights, the parking lights come back on. i used to be able to turn them off and sometimes they would stay off, but now i have to disconnect the battery every time i park and reconnect it to drive the car. also, one by one, all of the power locks are going out. the only one that works correctly is the one for the rear door (trunk). the rear windows can open, but sometimes it takes days of trying before i can get them to close again. *tr

 Abs light turns on. odometer & speedometer died. ac not cold. electronic [like auto sliding door, cruise control] work intermittently. this break-down is observed initially (fall 2007) with cruise control stops working. since it's already out of warranty and we're a bit tight with our budget, we decided not to fix it. every now and then, the sliding door stops working, but it seems to comeback again on its own, so we're living through these malfunctions. on may 19, 2008, the abs light is on, speedometer and odometer died and ac not cold; thinking some of these are urgent and important we brought it to firestones which returned the car and advised us to take it to the dealer. later i learn that this is a common problem in ford windstar 2000 and thus should have been a recall. *tr

 Regarding the 2009-2010 perform recall 09s09 of the speed control deactivation switch wire assembly replacement. it did not work - it never worked, nor did it solve the problem. within 2 days of the installation the abs light came on again. to this date brake fluid is still leaking into the component. it causes my brake lights to stay on upon stopping and turning the car off - which if goes unnoticed, it drains the battery. to this date the cruise control does not work. and iit has also reduced my safe braking distance. i have very low miles on the van - less than 81,000 miles - so it is not cause by heavy useage. ford has failed to fix the issue which it the leaking brake fluid onto this wiring assembly. there are many ford windstars still in use that are experiencing the same problem. ford should fix this issue of the leaking brake fluid onto the assembly wire. replacing this wire assembly harness did not and will not fix the brake fluid leakage issue.

 Back in 2008 i was involved in a fender bender (about $6,000 in damages) when my abs failed causing me to slide into another car. at first i thought it was minor issue, but have since been told it's a major issue with many owners. i've found that the recall (09s09) does not address all the underlying issues and the ford dealer will not fix all of the issues. additionally i was told by my local ford dealer that there were no open items on my van for abs. when i inquired what that meant, they said that there was nothing on recall for abs on my vehicle. i had never had anything done to the abs, so it was not because it was already fixed. a week ago, i was almost involved in an accident because of the failure of the abs system; i was only going 40 mph. i constantly have my brakes checked because i have to press them hard to work. the rear brakes are almost new, and the front (pads and rotors) are new so the brakes should work better than they do. since there are major reports of problems, this needs to be addressed by ford.

 For a year now we be noticing odometer failure, brake light and abs light coming on. recently we found out the brakes weren't working at all. luckily no accidents. i inspected the brake fluid container which was empty. i refilled it and checked around to see for any leaks. i noticed it was leaking at the scds switch. i went online and found a website where they described this to be a common problem and that there was a recall for this. lucky it hasn't caused any fire like it did by some other owners.

 Took ford windstar in for recall on axels. upon completion, asked svcman about break pads. svcman said full inspection done and brakes okay. called repairman 2 days later about loose steering and faulty electrical system. car began to vibrate when breaking. took car in. service dept. said brakes bad, cushings bad, ball joint bad, then when placing pads one calipher starts leaking. all in one recall experience. this is how ford makes its service money, recall and destruction to increase service department revenues. $600+ brake job pays for those recall axel kits. my real concern is what isn't rusting on the ford windstar? the axels, rotters, caliphers all rusting. my problem is overshadowed by the knowledge that this same dealership sold me this windstar with full knowledge that it had been in an accident causing significant damage to the front right end. the same one with the braking problem. however ford conveniently failed to report the accident to car fax. i found out after purchase when a body shop worker showed me the replaced body work. since one doesn't sit in the passenger seat when test driving, i didn't find out until later that the passenger seat had been ripped from its steel floor bolts. ford replaced the screws and still said nothing. i still find pieces of broken windshield glass in the sliding door wells and in the chair support clamps on the floor when i remove the seats.

 Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford windstar. the contact stated that he received notification of nhtsa campaign id numbers: 10v385000 (suspension: rear:axle: non-powered axle assembly), 00v351000 (electrical system:wiring:interior/under dash) and 01v261000 (visibility: windshield wiper/washer: motor) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs. the vehicle was left with the dealer for over a month and once the vehicle was released to the contact, the power steering would abnormally pull the vehicle to the right. in addition, the windshield washer would only spray to one side instead of both. the anti-lock brake warning light was also illuminating on a consistent basis. the dealer was contacted and they advised him to junk the vehicle. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 159,000.

 I own a 2000 ford windstar. last year the dealership performed a recall related to leaking brake fluid and abs issues. this year i am getting an abs light on and a code of c1185. i was toild this code relates to a bad electronic control unit (ecu) for the abs brake system. this is the same part that the brake fluid issue was supposed to correct to prevent vehicle fires. the dealer refuses to replace the ecu as part of the recall (free of charge). the ecu is over $600. i am now at risk of fire and my braking ability has been compromised. i feel that ford should have replaced this part as part of the recall.

 We bought our 2000 ford windstar used in early 2005. ever since we bought this van, the abs light has continued to come on. it was too expensive to fix, but while reading about the recent windstar axle recall, i found that the abs light problem is a recurring problem among many windstar owners. i know the brakes don't work like they should, but i have always put up with it because i could not afford to get it fixed. it is especially scary when braking going down a hill. can you please investigate this problem? i read about this problem on www.fordwindstarrecall.info and there is a lot of info there with background info. i wish i would have found this site before i purchased the windstar.

 The abs warning light on my 2000 ford windstar van has been coming on intermittently and staying on for some period of time (i.e., years). reported this several times to the local ford dealership and they acknowledge that the light is on, but can never figure out the appropriate diagnostics as to what is wrong with the sensors or the abs system and they have been unwilling to replace anything. even during the last recall (cruise control wiring harness issue) the mechanics at shults ford of wexford, pa admitted that the light was on and wouldn't go off, and that they didn't know why, but they made no attempt to replace it. lately, my light has been lit up more constantly and it seems to me that the braking distances are generally longer. i cannot ascertain if the abs system is even engaging or not, but it seems that ford is really not too interested in this problem. i recently applied the brakes during a light rain in which the road was slick from oil/grime because it had not rained in some time, and i heard no evidence of the normal sound of the abs system. i wanted to submit this to nhtsa so that at least this will be documented in case i get into a serious crash as a result of a faulty abs system or abs sensors.

 I had the ford october 2009 recall performed (speed control wiring harness fire related) on my 2000 ford windstar, and prior to that there had been an intermittent abs yellow brake light on my dash. i have mentioned this problem to the ford dealer mechanics, and they can never find a fix for it. after the recall, i still have the light come on intermittently. i am concerned that the abs ecm module (2c219) will heat expanding the heat plate as described about 3/4 of the way down the page on this website: http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/#problem1. it is troubling to me that my abs light keeps coming on, making me wonder about the safety of my braking system, yet ford seems to have no idea what is going on and no desire to investigate thoroughly to fix this problem. i am concerned not knowing whether the abs system is even active or not, or whether every time the light comes on this indicates a damaging situation, overheating (if i remember correctly the 2009 recall was due to abs fluid dripping on the wiring harness), or something even blatantly dangerous out on the road. the events leading up to this failure are not known and inconsistent - the light will come on oftentimes when i am not even applying the brakes. the failure (light) occurs intermittently, sometimes as often as every time i run my windstar, other times perhaps only once every week; once in awhile the light extinguishes itself without shutting off the engine. what was done to correct the problem -- i have taken it to the ford dealers' several times but every time they seem completely baffled why the light is coming on.

 Abs ecm failure - abs brake light. the abs brake system does not function as designed by ford. the issue seems to be caused by heat in the abs (anti-lock brake system) ecm (electronic control module) (2c219) module causing expansion of a large aluminum plate (heat sink) in the ecm which is attached to the ecm main circuit board at all points. the expansion occurs when the unit gets warm especially in the summer months and causes intermittent electrical connection in the unit because the fragile board is being stretched and malformed. the code scans as code c1185 and shows on the dash board lights as a yellow abs brake light. it appears the anti lock braking system works only on an intermittent basis depending on the outside temperature. this is not very safe and creates a severe safety hazard. *tr

 I complained of a rattling noise sounding like chains under the hood of the van , starting from 7,700 miles to the present. each time taking it in and being told that they could not find a problem, to them fixing something and the noise still being there. i stated to them on several occasions that the van was not riding right. i complained of a loud grinding noise when i turned the wheel. again, they said nothing was wrong. the brakes where always rubbing and they replaced the pads. i was told semi-metallic pads make noises. they replaced the computer, because i complained that upon accleration the van would make a pinging noise. i was told it was combustion with the gas. i followed there recommendations about what gas to use, and other things to do. it still continued and they stated that they could do nothing else about it. i owned a '98 winstar and never had these problems and it did not drive the way my 2000 did. right now the van is sitting in my garage, with a broken transmission and i cannot get help from ford.i lease the van and i refuse to pay for repairs on a van, that ford should be resposible for. my lease is almost over and they should back their product up. i put alot of extra money in this van to keep it well maintained. i feel ford should help me.

 The abs system still is not working right. the mechanics say that the abs and the emissions could very well be caused by the same problem - a faulty computer. both modules have been diagnosed to be bad, however, the local ford dealership has been unwilling to use a "post warranty adjustment" to help fix this problem. it seems unreasonable that with just over 60,000 miles these types of problems can be considered anything but manufacturer defects.

 Right from the day i bought the van, i have had one issue or the other. here are some of the major issues. 1. tires - my new van had bumps on all 4 tires. every tire dealer told me they would burst on driving. they were general tires. i went to ford many times and opened a case with them also to no avail. after 12,000 miles, i decided to buy 4 new tires myself for the safety of my family at my own expense. 2. at 15,000 miles, i had to get my front brakes changed as they had reached their end of life. 3. at 15,000 miles, i also had to get my transmission fluid as well as drop pan changed as they worn out 4. at 30,000 miles, i had to get my front brake pads again changed (these were also worn out). what is surprising is that my rear brakes are fine 5. at 30,000 miles, i also had to get my transmission fluid as well as drop pan changed as they worn out 6. at 40,000 miles, my check engine light came on, for which i had to get the entire cooling system changed as well as had major engine work done to remove the light. the bill was in a few thousand, and i still don't know what they did to get it all fixed 7. at 45,000 miles, i had to get front rotors and brakes again. 8. at 45,000 miles i also had to get my front tie rods changed as they were squeaking 9. my automatic door sensor has never worked since i bought the van. if you shut the doors using the electronic door openers, and if something is in the way, it will still shut the door trapping the item, rather than reversing the process. 10. my drivers side power seats have just failed, and i am yet again faced with a large expense. i will never buy a ford again

 Abs ecm failure - abs brake light. the abs brake system does not function as designed by ford. the issue seems to be caused by heat in the abs (anti-lock brake system) ecm (electronic control module) (2c219) module causing expansion of a large aluminum plate (heat sink) in the ecm which is attached to the ecm main circuit board at all points. the expansion occurs when the unit gets warm especially in the summer months and causes intermittent electrical connection in the unit because the fragile board is being stretched and malformed. the code scans as code c1185 and shows on the dash board lights as a yellow abs brake light. it appears the anti lock braking system works only on an intermittent basis depending on the outside temperature. this is not very safe and creates a severe safety hazard. *tr

 My wife was coming off the freeway off-ramp and realized she had no brakes. the peddle had no give so she stood on the peddle and it slowed her down enough to make the turn and pull into a parking lot across the street. she then called to get the van towed to the shop. she was very lucky that she didn't have to make any sudden stop on the freeway because she wouldn't have had any brakes. she was also very lucky that there wasn't anyone in front of her on the off-ramp. it was the power booster that failed and then it took several weeks for them to get the parts as it was on a national back order, which lead me to believe alot more people were having the same problem. there was no warning the brakes were going out at all. the transmission has been making a loud clunking noise since about a month after we bought it and doesn't seem to shift right. we had it checked out in the shop at the time it was in for the brakes and the replaced a bracket. the van still does not seem to shift right at this time.

 I have a 2001 ford windstar and the fuse #10 kept blowing and the a/c, speedometer, odometer, etc.. stopped working. after researching on internet i found the culprit was a leaky brake pressure deactivation switch, which once i disconnected it the fuse stopped tripping and the ac and dashboard worked. i found that the brake pressure deactivation switch has leaked and also corroded and started to melt the cruise control wires, which hasn't worked in a while, and the abs light has been on and off for a while. this is a known fire hazard by ford and there is not yet a recall though it is very dangerous. i had to remove fuses 101 and 102 to prevent a fire and will need to replace the brake pressure deactivation switch at my own expense. *tr

 Vehicle: 2000 ford windstar se mini-van complaint: vehicle stop light switch sticks and stays on, draining the battery and creating a confusing situation to following drivers thus being a safety hazard. this drained my battery 3 times. ford dealer wants a lot of money to fix this. this is the same problem on the same year ford taurus and sable vehicles. the dealershirs have a repair policy number and service bulletin and will fix this for free on these vehicles. the ford windstar vans should be recalled as well. i want an answer from ford about this. i would even accept an offer for them to pick up part of the cost. i really feel though that this is a situation where the service rep from ford should call me and tell me to come on in to a dealer and we will fix it for free. *jb

 1. brake light came on and i had to have the brake reservoir filled. 2. brake fluid was leaking from pressure switch. it caused an electrical short, which caused a fire while the van was in the basement garage. i noticed the smell of smoke while unloading the van and was able to locate its source and disconnected the battery cables. 3. i called the ford dealer i purchased the van from, they said there was no recall on my van at this time, and they could sell me a pressure switch. i purchased the switch. then dropped the van off at the mechanic i use, and he replaced it. *jb

 2000 ford windstar. leaking cruise control deactivation switch. leaked enough brake fluid from master cylinder so that brakes failed. no accident. ford has a hold on replacement parts.
