| I bought the 2000 ford windstar on 09/12/2012. it had 125,000 miles. after i bought it i immediately took it to the mechanic shop to have them check it over. they found that the outer and inner tie rod ends needed to be replaced. also, the mechanics found that the transmission mounts needed to be replaced. also, the front struts and the rear shocks needed to be replaced. also, the front engine mount needed to be replaced. i had all that work completed for around $1,500. then a few months later, the vehicle broke down in my front yard. i turned the vehicle off and looked under the hood and the serpantine belt was snapped in half and the vehicle was smoking a little bit. a had the vehicle towed to the mechanics for $50. the mechanics diagnosed the powertrain. the mechanics found that the a/c compressor clutch needed to be replaced and it also had to have a evac and recharge the a/c system. this costed me $705.98. a few months later, which is now, on 12/21/2012, the vehicle is starting to make a loud clicking noise from the engine, or atleast i think it is the engine. while i was driving, the vehicle slowed down like there was a power surge or something, like it was going to brake down, so i immediately put the hazard lights on and drove 15-20 miles below the speed limit, all the way until i could make it safely back home. i don't know what is wrong with it this time. i have already invested almost $2,000 into this vehicle and i have only owned it for about 3 months! | |||

| I was just told that the electrical cluster for the speedometer/rpm/gas gauages on my 2000 ford windstar van is faulty. i have been experiencing periods of time when the gauges work just fine, won't work at all, or go completely beserk. they act out at various times; ie: just yesterday, i had been driving the van for about 15 min, gauges working fine, when i put it into park all the gauges went crazy, with the rpm needle ending up buried past the highest it could go. there have been times where it hasn't worked/gone beserk upon start up. there have also been times where it is working just fine on start up and within a couple of minutes/miles they all go beserk or stop working completely, and at that point, sometimes it goes back to working fine, and other times it doesn't. my dad just got this van for my kids and i less than a month ago, thinking it would be a safe vehicle for us. it's sad to think that my dad threw money away on a vehicle that his regular mechanic now says to just sell/junk it and get a different vehicle because of the gauge cluster being faulty, the recalls on the van and the mount for the exhaust system being busted. | |||

| Dear sir/madam i am filing this complaint for a ford windstar 2000, the rear axel, which was on recall and ford had contacted us to have it replaced, however after calling ford and all the nearest dealers and we actually went to a ford dealership as well. no dealership was able to provide the recall replacement for the axle or any repairs in that matter. thanks, ford owner | |||

| 2000 ford windstar: cracked rear axle and corrosion and related failures of the front sub-frame. we are writing to report a rear cracked axle and failed, damaged and corroded front sub-frame assembly of our 2000 ford van. ford recalled: certain 1998-2003 model year windstar vehicles operated in corrosion states for cracked or broken rear axles (safety recall 10513- supplement #10); and for failed and corroded subframe front lower control arm rear attaching flanges and rear body mount attachments. our ford van has both these failures and is unsafe to drive. the vehicle failed the state safety inspection due to its cracked axle. the inspector advised us the van was unsafe to drive. the koons ford service department has inspected the van and concluded that the rear axle and front sub-frame have failed because of corrosion and both need to be replaced. the vehicle was operated regularly in maryland and the district of columbia, as well as driven in the winter in snow and ice conditions in high corrosion states. we were told by koons that an extension of the recall was denied by ford because while the vehicle was operated in high corrosion states, it was not registered in a high corrosion state. northern virginia weather is similar to official adjacent high corrosion states. the national weather service groups northern virginia with areas of maryland and dc with regard to snow fall. sodium chloride (salt) is virginia's primary snow removal and ice control chemical. the registration requirement is erroneous. consideration should be given to whether a vehicle was operated in high corrosion areas, where salt is used . ford's letter of 1/ 26/2011 to nhtsa, states that we are taking the action to confirm our commitment to safety and to address any potential vehicle owner concerns.we request that the recalls be extended to our vehicle. | |||

| I am very concern about my 2000 ford windstar lx. i had two problems with my van in which a bracket came a loose on my van. i lost complete control of my van and had to pull over and call for help. thank god i was on the city roads and not the highway. the last time i had an incident, i was told that the rear axle is cracking and my subframe needs to be inspected. i was told that this could be extremely hazardous. i was told that i needed the rear axle replaced. i see that there has been recalls in the northern states but i reside in charlotte, nc. i feel that this needs to be extended out to the southern states. please consider in allowing us to have our axles inspected for the safety of our families; if the vehicle needs repairs to allow ford to repair this problem at no cost to us. | |||

| Had vehicle in for service recalls. recalls met the requirements to replace the subframe assy; however, it was repaired instead. contacted ford about my concern over how it was being fixed and was told that the dealer was given info. on how to do the repair and if there was any problem after it was fixed, i would have to take it up with the dealer because it would be a warranty issue with them, that ford would not help me. now after picking up the vehicle, the a/c no longer works. - it blew cold! air b4 they got it. | |||

| My 2000 ford winstar is at john lance ford in westlake ohio for the rear axle recall. they offered me a buyout . the thing is i can't afford a new car and the payments that come with it. i was very happy my windstar was finally paid off. now i hear that there is a new recall out from last week for a new reason. so now i have been with a replacement car ( provided by ford) for 4-5 months already. who in the mean time is starting my van from time to time through this brutal winter ? will i ever get my van back and if so will it be driver ready? i really would love a new auto and though the offer for the van is more then the blue book it is not enough. what is the status of my van repair and who should i call to service this loaner car as i feel it now needs some matenence? and feedback would be greatly appreciated . i have a feeling that the van is not repairable and this has been a very log incconveinence yours truly | |||

| I own a 2000 ford windstar. i have recently had my abs brake light go on and stay on, along with my traction control light also staying on and finally, my speedometer no longer works above 40 km per hour. all of these happened exactly the same time. i took it into ford and they are saying i need a new abs module but after reading about their abs recall issues and much written about how this problem is very common, i am inclined to think ford should fix this problem. hence my complaint to you guys. | |||

| We were traveling down the highway when car started to float side to side. something was not right so i slowed down. it seemed to be manageable but still felt something was not right. we pulled off to the nearest gas station only to realize that the front right tire had been chewed up and was now flat. the left tire also had slight wear marks. this was upsetting since the tires were only 5 months old and i had the dealership do a full alignment. when taking it back to the dealership and an inspection of the vehicle, he informed us that we were very lucky to have not been in an accident. while it was on the lift he showed us that one section of the sub-frame (engine carriage) was totally severed. | |||

| This is the second time in 3 years i have to replace my tailgate window for my 2000 ford windstar. 2007 july, it just shattered without any sign/ warning when i was on my trip to the provincial park. i replaced it thinking about i may be the 'lucky one'! last night again on my way to ottawa around kingston on hwy 401, it started from the wiper/ brake light area and shattered. my daughter was so afraid because she was seating at the back 2 times in a row!! i was questioning about the occurance and frequency??? i have to pay $400 for each replacement!! | |||

| At our inspection renewal appointment, the mechanic said front subframe of our 2000 ford windstar lx was cracked and rusted out, vehicle was very unsafe to drive, and could give out at any moment. obviouisly the vehicle did not pass the inspection. at recall appointment at local dealership regarding the rear axle, my wife expressed concern over the subframe as well, and employees there brushed off her inquiries as unrelated to the other suspension problem. she also questioned them about any past recalls on our vehicle and was assured that there were not, even though after researching this question we found that there were in fact other recalls on the windstar. | |||

| I was traveling on the chicago interstate i-290 at around 3:30 am when my rear axel snapped on my 2000 ford windstar minivan. the incident occured on the morning of september 27th, 2010 on a clear day with ideal road conditions but in a long term construction zone. i was traveling about 45 miles per hour and in light traffic when the axel snapped on the passengers side causing me to jerk violently to the right and through construction barriers into an open lane and onto the shoulder a short distance later. any other time, this could have been tragic but given the early hour of my travel to work and the reduced speeds due to ongoing construction i was able to control the violent movement to the right without injury or mishap. the car was towed a short time later to a local repair shop and i searched for information on broken axels and windstars i found the information on the ford recall. a local dealer paid for towing to ther lot, and arranged for a long-term loaner vehicle and for vehicle rental insurance. the car was maintained in a regular fashion but was 10 years old and had 184 thousand real miles on the odometer. it remains at the ford dealer in elmhurst, illinois awaiting word from ford motor company on any repair or replacement discussions. no offers of correction, repair, or replacement have been made to this time, october 20th, 2010 best regards, | |||

| I was on my way to work driving my 2000 ford windstar when suddenly the car rear axle broke in half the wheels where bowed out i had to have a tow truck flatbed the car but he had some difficult time because it completely snapped into two. a few days before i heard some squeaking sound coming from the back and i was going to take it to the mechanic but then these happened. now i have been hearing squeaky sound coming from the front and maybe is the front axle now. this is ridiculous i hardly had money to pay for the repairs and the tow truck and now i have to take it again. i have had problems with this car over and over again the check the engine light is always on even after i take it to the mechanic to take a look at it . i will never buy another ford ever again. i paid so much money to have it repaired i took pictures of the accident. | |||

| I was @ a stop sign with my 2 kids in the back. when i started to cross the busy intersection i heard a loud pop & the van lurched forward & stopped part way in the intersection. i could not drive forward. my kids were just screaming. luckily i was able to only drive in reverse (no one was behind me) & get the van out of traffic. my father is a mechanic & said he sees this all the time with windstars, especially the 2000. it took a couple of weeks to actually find a salvaged transmission (i was not going to pay for it to be rebuilt). apparently that transmission was only made for that one year because ford knew it was bad. but that made it that much harder to replace. | |||

| I was @ a stop sign with my 2 kids in the back. when i started to cross the busy intersection i heard a loud pop & the van lurched forward & stopped part way in the intersection. i could not drive forward. my kids were just screaming. luckily i was able to only drive in reverse (no one was behind me) & get the van out of traffic. my father is a mechanic & said he sees this all the time with windstars, especially the 2000. it took a couple of weeks to actually find a salvaged transmission (i was not going to pay for it to be rebuilt). apparently that transmission was only made for that one year because ford knew it was bad. but that made it that much harder to replace. | |||

| I was on my way to work driving my 2000 ford windstar when suddenly the car rear axle broke in half the wheels where bowed out i had to have a tow truck flatbed the car but he had some difficult time because it completely snapped into two. a few days before i heard some squeaking sound coming from the back and i was going to take it to the mechanic but then these happened. now i have been hearing squeaky sound coming from the front and maybe is the front axle now. this is ridiculous i hardly had money to pay for the repairs and the tow truck and now i have to take it again. i have had problems with this car over and over again the check the engine light is always on even after i take it to the mechanic to take a look at it . i will never buy another ford ever again. i paid so much money to have it repaired i took pictures of the accident. | |||
