Brought in van for recalls 09s09, 10s13 and 11s16. this was for the subframe issues and speed control switch. speed control switch was supposed to address leaking brake fluid. brake fluid still leaking and now dealership is charging me for brake switch repair and bleeding of brakes. also abs light came on after service and now dealership says abs sensor needs to be replaced. i believe these are all related to original recall but dealership says no. *tr

My abs light is on and will not go off and speedometer wouldn't work properly when the weather was really warm, and just september 21st 2012 my car was not able to switch out of park, and on oct.18th 2012 my brake light stop working all together. i have research this problem and there is a recall out on ford windstar 1998-2003 with the same problems. but when i called ford 10/22/12 they check my vin and stated that there was not a recall on my car only ford windstar van with parts made in virginia. i don't understand why my car cant be repair at ford expense when there is evidence that there i s a problem with the car. *tr

For the past several years my van has has intermittent problems with the brake lights on dash appearing while driving the car at various speeds. once i stop the car and turn it off the lights will usually disappear but sometimes will come back within minutes of restarting car. this tends to happen during warmer times of year versus winter. also i have noticed a problem with brakes even right after getting them replaced. the mechanic says there is nothing wrong with the brakes?? around the same time this started to happen my cruise control stopped working. i had recieved a notice from ford about cruise control recall but when i called the local dealer and told them that my cruise control was not working and i was wondering if it had something to do with recall they said no, that was not the problem. *tr

Purchased this vehicle in january 2012 and have had nothing but problems with it. according to ford all recalls have been done on this vehicle but here is a list of the issues with the van: abs light comes on, check engine light comes on, van has no cruise control at all, and last friday i could not put the van in gear. after the ford dealership repaired the solenoid for the van now all of a sudden there is currently no rear break lights. this van is less than safe to be on the road and have seen that some of the recalls would have solved the speed control issue but the ford factory will not answer any of my questions. take a look online and you will see thousands of people with the same issues we are having and it was brought to the attention of ford that we are having the same issues as thousands of other people so this is beyond a problematic vehicle.the vehicle is currently sitting at the local ford dealer while they try and figure out what is wrong with the light system. this vehicle has been in the shop twice since we have owned it and this is costing us hundreds (so far) to fix issues that everyone with this vehicle is having. the latest issues have led to us being without a vehicle for almost a week and we have a disabled child in the home and this is unacceptable.

We had our ford windstar brakes done all the way around and my abs and emergency brake light and traction light come on and off. the cruise control works sometimes. ford dealer in my town wont check it out without a diagnostic fee even thou a recall is said to be issued for the same complaints

The vehicle was checked by ford dealer in alamogordo, nm 88310 due to a recall for rear axle cracks, subframe corrosion and brake, abs brake, cruise control, and speedometer/odometer electrical problems on aug/16/2011. they sad there is no problem / or they fixed it. after that date, the brake/abs brake illuminated a couple of times, but went of after the engine was turned off/on again. also the cruisecontrol stopped working since and ist currently not working. i found that the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) is leaking!!!. it is completly wet and the fluid is dropping down slowly. pictures are available, taken today 04/04/2012.

Speedometer not working accurately (ocassionally speedometer will work than stops, which indicates defective part). ford says speedometer and gear needs to be replaced now. prior to that they said computer needed to be reprogrammed because of tire size.. cruise control did not work but was fixed by ford via recall notice due to leaking speed control deactivation swith (scds). as i understand the dealer would also inspect the abs control module connector and repair as necessary. abs and brake light are on all of the time which is a result abs control module failure.

Abs, and service brake, come on simultaneously. i am afraid that stopping distance shall be increased, thusly causing personal & property damage liability. fear of braking distance suddenly increased, when driving, on a personal daily basis. thanks, dj

The windstar is my only means of transportation and when driving it the speedometer will freak out and ended up breaking the needle on the tacometer and this leads to the theft light popping up when i am driving down the road. this acted up when i was going over and intersection and ended up stalling the vehicle right in the middle and while a car was coming from one way luckly i got the vehicle started and time and got out of there but after taking it to the dealership they couldnt even figure out what could be wrong i dont feel like loosing my life.

1st incident happened while driving at higway speeds. abs and brake light illuminated until car was turned off. lights now come on randomly. i took my vehicle to a ford dealership on aug. 31 2002 for recall on front and rear axles. they installed shackles on suspension and said that everything was fine. after i came home with vehicle, i noticed a clunking sound coming from the r/f wheel area and my overdrive off dash light starts flashing randomly until car is turned off. concerning the abs issue, i took my vehicle to an independent garage and they told me i needed to replace the abs control module, then he told me that they did the exact same repair on another 02' windstar earlier that week and the repair would cost $700-$800 dollars. coincidence????

Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the contact stated while driving 35 mph the brake light began to illuminate on the instrument panel. the contact added brake fluid and after restarting the vehicle all of the warning lights on the instrument panel began to illuminate. a certified mechanic from an authorized dealer examined the vehicle and informed that contact that fluid was leaking from the vehicle speed sensor and spilling onto the wiring harness. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where it was repaired under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v399000 (vehicle speed control). the dealer refused to repair the failure associated with the wiring harness and gauges on the instrument panel, which were caused by the speed sensor leak. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 137,000.

Abs and brake lights coming on for no apparent reason. had recall service on cruise control and the warning lights for the abs and brake lights have been coming on intermittently since that service was done. talked with the local ford service department and they are aware of this problem. said that the previous recall on the cruise control didn't have anything to do with my warning lights for abs and brakes (but they have had more issues with this problem than the cruise control recall). if i remember the correctly, the cruise control recall - it had something to do with brake fluid contact and potential for fire, my cruise was shorted out and not working - must have been from brake fluid. i am thinking that this flaw has something to do with electrical components connected from the brake and abs system to the warning lights being shorted out in a similar way; it is just a guess, i am sure that the real mechanics know what is going on.... this is a safety issue and ford needs to recall this design flaw; the warning device is not working as designed. i am sure that the $1,600 to fix the problem is an issue for ford. sometimes the lights turn on when i start the vehicle, sometimes i may be driving and they will turn on, at times the warning lights do not come on at all. the brakes are not effected from what i can tell and my fluid levels are normal. i hope that my brakes don't really experience a problem.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing an increased stopping distance whenever the brakes were applied. this failure occurred after the vehicle was repaired under the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 09v399000 (vehicle speed control). the contact also stated that the anti-lock brake and brake lights were illuminated on the instrument panel. the speed control deactivation switch was not leaking and there were no brake fluid leaks either, but the vehicle was experiencing braking issues. the failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 130,000. sm.

Ford performed safety recall 09s09 in 2009 but only installed safety wiring harness 2002. requested ford to replace both speed control deactivation swtich and abs module due to the know failures included in the investgation, but ford refused after a year the abs and brake warning lights strted to come on intermittently, now the waring lights come on everytime the car is drivern after several miles. based on research (http://www.2carpros.com/questions/ford-windstar-2003-ford-windstar-abs-c1185-trouble-code), i can see that this is very common problem with this vehicle and the problem and it causes braking safety issues in addtion to fire problem. the replace ment of the speed control deactivation switch and abs control module replacement should be required as part of 09s09 recall. the installation fo the wiring harness only minimizes the occurrence of possible fire, but does not address the main cause of the problems of the defective deactivation shitch and abs module.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 ford windsor. the contact stated that when coming to a stop with his foot on the brake, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on it's own. the vehicle ended up crashing into the rear end of the vehicle, which caused the other vehicle to hit another. the police were called and a report was available, no one was injured in the crash. the vehicle was then towed to a dealer and they have yet to diagnose the failure due to being destroyed. the failure mileage was approximately 125,000. the vin was unavailable. tb

I own a 2002 ford windstar and had recall 09s09 performed at my local dealership last november and now my cruise control does not work at all. also for the last 6-8 months my (yellow) abs and (red) brake lights come on and off on my dash. my power window on the driver side works only when it wants to and the passenger side window can be rolled down from the passenger side but has to rolled up from the driver side. and last but not least the rear door lock buzzes every time the doors lock which is every time i put the vehicle in gear.

Red (brake) light and yellow (abs) light illuminate on instrument panel while driving. in this condition, the abs does not work and hard braking results in rear wheels locking up even on dry road and partial loss of vehicle control. my mechanic says the abs module is going bad and it is a common problem with windstars. this vehicle was supposedly repaired in the 2009 cds recall. so far, lights come on about every 300 miles and are cleared (go off) once the vehicle is switched off and restarted. i think ford should replace the abs modules that are failing. also, prior to the 2009 recall, the cruise control resume function stopped working and is still out. i understand that may well be a symptom related to the leaking of brake fluid from the cds.

I was driving home from work when the low brake fluid light came on. i was headed to pull over when the dashboard went crazy. said tht the abs was bad, right brake light needed to be checked, traction control error, check transmission, mileage was gone only --------- listed, a/c stopped working, said fuel data computer error, speedometer was out. i am taking it to ford tomorrow to have the vehicle speed control replace and i believe this is what is causing this problem. the brake fluid may be leaking on everything because i did small a burning smell

The abs light on the dashboard of my 2002 ford windstar mini-van is on all the time. the ford dealer told me that i would have to replace the abs module for a price of $750.00 plus labor to correct this. then i received a letter from ford stating a recall involving the cruise control mechanism was needed to make my windstar safe from a possible fire. i had ford do the no-cost fix which amounted to a jumper wire with a fusible-link. however, this did not fix the existing abs problem. now, my speedometer is not functioning properly. i have read up on this problem and find that many windstar mini-vans manufactured between 1999 and 2003 have had similar problems and they all are related to the abs system. i believe that ford should completely fix these problems and owners should not have to pay an amount exceeding $1000.00 to do so. these problems were apparently inherent in these model years and repairs or replacements should be the responsibility of ford, not the vehicle owners. i can still drive my windstar but will have to have the speedometer problem fixed at a minimum (if that is possible singularly). not having the abs problem fixed may lead to further complications, but i cannot afford these costly repairs at this time.

Brought vehicle into ford for nhtsa campaign id number: 09v399000, nhtsa action number: ea08021. vehicle still getting a hot, burning smell. abs and emergency icons still come on at various times lasting for hours or days then shutting off. drives rough with a distinct chugging effect like it is going to stall. complete tune up has been done including replacing spark plugs, intake valves and seals. burns oil at a slow rate (approx 1/4 litre every 1 1/2 months) the abs/emergency lights come on at least once a week and the chugging and burning smell is every time you drive it. the recall work was done and we were told the scds did indeed leak and personal research reveals that then the ecm connector needs replacing which ford refuses to do for us.

This is an update to odi number 10278659. the cruise control actuator switch was identified as leaking brake fluid by my independant auto repair shop. they replaced the cruise control actuator switch part number yf1z 9c888 ab at a cost of $34.56 for parts and $22.50 for labor. they also replaced the wiring harness that connects to the switch. after this was done, the cruise control started to work consistently again. the abs light and brake warning light still come on intermittently. sometimes i have noticed they go on after i hit a bump. once they go on, they remain on for the duration of the journey (until the car is turned off). *tr

I own a 2002 ford windstar and a couple months ago my van almost caught fire because of the brake deactivation switch under the master cylinder shorted out. it started leaking brake fluid immediately. i took it to my mechanic to have it fixed and he told me they were having problems with these switches shorting out and catching the automobile on fire. a month ago my abs brake light came on and a few days later the # 10 fuse blew and smoke started coming out from under the van. we immediately disconnected all the fuses associated with the abs brake module. i do not have abs hooked up now and i do not feel very safe driving around without it but i do not have the money to put it in the shop again for the same problem. i would like for ford to recall and take care of this very faulty abs brake system. *tr

Ford windstar 2002. cruise control only engages intermittently. when cruise control is on, it will dis-engage abruptly for no reason. yellow abs dash light and red brake warning dash light go on intermittently (simultaneously). after they go on, they stay on until the car is turned off. the abs system appears to still work correctly even when the yellow abs light is on and the red brake light is on (although there is no way for the driver to tell if the abs system and brake system are working correctly or not when the warning lights are on). my local ford dealership diagnosed that the ecm control module needs to be replaced. this is an expensive electronic component with no moving parts, and there is no reason that this board should be failing. this is a common problem with 2002 ford windstar models. i believe ford should be required to offer free diagnosis and repair for any problems related to ecm control modules for this model year. i first noticed the problem around october 2008 as the weather turned colder. this is consistent with a theory that the ecm board is sensitive to temperature changes, which affects the correct working of the cruise control and abs systems. the cruise control mostly did not work during the winter 2008-2009. as warmer temperatures arrived in spring 2009, the cruise control started to work intermittently again. sometimes it engages correctly, sometimes i push the set button repeatedly and finally it engages, sometimes i push the set button repeatedly and it will not engage. when it is engaged, it will dis-engage abruptly for no reason. i suspect sometimes it dis-engages because the car hit a bump in the road - but frequently it dis-engages with no bump in the road. having the cruise control dis-engage abruptly for no reason is a safety issue and could easily result in an accident. having the abs system not work correctly (due to the ecm module) is a safety issue and could easily result in an accident. *tr

My van brake light and abs light had been coming on for at least 6 months... my mechanic was trying to determine if it was the abs switch or abs module and just reset the codes after a tune-up. we would add brake fluid to the car on several occasions. the failure occurred when i started my van and backed out of a parking spot. i smelled something burning and realized my van was smoking. at first i thought it was steam and then i realized it was white smoke. so i reparked my vehicle, shut it off and popped the hood. when i got around i followed the engine from left to right and in the back right was a perfect propane flame. i blew it out. i noticed the part was connected down below the brake fluid reservoir, wired ran to that part, on the bottom the part that was on fire was rusted. but it appeared to plug into the part it was attached to like a key and then wires came down from there... my mechanic disconnected the part saying i would not longer have cruise control and he ordered the part from ford in milledgeville, ga. he replaced the part on 8/25/08. i do not believe the old part is still available. since the part has been replaced my brake light and abs light still come on! *tr

Failure of the brake/cruise control deactivation switch caused leaking brake fluid to fall into and cause failure of abs module. i am aware that the nhtsa is investigating and i encourage you to demand an immediate and complete recall. this is a serious fire hazard that can happen even while the vehicle is parked in the garage, hours after the vehicle was shut off. please act! *tr

Smoke came from under the hood numerous times. the last time caused so much damage under the hood the van was not drivable. had the van towed into the ford dealer and they gave me a quote and said it was the master cyl , brake fluid had leaked and it dripped on something that caused it to start a minor fire that caused lots of smoke. the speed sensor was damaged. the final price to fix was $1,003.00 most of which was labor. i have heard numerous cases similar to this one and i believe ford should be responsible for the fixing of these problems. *tr

I own a 2002 ford windstar and have had recent abs / brake problems. after further examination it was found that the cruise control deactivation switch was leaking brake fluid onto the abs brake control module which caused damage to the module. upon more investigation, it has come to my attention that this switch is always hot whether the engine is running or not. this is turn could cause a fire from the brake fluid leakage. i have also learned that this switch in question has caused many other problems and even death with other ford models. i will have to disengage my cruise as well as my abs system to ensure to fire. this worries me as i want the safest for my family but at this time cannot afford the fix. hopefully ford will own up and pay to fix this mess that was caused by a $30 switch. *tr

I have a 2002 ford windstar that we purchased 2 yrs ago, ...morning after delivery battery was dead, took back to dealer and they checked it out and said should be fine. occasionally still dies and has to be charged, alternator & battery check out fine. the most dangerous problem is that the abs light is on and abs doesn't work properly. we continuously have to add brake fluid (at least once a month) and can not find any leaks on the ground. had the vehicle in for service on several occasions can not diagnose. the dealership hooked vehicle up to machine to read code and can not get any readings from system. dealership seemed to think that it could be a wiring problem or abs module. abs will occasionally go out/work but not properly, abs will kick in on dry roads not wet/snow covered. tire pressure light is illuminated and tire pressures are all correct. has been reset but comes back on after driving a few miles. occasionally it will go out on its own but then the speedometer will bounce around (if going 55 will jump to 70,80). when opening the rear tailgate hatch and closing, the dash light stays on like it is still open and dome lights will not work properly. when driving the door chime will sound and the door ajar light will go out and works properly until gate is opened again. when driving the door light and chime will come on lights stay on. the door ajar light also comes on and off intermittently when using the driver side door controls to put windows up/down you hear louder then normal clicking. also dims the lights when putting windows up/down. we can also smell what seems to be wires burning at times but can not find anything. we are at a loss of where to begin. we will not drive this vehicle any further then 50 mile radius from our home for fear of what will happen if we do. if we go further we rent a vehicle. now to the point of purchasing a cheap, reliable vehicle (not ford) and parking this one until we can pay down enough to trade in. *tr

This has happened over the past two weeks. about february 15, 2008 i was having trouble keeping pressure in my brakes. they were spongy. i called a mechanic and brought it to him on february 16th. he said it was the master cylinder, and replaced it and the wheel cylinders. well, the van worked for about a week. then monday, february 25, 2008 my brakes again went spongy. i checked the brake fluid and there was none. i refilled the container, and called a mechanic. i brought the vehicle to him on february 26, 2008. he determined it was the cruise control pressure switch. i then went to tousley ford dealership and got the part. tousley ford in minnesota said this particular part is in recall for several other vehicles but not mine. my mechanic replaced the part and the vehicle hasn't had any problems. as a matter of fact, now the cruise control works again. it had gone out last summer some time. this recall is for a fire hazard, and i saw where the brake fluid can leak through that switch onto wiring so there could have been a fire in my van. my complaint is that my vehicle, and family are just as important to me as the vehicles and families of the other people who were able to get their vehicles fixed in the recall. i drive a 2002 ford windstar sport minivan. i do foster care and have birth children, and grandchildren in that vehicle all the time. so, i am very upset that ford does not recall this fire hazard on all vehicles. my family is very important! *tr

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL
09/28/20023008/15/2002
We own a 2002 ford windstar with adjustable height for the brake/accelerator pedals. unfortunately the adjustment button is on the center console right where my right knee rests. the design allows for adjustments while the vehicle is in motion. on too many occasions my knee has hit the button while in motion causing the vehicle to accelorate or deccelerate unexpectedly. as of now no accidents have resulted, however, one can easily see the safety concern. i contacted ford and they refuse to disable the feature because that was the original design of the vehicle although in my mind it was a faulty design to have the pedals adjust while in motion.*ak
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - CRUISE CONTROL

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the contact noticed that the instrument panel lights and the power locks were failing. he replaced the fuse several times and smelled a burning odor underneath the hood of the vehicle. the contact found fluid leaking from the vehicle, which originated from the cruise control. the wiring harness was damaged. the dealer replaced the cruise control wiring harness, switch, and the speedometer wiring harness at the cost of $888. the manufacturer stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v336000 (vehicle speed control); therefore, they would not assist. the vehicle has been repaired. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 80,000.

Brake pressure differential deactivation switch leaking causing loss of brake fluid and fluid has wicked into cruise module and abs module causing red brake light, abs light, intermittent speedometer and odometer, complete lack of cruise control, loss of abs function. replaced bpdds, cruise control now sometimes functional, no other problems fixed. damage caused by leaking fluid still present. *tr

Brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) over time developed a leak. my cruise control has stopped responding, and brake fluid is leaking at an exponential rate out of the reservoir above the master cylinder. *tr

Ford windstar cruise control switch shorted out. that caused the brake fluid to leak on the electrical system and shorted it out. the dealer said it is a fire hazard and other fords had been recalled but not the ford windstar. now this is costing us 2500.00 to get fixed. my parents windstar is starting the same thing and my dad is handicap so if it catches fire there may not be enough time to get him out please recall the windstar also before something bad happens. thank you *tr

2002 ford windstar with inoperable cruise control, odometer, a/c temp. control, abs light remains on and other related electrical malfunctions. vehicle is leaking brake fluid and i have no doubt i'm experiencing the same problem thousands of other windstar owners are with a contaminated brake pressure differential deactivation switch. is ford taking responsibility for this manufacturing defect and providing a fix - without charge??? *tr

My wife asked me to check the brakes because the brake light was on. i had checked the wheels for any leakage and found none. the master cylinder was low so i started to look for leak at other places and found the leak at the brake light switch. the brake fluid was leaking on the wires. so i looked on line and found a article that can cause a fire in the engine compartment. this why i am making this complaint. i as have lost my cruise control and the article said that this will happen. i am going to change the switch and replace the fuse if needed. *tr

My 2002 ford windstar van had an inoperable cruise control. i traced the problem to a leaking (brake fluid) switch mounted under the brake master cylinder. the leaking switch leaked flammable brake fluid onto the hot engine or exhaust system but did not caused a engine fire. i purchased a modified switch and wire harness from the ford dealer and installed it myself. i was told by the ford parts salesman that there was no recall for my windstar at that time. this is the same defect found on the other ford vehicles according to the new york times, 18 april 2008. i still have the defective switch in hopes i can be reimbursed by ford. the defective switch is available for inspection if needed. *tr

I have been reading about recent complaints to the ford windstar 2002 and have concerns. i had my abs module replaced last year because all my idiot brake lights were going off intermittently. i have also not used my cruise control in over two years because once activated it will not shut off until the car is turned off. it appears that the brakes are related to the cruise control leaking on the brake line, but ford does not see the windstar as a problem. this concerns me, since there have been fires with the windstar van. i also took my car into a ford dealership to check the seat latches and was told my car was not covered. my recent repair woes is the air conditioner compressor is going. this was a problem with my last ford windstar. (related vehicle information: model year=2002, make=ford, model=windstar). *tr

Our cruise control went out on our 2002 ford windstar. we took it to the local ford service station and they explained that the brake fluid was leaking onto the cruise control. it apparently is a recall with several ford brands but not with the windstar yet. the mechanic explained that we were lucky the cruise control went out and that it didn't start a fire! *jb

While driving to work i noticed my odometer and speedometer quit working and then every light possible lit up, so when i got to work my husband told me to see if i could get it to grande truck center in san antonio. i left it and later received a call telling me the wiring harness had shorted out and i was very lucky that my van did not burn up. i was told maybe a varmint had chewed on the wires, but my van is always parked in the garage at night.. i decided to do some research after recalling an incident not far from our home that involved some type of ford suv that caught fire in the garage and burned the house down. all this was due to a faulty cruise control switch that cost about 21.00. i found that millions of vehicles had been recalled by ford because of this problem and the windstar was on the list of having the same or similar switch, but was not recalled and still has not been recalled. i have put a request in with grande truck to be reimbursed, since it was a manufacturer error and nothing i did, but to date i have not heard from them. i emailed ford to ask why my van was not recalled and received an answer that all recalls are handled by the nhtsa. yes, i do have the original switch that was removed from the van (looks like part#f58a-9f924-aa 2063) it was kind of hard to read. the invoice states replace abs module & hydraulic unit, replace wire harness & cruise control switch, service bleed, bleed sys. $2654.81. my husband was allowed to see the wiring harness that was almost burnt in half, but that was not kept. i thank god that there was no real tragedy that came out of this, but i also feel that ford is responsible and should take action to reimburse me my money. i would like to know if you have received any other complaints on the ford windstar. when i contacted your office by phone i was told that there was a new recall as of 8-31-2007, that included the windstar, but i did not see that information. thank you for your time. updated 12/12/07 *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2002 ford windstar. the failure mileage was 79000 ,and the current mileage was 84000. the dashboard brake warning light was constantly turned on. brake fluid was put into the vehicle. however the warning light remained on, and the vehicle still needed more brake fluid. the vehicle has had no failure stopping. the dashboard lights turned off, but the power windows and doors malfunctioned. the mechanic stated that the electrical problems were the result of the defective cruise control. the mechanic disconnected the cruise control. *ak

My husband, my 7 month old baby and i were driving on our way to lunch at about 30 mph when we noticed smoke coming out of the hood of our 2002 ford windstar. immediately smoke filled up our cabin through the vents. my husband pulled over to the side of the road, and i quickly got my baby out of the van. my husband opened the hood and saw flames and we all ran away from the car. my husband ran to a nearby business that luckily had a fire extinguisher. my husband was able to put the fire out in time before who knows what could have happened. my husband took the car to an auto shop that happened to be very close to where the incident happened. after having to let the car cool down and the terrible smell go away the mechanics looked at the car and told us right away that they knew it was the same cruise control switch that has been recalled on ford trucks. he advised us to take the van to ford and have them fix it without any charge because that was a problem that should have been recalled in the windstar as well. my husband took the van to the local ford shop and they did agree that the problem was the cruise control switch. they upgraded the part and then tried to charge us almost $400 for the job. not until after i complained to the manager did they waive the fee, but told me it was because i was a local customer (i have never bought anything from their dealership) they waived the fee because they knew this was a problem of fords. *jb

While driving at any speed, intermittently the back right sliding door comes ajar. the problem has occurred on three occasions. the dealer has no idea what causes the problem. currently, the consumer has a problem with the back/left side door closing securely. *ak the door had been leaking since the vehicle was purchased. the door had a significant difference in space between the front door in comparison to the driver door. also the cruise control was inoperative. *sc *jb
