| About march of 2012 my 2003 ford wind star's lower control arm separated from the sub frame engine cradle. i took my van to dealer. they did do a repair to sub frame, which i did not find satisfactory, ford corp. had them cut off what was left of any damaged brackets and clamp steel brackets onto a sub frame that is already damaged due to heavy rust and corrosion. now about one year later march of 2013 the sway bar mount, which is part of the sub frame has rusted out. making driving very unsafe and unstable. this problem should have been rectified when the recall was done in 2012. i took van back to the dealer. they sent pictures to ford corp. ford did not approve any repairs to sub frame stating that it was not part of original recall. now how is that possible if the sub frame and sway bar mount are all one component. it's all one welded piece of steel. there is no fix at this time but to replace the sub frame. now if the sub frame is under recall and the sway bar mount is part of the sub frame, then i feel ford should rectify the problem. i plan on keeping my ford wind star for a while. i feel this is a serious safety issue and really needs to be delt with. ford should cover this component or they get away with an unsatisfactory fix and i still have to pay for a new sub frame, which was the whole issue to begin with. | |||

| My instrument panel keeps going crazy. the rpm needle is now pointing down into the dash. the speedometer usually is not working correctly, it will say that i am doing 20 mph, when i am doing more like 45-50. the gas guage sometimes says that it is on empty, when i have a full tank of gas. sometimes the needles work, sometimes they don't (with the exception of the rpm needle...it hasn't moved from that buried in the dash spot for a couple of months now), sometimes the speedometer needle goes all the way to the right and then gets buried in the dash also, so far though, each time, it has came back...even though it rarely registers even close to the correct speed. the repair for this is going to be about $700 is what i was told. i do not have that kind of money, and i am constantly praying that my 17 year old daughter who has to drive it sometimes, does not get into an accident because she is going too fast, and has no clue how fast she is actually going, or one of us may get a speeding ticket. i have looked at websites and seen that a lot of people are having these problems, so ford should do the right thing and make a recall, before someone is seriously injured or even killed!!! also, not sure if it is related or not, but the abs light stays on. | |||

| Car stopped running,after stopping would not restart with switch on,turned off ign switch and turned back on and it restarted. i inquired at the ford dealer and they said they never heard of this problem. since that this has happened 100's of times including a number of times on a roundabout where the loss of pwer steering is especially scaring. i have adjusted to this problem by putting the car in neutral,turning off the ignition and then on and starting the engine again, normally this is an inconvenience but on a 2 lane roundabout it is a danger. | |||

| Vehicle violently buckles forward and back when stopped at light. this continues for a few minutes then the abs light, break light, and check engine light turn on at the same time and the car stops buckling. this happens at least once each time i use the vehicle. so approximately 5-9 times a day. the buckling is so bad i'm afraid my foot will slide off the break pedal and i will roll into an intersection. i took my vehicle to theodore robins ford in costa mesa (949) 642-3017 today and they say there is nothing they can do. i also found this website talking about this exact problem http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/. please help martin millard 7142278818 | |||

| 2003 ford windstar 71,000 miles - bought new for $35,000 in december 2003, i purchased a new 2003 ford windstar. i am the only only driver of this van, to and from work and a few road trips. in the beginning a few things went wrong but i wasn't too concerned at the time. since then, here is a list of things that has gone wrong with this van: 1.no heat - bendor actuator 2.driver's side side window wouldn't roll up or down (fixed) 3.passenger side window and back windows do not work 4.interior lights go on and off 5.gasket replaced on engine because car was dying when i came to a stop. ($450) 6.rear window defroster doesn't work 7.rusting out by back tires 8.transmission failure $2,800. fluid from the radiator got into the transmission fluid! | I recently bought a 2003 ford winstar mini van in flordia from someone on craigslist in that use to live in virginia. no longer than 2 weeks after i bought the van the engine light, abs, and brake light came on and the van was jerking very hard when the gears were changing. i took the van to a ford dealership and paid $90 for a diagnosis test. the dealership informed me i had to replace the full body throttle which i paid $230 for. 2 weeks after i replaced the full body throttle the engine, abs, and brake light came back on and the jerking continued. i was not informed by the dealership that there was a recall on the ford windstar mini van 99-03. | |||

| While driving, i felt the van was not shifting, so i went to the dealer i bought it from. they said there was nothing wrong with the tranny. the problem still existed. i took it back to dealer-again, nothing wrong with tranny but they did do a transmission tune up. when i picked it up, i drove into town. i was driving on the highway and had to stop on a red light. on green, i pressed my gas pedal but the car would not move. in a desperate effort, i shut the engine off and waited a few minutes. i was able to move again, but for only about a quarter mile to have to do the same repeatedly until i got to a safer spot. finally, i ended up leaving my van parked at a shopping center and called a cab home. this is not the only problem i have been going through with my ford winstar van. the interior lights flash on and off while i am driving, and my air conditioning doesn't work, even when i had free on put it. i do not have the money for another car, nor do i have the money for a new tranny, along with having it put in. i live in a town where there are no buses and can only get a ride from a taxi. i don't have $10 one way for this! i need to get to work, and cannot afford to lose my job....all because of a malfunctioning vehicle that is causing same problems for many others out there. ford should be recalling these vehicles! | |||

| Brought my 2003 ford windstar sel (with 78,397 miles on it) in to dealer to have it checked for subframe recall, the engine light began flashing, and the abs, brake light, and trac off lights had all gone on. during the diagnosis, they found that the subframe was fine, the spark plugs needed to be replaced, the ignition coil needed to be replace (causing cylindar 3 to misfire), and the pcm needed to be resealed for moisture. (march 3rd, 2011) they found no hard code for the brakes. we get the necessary work done, drive the van home, and within a day the abs light, brake light, and trac off light come back on. call and have the dealer look at van again, they now find code 1185 (pin point test found abs module not responding). the dealer replaced the abs module and rescanned with no codes and was road tested. everything seemed fine (march 7th, 2011), i pick up van, within 4 hours, the abs light, brake light, and trac off light are back on. as of right now, the van is back at the dealers being checked again. this is very disappointing. in the last week, i have had to bring this particular van in 4 times due to problems. this all comes after having work done on this van in december. in december 2010, they performed system diag,, dtcs, po174, po174, lean on both banks, inspect for vacuum leaks, found leaks at intake manifold runner control shafts, required intack manifold replacement to correct, replaced intake manifold and required parts, including cleaned fuel injector, changed oil and filter cleared dtcs, retested verified proper operation. manifold, 2 seals, 5 gaskets, isolator, thermostat, anti-freeze, coupling, fuel system, filter, engine oil). this should not be the case with a van that has less than 80,000 miles on it. | |||

| I understand there is a recall on certain ford windstar models in the northern states due to a defective rear axle. i have a 2003 ford windstar van vin: 2fmza51463ba38608 which we purchased used in july 2004. from what we were told when we bought it, the vehicle came from ohio. on 12/28/10, i called a local ford dealer who ran my vin through their database and i was told my vehicle is not part of the recall. i was told it would cost $95 for their service dept. to check my rear axle for the defect since it isn't under the recall. i want to make sure my vehicle is or is not part of the recall. i saw a abc news report on dec. 20th which makes it sound like the recall may be extended to certain vehicles. if my vehicle originated in ohio, it should be part of the recall. please help me with this situation. thanks! | |||

| I took my car in to ford due to a failure in the instrument panel. my speedometer was spinning and stuck in an approximate 5:00 o'clock postion...in addition, my prndl needle stuck in the park position and would not move. on top of this, my abs/brake lights were coming on and off sporatically and occasionally smelled like something burning. the ford dealer replaced my instrument cluster and attempted to fix the abs/brake light problem. the fix didn't last more than two weeks...the abs/brake light is back to going on and off. according to the information that they gave me, the parts are no longer available for the abs/brake light repair...they assured me that my service brakes still worked. in the process, i have been told about recalls to the 2003 ford windstar for similar problems in other vehicles, however, i was told that these recalls didn't pertain to me. if i am experiencing the same problems that others are having and they are getting their repairs fixed at no charge to themselves, why am i paying for repairs for the same problem items??????? the sway bar links on my windstar were also repaired along with the bushings...again...another recall that seems to have been issued but i was told that it didn't apply to me. now i have my windstar in the shop, again, because the transmission pump exploded and damaged the transmission. no warning, no check engine light, nothing. how much of an additional expense is this going to be???? oh, i did receive the recall notice for the rear axle...that will be checked right after i get my car back from having the transmission repaired. why are some vehicles covered and others aren't??? if it affects a 2003 ford windstar, it should be all of them, not just some of them. | |||

| We bought our 2003 windstar in august of 2006 used from a car lot. in the spring of 2008 the locks on the driver side rear door will lock and unlock on their own. it doesn't matter if we are parked or driving down the road and all of a sudden you hear this awful sound. shortly after that i noticed leaking from the driver side in the front behind the tire and then the steering was making a noise and beginning to turn hard. we ended up replacing the rack and pinon and the power steering pump. then in october 2009 we ended up replacing the wheel bearing on the front driver side. we were told that the transmission was going out. we had a mechanic friend of ours come and take a look to have it done cheaper. we then found out that the radiator was also going out. so we had it parked and replaced the radiator in january of 2010 and left it parked because we couldn't afford to pay for the new transmission at the time. it had roughly 13x,xxx miles on it when it failed. we finally bought another one and replaced this in february of 2010. we have just replaced the wheel bearing on the right side in the beginning of november of 2010. we have now taken it in for the recall and found out that it has 3 cracks in it. the dealership wants extra money to check the subframe so i am waiting for our mechanic friend to take a look and see what other surprise we may have. once we find out i will be reporting back about the subframe if it also has an issue. we are very frustrated because we still owe $5600 on this and have already paid so much for this overpriced van on top of all the money we put in to it. we are beginning to be scared to drive this with our children in it when it eventually gets fixed. please help, what else is gonna go wrong!!! the date is not exact but approximate. | |||

| System failure, speed control, speedometer, odometer, heater/airconditioner after looking up online what caused my systems to fail, i went to sinclair to purchase the part. i was told by parts mngr that it was on re-call for that and i would have to have it fixed by their service dept. they confirmed this was on re-call and had me return later that afternoon. after four and a half hours i was asked to come back that they were having difficulty fixing the problem. i attempted to make an appt later the next day and was told it was too late that i did not bring my vehicle in in a timely manner and they will no longer fix my vehicle. their are no expiration dates on this re-call. i have received a customer service receipt explaining what they did and stating that they strive to give the best customer service. what a joke, they left me with a vehicle that is not safe to drive in this condition, after taking up my whole afternoon. i responded with a very disheartened lack of satisfaction and was referred to ford headquarter. i was told that this was never a re-call item by ford. if this was handled acurately the first time, my car would already be fixed. dave would never have let this happen, he built this dealership on the concept of good customer service. if his team made an error, he would fix it on principal even if it meant he ate the cost. i guess his reputation was buried with him. i will be looking to purchase a vehicle in january and i will purchase from someplace else. dave sinclair ford 7466 s. lindbergh blvd st. louis, mo 63125 phone: (888) 746-2524 please help us get our van fixed | |||

| Sit down, get a coffee, because you will be reading a book. i purchased a 2003 ford winstar, with 20,000 miles, in 2005. i've had nothing but major problems. in 12/2008 with 87,205 miles the transmission went,that was 2013.00 , then in 3-2009 check engine light, had to replace gaskets, that cost 500.00,. then in 10/15/2010 i had to bring van in for different sensors, and abs light, and emergency brake light kept coming on. that was . that was 232.00. then on 10/19/2010 brought van in to the ford dealer, because none of my gauges work, letting me know how fast i'm going, or how much gas i have. they say it is the gauge cluster, thats 500.00 alone not including labor, they they inform me i have a hole in the left rear axle, and i have to leave the van there, and i may also need a new alternater, and it may takes weeks for the part to come in. thats not including other miner repairs along the way. the best part of all. i still have 6 payments left. what rights do i have? i can't believe all the major issues. they shoud take this van, and give me a different one. not a ford. i told you, that you were reading a book. | |||

| Abs and brake light failure warning, 2003 ford windstar instrument panel lights come on and go off indicating an abs & brake (seperate lights for each) issue. in researching this issue on the internet and with local mecahnic, i've learned that this is a known and common problem with this make, model and year vehicle which has yet to be acknowledged by the manufacturer. i am also told that this could result in failure of the abs braking system and/or the standard braking system itself if not repaired. the failure code is 1185 according to my mechanic, which is apparently a control or power module? i've already replaced all the brake pads, resurfaced the rotors and have had all fluids and lines inspected for leaks, etc. - it appears that ford is now going to make me pay another $700 - $1,000 to fix this issue with the abs (which, in myu opinon, they should be doing for free as this is a safety issue that may cause increased risk of crash or injury steming from their poor design and/or parts. what ever happened to ford's slogan quality is job 1? | |||

| I have a 2003 ford windstar and have had nothing but problems with it. since purchasing the car i have had issues with the electrical system or something which ford claims they can not figure out what the problem is- all they kept saying is you need to pay $ for diagnostic tests which will probably not even tell them the answer to the problems because in order to catch the problem they need to catch it just as it happens which is near impossible. long story short-i have put nothing but $ into this van which i feel should be recalled because after doing research on all the problems there are alot of people that are complaining about the exact same issues for the exact same year and model van. as of now i am stuck with no car to get to work and to get my kids to school because the van won't start and it had to be towed to the shop once again. events leading up to the failure- domes lights flickering on and off at random while driving even with the switch in the off position, fuses getting blown from opening windows, automatic door locks only working when it wants to, alternator and battery failure, transmission failure, and now they have no clue why it is not starting. failures happen every year since i have had the van. i have had the alternator and battery replaced every year and had the transmission replaced as well. i have had problems with the ac and heat and the brake and abs lights coming on and off at random. i have been stranded on the side of the road with my children and just can't afford to do this anymore. | |||
