Defect SummaryVehicle description: motor homes built on spartan chassis equipped with axle assemblies which may have been manufactured with trw model 20edl ball sockets/drag links. the tie rod ball-socket bearings have a below specification case depth and/or hardness which can lead to premature wear out of the socket in some applications.
Consequence SummaryIf this condition occurs, the driver can lose steering control, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the drag link assemblies. trw is conducting the owner notification and remedy for this campaign. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact trw at or forest river at 1-219-533-5934.

 While traveling at approximately 60 mph in a rain storm engine stalled, and consumer had to direct vehicle to the side of road. a dealership examined 1999, ford. the vehicle was checked and no electrical problem was found only the air filter was saturated with water and was replaced. then in april 2001, engine stalled in a rain storm while traveling at 60 mph. a separate dealership examined vehicle, and replaced air cleaner, and drained oil in vehicle. *ak
POWER TRAIN - AXLE ASSEMBLY

 Cooper tires on the fifth wheel travel trailer would keep blowing out & would disintergrate into pieces. finally, noticed tires were being cut by the inside by the steel cables. the steel cables would rub against the tire & cause it to blowout. axle was not corrected & would be out of alignment. tires were manufacturer by michelin. *ak consumer states cables were rerouted behind frame, consistent with new models and has solved the problem. *slc

 Dt: the vehicle is bowing because the mso is 7575 and the gvw is 16110. manufacturer says that the trailer is within the legal constraints, and they wont repair it. dealer requested calculations, but the manufacturer won't give them up. manufacturer admitted that the upright post should be heavier, the trailer top rail should be heavier. this trailer is used to transport a race car and tools. the length is 48 feet, and the width is 102 wide. height is 8'8. owner reported that the sides were bowing ,and then it was sent to factory, after repairs the sides bowed again. us cargo is the manufacturer, owner by forest river inc. us cargo phone number is 1-888-565-9190.*ak

 A foot long crack was located around the main i beam,causing the motor home's left side to be lower than the right side. consumer stated that the crack was a design flaw. consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer, and mechanic noticed the cracks but no defect was present at this time. *ak
