TIRES - TREAD/BELT
08/31/200312700109/08/1999
I was driving down the road going approx. 60 miles/hour and the tread of the dual inside driver's side tire on a 1999 ford e-450 motorhome(fourwinds) peeled off, and then the tire blewout. tire that blew out was a lt225/75r16 dot#vdhl1x0209 ,firestone steeltex. the vin on the motorhome is 1fdxe40s0xhp88325. the tire was the original tire sold on the motorhome. there was approx. 12,700 miles on the tire. the approx. mileage on the motorhome at the time of the blowout was 12,700. i do still have the tire and the tread of the defected tire also, i have pictures of the tire and the damage that was done to the underside of the motorhome. i did contact the insurance company, allstate, and they are sending an adjuster to inspect the damage done by the tire blowout. state patrol was called for traffic movement and safety. the tire was properly inflated and was checked regularly. there was 80 pounds of pressure in the tire. the pressure was the amount that i was listed on the tires. *ak

Firestone steeltex tires on a 2000 four winds motor home. 2 tires have tread separation at approx. 16,000 miles. one was on the front, one was on the rear. the tires failed within 300 miles of each other. i contacted firestone and they said the motor home was overloaded and we needed to have the motor home weighed. the second tire failed when the motor home was empty. it was being taken to a dealer for repair. the firestone dealer will not warranty the tires. they give the tire failure was due to improper alignment. we took the tires to several independent dealers and they all said it was a manufacture problem not a maintenance or overload problem. needless to say, we will not buy firestone tires. *nlm

Traveling eastbound on i 84 near mountain home id. outside left rear duel blew. i was at 60 mph. clear weather. 85 deg. smooth roadway. the tire did considerable damage to the storage compartment directly behind the tire. two est. one was $2072, the other at $2405. i called firestone customer service. they gave me a claim number and told me to send them the tire. finally after nine months and eight phone calls ,i was told that the tire failed because it had hit an object or pot hole etc. i say bc to that! they refused my claim for repair, tire replacement, and ups cost, to ship tire to them. total $2235. but wait! there's more! the coach came new from the factory with six on the ground and one as a spare. i have lost all seven of them from separation in 40,000 miles of driving. starting 4-01 thru 29-03. the first six caused no damage to the mh. i will never deal with or own firestone tires again! *nlm

This information did not get included on first report. i just bought a new class c mh with the above listed tires in it. these tires are supporting a 16,000 pound mh and i am scared to death what would happen if one of these tires should pell its tread at 60 mph the normal speed we travel at. we also tow a small suzuki behind. on our motor home before this one a (class a) we had three michalin tires pell the tread two of them with in 60 miles of each other in all three cases i was able to stop but not before alot of damage was done to the coach it the (class a) weighted 6,000 more pounds than this one. we will not drive this new motor home until the tires on it are replaced or we are told they will not peel the tread. oh michalin did replace all 7 tires on the last motor home. those tires peeled at less than 25,000 miles . hope to hear soon thank you. *ak (tiresize: 225/75r/16)( dot number: tire size: 225/75r/16 )
TRAILER HITCHES
12/01/2000112/01/2000
The trailer hitch at the back of the motorhome is 12 inches from the ground, and when i drive into driveways with my towed vehicle hooked up to the receiver assy. the hitch assembly. hits the pavement so hard that the safety chains almost sheared off, and lifts the motorhome up where it almost loses traction with the tires for traction.*ak
