| Defect Summary | Certain freightliner school bus chassis, heavy trucks, and thomas built school buses manufactured between july 2002 and july 3, 2007, equipped with bendix sr-7 spring brake control valves. the parker scv brass 90 degree single check valves (scv) which attach to the supply port of a bendix sr-7 spring brake modulating valve can break apart. pieces of the parker scv can become lodged inside the sr-7 spring brake modulating valve, potentially causing either leakage out of the sr-7 valve or preventing air from properly exhausting from the sr-7 valve. also, due to a manufacturing defect in the internal rubber check valve inside the sr-7 spring brake modulating valves, the valves can become deformed and not seat properly. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | These conditions could either result in leakage and cause a delay in the application of the spring brake without warning or possibly lead to unintended vehicle rollaway or brake drag which could result in a vehicle crash, personal injury, or death. | |||||||||||||||

| I have a freightliner m2 business class hauler with 60000 miles in aug 2010 the left rear caliper locked up over heating and burning out the abs sensor, pads and rotor had to be turned. this work was done by the local freightliner dealer. on 12-31-10 the right rear caliper locked up and again burned out the abs sensor and over heated the brakes. i again took my truck to the freightliner dealer for repair. they contacted the freightliner co and was advised that the calipers were sticking and that they both should be replaced. the abs sensor was replaced, both calipers with new pads were replaced and the right rotor was replaced with a new one. freightliner was unable to tell me anything regarding the sticking calipers. total cost to me was just under $4000.00. | |||

| I have a 2007 sportchassis (freightliner business class m2) with 8000 miles, while driving the right caliper locked up and caught fire, i waited for truck to cool down and drove home. next time i took the truck out, abt a week later, the left caliper did the same thing. i checked the calipers are fine, the brake fluid is also ok. i have tried contacting freightliner sportchassis in oklahoma where the truck was manufactured 4/2006. i have been told several fixes by the local freightliner dealer here in miami fl but its very costly abt $5000 to fix. i dont belive this is the problem there has to be something defective for the calipers to lock up & catch fire under my truck, inturn damageing all the parts that now need to be replaced @ abt $5000. i dont drive the truck often, it's a toy that i own. purchased brand new 1/2007 to date have 8000 miles | |||
