Odi initiated pe02-061 based on two reported incidents in which freightliner vehicles equipped with integral abs tone rings had experienced increased vehicle stopping distance.integral tone rings incorporate the abs tone ring into the brake rotor to form a one-piece integrated comonent.freightliner has identified 266 warranty claims for corroded rotors.since the abs tone ring is an integral part of the hydraulic brake rotor in the affected freightliner vehicles, corroded rotor sensor teeth may compromise the quaility of the abs tone ring signal to the abs ecu.a significant number of freightiner warranty claims indicate that he tone ring condition was discovered by servicing mechanics who were investigating the cause for the illuminated abs warning light.odi is concerned as to (1) whether vehicle opeeraotrs are sufficiently cognizant of the importance of having the vehicle serviced in a timely manner in response to the illuminated abs warning light since the abs warning light is the only warning provided before the vehicle stopping distance may be affected and (2) quantifying the extent to which stopping-distance is affected and assessing the associated risk to safety. odi conducted a parallel investigation(pe02-060) of increased stopping distance associated with corroded abs tone rings at international truck.this investigation was concluded on nov 21, 2002 after international truck concluded that the abs ecu....can misinterpret false wheel speed signals... and notified nhtsa of their intention to conduct a campaign (nhtsa 02v-252) to correct the affected vehicles.recommendation is to open an engineering analysis. |

Freightliner custom chassis overheated due to debris entering the radiator. *ak the problem is that the engine crankcase breather tube was located in the suction path of airflow through the charge air cooler and radiator. this allowed a fine oil mist to be deposited on the charge air cooler and radiator. this caused an accumulation of road dirt on the charge ir cooler and radiator. the fix was a breather tube extension which frieghtliner has changed their design to incorporate this. consumer was denied cost of repair/correction and felt a recall should've been issued not a service bulletin. in addition, he would like reimbursement for cost of repairs, $748.15. *ph | |||

The driveshaft detached from the transmission flange with no warning. the driveshaft fell to the roadway surface and caused the vehicle rear wheels to lock up. fortunately, the front of the drive shaft did not dig into the roadway surface which could have caused a serious traffic accident. the vehicle was rendered completely inoperable. this vehicle is a recreational vehicle and was being used to tow a large fifth-wheel travel trailer. the travel trailer was within the weight limits for the truck. the travel trailer sustained minor damage from the loose pieces of the driveshaft assembly. although used as an rv, this truck is similar to many other freightliner fl60 trucks in commercial service. | |||

Transmission failed without warning causing vehicle to be stuck in 7th gear. i am bringing this to your attention. due to the fact that many people have filed complaints, yet there is still no recall on this transmission. some people have experienced several failures. having to have the transmission to be replaced several times. something has to be done. replacing a failed transmission with another that is soon to fail on you again. is not a solution to this problem. yet spicer continues to get away with replacing these transmissions with the same faulty transmission over and over again. what is it going to take? we are talking about commercial vehicles here, hauling freight up and down our nations highways. i hope it isn't going to take one of these transmissions to fail resulting in someone having a accident. or pieces flying off of a truck resulting in someone else having a accident or causing a fatality. please many people have complained about this transmission. i was directed to your site from the many others who have complained. please lets solve this problem before something tragic happens. thank you! *ak | |||

The side glass has a very bad glare and makes it hard and some times impossable to see out the window to the mirror . need less to say this is a very big problem. i have almost hit other trucks and cars because ou this. it also makes it hard to back in to places. this needs to be address before it get someone hurt or killed if it hasn't yet. we are talking about a truck 75 feet long and the mirror is your only line of sight. you have no other. in this time of safety for trucks this should be something you look in to wright away. *ak | |||
