At an idle, in park or in gear, the engine speed often rises from normal (1000rpm) up to as high as 4000 rpms. this happens at a stand still and also when approaching, sitting at or leaving stopp lights also. this problem has caused unwanted and unsafe lurcheing forward when letting out the clutch. at times, when the engine speed comes back down, it will drop too far and cause the engine to stall. this happened to me in the middle of a busy inter section and i was nearly rearended. to my knowledge gm is aware of this problem but refuses to take care of it outside normal warranty period.*ak

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL

The problem i have been experiencing with my 1991 geo storm gsi, is everytime i'm at a red-light or stop sign with the car at a complete stop, my idle will shoot up from the normal 800-900 rpms, to 2,000-3,000 rpms. this is very dangerous on a automatic transmission equipped storm, since you have to firmly press on the brake pedal very hard to prevent the car from lurking forward and hitting a car in front of you, or injuring or even killing a walking pedestrian that happens to be crossing the street. it is also a hazard for manual transmission cars because engaging the engine at 2,000-3,000 rpm will result in violent forward motion. example: you are pulled up to a stoplight and your foot accidentally slips off the clutch pedal. if your car is idling correctly at 800 rpm, the car moves a foot forward and the engine dies, but if the vehicle is idiling at 2,000-3,000 rpms, the vehicle will lauch forward like a rocket. scenario two, the engine is hovering at 2,000 rpm, uncontrollably, and your foot slips off the clutch pedal. your car bolts forward running over the pedestrian who happened to be crossing in the crosswalk. this is a problem that many geo storm owners have, but have had no luck in trying to solve the problem with general motors. the problem, from what a specialized mechanic told me, could be the ecm otherwise known as the engine control module which is the engine computer. any help is greatly appreciated, as we very much need it at this time for our safety, and the safety of others. thanks, eduardo zaballa. *ak( dot number: tire size: p205/50/15 )

The symptoms of this fault are most notably erratic idle, idle revving and dropping. *ak
Car has erratic idle at times and rpms will stick sometimes well above normal idle. it is ecu that is causing the problem. quite a few of my friends experience this problem with the geo storms. a recall is in order if you ask me!*ak

Car likes to idle irregulary, idle too high, having to keep foot on brake to stop car. *ak
I've have experienced problems of erratic idle speed, the engine revving and dropping uncontrolably and sporadic dying of the engine when i press in the clutch. the problem has been traced to my delco electronic control module being faulty. this faulty module unfortuately controls all of the functions of the car including idle. this is a hazard to me and others, the erratic idle has causes my (manual) car to lurch forward uncontrolably, during take-off. the sporadic dying causes the most danger. when the clutch is pressed in, in preperation to stop the car dies and with it braking power and steering. this leaves the driver attempting to stop before brake pressure is lost, and at the same time attempting to restart the car in a vain effort... this has happened to me many times, fortunately i haven't had an accident yet. i am outraged that isuzu/geo can allow a cars to be built like this, with faulty computers. its a safety hazard, which they expect the owner to fix at an outragous cost. its either fix it and wait for it to happen again with the new computer at a cost to me, or live with the fact that they built an unsafe car. this i find unacceptable, thats why i'm writing you, someone needs to make them fess up to thier mistake and fix it. *ak

The idle is very erratic. not too sure if it's the carburator or not, but the idle will jump from 950-1000 rpm up to 2000. this is veryodd and have heard others complain about the same problem. thank you. *ak

During warm weather the vehicle's throttle will stick at 2000. through my research i have found this to be the fault of the ecu. it is a very dangerous thing to have your throttle stick. dt
