The preliminary evaulation is being upgraded.during the ea odi will limitits investigation to only those vehicles equipped with a hydro-boost system, which provides power assist to the braking and steering sytems.vaccuum brake booster vehicles are excluded.odi hasexpanded the scope of the ea to include model years2003 and 2004, asduring the pe, odi learned that the hydroboast pumps were modified in febraury 2004.therefore,odi has expanded the scope to include the additional model years.odi's is concerned because thisisa sudden failure that affects two critical systems of the vehicle, brakes and steering, at the same time.the ability of the operator to handle the dual failures is a concern. further, these vehicles tend to be work vehicles, with some over 10,000 pounds gvwr and many equipped to pull large trailers.dual failures of heavily loaded vehicles and vehicles pulling trailers further increases the safety risk.odi plans to conduct testing to quantify the braking and steering performance degradation and the impact on safe vehicle control, when a hydroboast pump fails.

Vehicle is a 2002 gmc hd 2500 pickup truck with a duramax diesel engine, and 5 speed allison transmission while driving on surface streets, the power brakes and steering both went out siultaneously. stopping required both feet on pedal, and steering was nearly impossible. problem traced to the hydroboost and the power steering pump. both were replaced along with the high pressure hose. evidently, the pump failed to yield any boost pressure, which in turn rendered power steeling and brakes inoperative. a very dangerous situation. the tow truck thatreponded indicated that they have had multiple failures of the same items (87 ot 8 gmc hd trucks) and in blogs with other gmc/chevy diesel owners it apears to be a common defect. thewre were no noises, or other indicator of pending problems. contact with the dealer revealed that i should change the ps fluid every 2 years: (not in the maintainence section of owner manual)

I had an unexpected brake failure caused by the rust through of the brake line under the driver seat. it was fortunate that i was in a parking lot and going at a slow speed at the time. i had to replace the entire brake line system as there was rust on all the lines. the repair cost was $741.89. i have had other gm vehicles, and have never experienced this type of failure before. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2002 gmc 2500hd. the contact stated the braking system and speed sensor has failed. the sensor was replaced by the dealer under warranty previously and now the sensor has failed again. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. due to the sensor failure the vehicle is not driveable. the manufacturer was called.the contact was told the repair would be at the owner's expense since the warranty has expired on the vehicle. the vin number is unknown. the failure mileage was 39,000.

I have a 2002 gmc sierra 2500hd pickup truck that is exhibiting abs braking problems at low speeds. the abs system will engage and disengage at low speeds on perfectly dry driving surfaces. i was informed by a friend that he thought gmc had a recall on this issue. i researched on the web and found a recall that described this situation exactly. i contacted the local dealer and they said there was no outstanding recalls for my vehicle. i then contacted gmc directly (from a phone number listed on one of the web obtained recall notices) and they ran my vin and said that my truck was not covered by the recall. i want to know how to get my truck and similar trucks included in the recall that apparently did not include my specific vehicle. *tr

Dt: the contact complained about a brake problem. rear rotors rusted. dealership said that this was normal wear for the rear rotors. the gm customer service told him to take it back to the dealer, and all they would tell him was that he needed to replace rotors and rear brake pads because they could not turn them over. *ak left rear axle seal leaked. the slip yoke and rear u-joint on the rear driveshaft were replaced because they were causing a chattering feeling when the wheel was turned. *nm

Right rear brake of 2002 gmc siverado 2500hd does not release completely. rim gets hot and brakes smoke. gm dealer on second service problem installed covers over the brakes to keep road grim out. this does not seem to fix the problem. just dropped off truck for the third time with the same issues and they can not find any problems. rim is destroyed due to heat and brake dust. truck has 11,000 miles on it

Upon braking up to a stop sign for instance. the vehicles abs will kick in at the last minute releasing the left front wheel causing the vehicle to dive to the right. this happens in wet or dry condition but is particularly bad in icy conditions. *nm

When i pulled into a left turn lane and tried to apply the brakes the pedal went nearly to the floor and i had no brakes luckily there were no other cars on the road or in the intersection at the time so i went on through and there was no accident, i was camping at the time and i got the truck back to the campground when i backed the truck into the campsite and applied the brakes they started working normally, i took the truck to the dealer and they said that they could find nothing wrong they even said that they have had several other vehicles do the same thing and could not find anything wrong with them and that this problem was normal for the vehicle. *nm

Gm recall #05068 anti- lock causing increased stopping distances, gm is only repairing this problem on 1/2 ton products due to the fact it is a simple inexpensive repair. i own a 3/4 ton truck with the exact same problem but due to the fact a repair consists of replacement of the front wheel bearings they (gm) have chosen not to include 3/4 ton in this recall. i have on several occasions had increased stopping distances due to the sensor failure, my dealership said they can repair gm's defect at a price of $800.00 to me. *jb
