 Automatic transmission failured where overdrive and 3rd gear ceased to function. 2nd, 1st and reverse remained operational. dealer diagnosed as a failed sprag clutch. cost to repair was $1,925.56. gm has known about this problem since it issued a technical service bulletin (tsb) #3931 on september 28, 2006, (nhtsa reference #10021018). there have been numerous complaints pertaining to this mechanical design defect ever since without notice or remedy offered to vehicle owners.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2007 gmc canyon. the contact was driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions and upon applying pressure to the accelerator pedal there was hesitation accompanied by no power. suddenly, the transmission engaged and the driver was able to continue driving normally. the failures occurred when ever the vehicle was in motion. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and the technician stated that the vehicle was operating normal. on two separate occasions the identical failure occurred and the computerized system was reprogrammed. the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunctions. the contact has concerns of the safety risk involved. the failure mileage was 22,000 and the current mileage was 25,500. updated 10/13/09. *lj the dealer replaced the power control module. updated 10/15/09
