Gm states that some brake/tail lamp bulbs can prematurely become inoperative due to malfunctioning brake/tail lamp sockets.on march 2, 2004, gm initiated a 6-year/72,000 mile special policy for 989,487 subject vehicles to inspect and replace the rear brake/tail lamp bulb socket assemblies.on april 4, 2004, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation (pe04-032) based on consumer complaints alleging brake lights not operating when the brake pedal is depressed.on august 3, 2004 odi upgraded pe04-032 to an engineering analysis (ea04-021).by letter dated october 27, 2004 gm notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa # 04v527) covering subject vehicles that were not already repaired under gm's special policy.my 2004 subject vehicles built after august 8, 2003 contain improved brake lamp assemblies and are not included in the recall.gm dealers will install the improved brake lamp assembly on subject vehicles built on august 8, 2003 and earlier.the action taken by gm is sufficient to resolve the issues raised by this investigation.accordingly, this investigation is closed.

I purchased this vehicle 10 months ago and have to replace the headlights 9 seperate times not including the brake lights 5 times. after the 3rd time the man at the auto parts store stated this is a known problem with gmc> the lights get too hot and burn up the bulb and the connectors. i have had 2 buy now 4 rabbits connectors and they make the bulb last a little longer but the exspense is sad. if this is a known problem and it is posted all over the interent from customers with the same issues why has not recall beem placed for these lights. if it is heating hot enough to melt a connector that is a fire hazard and needs to be recalled. now my speedometer stoped working and to my surprise i wass advised this also a common gmc problem with the cluster repair being required to fix it.

High beams on vehicle project straight up to the sky. when weather is clear it is not noticeable but when raining, foggy or snowing visibility is affected a great deal. my internet search indicated a problem with an aftermarket headlamp assembly but mine are gm stamped. this is definitely a safety issue.

Problem with brake light not coming on. the fuses and tail lights have been checked; all fuses and bulbs are functioning. this is hazardous and dangerous while driving, for myself as well as unsuspected drivers behind me. this will also create problems with law enforcement for me or anyone operating this vehicle. *jb
EXTERIOR LIGHTING - HEADLIGHTS

I traded my 2005 ford focus 26410 miles to wade raulerson gmc on october 3, 2007 wrote two checks in the amount of 500.00 each that they held for four weeks for a down payment. we looked at a 2004 gmc envoy with 65,000 miles the salesman quoted us a price of 17,000 so we did the paper work the first time on the 16th we were called in again and told we had to sign more documents this time the price of the envoy rose to 21698.35, i asked about my 05 focus was told it sold the next day and we had to have gap protection. payoff on my car was 12,502.95 and it looked as if they were giving me 14900.00 but raised the price of the truck by 4000.00. bad deal to begin with. the problems began. i had to return it at the end of the month in october 2007 to have the headlights, seatbelt, and motor in the window replaced, and diagnosed to find why the service engine light will not go out. two weeks later stranded at the daycare i had to buy a new battery. on 05/05/2008 the conditioner went out. i paid the dealership over 100.00 to tell me it would be an additional 600.00 plus dollars to repair the mode actuator door motor. october 17, 2008 i spent 375.02 to have both the shift control cable and gear shift lever removed and replaced. thank god i was actually on a parking lot when the cable broke and not in traffic. contacting wade raulerson gmc has been useless i have practically been told you bought the lemon as-is now it's your troubles! there should be a law against this type of business and not just for new cars. now no-one will touch it because of the problems it is having and the large amount that's now owed. every time the vin is pulled i get pushed out of the door faster than i can blink. btw the service engine light is still on and has been since i left the dealership. i?m tired of honest hard-working people being raked over the coals by unscrupulous dealers while they get protected by the as-is rule then laugh all the way to the bank. *tr

When there is moisture in the air, the headlights will cast a beam of light straight up in front of the vehicle when headlights are on high. it doesn't matter if it is rain, snow or fog, it is enough of a hazard to cause you to not be able to see what is in front of you. then, you have to drive on low beam and this can also be a hazard due to the overrunning of the headlights. this is a very dangerous condition. this 2004 gmc envoy xl has done this since day one. i have called gmc and told them about this problem. i like this vehicle, i'm just concerned that a potential bad accident can happen as a result of this problem.*ak

When you turn on the turn signals the 4-way emergency fashers are activated, causing a confusing situation for other drivers who cant tell what you want to do. this is an intermittent problem.*ak

I own a gmc envoy lx 2004. when i put my left turn signal on the hazards turn on. this does not happen everytime, so it is very hard to repeat. this is very dangerous because i sometimes can not signal. i do not have time to stick my hand out side to let the people near me now i am turning. also the right turn signal sometimes just does not work. it is also random.*ak
