My 2000 gmc pick up truck has a loud engine noise referred to as piston slap. the noise has been present since i purchased the vehicle. i have since found that this is a common defect with some gm engines. the dealer states that there is nothing wrong with my vehicle but many web sites describe it as a manufacturing & design defect. i believe this causes decreased performance and increased fuel consumption. *nm | |||

My catalytic converters failed once under warranty around 79000 miles and again around 110000. i paid for the second. i am having trouble again at 117000 miles and come to find out the problem is due to a leaking intake manifold gasket. this is allowing coolant to find its way into the exhaust destroying the quite expensive parts. *jb |
