Two things started to happen 1. the truck when coming to a stop of a speed of less then 25 mph started to lose its brakes and feel spongy. this continued until i got it in the shop which was about two days. 2. the truck started to run very rough and the engine light was coming on at the same time as well. after i got it in the shop and they got it up on a lift they found that all of the brake lines and fuel lines were all most rusted through and starting to leak. they had to replace all of the brake lines, fuel lines and since they had the fuel tank down they replaced the fuel pump because they found rust and dirt in the old pump. the shop mechanic said the lines were ready to fail at any moment. the chevy dealer i bought the truck off of just four months early had just inspected it and had seen the rusted lines and even repaired a piece of one of the fuel lines but left the rest go to fail down the road, they gave me little to no help. this is a huge problem, dangerous as well as very expensive one and needs looked into. is there any help i can get for this problem?? *tr

I was going through an intersection at about 30 mph when my brakes completely failed. i applied my parking brake and swerved onto a nearby lawn just missing a car in front of me. i had my vehicle towed to a mechanic, who told me the brake lines were all rusted through and there was no way they should have been this bad for a vehicle that was well-maintained. i subsequently investigated and found there have been numerous complaints about this problem. why has nothing been done? my wife, daughter and i could have been killed. why should gm be allowed to get away with this? *tr

Moving the truck out of my driveway i experienced a soft brake pedal. several minutes later total brake failure. luckily i wasn't going very fast. was able to stop and investigate why my brakes failed. all brake fluid was gone. under the drivers side the brake line failed. fluid was dripping from a rusted brake line. this truck was garaged when not used and has not been exposed to salty roads. i have been driving for nearly 60 years and never had a brake line failure. gm should be held responsible for the poor design and repair. i see from the internet i am not the first to complain, i can't understand why the government hasn't forced gm into a recall for this serious safety problem. *tr

Was backing into my driveway and all of a sudden my brake pedal went to the floor and i could hear a noise like water running. i looked under my truck and saw a puddle of brake fluid on the ground. turns out my brake line let go. i took it to a mechanic and all the brake lines were badly corroded and have to be replaced. i also tried to use my emergency brake and the brake cable snapped from also being corroded. i don't live near salt water or anything. i'm just glad this happened in my driveway and not at high speeds or it could have been a lot worse. *tr

While bleeding the rear disk brake calipers in the driveway, the steel hydraulic tubing from the brake master cylinder to the rear brake calipers burst due to excessive rust. the result was a quick loss of hydraulic brake fluid. had this happened on the highway, all braking would have been lost due to the fact that the hydraulic fluid reservoir is not divided into front/rear compartments. after the leak, the brake pedal went right to the floor.

While slowing down at my neighborhood elementary school i applied the brakes at the stop sign. the brake pedal began to pulse. i drove around the block to my house. upon investigation, a 12 section of the inside of my left rear brake rotor broke off. when the rotor continued to turn, the remaining section of the brake rotor caught the caliper piston and sheared it off. luckily, i was only driving at 18 mph. if i had been on the highway driving 55-65 mph, the loss of braking would have been catastrophic.the piece that broke off was covered with rust on the inside - the side manufactured with cooling openings which are located between the inside and outside of the brake rotor.

We own a 2001 gmc sierra 1500 pickup truck with around 55k miles. last dec 2010 the brakes failed when applying pressure. we thought the problem was one of the rear calibers; however, upon further diagnosis, it was determined the brakes lines had rusted and subsequently burst/ruptured during a brake application. fortunately, the vehicle was close to home when the brakes failed and we managed to get our truck home without incident. we left our truck parked over the winter to deal with the issue when the weather would be more cooperative for having our vehicle towed to a repair shop. i contacted gm early march 2011 regarding our problem and gm said a gm authorized dealer had to diagnosis the problem. we had our pickup towed to a local gmc dealer and the dealer

Problem is intermittent. brake and abs warning lights come on and stay on until engine is turned off. no detectable change in braking. separately, but also intermittently, at low speeds (no warning lights) the abs is engaged while braking, making the vehicle hard to stop at times. this seems to occur most frequently when turning to the left. symptoms are very similar, if not identical to nhtsa campaign id number : 05v379000. many anecdotal descriptions of this same problem in 1999-2002 gmc light trucks can be easily found on the internet.

Braking system began failing at low speeds (< 10 mph), almost causing me to rear end vehicles when trying to stop. took the vehicle to a dealer, who cleaned the wheel speed sensors at a cost of $110. one month later, the brakes began failing again and after researching on-line, found a gm recall for 1999-2002 gmc sierras. contacted gm but was informed only vehicles with certain vin #'s are included, and mine is not one of them. i have children and frequently drive in school zones around school buses and children at low speeds (<15 mph). this is a very dangerous situation because the vehicle will not stop.

On 8/4/10, while moving in reverse in my driveway, my 2001 gmc sierra's brake line ruptured causing complete brake failure due to corrosion on the steel brake line. the vehicle is 10 years old and only has 29,000 miles on it. it was rarely driven in the winter when there was snow, ice or salt present. as of 9/5/10 the truck remains parked and the lines have not been replaced. when the failure happened, i conducted research to find this failure to be a pending investigation for a possible recall. nhtsa action number : pe10010. i only want gmc to take responsibility for the cost of the repair or reimbursement for the cost of the repair that is caused by this defect. but i'm pretty sure a recall on 6.3 million vehicles will not be issued with gm's ipo set to be released. so, i, the gm consumer, will have to wait.

I own a 2001 gmc sierra 1500 pickup truck. during early march of this year, my brakes failed due to rust and corrosion on the brake lines. two of the steel brake lines under the truck were so corroded with rust that the brake fluid ruptured the lines when i applied the brakes, and poured out on the ground. my braked pedal went to the floor. i had zero brakes without warning. it was only by sheer luck that i was traveling very slowly when this occurred, and i was able to stop using the emergency brakes. i was in the town of renovo, and could have killed someone due to this mishap. we live on a mountain, and tow a trailer with horses. this could have been a complete disaster under other circumstances. there was absolutely no warning that the brakes would soon completely fail. it cost over one thousand dollars to replace all of the brake lines on our truck. i have the receipt.

2001 gmc 1500 sierra 4x4 currently has 68k miles. vehicle speed sensors causing abs brake activation at speeds below 12mph. vehicle was repaired originally on 2/28/2005 for this condition. vehicle is having a reoccurance of this currently noticed on or around 10/2009. vehicle was brought into a dealership for diagnosis and it was diagnosed that senors are in need of complete replacement, however general motors has stated they will not replace the sensorts and a recall has never existed for said vehicle (ref nhtsa recall# 05v379000). general motors contact that stated this recalll did not exist. currently, the failure has not been repaired, and old parts are available. this condition occurs 95% of the time when braking below 12mph, and makes it extremely difficult to stop the vehicle at intersections, traffic, etc. looking for gm to correct this problem before any accidents or injuries occur. also parking brake has never sufficiently held vehicle as it gets depressed to floor and vehicle still can roll, promoting a hazard to others in the vicinity if the transmission lock gives out. *tr
01/18/2010 | 99875 | 1 | |
The incident started when the owner of repair service center backed my vehicle out of his garage, upon applying the brakes the entire brake system failed. this failure resulted in the vehicle rolling onto a major roadway. fortunately, this brake failure did not result in a collision with pedestrians, fixed object, or other vehicles which could have resulted in deaths and injuries. upon inspection of the brake system, it was discovered that two steel brake lines had ruptured and caused the brake fluid to escape profusely thus brake failure. these two ruptured lines were located next to the abs electro-hydraulic control unit. these steel brake lines had excessive rusting and rotting. the entire steel brake line system showed evidence of severe rusting or rotting. to correct this extremely hazardous and dangerous condition i had the entire steel brake lines replaced. i have secured the original, failed brake lines. i'd appreciate an investigation into this serious condition to prevent potentially dangerous collisions which could result in injuries and/or death. an investigation should also be conducted to determine if there is a possibility of defective material and/or design. *tr

*tr

Brake system performance is poor. compared to brake performance when new, vehicle takes too long to stop from any speed above 20 mph. have replaced all pads, all rotors, and bled brakes twice; no noticeable improvement in performance. this was first noticed at 80,000 miles, vehicle currently has 110,000 miles. *tr

I have a 01 gmc sierra (light duty) that has the same problem with the abs breaking system as the trucks in recall in the north eastern states. my problem is i bought the truck in florida...moved to delaware and have lived here the past ten months..truck is still registered in florida...and gmc won't replace the recall abs sensors because i purchased the truck in florida and its has a vin number showing origination in florida...how ridiculous is this???????? is this legal to deny me a recall....when i can prove i have a permanent residence in delaware???? *jb

On our sierra gmc 01 the abs brake light has been turning on for 2 months and have had no usage of our emergency brake, we figured it had to do with the emergency brakes so we replaced the emergency brakes and the rear brakes which we purchased the brake shoes for $74.94,brake pads $33.97,brake rotor$61.98,two pnt caliper blk $6.44 each and the total cost of purchasing this was $199.91 and to do the repairs we had a family mechanic fix what we believed could be the problem. *tr
