2006 gmc sierra hd 2500 - 4x4 crew cab slt - while parked in our driveway and with keys out of the iginition, the air bag deployed. we called the dealership ferguson pontiac gmc and we were told that it was not possible and out of warranty. we had our mechanic tow it in. they hooked up the computer to see if a sensor had tripped the air bag and the rug started to smoke. they removed the melted mat to the rug and found the wiring harness was melted away. bottom side of the rug was burnt. we went to gmc in person with pictures and asked how this could happend and were told it can happen at anytime with sand and moisture around the wiring harness. we were told this could have also happened while driving the vehicle. we want this truck fixed and assured that it will not happen again. this could have caused a forest fire, a horrible accident, and or death. no one seems to care. we have several gmc vehicles and are concerned if the other ones will do the same. we are not safisfied with their complete disregard for our safety and did not want to even look at it. we have pictures if you would like us to email them to you. this is out of the normal relm of warranty and belive it is gm's responbility to fix this and make sure it doesn't happen again. also the public needs to know that this can happen at anytime. this was quoted from harry buck the service manager at ferguson ponitac gmc. 719-596-5005

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 gmc sierra 2500. the fly wheel, which runs with the transmission and helps change gears has had to be replaced three times within two years. while driving approximately 10 mph during the first failure, there was a loud clicking noise and it became louder over time. the dealer stated the vehicle was operating normally. a few weeks later, the noise was much louder; however, a different dealer 2 hours away diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the fly wheel failed. after being repaired 24,000 miles and a year later, the failure recurred. the fly wheel was replaced again and lasted 5 months before it failed. the power steering shaft also needed to be replaced due to it being worn out and failed again nine months later. the failure mileage was 22,800 and the current mileage was 55,000. updated 06/08/09 *bf the power steering gear was leaking due to leaking gear assembly, the hvac blower was inoperative, the flywheel was cracked. the dealer replaced the stripped and broken exhaust studs. updated 06/18/09.*jb
